I rarely leave negative reviews, especially for hostels—I’m usually very easygoing and supportive of the community. But my experience at Ostello Santa Fosca left me incredibly disappointed.
While the staff were generally friendly and the location was great, my actual stay was a nightmare. I stayed in a 3-bed dorm with no air conditioning, which I knew and was fine with. The real problem was the broken window screens, which had large holes and allowed countless mosquitoes into the room. I ended up covered in bites—some of which bled and became increasingly painful in the days after. I barely slept, caught between overheating with the windows shut or getting eaten alive with them open.
I contacted management privately, hoping for a fair resolution or at least a conversation about fixing the screens. Instead, they completely dismissed my concerns and responded with a sarcastic remark about needing to “drain the lagoon” to solve the mosquito issue. No offer to repair the screens, no accountability, and no refund—even partial.
I’ve stayed in plenty of budget hostels around the world, and I understand discomfort comes with the territory. But what I can’t excuse is the lack of basic maintenance and the unwillingness to take guest concerns seriously. For the price, I expected at least the bare minimum of comfort and hygiene. Sadly, this stay didn’t deliver either.
Until they take better care of their facilities and actually listen to feedback, I cannot recommend this hostel to others.
