"To state the obvious: The Dole Plantation is a totally kitschy, touristy experience. But if you can get past (or even get excited about) the hoards of pineapple memorabilia and the tourists that look straight out of central casting, it’s actually a very fun stopover on the way to the North Shore. For starters, there’s fresh, juicy, just-picked pineapple around every corner. Visitors can also check out the pineapple-shaped garden maze, which is the largest maze in the world, or the “Pineapple Express,” a just-for-kids train that circles the property. The real reason to go, though, is because the Dole whip here tastes even better than the Disneyland version."

My wife had wanted to visit the Dole Plantation since she was a little girl, and I was glad to share that moment with her when her dream finally came true. You can feel the excitement as soon as you drive onto the plantation; the vibrant color yellow is prominent everywhere, especially on the plantation's big house, which is painted yellow. The first thing we did was purchase tickets for the Pineapple Express Train. During the tour, we learned about Mr. Doe and his passion for the pineapple business. We also saw pineapple fields and old farming equipment used for harvesting pineapples. Don't forget to take a picture before you board the train; those photos make great souvenirs, though you will need to purchase them. As we exited the train station and headed towards the big house, we were greeted by various types of live pineapples growing in flower beds on display, which was really impressive. Once inside the big house, one of the first things we did was buy some pineapple ice cream and a cup of the whip. The pineapple ice cream was delicious, but the whip was even better! There was also a gift shop for souvenirs, and my wife picked up a shirt to take home. Overall, it was a wonderful experience to visit the Dole Plantation, a place I had grown up admiring. Now, I had the chance to see its origins in Hawaii. I highly recommend including this stop on your itinerary when you visit the island.

Google
The parking was crazy. Took about 25 min to find an open spot. Once parked, I enjoyed the experience. Took our three granddaughters, and they enjoyed the day. Train ride was a highlight for them. It was hard to hear the intercom portion of the tour over the tracks noise. If you have never been, you should come by. The history of how the company was started, how pineapple was introduced into Hawaii, and the founder was interesting. The grounds are amazing, and there are plenty of photo opportunities if you like amazing Hawaiian plants and flowers. Bring extra money as the gift shop has lots of space, items, and choices for younger to older people. And a can't miss is the fresh Dole Whip. It is just better here, and you can choose to have fresh pineapple added to the top. This is a dont miss if you are in this part of Hawaii.

A visit worth taking if visiting Hawaii. Although the Dole plantation is quiet commercialized it does provide great history regarding how Dole and the pineapple plantation started and eventually cement itself into the Hawaiian culture and U.S. pop culture. In addition to history, those who are into cultivating/gardening may also be further intrigued by the many tropical plants here. This place is great for families with younger children. Plenty of activities to enjoy such as the train ride and the maze. There is a cafeteria serving a variety of typical cafe entrees you would expect including those containing pineapple. High recommend the Dole whip. It was great and even the younger kids noticed it was quite different then what they have had at amusement parks on the mainland. The gift shop is rather large. It also houses several several stands that provide an opportunity for local vendors to sell their homemade crafts. Customer service all around was a great experience. Had a wonderful time visiting this spot. I would recommend setting aside a few hours (3 hours) for the visit. I recall the train ride is the most popular. I recommend getting tickets early for the train.

Google
It was crowded and hot. Both were expected at a historic destination during summer. We paid for the train and a garden tour. The only complaint I have is that I wish it was a tad bit more organized. Still, we enjoyed the visit very much. The fresh pineapple and the ice cream are out of this world

Google
Dole Plantation – 5 Stars! Visited July 2025 Fun, short train ride through the plantation with some great info about pineapple growing and history. The kids really enjoyed it, and it was the perfect low-key activity. Of course, we had to get a Dole Whip—delicious as always!! Surprisingly not very busy, even on a Saturday. We walked right onto the train with no wait. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in the area!

Google
Amazing experience, at Dole plantation that was our first time to visit and. As soon as we got in we tried the pineapple juice which was amazing and then we ate some of the fresh pastry, and we had the pleasure to go on the pineapple express, which was very interesting 2 miles of cruising through the amazing fields of different plants. Definitely a very good experience.

Google
I recommend visiting Dole Plantation. The maze was a ton of fun along with the train ride. Make sure you do both. The gift shop was extensive and had a lot of high quality items. The food line looked long but it moves fast. The quality of the food was excellent. We all got something different and we all enjoyed our meal. They need to spend some time keeping the grounds cleaner. They were areas of the plantation that could use a bit of help. Overall it was a satisfying experience. I wouldn’t give it any less than 2.5 hours to see it all.

Google
Fantastic!! Well presented and reasonably priced. The whip is better than anywhere else on the island of course!! The plantation train was fun and informative as was the tropical garden. Both were full of interesting and useful information. The on-site restaurant serves a variety of food options that are absolutely fabulous!! Souvenirs are amazing and adorable. Dole Plantation is a must see!!

Yelp
Definitely a tourist trap, but we still had lots of fun. When we were there on the week day, it wasn't that busy and there were open parking spots. It was a sunny day so bring your hats and Voss water. Lots of stuff to explore. We were there for like a hour. There's a big maze and a train tour around the whole area to see the pineapple farm. We bought the original dole whip pineapple ice cream. Tastes way better here in Hawaii than back at home for some strange reason lol. Definitely recommend getting the pineapple products. We got some stuff for souvenirs too for the fam and kin.
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely a tourist trap, but still great to visit at least once nonetheless. Been here about 3 times, pineapple fro-yo is a must. They don't have the pineapples smothering the frozen yogurt like they used to, but it's still better than California Disneyland. Pineapples are slightly sweeter in Hawaii but not overly too much. Gifts are cool here too. We haven't gone on the train tour but there's plenty of picture spots to take. Overall, nothing super special about this place but like I said, it's great to visit just once in a lifetime. But I normally wouldn't come back here if visiting the island.

Yelp
WHY WE WENT HERE: - I personally wanted to visit a Dole Plantation location because when my paternal side of my family came to the U.S. it was through Hawaii; they worked on the Dole Plantation (on Lanai); since we were on Oahu visiting other relatives, we decided to go to this location THE EXPERIENCE: - trying to find parking once you approach this location can be a bit of a nightmare; it's like trying to find parking in Costco on the weekend or at the mall during the holidays - once we parked we knew we had a limited time to see the grounds, so we headed straight to the ticket booth to get tickets for all 3 things (garden tour, maze, and train) - because the garden tour and the maze were self-paced tours, we decided to go to the train first since that ran on a schedule (I believe there are 3 trains running that show up every 15 minutes) - the wait for the train took over 2 hours; we didn't know about the "fast track" option until we were already in line for over an hour - when you get closer to the platform they take your photo for you to view (available for purchase after you get off the train) - the way the train ride is filled with people is NOT efficient at all (not at the level that theme parks with roller coasters do it) - the train ride was lackluster; the audio playing during the train ride is pretty grainy (as if the speakers are busted); the pineapples were just freshly planted from my understanding so we didn't see any ripe growth ready for picking, which was disappointing as well - because of how long it took for the train ride, and the fact that we essentially went around the garden (both during the wait to be on the train and the train ride itself), we didn't even both to go to the garden tour - we then went to the maze and our tickets were not even checked to go in; we finished the maze in less than 5 minutes so that was pretty disappointing as well - overall this is definitely a tourist trap and I DO NOT recommend coming here unless you just want to take a nice photo with "Dole" from the front of the grounds by the parking lot or just go to the gift shop

Yelp
We've made it Dole Plantation two, maybe three times. It's a great place to stop on your travels between Honolulu and the North Shore. Though we wouldn't call it a bucket list experience or make it a destination in and of itself. Dole Plantation is a great place to visit if you want some great tasting pineapple-anything. We usually get the ice cream, but it is so packed with sugar we can only do about 2-3 bites. But, yowza are those bites good. As you would guess, they also carry a lot of pineapple themed trinkets and souvenirs to buy and take home. It's a historic pineapple plantation that's now open to the public. Would recommend you do an hunt and find on the web to get an understanding of the history and what that means to the island. This is a "must-stop" for most tour operators so it's usually busy with hundreds of tourists ranging in age from newborns to near the end and offers a handful of activities suitable for all. We have not taken part in any of the following, but they are available: Train ride around the plantation (this is a miniature train like you see at amusement parks.) Pineapple Garden Maze Dole Plantation Factory tour Parking which is plentiful and close is free. It's also free to hang out and shop. The activities and of course food and drink cost. The marketing says you can spend a day there and with the activities maybe so. We had our fill of the pineapple experience after about an hour. It's the classic definition of a tourist attraction.

Yelp
Free to park. Free to explore. You do have to pay for activities. But stopping by for lunch or a sweet treat is great. They do offer military discounts too. If you do the train ride i suggest putting the kids inwards rather than on your lap because i got smacked two times by a branch and a bush during the journey. But it is a beautiful tour around the plantation, and i highly suggest splurging for it. love that the staff feeds the strays that wander around property. It's the sweetest.

Yelp
The infamous Dole whip tour in Honolulu! Overall impressions is that this was definitely a tourist destination. The minute you walk in, first thing you'll see is the gift shop! If you're a pineapple fan, this place is the pinnacle of pineapple heaven. I've done the whole Dole whip thing at Disney, but this experience felt more Dolesome! Ended up buying some pineapple flavored coffee beans, li hing pineapple candy and pineapple gummies. Make sure you head over to the pineapple cutting station for demonstration and fresh cut pineapples to taste. Super sweet and refreshing slices of pineapple sprinkled with li hing mui! Friends and I also went on the Pineapple Express tour, and it was scenic. If you're in Honolulu and headed up to North shore, make sure you add this to the itinerary. Well worth the trip for a slice of Dole pineapples!

Yelp
What an amazing trip here! Purchased t-shirt for hubby as a souvenir! Got 2 boxes of Pineapple chocolate crunch! Had the fresh slices of pineapple of course to take home! Dole whip is a must so we had one !! Brain freeze effect always a must!! Not enough time to go around the plantation and shop!! Would like to comeback another time for sure!

Yelp
Our recent island tour led us to the Dole Plantation, and what a delightful stop it was! This place is a treasure trove of everything you could possibly imagine when it comes to souvenirs and treated pineapples. It almost feels like a pineapple museum, showcasing the sweet fruit in all its glory. Having visited before, I thought I knew what to expect, but I never tire of tasting and exploring all the delicious pineapple treats on offer. One standout for me is the iconic Dole Whip - it's light, fluffy, and tastes like a tropical dream! It's the perfect refreshing dessert on a warm day, kind of like a sorbet that just melts in your mouth. The atmosphere is vibrant, and the staff is friendly, making the experience even more enjoyable. Whether you're looking to indulge in pineapple treats or find the perfect souvenir to remember your trip, the Dole Plantation is a must-visit. I can't wait to go back and savor all the goodness again!
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
It was super cool to see all of the souvenirs in the store. Got some cool goodies for a gift! Decided to stop by and grab some dole whip after a hot beach day. Was delicious and was $8, it's a bit too sweet for me though. I was irritated with the line for checking out products. I got in line and the lady decided to leave for about 5 minutes to help a guy with something but she didn't say anything and just left. Decided to get back in line in the back, but she came back right as I left. Wish she could have said something before leaving for a bit. It was busy so it wasn't fun going all the way back of the line again.

Yelp
We make the Dole plantation a stop for everyone who comes to visit us! They definitely nail the dole whip and their roasted nuts (macadamia and cashew) live rent free in my mind. Though it can get very busy, the entire plantation is large and when you're outside it doesn't ever feel too claustrophobic. Inside where everyone is purchasing food and souvenirs, can be another story but you can find your way around pretty well. Plenty of seating if you choose to snack both inside and outside, clean restrooms, lots of trinkets! You can pay to go on a train ride (which in it of itself is pretty short and the line is always long) or go through a maze--I don't think either are a must do though. Walking around and reading the plaques and seeing the growing pineapple is very fun though! It's a fun place to spend an hour or two and trust me when I say the pineapple roasted cashews will be one of your favorite treats on your trip. They are a little expensive (about $8 for a cone that can easily be eaten in 4 mouthfuls) but savor every bite and grab a bag to take home later. TIPS & TRICKS: * Food trucks in the front if you want a meal, but I'd suggest getting just some snacks here inside and eating up in Haleiwa 10 minutes away. * There is always plenty of parking, and be sure to take a photo next to the rainbow eucalyptus trees in the parking lot! They are stunning and the only ones I've seen on the island!

Yelp
My 5 stars are for the pineapple DOLE WHIP!! Its vegan and gluten free and tropical island refreshing bliss in your mouth! Pricing starts at $7.50 but the portions are generous so we shared. You can get it in a cup, cone, waffle cone/bowl, as a float, as a pineapple split, etc-- or with toppings such as fresh pineapple chunks or toasted coconut. We went with Dole whip in a cup with fresh pineapple chunks (note only pineapple flavor Dole whip available here)-- and it was EXCELLENT!! Definitely worth the stop! The Dole Plantation is on the way to North Shore from Waikiki,so an easy add to your itinerary. You can go to the Visitor Center (shop), have Dole Whip, eat at the Plantation Grill, and even see some pineapple plants and read about how pineapples grow and the plantation history all without paying for a tour! There is plenty of parking and the grounds are beautiful with vibrant colorful plants as well as rainbow eucalyptus! The store is pretty large with extensive pineapple foods and pineapple things, and more-- as well as artisan products. I purchased wooden Monstera earrings (only $10!), as well as a quilted wall hanging and matching pillow cover (30% off!!).

Yelp
If you're a big pineapple lover, this place is a must visit! I would say this is more of a one time visit for the experience if it's your first visit in Hawaii. I ordered the pineapple dole whip with lihing powder. It had the perfect tartness and sweetness. It's also cool you can walk around the place and see different kinds of pineapples.

Yelp
One of my favorite places to visit when we "cruise the island". Train rides never gets old and must have pineapple ice cream!!

Yelp
Lovely place! We were hesitant to visit the Dole plantation, but decided to give it a try. We were pleasantly surprised. There is plenty of parking on site. It easily accessible. Take some time to see their trees that have natural bright colors on the trunk of the tree. It looks like someone took a paint brush and randomly painted the trees. The colors are natural and beautiful when you see them in person. I have never seen anything like it. We purchased tickets for the train and garden maze. The price was reasonable. There are some vendors selling souvenirs as you walk towards the ticket booth. One vendor that stood put sells wood carving that are beautiful. Expensive, but beautiful and they ship it for you. We purchased our tickets and headed to the entrance to get on the train. There is a cute railroad crossing booth before you enter. We were in line for about 15 minutes. Not bad. They took our picture before we boarded and you have the option to purchase your pictures at the end of the tour. The train ride itself was very relaxing and informative. There are also some beautiful views along the way. We learned a lot about the plantation and also learned some fun facts about pineapples. There are several spots to take some good photos. Worth it! If you love beautiful plants then you will love the garden maze. There is a wide variety of plants. You can also do an audio tour to learn more. They have signs posted along the path that include the name of the plant and other info such as what it can be used for. They have some trees and plants that I have never heard of or seen before. There is a lily pond and a koi pond. It's all so pretty. You can purchase some food for the koi. They are not shy and swim up, right in front of you. I loved it! We could not go without having some of their famous Dole ice cream with chunks of pineapple on top. You can purchase the ice cream from the food truck or inside the main building. It's must! So tasty and refreshing! We also tried some fresh pineapple juice. It was the best that I had. I bought a large and took it back to the hotel with me. I enjoyed it by drinking some for the next couple of days. I wanted more! There are also a variety of vendors inside selling souvenirs. They have something for everyone. You can also order some pineapples of your own and have them shipped. You can fill out their order form or order online. There are many photo ops at the plantation. It's a great place to take some fun selfies! Tip: if you want to enjoy a pineapple after your visit, drive across the street. They sell pineapples there. They are juicy and sweet.

Yelp
(Oahu, North shore) Food: Dole soft serve with fresh pineapple (10/10) - review is solely based on this. Hands down the best pineapple I've had so far. Has perfect sweet/tart citrus taste. The soft serve has the perfect texture. Really refreshing and taste good on a hot or even cool day Setting: has a a lot of souvenirs and pineapple combo. Venue has a maze and train ride Parking: private parking.
google avatar

Eva L.

Yelp
Did the Plantation Garden Tour and Pineapple Express Train Tour. Best part is shopping at their store. If you like taking pictures then the Garden is for you. Lots of colorful plants and lush greenery as background for pictures. The Train Tour was more on learning the history of the plantation. Lots of things to see and buy at the store. They have everything from snacks to socks. I especially like the variety of snacks, both pineapple flavor and without pineapple. Lots of souvenirs with pineapple logos. Had the popular Dole whip soft serve. It's like a cross between a sorbet and soft serve ice cream. Best if you have it with the vanilla soft serve to balance the tart flavor of the pineapple .

Yelp
When on the island of Oahu you have to visit the Dole Plantation, touristy as it may be. We only strolled the property and had the Dole Whip. A delight to the palate. If you go only for that it's worth the visit. 107
google avatar

Whit D.

Yelp
If you like Pineapple anything stop here! This is definitely a tourist stop. Fresh dole whip . Yum ! Delicious; cool ; and creamy. There is a long line to order dole whip and food. Three registers. The staff is okay; not very friendly. Just ask basically what you want and tell you the total. There is outdoor seating on the patio; but when it's busy no tables available. Was debating about doing the train ride; however there was a huge line for it. If we had more time sure. There is also a maze; that can be pretty fun. Plenty of parking; they have their own parking lot. The gift shoppe is huge; lots to look at and purchase. You can even have fresh pineapples shipped to your home; expensive .... But you can do it.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This place is always A1. You cannot go to Oahu and not visit this location. Tour is really fun but the store alone makes it worth the trip. So many stuffies and the dole whip is out of this world! Do not miss this location. Get the whip with extra pineapple, they're the sweetest pineapples you'll ever have!!
google avatar

Crystal K.

Yelp
A fun place to get pineapple dole whip, souvenirs, and tour of the great garden on a trolley
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
Sweet on the inside, spikey on the outside. Come get your fresh, tangy, sweet dole whip at Dole Plantation. Dole Plantation is a fun place to visit. In 2008, it was acknowledged as the largest maze in the world. We found all 8 secret island stations without any strategy. We timed stamp our card and went into the maze. It took me 31 minutes but I still placed first out of 6 in our group ;) There's a stencil metal block on station. You'll need to insert the card and pencil/traced to make your mark as proof of finding each station. Anyways, you'll have to try it, if you haven't to fully get the experience. We rode on the Pineapple Express Train Tour. It's a quick tour of the plantation which showcase the many different plants and fruits from cacao, banana, lychee, koa tree, bamboo, macadamia nut, and of course, pineapple. We also did a quick walk around the Garden Tour. There were all kinds of plants and flowers. It's a nice garden tour. I felt relaxed strolling around the garden. It was beautiful. Thank you for ready my review. Have a great week ahead.

Yelp
I'm here in Hawaii and of course has to come get a dole whip! It's really cool being here. The line was long but went by fast. Absolutely delicious as always!!
google avatar

Delta R.

Yelp
Came on a Thursday morning for the dole whip. To my surprise the place was packed! I headed straight to the dole whip counter to order, the line was long but it went rather quickly. My dole whip was delicious. Smooth and creamy, and the added pineapple pieces is definitely a nice addition!
google avatar

Ten H.

Yelp
Complete tourist trap. Would highly recommend skipping. We only spent our time inside their gift shop and it was basically a glorified ABC store. Their pineapple chunks were sour, and cost $21. You can go to Foodland and get some fresh pineapples for $7 instead. Those were much cheaper and much sweeter. From what my other family members told me their train ride was super boring. The only thing worth coming here for is perhaps the dole whip. Its a tad fresher than Disneyland. Unless this place offers more in the future, I would recommend skipping in the interim.
google avatar

Jenn R.

Yelp
Went here years ago with my family and the only thing I remember was buying a red dirt shirt. My mom instantly regretted this purchase as its dye bled onto other clothes when it was thrown into the washer *slight evil giggle* So, we didn't do any of the tours because the lines seemed long. Instead, we spent time walking through at their big gift shop! Plenty of things you think you need (you don't), but buy it anyway because they're so insanely cute and priced very reasonably. Hit up the Dole Plantation Grille for some Dole soft serve, take that sucker to their outdoor patio (they have umbrellas for shade), and enjoy the scene! THE PARKING. It ain't bad, but I may be biased because we found parking right up front. THE RESERVATION. Lots of different tours offered (trains, gardens, pineapple garden maze). Tickets may be purchased on-site at the ticket booth on the day of your visit. They stop selling tickets 30 minutes prior to closing time. COMING BACK? I'd come back to do a few of their tours... and more gift souvenir shopping.
google avatar

Gladys P.

Yelp
I l-o-v-e pineapples so of course I had to come here and OMG, it was so much to take in. I got a pineapple keychain, magnet, ornament, shirt, stuffed animal, and then had to stop or I would have spent all my money. The train ride was nice, seeing how pineapples are planted. Got our dole whip and they even had a corn stand outside. They have a big ALOHA sign that's great for pictures.
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
The infamous dole whip is a bit tangy and sour rather than sweet, but of course a highly coveted treat in Hawaii! The waffle cone option is the best because of course it comes with a fresh waffle cone and a chunk of pineapple. The chunk of pineapple is not edible as it is the core... Definitely tried the freshly roasted nuts that are coated with a bit of pineapple! Pecans were the best! Tons of outdoor seating with umbrella coverings. Good parking. It gets busy so come early! Train tour was absolutely adorable but definitely more for kids than adults. Garden and shops are available to walk for free. Maze and farm requires an additional fee to tour (as well as the train)
google avatar

Patinka ..

Yelp
Pineapple sanctuary! It is fun but also just prepare to spend $. Especially if you bring kids there are so many different things you can get there everything pineapple inspired. Everything is cute and expensive lol Make sure you spend time in learning some facts and history because there is a lot more to this place than just cute pineapple toys. It's definitely a must do stop on the way to the North Shore and it's a yummy and fun stop. I would say everyone should go at least once
google avatar

Darlene M.

Yelp
If you're a tourist in Hawai'i, then Dole Plantation is perfect for you. Definitely stop here, and have a good time! There's a train tour, and there are vendors and a big store with over-priced souvenirs. There's a cafe with local plates and Dole Whip desserts. We just walked around and took pictures, then had Dole Whips in the outdoor seating area. There's ample seating indoor and out. I admit the place is cute, but I usually skip this place when visiting the islands. We only went this time because my niece hadn't gone before.
google avatar

Jocelyn C.

Yelp
I highly recommend coming here for any of the tours. Unfortunately, this last trip, I was only able to take the train tour. Also, unfortunately, it wasn't pineapple season, but got to see lots of plants growing of all kinds, and the tops of the pineapples. Lol. If you're a pineapple lover, this is definitely the place to come to. I fell in love with the store! Hence, which is why I was not able to take any of the other tours. There was no time, because I spent too much time in the pineapple store. Lol. I had one of the pineapple floats & it was so yummy! Especially, for the weather. I definitely would love to come back to this place, my next trip to Oahu & do the othe
google avatar

Shirley N.

Yelp
Returning from the North Shore back to Ko Olina we saw the signage for Dole Plantation. We'd been there for both the tour and the maze in the past. Both are paid admission. However the gift shop and the grille are free to enter. We pulled into the very busy parking lot. Walked into the gift shop/grille. Caught the pineapple demonstration which is held every hour on the hour. We wrapped up our visit with their Dole Whip. Hubby with a cone and daughter and myself with a cup. We found a table alongside the building which has extended roof shading. There are ample picnic tables with patio umbrellas too. All in all a nice treat.
google avatar

Mykalah L.

Yelp
Pineapple are my baby favorite so it was only right we brought her here :) She had the time of her life . From everything pineapple to a whole train . She got lost in the maze and recovered with a cool train around the park ! The dole whip is a plus!!! 10/10
google avatar

Divya R.

Yelp
Decent trip .. it is free to visit except some paid adventures like maze and a train ride. Cute gift shop, demos of pineapple cutting, chocolate video with super small samples :) Cafeteria with food items. Nothing special as such but how Dole Pineapples are the best and dominate the entire US market, is one of the landmarks to visit so it's cool to spend an hour if the location is not too far and you have time.
google avatar

Stephanie L.

Yelp
Everything in this place cost$ and we ended up spending over $200. We did not get on one tour or a ride or even walked around. this place seems to be less about Dole, but more about the Hawaii plantation Entrance is free and parking is free . If you've never been, it's worth a visit, but if you have been before once is enough . The main things to see here is the huge gift shop and the restaurant. There is a PAID tour, train ride, and corn maze. We only did gift shop and restaurant. Honestly, after my second time here I can do without coming except all of their food, and gift shop is slamming lol we spent $200 between the restaurant and the gift shop so beware of this tourist trap because you'll spend end up spending so much money you don't even realize.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
Dole Whip from the Plantation tastes way different than Disneyland and the Costco ice cream! We didn't do the tour, we stopped at the gift shop on our way back from the North Shore. Grab a few gifts and the line inside for food and Dole Whip was pretty long. There is also a food stand outside and a truck where you are able to get your fix!

Yelp
Went here on a Sunday afternoon. Bought the ticket for the combo including the Pineapple Express Train tour, Plantation Garden tour, and Pineapple Garden Maze. Ticket for combo is cheaper compared to buying each tour separately. The Pineapple Express Train tour lasted 22 mins. One hops on the train which goes around the plantation. There is not a live person who will be a tour guide telling you about the plantation; it's an audio recording with some songs that will be played throughout the train ride. Though there were markers for the different plants, I still thought that the plantation was a little disorganized and not kept well. After this, I did the plantation garden tour (which is different from the plantation itself). This is a self-guided tour of the garden that contains different plants and flowers. Some of the plants that were in the train tour were also present in this garden. The garden was alright - nothing impressive. I then did the garden maze. This is a huge maze which children and adults can enjoy. There's an app that can be downloaded if one does not want to use the good ol' pencil and small piece of cardboard with some clues that are available at the ticket booth. Even though this was the maze I first ever walked, I just did not have the patience to finish it. After getting two clues, I went back. My final stop was the Dole store. Souvenirs, shirts, soaps, mugs, plants, pineapples are some of the things that were in the store. Hot food is available here. I liked the Dole Whip (soft serve) with fresh pineapple and hi ling powder. It was a perfect combination of sweet and sour. Very refreshing. Though the Dole Whip is a must try, it is available in Waikiki that one does not really have to go here just to get it. Overall, I was not impressed by the Dole Plantation tour/activities. Besides if you are staying in Waikiki, this is far and will take you about an hour to get here by car (way longer if you commute by bus!). If you want to try the Dole Whip, you can get it at Waikiki. If you decide not to go here, you did not miss anything really. No wonder circle island tours that has Dole in their itineraries only include the store. Dole Plantation visit is all hyped up and not really worth your time and money. You are better off exploring other places in Hawaii.

Yelp
I'll drive the 40 minutes out here just for the Dole whip! Everything else was just so so. Took the train tour and it looks like they have not done any maintenance since they built it 30 years ago. The tractors are rusted and broken. The garden tour was nice. The chicken teriyaki was dry but a good size portion for the price. Nothing special about the hot dog.

Yelp
I'm adding a star for the ice cream with pineapple on top. Tourist trap extraordinare. Gifts gifts gifts. Nearly $30 for a toy train and obnoxious narration of weeds and dilapidated abandoned equipment. Shame on you guys what a rip.

Yelp
You can't leave HI without stopping by the Dole Plantation! This family-friendly spot offers the Pineapple Express train tour, a garden tour, a garden maze that you could check out, as well as their Grille, which offers apps, entrees, sandwiches, as well as their famous Dole Whip! After perusing through their amazing gift shop, we focused on getting their Dole Whip - we ordered: +the #4, Dole Whip Soft Serve Waffle Cone - the waffle cone was freshly made, and there was a nice slice of fresh pineapple, stuck in the soft serve +and, the #2, Dole Whip Soft Serve Regular Cup - an extremely generously-sized cup, this can be easily shared between 4 people! The Dole Whip was SO GOOD - it had the right amount of creaminess, sweetness, and a bit of tartness; not artificial-tasting at all! It was so refreshing and quite addicting! You can check out their rear patio, in which there are several picnic tables for you to enjoy your food. Don't forget to check out the cute growing pineapples! Friendly staff! +Dole Whip! +great gift shop +plenty of parking

Yelp
Fun area for souvenirs, doing a long winded maze, checking out a choo choo train. Cute hello kitty and snoopy souvenirs available. Also great dried fruit shops, dole whip available inside and out. Gets really busy though and tons of fruit flies. They have a promo right now where if you spend $100 (excluding on sale, Hello Kitty and other items -- read fine print) you get either a white chocolate pineapple crunch or regular chocolate.

Yelp
I'm not sure what to think about this place, seems like a big tourist trap, it's just a giant souvenir store. We didn't do the train tour, so maybe we've missed out on the real attraction and I'm not being fair. With that said, if you're driving around this is probably a stop to hit.

Yelp
DOLE ME UP BUTTERCUP | Sure, it may be seen by some as a tourist trap, but I learned so much about pineapples that I never knew was possible - so it was worth it for me! We didn't do a tour of any sorts but we did stroll the garden by the entrance, took a short class on pineapples, and perused the gift shop, and bought the classic famous Dole Whip soft serve at Plantation Grille. I had no idea baby pineapples were so cute! And that they grew on bushes as plants (ok I'm probably wrong in terminology still lol), not trees. They taught the the best way to disassemble a pineapple and cut it in the most wasteless way. She even sprinkled on li hing powder for us to try a few pieces and it was so sweet (from the fruit alone) and tasty. And of course - the dole whip. The menu at the Plantation Grille is massive for the dole whip dessert. The Dole Whip Cup with topping is the perfect way to end the visit. Not too sweet, not too tart. And in the cup, it's an instaworthy dessert for sure. Overall, while I can't speak to the paid tour entry, I do recommend stopping by the plantation to try some dole whip and tour the grounds (complimentary!)

Yelp
I really loved this place! I wish we had gotten there earlier in the day so we could have taken the train. I think the wait time was an hour. Regardless, we had a great visit! We had a chocolate covered pineapple and pineapple soft serve. The pineapple was huge and too much/wet/messy but the soft serve was delicious!! We also spent some time picking a variety of candies to take back home for our friends to enjoy! I definitely recommend this stop, just plan better than we did!

Yelp
Their dole whip is very overrated. It tastes a bit too sour for ice cream. I liked the gift shop though. There was a lot of things to look at.

Yelp
Came here as part of a tour and it was lots of fun! I didn't have the time to do the maze but I was able to explore the shop and try the dole whip. There are lots of themed items for sale and I bought a jacket. It's definitely a popular spot but they have self-check out and different registers available. Definitely a nice place to visit!

Yelp
The Dole Plantation is one of Oahu's biggest tourist destinations, complete with a huge parking lot that actually gets pretty filled. It contains three attractions, all of which you need to pay for: the Pineapple Express Train Tour, Plantation Garden Tour, and Pineapple Garden Maze. They also have a casual eatery called The Plantation Grille, which has its own Yelp page here that I also reviewed: https://www.yelp.com/biz/dole-plantation-grille-wahiawa-2 We only did the Plantation Garden Tour because the line to buy tickets for the train was too long and is first come first served, and the maze did not interest us. Out of the attractions, the train is the only one where you get an actual tour experience. The garden tour just buys you access to walk around their eight gardens. There is also nothing really to do for free. The Plantation Garden Tour was sufficient for our visit (and the cheapest of the three attractions), and we did enjoy walking around looking at the labeled tropical plants with various informational boards. It's definitely a one and done kind of thing that took us less than half an hour to explore while taking photos and reading. They have a vast souvenir shop where we spent a long time deciding what to purchase, and there were even things on sale. They had some pretty good shirt designs, cute plushies and trinkets, and so many snacks. Most of these things were expensive, and you can find souvenirs for cheaper elsewhere on the island, but we don't regret anything we purchased (except some candy that didn't taste too good). My #1 tip I'll give is that you can buy fresh pineapples and bring it with you on the plane. One of our biggest regrets was not buying pineapples to bring home, because we saw some people doing that on our plane ride back. You can also pay them to ship it to your home, but it's really expensive. I'd entertain the idea of coming here again, but there's no real need to visit more than once. It's nice to eat some very fresh and delicious pineapple and Dole Whip while seeing the feral cats and critters, but I think next time I'd rather seek out a farmer's market instead.

Yelp
Headed to the Dole Plantation but for what else but Dole Whip soft serve with fresh pineapples on top. This place has a menu that incorporates pineapple into just about everything and while the lines can be long it goes pretty quick. You can also buy plenty of pineapple and other related items including shirt and even jewelry - my wife bought a pearl charm - in their huge store front. You can also take a walking tour of the plantation or a train tour or get lost in the life size maze. All in all a must stop especially if it's your first time to the island.

Yelp
It's a must for some Dole Whip! It's also nice to be able to walk around the plantation while eating some Dole Whip. You get to read the boards of information teaching you all about pineapples and how they are planted and grow. There is a gift shop of many snacks and merchandise for you to buy as well. I always like to stop by either on the way or back from visiting North Shore. Plenty of parking.
