dohō - Review - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Located inMt. Airy, dohō mixes Latin and East Asian cuisines and serves it up in small plates. So you'll find sweet potato tostones and skate al pastor on the same menu as chinese broccoli and fried rice with thai basil. There are also classic cocktails with twists—think a Manhattan with Szechuan amaro and espresso martinis made with Vietnamese coffee." - Candis R. McLean

I was so delighted to enjoy a delicious dinner at the new gem of Chestnut Hill: Dohō. The beauty of this modern-fusion restaurant was so well done I wish I had dressed more classy. My friend and I enjoyed the crema and nori appetizer, and sweet potato tostones. We also enjoyed the rad noodles with shrimp, lamb shank, and sourdough bun. Our server, the bartender Huy, was superbly professional, and all staff were gracious and friendly-especially the GM Anders. I will be back! Loved it

We’ve been to doho twice since it opened a few weeks ago. By far the best restaurant/culinary experience in Mt. Airy. The staff are all very friendly and attentive—best of all is that it’s apparent that they enjoy working there. The individual dishes are very good! My only complaint with the food is that the menu flavors vary substantially (with either a strong mexican or strong asian twist) and don't always pair well together. It feels like the cohesion of the menu is an afterthought, but it seems like it should be a main consideration—it’s a small plates restaurant so mixing and matching is required. It’s a bit jarring on the palette to transition from a salsa crudo appetizer, to a curry pasta, to a middle eastern lamb entree. Speaking of entrees, each time we have eaten there, the staff really hypes the lamb. The lamb is good, but it is similar to lamb shank dishes you would find at other restaurants. My main issue with the lamb being so hyped is that it really doesn't fit in with the rest of the menu at all. The lamb has a pomegranate molasses/middle eastern flavor while everything else on the menu has a decidedly asian or mexican twist. The real star of the entree section in my opinion is their korean fried chicken—it’s a delicious dish that is well thought out and well balanced, and is the dish they are most known for from when they did takeout tacos. My recommendation is to skip the lamb in favor of the chicken. We look forward to returning to doho many times to come!

Doho is proof that god loves mt.airy and wants us to be happy. It's really long overdue to have a proper sit down restaurant in this part of West Mt Airy with cloth napkins, silverware, paper menus, etc... . My wife and dined here Thursday evening at 6:30. We couldn't tell that the restaurant was even open. They have some sort of extremely dark tint on their glass which makes it look like the lights are not even on inside. There were a few patrons already there when we arrived, and within an hour the whole restaurant was full. We even saw a couple of our friends here which makes us love our neighborhood even more. We started off with drinks. I got the cherry tripel beer and my wife got the black manhattan cocktail. They were tasty. I would have liked if my beer was served in the appropriate goblet/chalice glass but that's the nitpicky snob in me. This restaurant is one of those shared plates kind of places. I prefer a classic 3 course kind of meal with an app, main, and a dessert so my wife and I ordered two small plates, two large plates, and two desserts. The food was tasty. You can't pin the menu down to one style of cuisine, it borrows from many. Our dishes were flavorful, and fragrant, and spicey. Anything but bland. The dishes are thoughtful and considered. It's one of those restaurants where the chef's name should be at the bottom of the menu. I'm surprised it wasn't. The service was lovely too. Someone greeted us when we entered, asked us for our reservation, and took us to our table. Our waitress explained the menu, answered our questions, filled our waters, and cleared our plates. Overall, our experience was great. We'll be back often. Hopefully all the new development in our neighborhood will provide the density needed to sustain these caliber of restaurants.

I LOVE this place and so do my friends. I have been to Doho four times since it opened, and I don't go out to dinner that much. Sure, the northeast has some decent places to eat, but with Doho our neighborhood finally has a place with a hip vibe that also serves great cocktails and delicious, inventive food. (They need to update the old description that Google still offers up, which points to their pandemic period as a takeout operation! And don't let the dark film on the windows fool you—they're open. Some down lighting outside might be a good idea.) The interior is lovely, with low lighting, a beautiful bar area, high ceilings and relaxed but glam feeling. It's not inexpensive, but it's 100% worth it—and I'm thrilled to have Doho here, instead of having to go downtown for great food with cool ambiance. Cocktails A+, food A+, service A+.

Absolutely delicious cocktails and dishes. Small portions but amazing flavors and variety. Attentive servers that were highly professional and hospitable. Could use some art on the walls, but it's only been open a week!

Doho is an outstanding new addition to the dining scene. I visited tonight and tried roughly 80% of the menu, and nearly every dish was a standout — thoughtful flavors, beautiful plating, and an overall fine-dining caliber experience without pretension. The ambiance is genuinely stunning — warm, modern, and intimate in a way that makes the entire meal feel special. Even though they’ve only been open a month, the restaurant already operates with the polish of an established favorite. A special shout-out to our waiter, Doug. He was exceptional — knowledgeable, hilarious and all without hovering. Also, genuinely enthusiastic about the menu. His service elevated the whole experience. Doho deserves to be packed every night. Highly recommend making a reservation before the word gets out — this place is easily a 5-star standout.

doho's grand opening was amazing. The food, service and ambiance were all 10/10. Highly recommend adding doho to your Mt. Airy restaurant date night spot!

A Culinary Revelation in the Heart of the Mt Airy. This restaurant is what Mt Airy and Chestnut Hill have been needing! This restaurant brings a level of culinary sophistication I feel is less prevalent outside of Center City. The menu demonstrates both restraint and ingenuity — technique-driven, seasonal, and globally inspired without feeling contrived. Each dish is composed with intention: the curry was deeply aromatic and perfectly balanced, while the masa gnocchi offered a unique twist on a classic with beautiful texture and depth of flavor. The wine list is wonderfully curated — eclectic yet purposeful — with staff well-versed in guiding us toward a great pairing. Service was warm, informed, and refreshing. This is the kind of place that elevates the local dining landscape. We’re already planning our return for some of the dishes we saw come out of the kitchen but didn’t have a chance yet to try! I can’t recommend enough.

Yelp
My wife and I ate at this new intimate little restaurant right off Germantown Ave in Mt Airy. They feature a seasonal menu that offers a limited number of really well crafted dishes. We got two starter plates, a pasta dish, and a main dish. The menu is meant to be shared and we found the portion to be just right. More importantly though were the flavors - we got the badger flame beets, scallop crudo, tagliatelle, and skate al pastor. Unfortunately we didn't have room for dessert, but the beer list was wonderful featuring a number of options from Tired Hands. I should also mention our server was very attentive and knew the menu well. The place is small so I can imagine reservations could be a little tricky in the future. All in all, we loved it!

Yelp
We had a lovely date night here and will be back. The menu is adventurous and captivating but it is hard to stay on theme. My stomach was very confused on what just happened to it by the time we finished our courses. From seaweed and cheese dip to scallop crudo to curry.. it was all delicious just not together.

Yelp
What a wonderful find!! Living in Chestnut Hill, where I feel there is a lack of fine, fun, classy restaurants, we were happy to see Doho featured on 6abc. The restaurant has a cool vibe (think an LA type restaurant) and the decor is warm and inviting. The food is spectacular. Our table ordered the strip steak (just recently put on the menu), the bass, and the confit duck leg. The sauces and the vegetables accompanying each were perfectly matched. Our server Ridgely (friendly, knowledgeable about the food and outstanding) suggested the sourdough steam buns to dip in the sauces and she was right as it brought out a whole new flavor to the sauce. The fried rice and the brussel sprouts added a nice complement to all the dishes. Our starters were the mushrooms (superb with the dipping sauce) and the squid ink spaghetti (the flavor of the calimari and the spaghetti were beautifully balanced with the bacon and miso broth). We didn't try the desserts so cannot comment on those. The food was beautifully presented and we were able to enjoy a leisurely meal. We are glad this restaurant has come to our area and plan to return. We hear that the menu will change based on locally sourced products so we are anticipating great things from Doho!

Yelp
Such an exciting new restaurant. Every detail carefully thought out. Tons of Veg/GF options. Perfect for the neighborhood. Half the meal I forgot I was in Mt. Airy. Can't wait to go again.
