Yelp
I love hot dogs. And as much as I shudder to think what's in them, it is still my go-to fast food when I'm traveling. I think hot dog joints should be as common as Starbucks or McDonalds. And if one hot dog place should be replicated on every corner, it should be Doggie Diner. I was in Plainfield, craving some fast food and I spotted Doggie Diner. (It's easy to miss, squeezed between Little Caesars and a dry cleaner in a small building facing the street in front of Menards.) For a moment I thought it might be a place to buy dog food until I saw the window sign that said "Milkshakes". I pulled in the parking lot, checked Yelp and saw that it was worth going inside. Once inside it took time to read their menu because it's seemingly endless... hot dogs, gyros, meatballs, burgers, chicken, submarines - turkey, salami, veggie, Philly steaks, hoagies... if you can put it between two pieces of bread, I think this place has it.
I went with the boring choice and got the hot dog with fries... but not just one for $3.69. No, I took advantage of their 2 hot dog deal with fries and a drink for $2.26 more! The first hot dog was delicious, bakery fresh bun (no sesame seeds - YAY!), the hot dog was just like I got from the lunch ladies back in school. The fries were the thin cut, grab-a-handful-dipped-in-catchup-and-shove-in-your-face kinda fries. One hot dog and I was satisfied. Then I looked down in the basket and there was another delicious beauty staring at me with enough fries that it looked like I hadn't eaten any yet. Well, of course, I couldn't throw it away. The next thing I knew my basket was empty and my stomach was pleasantly full. For a normal human, that would have been plenty, but I couldn't end the enjoyment there. As I was leaving I noticed that one of the shake flavors was banana. Banana..? I just had to know if it was a good as it sounded. It was. :-)
