Dom Sancho

Visiting Sortelha was the highlight of my trip, and dining in D. Sancho restaurant was the cherry on the top. The restaurant is very small so I highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The food was very fresh. A simple tomato and lettuce salad was so good and fresh. Not the usual store lettuce bag we got used to. Be aware that the portions are huge. We had Cod fish and wild boar. We tried hard but could not finish the plate! Again ask for the local wine. Beira wine does not get enough credit for its amazing taste.

Amazing dining experience. The best ambience of any restaurant I have been to. Rustic, romantic, beautiful and classy. Delicious food and affordable too. I can't recommend this one enough.

One of the best dinners that I've had in Portugal (and there have been many!). Seriously, the food is absolutely sensational - and really authentic to the Beiras, the rustic ambience of the restaurant perfectly sympathetic with its location and the wine list ridiculous in quality vs price (we had a couple of the local reservas (from Belmonte) which, in New Zealand, would comfortably be 4 -5 times the price). Very highly recommended!

Dining in this restaurant was a dream. Starting from the medieval castle ambience, the beautiful decorations, the cozy feeling, the excellent attention and their delicious food. Definitely we will be back !

I was at this beautiful location Sorthella .Unfortunately there aren’t many places to eat around in the area .You are forced to choose one of the two restaurants if you staying inside the castle .We chose D Sancho after reading the reviews.We arrived at 08:30pm ,placed our order immediately.The waitress attending was non cooperative and lacked hospitality in all senses .She needs to be taught to deal with prople nicely as she isn’t doing a favour on anyone,She is running her business and we are paying for the service .We were made to sit till 09:30pm without any food served or intimation.On asking her at 09:27pm we were told she said she doesn’t know how much time it’s going to take. Not even once even for courtesy sake she came and apologised for the delay .It seems people don’t have an option so they are taking people for granted .We were frustrated but we had to bear with it .It was very rude and unprofessional on the part of the restaurant not being able to provide one dish on our table in 1 hour. And yes the restaurant wasn’t full , it had only 3 tables occupied . If the restaurant cannot deal with the orders taken they shouldn’t guests and their orders .It is absolutely horrible . We had to leave the restaurant without eating as the lady gave a damn not even sorry moreover she opened the door so that we could leave ..Worst service and attitude in whole of Portugal . If you are ever here ,do not waste your precious time at this unprofessional place … Most ppl have written good reviews ,probably the place is nationality biased .All the other tables were served promptly while we waited forever. They for sure don’t treat Indians and Asians well . A little suggestion for the restaurant “You are coz we are your customers , it is not a favour on us by any means “

I had gone there to have my dinner however the waitress there was very rude n was racial I was shocked with her attitude she took my food order n didn’t give me food for 1 hour when asked her she was very rude n infact there were no many guest in the restaurant she said will take some more time she was not even apologetic n infact said I will have to wait Bad experience in the whole of Portugal all other place the people were nice n helpful but this place is not worth it Should be avoided as this restaurant is very racial
