It's been a long time since I've been back to Dockside. Celebrating one of my sisters' birthday was the reason for the delightful reacquaintance.
If the weather is nice and comfortable, I strongly recommend sitting outside to enjoy your meal. Outside seating is on a first come, first serve basis. It overlooks the Lynnhaven Inlet/Bay area. It's a nice seafood place to get away from the loud & busyness of the oceanfront. But then again, it was during the week and school had just started. It is free self parking.
It's been a couple of years since I've returned, but I was pleasantly impressed with the food quality. I feel it has significantly improved. I ordered the dockside seafood platter which carries a hefty price, but once the food arrived it was a healthy portion! You can choose your fish to be broiled, blackened or fried. I went with blackened. The fish size was as large as half the oval shaped plate & was filleted. It came with about a palm sized crab cake, which was primarily crab meat, not filler! I was excited! Also included were two decent sized scallops and three or four shrimp and a choice of two sides. I went with the potato salad and the hush puppies. Everything was delicious! The portion size abundant. My only let down, which was minor, were the scallops. The scallops were a bit gritty. They had a smooth texture on the outside, but when I began to chew, I could taste some residual grits of sand.
We ordered lumpia as an appetizer. I'm not sure why they are served long. But one long lumpia equates to two regular sized pieces or if slightly smaller- three pieces. There are six long pieces in their lumpia serving (cut them in half and it's 12 pieces). Their lumpia game has improved also!
One of my sisters ordered calamari and they were crispy and tasty. Other dishes ordered among our table were fried oysters. It was clearly expressed by my other sisters that these were really delicious oysters. I personally don't like oysters and don't tend to eat them.
The views are nice and the celebrant enjoyed her food and the views, even though it was over cast and slightly drizzly (obviously not the restaurant's control). I've seen some spectacular sunsets here as well.
We personally didn't have issues/difficulty. But if you want to enjoy time outside and need to use an assisted device or need extra assistance getting around , this is just hopefully helpful info to navigate the restaurant.
** For those with limited mobility or difficulty with uneven surfaces. They do have a ramp which leads down into the storefront, which is a seafood market, you're in the right place. Just go straight back to the left and you will reach the restaurant if you've never been.
The entire parking lot is on a slant, as a heads up. I can't remember exactly, but I do think there are slight step ups and step downs throughout the restaurant. I would call to confirm if this may pose a concern for you. There is a ramp that leads out the door to the patio, but it may be somewhat challenging for those who need extra assistance. It MIGHT be easier if you need to access the patio, to use the side gate. But I would wait until someone in your party has checked with the host/hostess and confirmed table availability BEFORE entering that way.
