I came here to try this out with friend on a Saturday evening. We around around 5pm and were able to get seated immediately. The lighting was dim (was not great for food pictures, haha) and the ambiance was very romantic here. It was buzzing, not loud, and had a small-town, upscale, yet casual vibe.
Our server was very nice, knowledgeable and helpful with wine pairings and answered all questions we had very thoroughly. Upon browsing the menu, I knew I wanted the Tagliatelle for my meal, but wasn't sure on what wine would pair nicely with it. Traditionally with seafood, a white would pair better, but I was curious of any of the red wines would compliment the dish too. Our server offered three options, 2 whites and a red. She also asked which soup I was thinking about and took that into consideration too. Ultimately, I decided on the Shea Chardonnay and was very happy with it! My friend got the Italian wine flight and she liked all the wines she had too!
For starters, we each ordered a cup of soup. I opted for the Tuscan soup and my friend got the Chicken soup. My soup was tomato based with chorizo and spinach. It was a bit salty, even to my taste, and I usually like my foods salty and it was served not even a tiny bit warm. I don't know if it was supposed to be served that way, since my friend's soup was piping hot. A small loaf was bread with olive oil was also complimentary. It was great with the soup, toasty on the outside and soft on the inside.
The atmosphere here seems to be pretty relaxed. She gave us time to chat in between getting our wines, to taking soup order, then to taking our entree order. The speed of service was more relax and we felt well taken-care of and not rushed. On the contrary, it would probably seem slow to some people, but I appreciated it because my friend and I had a lot of catching up to do.
For entrees, I ordered the Tagliatelle and my friend ordered the Mushroom Risotto and added scallops. The tagliatelle had scallops, shrimp and tomatoes in a light herby, garlic sauce. At first it didn't look like a lot of food, but they were very generous with the seafood portion. The two scallops were good size and the four shrimps were large as well. The noodles were light, but filling. After I ate about half of it, I was starting to get full. The seafood was fresh and fragrant and the dish was delicious! We didn't have room for dessert, but there were a few offerings on the dessert menu that looked quite good.
There is also a little store connected to the restaurant where you can purchase any of the wines on the menu and they also offer many more selections of other wines. Overall, it was a very cute place in Stillwater. I am looking forward to coming back in the warmer months and enjoying a nice glass of wine on their patio.
