Dok Khao Thai (Chevy Chase)

Outstanding upscale Thai restaurant in Chevy Chase. Nicely designed interior, well decorated for the holidays. The service is very attentive, staff is friendly. We had a variety of wait staff checking on us throughout, which was more than you'd expect from most restaurants. The menu is pretty unique, many specials and an extensive cocktail menu. The prices are expensive, but you can be assured the leases in this locale are as well.

I went during lunch with my aunt on a weekend. The scenery is gorgeous, wasn't too crowded, plenty of seating. The music was also pleasant. Multiple servers came over to check on us often, which was mostly appreciated. Their specialty house pad thai was the BEST from anywhere I've had in a while. I literally licked the plate. The curry puff (picture) appetizer was sooo crispy and the sauce concoction was to die for. The volcano thai tea dessert (picture) was delicious as well - not too sweet. I would make the drive again!

Drinks had lychee Thai ice tea, apps had the crispy duck roll and the fried egg rolls w salmon, entrees had their special pad Thai and the deep fried Branzino. All amazing food. The fried fish made me feel like I was back in Thailand. Dessert had the coconut cream sticky rice. Phenomenal all around loved everything about this place. This place is also on Resy if you have any Amex plat credit!

Excellent experience here celebrating a good friends birthday! We got complimentary appetizers which were excellent. My crab fried rice was great. Service was good. The atmosphere was beautiful and welcoming. Definatwly recommend for a night out with friends or a date night!

First time visiting and plan to come back soon. CJ at the bar was awesome and makes delicious cocktails and was very friendly and welcoming. Nat was also very helpful and let my fiend and I know about Happy Hour specials so we know when to optimize our return visit! Had the Street Noodles that were very tasty and filling. Definitely plan on returning soon. Thank you for your amazing hospitality 💛

Amazing food, attentive and friendly service, beautiful decor and lovely ambience. The restaurant was filled to maximum capacity on a Thursday evening. We are glad that we made reservations beforehand. We ordered the whole branzino (medium spice), lychee duck curry (medium spice), Thai tea tornado shaved ice (fun!) and the Thai tea crème brûlée. Everything was so so so good. The branzino was fried to perfection and the sauce on the side was super flavorful. It was not that spicy in my opinion. The duck curry spice level at medium was just right. My husband who is not very tolerant of spice felt that the medium was spicy. The curry was generously filled with slices of duck meat (no bones), bell peppers, pineapples, cherry tomatoes, lychee and basil. I wish there were more lychee because they were delicious in the curry sauce! The duck reminded me of Cantonese chasiu. The texture was a little drier than expected, so hopefully it’s more tender the next time we come. The shaved ice was so unique and delectable. Our daughter had a great time pulling out the plastic film to release the “volcano!” The combination of the salty cream over the sweet Thai tea shaved ice was perfect. We would come back just for the shaved ice dessert. The crème brulee didn’t taste like strong Thai tea flavor but it was still so delicious. We asked our server, Kit, if we can come in just for dessert in the future and he said it would be totally fine. Kit provided us top notch service throughout the whole meal. Towards the end of the meal, Pat, the owner-chef, came to our table to introduce herself and provided such a warm welcome. We were also surprised that she offered to take away our finished dessert plates. It was such a pleasant and humble encounter! Every server and staff smiled so warmly as we left the restaurant. This is probably now my favorite Thai restaurant in the DMV area. We live less than 10 minutes from here, so we’ll definitely be back! Lastly, we found out that they validate parking at the parking lot where Amazon Fresh is. We didn’t know so we parked on the street.

Very cute Thai addition to the neighborhood! Interior decor is very pretty and service was great. Our server was very kind and the owner chef came by our table to say hello- For the food, I thought it was very mid. All the dishes we tried were too sweet. The dessert waffle was just okay- I would still give them another try because they just opened. My favorite from here is the thai tea 😆

We are so excited to have Dok Khao in Chevy Chase! Chef Pat and her staff are wonderful! The food is amazing and there is a dish for anyone. I love the noodles, rice & soup dishes! Our family and friends love it as well! ❤️

OK, so this was our first time at Dok Khao in Chevy Chase. I specialize in reviewing the growing number of Thai restaurants in the area and Dok Khao can definitely be described as being in what I would call the upscale, and higher priced, segment. The ambiance reflects this -- this is a beautiful place with chandeliers, a bar area and when we visited the restaurant was packed. So, since opening it has obviously built a loyal following. Located on the corner of this new development, parking is a bit challenging for newcomers as the main garage entrance is around in back, a right turn off of Manor Rd, and parking for retail is farther back once your inside. The good news is 2 hours free parking with validation. Service was excellent -- we were attended to in good time and by a waiter who was able to give us his recommendations for the best dishes. I'll focus on 3 dishes, one that I ordered, another my wife had, and another that our friends had. From the Chef's Special list, the Lamb Massaman Curry was absolutely out of the park superb. I would put it on my list of all-time best dishes I have ever had at any Thai restaurant anywhere. With large chunks with onion and potato, wonderful moist and not overdone lamb, peanuts, carrots, coconut milk, topped with fried shallots and served with curry fried rice and egg, this was an absolute 10. My wife had a noodle dish (Crying or Cry Baby....) that was very good, I would rate at an 7 or 8. Our friends had Pad Thai, which while pretty good was not quite up to the versions that can be found elsewhere in the area. One of our dinner companions remarked that it needed more fish sauce flavor and my assessment was that it lacked that certain "zing" that Pad Thai can ideally have while not overdoing things in the fish sauce area. It would be nice, generally speaking, to see restaurants providing more green onions/scallion with this dish as one would see in Thailand. I did have one of the cold drinks on the menu, Lychee Iced Tea, which I found to be quite enjoyable. A number of reviews of Dok Khao in Chevy Chase complain about the food lacking flavor, but others give this place 5 stars. I'll be going back to sample other dishes. One observation applies -- this is part of the trend of more expensive Thai restaurants in the DMV. The problem with this is that there are so many smaller superb Thai establishments that provide excellent Thai cuisine at sharply lower prices. As good as the Lamb Massman Curry was at Dok Khao, it's pushing the $30 mark when at other restaurants in the area there are superb versions of this at far below that price. I think this is something that needs to be kept in mind by all of the more upscale Thai establishments, even taking into account obviously higher prices everyone is facing now.

It presents well, but not a top recommendation :-( Upscale ambiance if you're looking for a memorable spot for date night or a nice occasion ... however, the food on our visit was average, especially when factoring in the premium price and dish sizes. We ordered the Pad Thai, Panang Curry and Fried Pork (over sauced). HITS: Restaurant ambiance, inviting bar area, fast food service. MISSES: Place settings, oddly, included fork and spoon, but no knife (making it tough to cut anything to eat) .. this was accentuated by the intermittent service after food was delivered to the table. Small plates also make it difficult to do "family style" sharing.

I think this place is beautiful; the vibes and the aesthetic of the place are amazing. It feels like I'm outside while being inside. The service also was amazing; our server was very friendly and attentive. There was a dish she noticed was untouched and asked if everything was okay. We got the crispy pork basil which sounded great, but the pork just had an unbearably strong smell to it so we were going to just leave it. Our server noticed and took it off the menu which was very sweet. For appetizers we got the crispy salmon rolls and the curry puffs. The curry puffs were delicious; crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and nice curry flavor (kind of like a samosa almost). The salmon rolls were not my personal cup of tea; I'm just not sure what the wonton wrapper and the fryer really did to the roll. Also completely my fault, but I think part of me was expecting the salmon to be raw even thought I knew it was going to be cooked. I think the concept was interesting but it just wasn't for me. The panang curry was good; the flavors were nice and the chicken was how it usually is. The flank steak kapow was also pretty good; nice flavors and the meat was cooked well. I think overall our experience with the food was okay; we had the one dish we couldn't eat at all, and there was nothing that I had that I loved/ stood out to me. I would still go back and try things off the chefs special menu next time though. Overall, I think for what we got, and for how the food was on the pricier end, I wasn't wowed by the food.

Great local spot. I highly recommend the cry baby noodles. On the weekends they have also added in bottomless drinks.

Me and a friend went here for a nightcap. I saw the restaurant on Resy and knew immediately I wanted to check it out. The bar and overall restaurant is gorgeous -a Social Media dream. The food was so well presented and it tasted fantastic to boot! We joined for their grand opening so they were rolling out the red carpet for their guests! They gave out a pretty good mocktail to everyone in the restaurant, what made the mocktail special was the piece of young coconut in the drink. They gave out free appetizers to everyone as well, which was pretty good. The owner, a sweet woman gave the appetizers out to everyone and the manager gave out the drinks. The bartenders were nice too! The only thing I would criticize is the delivery was really odd. Some mannerisms of the staff were kind of odd. Not that they're bad or anything, but they were just off. But, I mean just check-out our Thai Tea bingsoos, definitely worth getting! Will definitely come back to try some dishes. The prices for the area were also excellent, so wouldn't mind making this place a regular place.

I liked Dok Khao for what it is: a pretty place to eat decent Thai. The decor is indeed beautiful: High ceilings, lots of floral decor, a fountain in the middle, and green & gold tones reminiscent of a British afternoon tea parlor. Is it the best, most authentic and affordable? No. Service was a mix of attentive and not. We finished an early dinner in under an hour and one server did always ask how the food was once we were served, but there were several times we were looking to flag down our server and just could not get a hold of them. So for the food: - Healthy Appetizer - This was my least favorite dish because it was so loosely wrapped that everything fell out and apart as soon as you took a bite. I also didn't enjoy having minced chicken in the rolls versus bigger pieces of chicken. - Phuket Chili Crab - The pumpkin was nice and soft and I enjoyed the curry. The legs of the soft shell crab were nice and crispy but the body of the crab was very a bit mushy and on the verge of not being ok to be served (i.e. the super seafood taste) - Fried Banana & Coconut Milk Ice Cream - The fried banana was nice and hot and crispy, but it tasted more like vanilla ice cream and less like coconut milk ice cream; I could not taste any "coconut" in the ice cream Overall decent Thai eats for Chevy Chase *They do validate parking, thank you

New Dok Khao in Chevy Chase!!! I'm a huge fan of the Columbia location so I was super excited about this new location! The restaurant is beautiful--well lit with green walls and flower decors all around. The bar looks nice too! Food did not disappoint! The portions are generous, prices are reasonable and the food is WELL FLAVORED. The menu is quite extensive so you have many options to pick from! Started off with Steamed Dumplings and Tom Yum Soup. For entrees, HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Shrimp Pad Thai and Spicy Minced Chicken on Rice!! The Sesame Ginger Beef was good too--marinated tender flank steak but had a sweet kick to it. Cocktails here are AMAZING--pretty and picture worthy--I love their Lychee Martini. The others enjoyed their DK Old Fashion and Purple Rain too. One thing that needs improvement is their table seating timing--we had reservations and still had to wait about 20 mins to even be seated. The host (or manager, not sure) offered us a complimentary dessert, which was a nice gesture--we picked the Sweet Sticky Rice & Mango which was delicious! Overall, this place just opened so I'm sure they will adjust and do better--can't wait to come back!

I cannot say enough good things about this incredibly tasty spot!! The moment you walk in the door, it feels like a photographer's dream. I just wanted to take all the pictures I could! The bar is stunning to look at as well. We had a wonderful server who was very attentive. My friend and I ordered their non alcoholic drinks which were delicious! I had the Chaces Royal and my friend had the Garden Party. We started off with chicken satay which was very nice. Chicken had a nice flavor and was very light. Enjoyed the peanut sauce! I ordered the Kaprow with soft tofu, extra hot. And my friend ordered the drunken noodles with chicken very very mild. Each of our dishes were fabulous. I definitely want to come back and try more on the menu and to soak in the beautiful atmosphere again!

Friendly staff and good service. The crab Rangoon was flavorful and the spring rolls were crispy. The crab fried rice with added shrimp was okay, and my friend's noodle with chicken dish missed the mark, but the manager handled it well. The lotus cheesecake was a standout, and the decor is lovely. I'd consider giving it another try.

Love this new Thai restaurant up on Connecticut in the Ritz Carlton development. It's a big and bustling place, filled with bright colors, gold, and a gorgeous bar. It's also filled with diners and jam packed. We had the larb gai, spicy and beautiful, dumplings, tom yum soup with chicken, pad see ew with chicken, green curry, flank steak salad, and chicken kapow. Everything was great, though the soup seemed a bit duller than all the other dishes. Cocktails were gorgeous and delicious. Next time we'll eat at the bar.

Experiencing the grand opening with a welcome cocktail, chef-delivered amuse-bouche, and I may have met everyone that works in this establishment already. Each staff has delivered a Thai iced tea, or explained the ingredients of the order, and been very attentive to empty plates and the like. This is a gorgeous open-area space with booth/bench seating, a centered fountain, decorative bar, mirrored ceiling panes, vintage tiled floors and fantasy colored walls and drapery. I ordered the Wonderland, the Doi Pad Thai, and the chef special golden bags as an appetizer.

I usually go to the Columbia location, which is always delicious. Tried this one and it was just okay. Appetizers (Bangkok wings and calamari) came out warm, not hot -- possibly premade or frozen. Entrees (Siam Chicken and Fried Branzino) were average, but nothing special. Our server was attentive, though he didn't share his name at first. The space is cute with floral decor and a nice fountain, but I'll stick with Columbia next time.

First time at Dok Khao and it was pretty standard Thai food. The drinks were decent, but you could barely taste the alcohol. Food: My friend and I shared the wings and calamari for appetizers. The wings had a thick layer of breading and were a bit too sweet for my taste. The calamari had good flavor but definitely needed to be fried harder -- I'm all about that crispy crunch. For mains, we ordered the pineapple fried rice and Thai green curry. Both were solid, but I've had better. Service: Service was mid at best. It was super packed, and the place seemed a bit understaffed. Our server forgot a few things we asked for -- hot sauce, silverware, and even water -- which was aggy. Ambiance: The decor is cute, but the space is tight. Tables are crammed together, and the waiting area is right by the entrance with zero room to move. We had to wait outside just to breathe -- not ideal, especially when it's crowded. Provided my video below for you .

Beautiful Interior and the service is excellent! I enjoyed the food and will try the desserts the next time I visit. I'm glad it's near my home so if I have a craving I can get there quickly. Parking is easy and in a garage. Check it out and let me know!

I've been to this restaurant twice now and have really enjoyed my experience both times. The ambiance and decor in the restaurant is really cute and well done. The servers have been attentive and helpful as well. We enjoyed our meals there and the menu has plenty of options for vegetarians as well. I look forward to trying more of their foods! The Dok Khao pad Thai has been my favorite so far. The sweet spicy soy sauce is amazing!

Dined here with friends for the first time & liked it a lot. I excellent service, nice ambience, and delish food made for a win-win. I e ordered the healthy spring rolls with peanut sauce. Nice sized portion of 6 rolls for 2 people as an appetizer. For our main courses we ordered a duck dish and the special pad Thai, both of which were nicely flavored and beautifully presented with just enough heat. Only problem is that the table was too small for 2 couples with multiple dishes. Since I'm gluten sensitive, appreciate the dishes with thin rice noodles. Highly recommended. We also asked for separate checks but only got one.

I don't think I'll go back. The server messed up our order so we got two of the same thing and then when we got home I realized the to go food was also wrong. Disappointing. The mango sticky rice was delicious, but we asked for extra sauce and did not get it.

We went on day two. We showed up with out reservations after 7 and there was a lot of people and a 15-30 minute wait. Totally fine. We were seated in less than that. Considering they just opened things seemed to be moving along like a pretty well oiled machine. It too a bit of time to get our appetizer but worth it - the food here is excellent. The tom kha gai was perfect - not too sweet or spicy. The sweet and sour chicken was excellent as well - and the portions are not too much and just right. The decor was unique for a Thai restaurant but very nice. I wish there were some more soft surfaces as it was very loud when all the tables were full. We met the owner while there and she is a delight! So nice and caring. All in all we can't wait to go back and try more dishes.

Love love love this place and glad to have another location closer to dc so I can drive over and enjoy. Amazing service and beautiful decor. The dishes are phenomenal. Crab Rangoons are a must! I always want duck dishes so got the spicy basil crispy duck curry and man at a medium spice blew me out of the water but still loved and the basil aroma was fantastic. Def will be going again!

FINALLY OPEN! We've been waiting for Dok Khao after loving their Columbia location so much. I can definitely say, we were not disappointed. The inside was nicely lit and quite spacious with modern furnishings and cute decor. Food was as amazing as we remember. Pad thai here is just SO GOOD! Also can't wait to try ALL the desserts and cocktails. It'll be hand not to keep coming back now that it's in the neighborhood!

Our crab dish was not freshly prepared. Rather it was cold fried crab covered with a warm sauce. The whole thing went soggy fast. It's suppose to be a signature dish. We also found everything too sweet We didn't understand the great reviews. Service was pleasant and it's an attractive place. They have a kitchen issue IMHO

Wow! Having been many times to Columibia location, we were very excited to try the Chevy Chase location. Everything about this location is just so much better than Columbia. More space between the tables. Less noisy. And the food? Just wonderful. Lamb curry, branzino, and the amazing house pad thai were delicous as always. The wonton seemed a little skimpy - lot of broth, few fillings but it was enjoyable anyways. We'll be back!

Incredible! Already planning our trip back!! Great food and drink menu. A total crowd pleaser. Our waiter was helpful and gave grate recommendations. The vibes were amazing. Super ecstatic and CUTE!

Nice ambiance, food was great, wonderful drinks. Unique decor, however parking is incredibly tricky here as it's attached to an area that is clearly built around a set of condos, so you just need to figure out where the parking garage is and then walk a few blocks.

Absolutely delicious. We got the crispy salmon roll and tofu wings as appetizers and the seafood tom yum noodle soup and tofu panang curry as entrees, then finally the lychee cheesecake as dessert I would say you can skip the two apps we got (they were good just not my thing). Lychee cheesecake was the best cheesecake I have ever had and I would recommend to everyone. The interior was also beautiful -- very aesthetically pleasing. Wait times were a bit long, but our server was very kind and please note that your parking is validated for 2 hours!!! I had to run back to my car to get my parking ticket and I only had 2 minutes to get back.

Absolutely outstanding! Dok Khao Thai Eatery is easily one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with warm smiles, beautiful decor, and that amazing aroma of fresh herbs and spices that instantly makes you hungry. Every dish is a burst of flavor -- perfectly balanced between sweet, spicy, and savory. Just want to have everything that's on the menu! The service was exceptional, too. You can tell they really care about creating a great dining experience.

The food here is fabulous. It's beyond delicious. Can't wait to go back The ambiance was beautiful and the service was excellent. The owner came out to greet us after the dinner which was awesome.

Food is really good a cut above any other Thai restaurant I've been to in DC area. But so noisy as to ruin the experience. Over 100db at points and consistently over 90db. Management says they're going to fix it I would waits and try when that's done.

Food lacks flavor. It's diluted flavors for unsure which audience. Everything was sweet or syrupy. Not Thai food.

I absolutely LOVE this place! Tried it for the first time and had to come back a few weeks later to eat here again. Definitely make a reservation for dinner on the weekends - it's bustling! The staff are so friendly, and Chef Pat delivered our food to our table and came around to say hello. The pad see ew is one of the best I've ever had, and the mango sticky rice was so tasty. They have an extensive menu with lots of great meat and veggie options so I'm excited to keep going back to try new things!

The food was less than mediocre, the menu is too large and the descriptions are false advertising. The soup had some awful meat in it and the food was less than appetizing. They also put a 20% service charge on the check. It's pig with lipstick on.

Darn. I really wanted to love this place but giving it 2 stars (maybe 2 1/2 if that was an option). The specialty cocktails were great - expensive but tasty. We had the Spicy Daisy and a Thai basil gin martini-like drink (a "chef's special") that both packed a punch and had really interesting flavor profiles. The appetizer, Golden Bags (a special by Chef Patty) was a bit dry but good flavor. Doubt I would get it again but it was perfectly enjoyable. For our entrée we had Crispy Pork Basil and Panang with Chicken. The pork belly and spicy basil sauce was fantastic but it was served with "steamed vegetables" that I swear were microwaved Bird's Eye frozen vegetables. I apologize if this is not the case but they sure looked and tasted like that. The Panang curry was probably the highlight of the meal - spicy but not too hot, awesome flavor and definitely craveable. Unfortunately, the chicken was dry and very forgettable. Bottom line - with a final bill of $120 (including a generous tip for very good service and a nice atmosphere), we won't be coming back unless to sit at the swanky bar for a couple of tasty but expensive drinks and maybe an appetizer.

This place is unbelievable! I know Thai as I am Billy Thai. Purveyor of over 200 local DMV Thai restaurants and eateries. I sat at the bar with great saloon keeper and bartender CJ. He is friendly, knowledgeable and keeps the drinks a movin'. The green color scheme throughout is appealing and gives you an immense feeling of warmth. I began with the Kanon Jeeb and it was perfectly made. The amount of crunch and tastiness of the crab meat combined with the sweet, sweet soy sauce made for a great beginning to my meal. I then ordered the Pad Prik Khing with chicken and it was phenomenal. I have eaten this one dish alone hundreds of times and this was in the .0763% of the top offering I have ever experienced. Huge portion too. The chicken was perfectly sauteed and tender. The green peppers and other veggies crisp and flavorful. I'm shocked I cleaned my plate. I live several towns away but I will certainly be back again and again. Kudos once again to beyond pleasant CJ. Sawatdee ka!

Good ambience , slow service , too much sugar in the good / loses the genuine Thai taste . I suppose for the American palate . Pricey , but generally if you like American Thai food it's okay . You can get the same ton yam cheaper in Rockville and Wheaton . Overall good place to bring your clients or American friends .

Awful experience with this place. Ordered delivery with their website. You are told only after paying how long the wait is (70 minutes for us). 90 minutes later, no food. 3 phone calls to the restaurant and 120 minutes later, no food. 140 minutes later, the food shows up while we are on the phone asking for a full refund. Initially, they agreed and then said we will only give you a 50% refund and you can keep the food. We said no thank you, please take it back and give us our $100 back. This is a complete lack of customer service - if a restaurant was truly apologetic about their error and wanted a repeat customer, I would expect they insist you keep the food and a full refund. Will never be ordering from here again.

outstanding and delicious food - unique and exciting desserts especially like the thai tea (shaved ice) bingsoo and the sticky rice w thai custard. Standout special appetizer was the coconut rice. Even the jacketed shrimps appetizer which we love at most olwzved was especially delicious here. We will definitely e coming back!

Felt like a factory. Crazy ambience; very disorganized, loud and food was standard fare. Nothing memorable. Not bad, but just "fine". Nothing worth rushing back for.

its a nice place BUT All the food are the same : SuPer Sweet. Thai food are supposedly a mix of sweet sour and salty. this is Not as expected. the prices also are Expensive

The food is delicious and the restaurant is cute. The noise level is deafening. Granted we were there on a Friday night but my appple watch kept alerting me that the sound was over 85 decibels . We could not hold a conversation. The Ac was also freezing. Next time only for take out.

This new Thai restaurant in Chevy Chase is a new addition to a group of Thai restaurants owned by the Pathana. The space is nicely decorated but has two flaws- there are no blinds to block the sun rays at sunset , and the AC ducts are situated directly above most tables and blow cold air on the diners. Air deflectors are essential. The menu is extensive and expensive compared to other excellent Thai restaurants in Rockville and Laurel. Most dishes at this place are $1-$2 more than in the Columbia branch. The healthy rolls were tasteless and instead of peanut sauce they are accompanied by a sweet sticky sauce. The Pa Low Gai soup is listed as spicy but was also a tasteless mixture of large pieces of dry chicken (marinated according to the menu), rice noodles ,one piece of Chinese broccoli, no bean sprouts, and about 1/2 cup of tasteless broth. The eggplant was good but the soft shell crabs at $31 were a flop. The crabs were heavily coated and deep fried instead of sautéed in butter. The crabs were placed on top of tasteless mush of pumpkin (?) and drenched in a nondescript brown sauce. A delicate seafood made into a mess. There are many excellent Thai restaurants in Montgomery County which serve much better food at lower prices. Complimentary parking

Their food is premade then unfrozen, that's why they can't change the spice level. For a new restaurant, these people are extremely rude, cursing under their breath in front of kids, because they didn't like the tip. Their attitude is awful, and the food is nothing special compared to other restaurants in the area. I sincerely do not recommend coming to this restaurant for the rude behavior and the lack of respect for customers. They should be wooing customers not taking us for granted.
