My friends and I went to Dolly Varden at 1pm on a Sunday. We made a reservation, which I highly recommend if you plan to eat here. I tried one weekend to get in as a walk-in, and the wait was really long. The ambiance is slightly elevated casual, and the noise level was fine.
I got the Captain Crunch French Toast ($19), and my friends split the Dolly's Grilled B.E.C. ($22). This is totally on me, but I should have looked up an image of the french toast before. Captain Crunch is my favorite cereal, especially with the crunch berries, and I was expecting to delve deep into a sweet monstrosity. However, it was just regular french toast coated with grated cereal. So in that regard, I was disappointed. I thought the french toast itself was light and moist, helped with a thin layer of cream in the middle. The ice cream was... interesting. If you're a fan of the Try Guys, they did a video where Keith's ice cream came out with a gum-like consistency, which is kind of how the ice cream felt. My friends both mentioned the B.E.C. was average, and nothing stood out to them.
Our waiter was friendly and accommodating and did multiple check-backs. Overall, for a restaurant located so close to the touristy things, the prices are not bad. If you're in the area looking for decent food, definitely check out Dolly Varden.
