The stars here are well-earned...but be ready to open up your wallet. They are NOT a bargain. We came for the Chargrilled Oysters. We ordered a half dozen plus a half dozen of the Oysters Rockefeller. The Rockefeller were not at all presented in the manner I am accustomed (not even a hint of green anything), however, the flavor was great.
They did not offer Abita Amber in a draft, but we were told that as soon as LSU football started up, they would carry it. This place appears to be a bar first, and one focussed on my beloved Tigers, so that is a win. I ordered the Blackened Redfish, and I must say it was the best I've ever had. My companion ordered the Angel Hair Pasta with chicken. The sauce was excellent, however...the chicken was entirely unseasoned & slightly overcooked. For desert, we split the insanely overwhelming bread pudding. Seriously, they could cut the chocolatey sweet goodness in half & it would still be a lot! (That's not a complaint)
Now...they offer a "cole slaw" that comes out bright pink with huge hunks of veggies. The dressing is primarily vinegar-based. I loathe cole slaw, and I have walked out of restaurants who militantly force their nastiness upon the diners. I refused, politely, my side order of "slaw." My companion, who for some reason will actually eat traditional slaw only ate one bit. Our server seemed truly hurt that we did not appreciate their attempt to reinvent the wheel. I tend to think this is a Hipster slaw, so just go in informed.
Parking in this part of Greenville Avenue is highly challenging, and I must say will be a determining factor in a return visit. Also, road construction created many detours, and getting out of the area took twice as long as expected.
Overall, and for the price, Dodie's delivers on great food (except that Tyrannosaurus Slaw). It is not cheap eats, and I am fine with that when I get what I pay for...but again, unless you are one of those people who is punishing their own taste buds...avoid the slaw.
