Pasadena Wants to Test Face-Scanning System That Allows You to Pay for Meals | Eater LA

"This location has joined a pilot of a face-authenticated payment and pickup system: users register with a selfie, add funds through a credit or checking account, order from the participating outlet, and pick up by looking into a kiosk while a cashier confirms and hands over the food. The service is marketed as a touchless alternative to help reduce interactions during the COVID-19 era, but critics raise concerns about racial bias in facial-recognition and the implications for data privacy and sharing. The program is operated by the same tech group behind Kitchen United and Caliburger and launched this week." - Mona Holmes

This place never disappoints! Whenever I get a hot dog craving, I go here and it’s always great. Poor cashier though, when we arrived this party of 4-5 kept playing 20 questions with her and she remained polite the entire time. By the time she got to us, you could tell that interaction took a lot out of her. We made things easy and received our food in a timely manner. The same cashier had come by to help clean up when we were ready to leave. Great service and great food here that’s for sure

Google
Genuinely very good hot dogs! The lady taking my order was really friendly and chatty and the food came within just a few minutes. Good atmosphere inside with plenty of seating. I found out that avocado isn’t exactly my sort of thing on a hot dog, but no risk, no reward. The sausage itself was very good, the bun soft and I’d definitely come back to try out some of their more traditional offerings.

Rodrigo “.

Google
A solid location with slot of other restaurants in the lot. I had their triple cheeseburger lettuce wrap, chicken tenders, a corn dog and chili cheese fries. Lunch was delicious and satisfying overall. The venue has a nice interior with lots of seating. I’d definitely come back here again to try their other menu items.

Google
Vibes are chill and the Holy Aioli burger was incredible! The onion rings were crispy, the sodas refillable (a rarity in these parts) and prices were reasonable. Glad we took a chance instead of trying the bougie restaurant across the street.

Google
Came here to try something new. While it was expensive, the portion sizes defenitely do make up for its pricy cost, and the burger was absolutely amazing. Fries were nice and crispy, and staff was absolutely amazing. They answered every question I had and were absolute gems. I'd defenitely revisit this place when I visit Long Beach again, 10/10.

Google
Best dogs in town! And the tater tots were amazing. Staff was super friendly and knowledgeable and helped pop my Dog Haus cherry. The menu is just the right size. Not overbearing yet, not underwhelming.

Google
Had the Little Mule burger and Reservoir Hog at Dog Haus - friendly service and they got our order out pretty quick. Both were really juicy and packed with flavor, exactly what you want from a good meal. Really liked how they use Hawaiian rolls instead of regular buns, makes a noticeable difference. Perfect spot for a sunny day in Long Beach when you want something solid and satisfying.

Google
The place was very clean and nice and quiet how I like it with the background music, I found it very relaxing. The food was really good 10/10 I got the sliders and the chili cheese fires and my girl friend got the slider and regular fries and she loved it definitely had like come back. The services were really nice and fast to get us our food amazing 10/10 service.

Yelp
While I do love a regular ole breakfast burritos, I love a breakfast burrito on steroids even more. I tried two: -Haus or bacon ($10.99): 3 sunny side up eggs, smoked bacon, white American cheese, crispy tater tots, caramelized onions, spicy mayo -Borracho or hangover ($12.49): 3 sunny side up eggs, smoked bacon, Haus chili, white American cheese, crispy tater tots, mayo I think the combination of caramelized onions and melted white American cheese in the original Haus was a little too much in a breakfast burrito. For a burger? Absolutely. For a breakfast burrito? Not so much. Of the two, I preferred the Borracho/hangover more despite it having chili (go figure). Honestly, the chili was really subtle and only now did I realize there was chili in my burrito. Honestly, the combination of the chili, melty cheese, etc. etc. tasted much like a hangover cure though I enjoyed it non-hungover. Yes of course it was decadent, but I'm absolutely here for it. Hotdogs and breakfast burritos in the Dog Haus - what more could you want?

Yelp
With 24 locations in California, Dog Haus is one of the bigger purveyors of hot dogs in the area. I have been to this location before, but this was the first time during breakfast hours to get one of their famous breakfast burritos. It was OK, enough to end up eating the whole thing in one sitting when my initial intention was only half. Their entire menu (including draft beer) is available all-day. The on-site menu is a bit different than what is shown on their web ordering site, so after a bit adjusting, ordered their sausage burrito ($11.99) with added avocado (+$.99). You pay first, then wait a bit while the burrito is made and grilled. I do like their various sausages and their tater tots (very crunchy), so with the choice of runny sunny side eggs (instead of the typical scrambled), hoping it would be great, changing how I like these. Nah....wouldn't be able to put this near my top, definitely OK, but not excellent. They have no salsa, instead providing a spicy mayo and packets of cholula...any sort of picante or salsa would have been a lot better. And I wish there was a way to keep the potatoes crunchy....sounds impossible to do, but have had others that they were able to exactly do that. Plus for a place that serves gourmet sausages, the sage sausage in the burrito was just average. And the white american cheese wasn't noticeable. Just need more filling, better distributed, with a way to add some fresh salsa.

Yelp
Ordered pickup for a breakfast burrito and I will be doing so again! I ordered the bronco and I swapped out the white American cheese for cheddar, scrambled eggs with a side of their special sauce and cholula. The burrito itself was a great size and made me perfectly full.

Yelp
Dog haus is so good! The staff is friendly and the food is delicious! I came in to host Boombox Bingo on Thursdays and was met with such a friendly staff that I see treat everyone with respect! This last time, I went with my friend and we ordered the Bad Motha Clucka w/grilled chicken (they had it fried as well) with a side of fries and the Little Mule made as a double and added pastrami with a side of tater tots (which i prefer over the fries). The location is chill! It wasnt too full and from what i saw, the wait is never too long! You can dine in or take out, but I enjoyed the vibe of dining in! Very open, veey clean, not too loud and they have some sort of sport playing if youre into that. Parking is right across the street at Harvey Milk parking lot. 2 hours free parking and $2 every 30 minutes after that! All in all! Highly reccomend!

Yelp
Great service and delicious food! We tried the Cajun burrito and Hangover burrito! We recommend trying these two if you want something bursting with spice and flavor. I chose sunny side up egg and bf chose scrambled. Cajun was so flavorful. Comes with sauce on side. For its price and sizes I would recommend! Bf also tried the onion rings. Crispy and didn't fall out of the batter.

Yelp
Been here more times than I can even think to count. Not normally hot dog or sausage person but the meat here is definitely higher quality. The burgers are good including the sliders even. The happy hour deals are nice and the store has tvs and a bar if that's your kinda thing. The love boat tots are a fave. I like their new el gallo tenders and sandwich, the holy aoli is another good sandwich. Decent parking at a lot near by they also do mobile ordering and catering. A nice interior quick service and nestled in downtown Long Beach, a good solo or date night dining location
google avatar

Yelp
Best breakfast burritos all day, big and fulfilling $3 one happy hour Service is always quick and friendly Patio dining available Nice peaceful spot to enjoy a great burrito

Yelp
The picture says it all! Delicious. Huge Menu with a big variety of types of dogs. Everything you can imagine on a dog!

Yelp
Mayonnaise instead of salsa on a burrito is not a choice I would have ever made on my own, but the chipotle aoli on my breakfast burrito was the perfection I never knew my life needed. So, so good. I usually like to save part of my burritos to eat later, but I couldn't hold back on this one and inhaled the whole thing. I got mine with the veggie sausage and scrambled eggs, but the default option is fried eggs. I want to try that way too! I'll note that my friend's hot dog had basil aoli, which they were skeptical about, but also proclaimed to be delicious. So apparently this place knows what they're doing with their flavor combos. They have a nice little dog-friendly patio, and brought out a fresh water bowl for my pup. Plenty of draft beers to choose from too, if that's your thing. Friendly staff. Plenty of veggie and vegan options. What more could you wish for? Can't wait to eat here again. Definitely excited that there's another branch of this store closer to home!

Yelp
This place was delicious! A lot of heavy food but come here if you are hungry. Let's talk about a burger in four mini Hawaiian rolls? Delicious. The Aoli Burger held together great. Really tasty. Loved every bite. The tater tots with pastrami were really good. Eventually that flavor gets old, but it's really tasty. I'd split that with 3 people and that'd be perfect. Friendly service who gave us fantastic recs. The salted caramel shake was so creamy and relaxing.
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
This is a counter service, causal Picnic table style eatery with a good selection of beer options. Plenty of parking across the street with 2 hrs free. I had their fried chicken wings and it was very good.
google avatar

Yelp
First time trying this place, and I loved it. The customer service was great. The food was great, and made with fresh ingredients! And it's great that they have an outdoor dining area. We will definitely go back :)
google avatar

Yelp
I can't say enough about this spot. We took a trip from the SF area to come see Jo Koy, and we stayed down the street from here. We got lucky stumbling upon this place. The customer service even late at night is amazing! Our first night we snagged burgers from here, but I forgot to take pictures. Delicious. My win for this spot were the wings. Perfect juicy & crispy, but the sauce was on point! It's a must try spot.

Yelp
Great vibe, great food, great service, great location, great experience. Was visiting Long Beach and decided to stop in for lunch for the first time. The Cheeseburger was fantastic and the Chili Idol was to die for. I especially loved being able to get a free refill of fountain soda, what a bonus. I'll be going back for sure. 5/5

Yelp
Came in around lunch on a Sunday. Walked-in, empty restaurant, staff saw me, friendly greeting with the cashier, but as we start the order the cook busts out of kitchen with a bunch of pans and meat and mumbles something along with side-eye (my spanish is pretty good but I couldn't catch it). The cashier then tells me it'll be a 25 minute wait (this is before I started ordering, so not sure how you'd know how long it'll take). I laughed at them both and went around the corner and got the same thing at Leo's Mexican Grill in about 5 min, bcs that's about how long it takes to make anything in a burger joint, lol. No drama, just normal Sunday interactions like reasonable human beings. There's a lot of this BS happening in downtown long beach last couple years. Places who seem to play games based on who they're serving for no apparent reason, other than whatever hang-up the staff may have at any given time (usually racial nonsense). Can include overcharging, long waits, playing dumb, wrong orders, and of course the beloved side-eye. General petty disrespectful nonsense that no one needs right now. I've been to this Dog Haus plenty of times and almost always the lady manager is there, who is friendly and detailed. This time around it was just the young cashier and the cook (which is fine on a slow day). The cook seemed to have an issue with my presence. The cashier seemed to notice the cook being flustered and was asking him if he needed help or trying to figure out what the deal was, which makes sense if the man needs 25 min to make a breakfast burrito in an empty restaurant. She seemed sincere. Anywho, not great, and not what you want to deal with on a Sunday after a workout while you're just trying to get your crap together for work on Monday. Be aware of this in the area bcs it's a big trend. You want to support local businesses, but it's not worth disrespect. To the manager, this is what's going on in the restaurant when you're not around.

Yelp
Working in Downtown LB, we go here often. I've tried just about everything on the menu and it is all amazing. I have never been disappointed. Staff is always helpful and friendly. Is it a little pricey for a hot dog? Yes. Is it worth it? Also yes!
google avatar

Yelp
Dog Haus has me in a chokehold!! I love their "Make It a Bowl" option. It turns any entree into a salad bowl, and they use such a good mix of crunchy and leafy greens. I get their Nashville Hot Chicken as a bowl, and the coleslaw and special sauce make it sooooo good as a salad. It is crunchy and spicy and creamy and tangy. Whenever I am hungover, I come here for their absolutely phenomenal breakfast burritos as well. There is a nearby parking structure that offers free parking for two hours, no validation necessary. Grab a bite, a beer, and walk around the promenade.
google avatar

Andre A.

Yelp
Such a great vibe inside and feels super clean despite being a fast food restaurant. The staff are super friendly, welcoming, and very accommodating. Without even asking, they offered me a water cup when I was ordering. They have a great selection of items on the menu, with various unique creations and menu names along with it! Cheeseburger slider (11/10) was DELICIOUS--so soft and bready. The sauce was perfect and the cheese perfectly melted. The beef tasted well cooked. SOOO CALI dog was so good but only (7/10). Loved the crunch. Great bread. Tasted slightly dry as-is, especially with the heavy bread.

Yelp
We are suckers for Doghaus! They always make the food so irresistible with just enough crunch, juiciness and flavoring. We usually get the Holy Aioli, build a burger and fries. We have never been disappointed in the food here. This location has a really good happy hour too. Drinks specials and food discounts galore.
google avatar

Michelle W.

Yelp
Really glad that this spot stays open late! We came here after getting a drink at ISM and unfortunately got to ISM after their kitchen closed. You order at the counter and then they bring your food out to you. They have a lot of options and two different types of hot dogs! You order at the counter and then go find a seat...but apparently, it's all night happy hour at the bar, so there are some food discounts there too? I'm not sure how that ordering system works... We ordered the Cowboy and Downtown. Bacon AND hot dog is pretty decadent, but it was pretty tasty. Everything was very flavorful and we appreciated that it was served on Hawaiian rolls. We also got a side of onion rings. The portion size was a bit smaller than I was expecting. They were incredibly crispy! Good late night spot for a snack. Probably tastes ever better late at night and after a drink or two.

Andy M.

Yelp
Hawaiian rolls as buns and toasted, cmon now, also the chili idol, insane, recommend it more than the chili the kid, I need to try more, i usually love getting a draft brew when I sit down and eat somewhere but I have yet to here because the hot dogs do not need the beer on the side, just get a water for a palette cleanser. Lil pricey if you think $10 is crazy for a chili dog but you can't compare this to weinerschitzel or sonic, gross dude I never have even been to those places because why are 5 chili dogs $5 on Wednesdays they cannot be selling stuff that makes you feel good compared to Dog Haus.
google avatar

Arnold P.

Yelp
I had an amazing time here at Dog Haus. The food was just super tasty and fresh. The service was just very welcoming and diligent. The ambiance was calm and pleasant. 5 stars.
google avatar

William M.

Yelp
The food items we ordered were all very very good. The corn dog was substantial; the sliced polska kielbasa was very flavorful; the pastrami dog was very well put together and the chili & coleslaw fries were an excellent combo! Service was great and the seating area was clean and comfortable.

Rigoberto Z.

Yelp
Awesome people and great food! Always get treated well by everyone and my best compliments to the chef ‍ Don't sleep on the breakfast burritos
google avatar

Jasleen A.

Yelp
If you're craving a hot dog, this is the place to go! They have plenty of different options, and every single one is loaded and equally delicious. The ambiance is laid-back, making it the perfect spot to relax and enjoy your meal.

J Z.

Yelp
They have a bar with not bartender. How you have a bar and no bartender. I ordered a hot dog and said order at the bar when there's no bartender for a 30 min wait! This place is unprofessional and no one should ever eat in this establishment. Disrespectful especially to new customers. If I could this place deserves a zero

Dale

Yelp
Quick and easy meal. Hot dogs, hamburgers, salads, beverages, fries, tots and shakes. Service was fast and courteous. Booths or counter top dining options with take out too. Fair is fair come check this place out to order one of their preset options or customize your order.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
Service was fantastic - the employees were very kind! Happy hour M-F until 7pm had really great deals across alcoholic beverages and small sides like the tots and wings. Ordered the BLT tots ( a little on the heavier and saltier side ) as well as two cheeseburger sliders which were nice snacks to hold one over for a few hours.
google avatar

Yelp
So this eatery. in one of the vloggers from youtube, and we decided to visit.. Food we ordered SoooCali & Downtown hotdog we give it a 9/10 the ingridients can be find or made from your pantry. Hotdog size is ok the bread i'd say us better than the hotdog bread they use hawaiian bread toasted.. 2 soda and a free tater tots when you checkin at yelp! Service is okay staff could use additional energy or smile. Ambiance dining area is roomy and parking garage is accross the street .. free for the next 2hours saves you money. Overall food is delish but a bit pricey but its a goto bite to eat when you are in long beach.
google avatar

Patty M.

Yelp
Horrible service and felt discriminated based on my color. They asked me for my ID based on my color and didn't ask for ID for an alcoholic beverage to someone white.

Yelp
I love Dog Haus and was super happy that one opened in Huntington Beach!! I had to try it. The menu was a little bigger than other dog haus places that I've been to. This one had a breakfast Burrito menu, and I had to grab one. My wife loves the fonz, so I decided to the it I'm a Burrito style with scrambled eggs. Apparently, you can also get it with your eggs done differently, which I was surprised. The fonz bratwurst was so tasty. It had the bratwurst with melted cheese and pastrami on a hawaiian roll. Very good. I got the breakfast Burrito version, and it was also very good. However, it came with a spicy mayo, which was too spicy for me. It was also all in one location of the Burrito, which was unfortunate. I think I'll get it on the side next time. The ambiance is great. You can sit inside or outside, and they were playing Sunday football, which was perfect. I got to eat some good food and also watch the game. Great spot to hang out with some really good food. I'll be coming back soon!

Yelp
Terrible! "Creative" High School cafeteria food. The buns are flat Hawaiian King's bread. A restaurant where seasoning is spicy.
google avatar

Lareina H.

Yelp
Great experience! The dogs were so good!!! The cashier helped with suggestions and I ended up two different chili cheese dogs and they were both delicious! It's a nice chill spot, already a repeat customer.

Yelp
Food was hot; and service was on point, assistance right away, ready on time. Good host to assist when i walked in.

Yelp
Fun and inviting atmosphere with great food! Sometimes it gets a bit busy so the wait times can be long but overall great!

Yelp
I'm obsessed. Great food, good prices, great service, good drinks. This place is awesome.

Yelp
Dog Haus is great for hanging out and socializing. The drinks are excellent, and the food is even better! You won't regret trying the hot dogs, sliders, burgers, tater tots, and the amazing crispy fries. It offers a very chill and relaxing environment with no super loud music. Overall, my friends and I love coming here. The staff is extra friendly and very knowledgeable about recommending drinks. Affordable pricing for sure!
google avatar

Bethany H.

Yelp
They really can do no wrong. I've only ever ordered their dogs, I tired the hangover burger today and my friends the hot chick, chicken sandwich. Damn fam, keep doing what you're doing
google avatar

Yelp
I've walked by this place numerous times during my work lunch hour, but having hotdogs for long l lunch was not my thing. I can tell you it's been about 2 decades since I've gone to Weinerschnitzel and months since I've had a Costco hot dog. Stop by with a coworker because she wanted to get a cup of chili. She figured a place that sells chili dogs must have great chili. So, I decided to get a breakfast burrito thanks to awesome reviews from you Yelpers. I got the bacon breakfast burrito and a side of the free tots with the Yelp check-in! Breakfast Burrito was okay. Caramelized onions, egg, and bacon. Awesome combo. Honestly, even the grilled tortilla was yummy. The only downfall was the amount of ground black pepper used. Maybe it was a day my senses were hyper sensitive, but the amount of black pepper didn't enhance the dish, but took away from it. I ended up taking about 2 bites and couldn't stomach the rest. The hostess who took my order was super sweet and friendly though!
google avatar

Yelp
Wanted a quick bite for dinner after a long day of work and it was near my hotel so I gave it a shot. The cashier recommended the old town dog and it's all beef!!! She also said the onion rings are her fave so I ordered both. The beef dog was delicious with some pickled jalapeños and pork belly bacon in it. It wasn't the worst and wasn't the best dog but I still enjoyed it. The onion rings are beer battered, I prefer Panko battered. It was very very crispy so it was good. Service was great from the cashier and another employee stopped by to clean our table off when finished. I would come back if I ever craved a dog. It has a sports bar vibe inside as well with a tv for sports at the bar area.

Rebecca T.

Yelp
Went to dog haus for first time and it exceeded my expectations! I was debating to go to EggBred instead but was not going to pay 25$ for a ribeye chili burrito! Went to dog haus and got my chili burrito for 12$! The staff exceeded my expectations, were so friendly here and attentive and the place is so organized! I can't wait to come back for a drink and a burger! The place is so spacious, so clean, and so organized! The food was great and I would say one of my favorite breakfast burritos in Long Beach! 10/10 will be back!
google avatar

Yelp
Semi great food with comfortable ambiance Creative menu Friendly staff yet slightly incompetent

Yelp
Absolutely delicious Was worried it would be too small but it was enough and seasoned very well. Hawaiian bread made it so much better.

Yelp
I'm willing to say this in the nicest way I can: Not impressed. Now I know I said I'd be nice but that was nice. Is it not my own daily for going to a hotdog and burger place for a breakfast burrito? The picture looked so good and I wanted one. I got my money's worth, but not my taste since they had quality ingredients and it was very heavy and full. We are all about the taste worth right? The onion rings tasted awful, why couldn't I taste the onions? Come on guys it is in the title. It was nice to eat a simply fried breakfast at 9am, but that was not the point. You know who has good onion rings, BWW, yeah, yeah, yeah, argue with ya mama. You couldn't ask for a better hangover meal when you look at the size of the burrito. Was I hungover I do not recall that time in my life? It had bacon (thick and crunchy), and tater tots that were soggy but still crispy. Rather than scrambled eggs as you imagined, we had fried eggs, which was a game changer. However, if it had a runny yolk, that would have made all the difference. Okay, maybe I liked the burrito, but the avocados threw me off, but before anyone says anything I requested no avocados, and by the time I got ready to eat, I had just taken them out. It was also very cheesy. As I write this I realize I did enjoy this burrito, damn my bad. I'm not saying I'll go back or that you should check it out but it was a decent burrito. If I had to eat it again I would not be upset. Stop putting avocados on your menu, it just jacks up the price and does nothing for you.

Yelp
First time! It was super crowded and we waited forever but food was yummy. I wish I checked in for free tots/fries!!
google avatar

Yelp
We came here for their happy hour. The draft beers were great but the real star was the food. We ordered Nashville style hot wings which were soooo good! They were juicy and spicy. The pastrami fries were delicious as well. We definitely plan on coming back!

Yelp
Parking situation: garage nearby, street parking, good luck Time/date of arrival: I'm here at least 1x a week Ordering process/experience: counter, seated with bartender, mobile order, phone order Order: I usually order the impossible little mule with onion rings. Fire!! My boyfriend gets a hotdog (a "brat"). Food experience: tasty, good texture, good portions, good ratios, good combos, good ideas, good execution Food preparedness/freshness: always fresh!! The onion rings , tots, and fries are usually too hot to eat right away. Packaged/plate presentation: looks picture perfect every time! I wish they still had the impossible flags! Food timeliness: food came out in 10 minutes. Order accuracy: order was 100% accurate to what I asked for and it's great every time! If I ever have an issue, they fix it right away! Staff customer service: good! Everyone seems To work hard and do their part Bathrooms: yes, back corner Ambiance: chill, busy Vibe/occasion: date night, lunch spot, quick dinner, sit down at the bar, stop by for a snack Cleanliness: everything seemed pretty clean every time I've gone. There are trash cans for people to take care of their own stuff. I've seen inconsiderate people leave their trash and trays behind and staff is still quick to clear the table! Price/value/serving size: expect to spend $10-15 per person for a meal. You'll definitely want to try the onion rings and ranch. Serving sizes are good! This is a great value. Recommend to a friend/come again: yes (again I'm here 1-3x a week) Take out situation: take out is available Good for kids/family: yes. high chairs available. Kid friendly Consistency of food quality: consistent Serves alcohol: yes-- beers and stuff on tap Outdoor seating: yes Good for diet restrictions: vegan, vegetarian, gluten free Pet rules-pets allowed. Maverick (my dog) loves dog Haus!! ADA availability- ramp and ADA seating available Pros: everything Cons: none Ask for the neighbor discount!!
