La Table de Monrecour

"This gourmet restaurant is housed in a contemporary extension at the heart of this estate overlooking the Périgord countryside. It is furnished in a resolutely classical style and reflects modern culinary tendencies with the skilfully prepared and flavoursome dishes. Perfect for hotel residents, and anyone else." - Michelin Inspector

Only ok. Bed very hard and pillows not great. We had room 18 in the annex for 2 nights and it was a bit of a dungeon, very little natural light. Seems newly renovated/built so can’t understand why this wasn’t considered in design honestly. Air con in room really noisy (intermittently, so wirs up then wirs down all night) really annoying coupled with uncomfortable bed made for an unpleasant nights rest. Bizarre interaction with reception to begin with where we were told we couldn’t eat in the restaurant any of the 2 nights as we hadn’t pre reserved. We then pointed out that it doesn’t say on the confirmation email that you need to reserve as it gets busy (my fault I guess for not thinking that could be a mistake..,). Anyway, after a few hours panic they managed to fit us in for dinner that night, but we were told that we couldn’t eat there the second night, I’ve no idea why as when we were paying at the restaurant we asked if we could book for the second night and they said yes! So we did eat there both nights, no idea why reception was telling us we couldn’t. Bizzare and an unnecessary worry for us. The restaurant was nice, service great, food good on Sunday but not so good Monday (I suspect, different chef in kitchen). Cheese supplement clearly straight out of supermarket packets and was embarrassingly bad. Breakfast was pretty bad, coffee from coffee machines very, very poor, otherwise not too bad but quite a lot of mould on one of the bits of ham from buffet. Another rigmarole with reception about an iron and ironing board, we asked for an iron and ironing board but there is a laundry room where you can do it yourself, however reception told us that they were looking for the ironing board for us and then two hours later told us that this room existed and they didn’t provide irons and ironing boards- why? Bonkers waste of time for us. Tv didn’t work and reception had to come fix.|Bizzare place, won’t return. Nice grounds though.

A beautiful Chateau in a stunning location in the Dordogne valley. We stayed for two nights, on both mornings we woke to the low lying mist in the valley. The bonus was to watch hot air balloons sail past our bedroom window on the morning we left. We dined in the restaurant one evening which was a delight, the food and wine were fabulous. All of the staff are friendly and very welcoming. We loved it

Two of us enjoyed three nights at the Domaine du Château de Monrecour. Our 2 twin-bed room was in the annex on the first floor. Entrance to the room is from the outside. Upon entering, there is one step down into the room. Once the door is locked, a key is required to unlock the door from the inside. The floor is tile. There are two large windows in the bedroom and one in the bathroom; all can be opened. The beds are comfortably firm. Towels are replaced each day. The bathroom has 2 sinks, a large towel warmer, and a large walk-in shower. There is a separate toilet room. Furniture consists of 2 straight-back chairs, a desk, a luggage stand, an armoire with hangers, and a cabinet containing a safe and a refrigerator. Everything in the room was very clean. The Domaine’s beautiful setting is on the side of a gentle hill overlooking the Dordogne valley. On our last night we enjoyed dinner at their restaurant. The décor, service, wine selection and food were all five-star.

Chateau gorgeous, rooms big (we stay in Chateau, also for cheaper choice you can stay in dependences) Breakfast was just great as a service, diverse choice of food (pastry, yoghurts, cold cuts, cheese, fruit salad, fresh baguette, coffee and tea). Staff try to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. We stayed for NY and celebrated in their restaurant. The menu was nice, and the service excellent. Also big park for walking and relaxing.

We had an anniversary dinner here, and it was lovely. We've visited before for lunch, which has always been great. This was the first time for dinner, and it did not disappoint. The atmosphere of the restaurant is wonderful, the staff are knowledgeable and friendly, and the food is delicious.

We loved our stay! Everything was perfect. Our room was great. Stunning bathroom with jacuzzi tub and shower. Fantastic breakfasts. The fact there are 2 pools is wonderful so that the children aren’t bothered by the adults and visa versa. The restaurants were terrific all around the area. Our one dinner here was just ok, but it might have just been an off nite as they were always busy. Very quiet and relaxing. We will be back

Fabulous location, easy to access and lots of parking. Stayed in a standard room that felt a little bland. However, we welcomed the AC and the bathroom/shower was great. Our room was large with a seating area and good views.... Just lacked something. The hotel has 2 pools and one is adult only, so very quiet with excellent views over the grounds and surrounding area. Breakfast was a highlight, lots to choose from, great coffee available to take inside the chateau or on the balcony. We didn't eat in the restaurant but enjoy drinks in the bar in the evenings. A car is essential as there isn't anywhere within walking distance for dinner etc. ||Overall, a lovely hotel that we enjoyed but it just doesn't hit the spot for top marks from me. Some small things would make all the difference including more information on check in, information in the room about the local area, and more attention to decor in the room.

Overall average experience at the restaurant which is disappointing considering the price level. Food was a 4/5 but service was average at 3 and atmosphere/ambiance was poor at 1. Food presentation was a 5. Foie gras and cheese plate were average which is surprising for the region. Risotto with a supplement was not worth the extra money. Scallops, goose breast and chocolate dessert were great. Service was average mostly because the waiter and waitress would drop and run. I ordered wine pairings and I can not tell you what wine I had as they poured and ran away. As for the poor atmosphere/ambiance, the lighting is way too bright. You need sunglasses. Dimmers need to be installed to create a more intimate/romantic environment. Lastly, there was a table of 7 sitting next to where we were seated. 4 adults, 3 children. The parents allowed the youngest of the three to ruin the evening of many patrons as the child was permitted to run freely throughout the dining room. From one end to the other with multiple stops at our table. When the child wasn’t running he was whining at the table as he demanded to be free to roam. The parents may have thought it to be cute but this was not the place for them or their misbehaved child. The wait staff never even acknowledged this with us during service or even when we were paying. This was the ultimate disappointment as it would have been appreciated had they at least mentioned it or offered an after dinner drink as a way to express their thanks for us having to be seated directly next to the inconsiderate family.
