The most exciting new MICHELIN Guide hotels for November 2021

"These days, the greatest luxury to be had in the south of France is a little privacy. The most sought-after experience is that of being a guest in a private home — which explains the appeal of a place like Le Mas de Pierre." - Le Guide MICHELIN

Le Mas de Pierre

"Oh, the Riviera, which sows such dreamy expectations and then too often rewards them with traffic jams and crowds. But wait. Just when you were ready to write off this Gallic paradise on the Med, in reality one of the most densely urbanized places in the whole world, someone opens a charming little hotel like Le Mas de Pierre, just outside of terrifyingly popular St-Paul-de-Vence. Sitting by the pool at this intimate, low-key place where 48 rooms are divided between seven different mas, or stone buildings designed to look like traditional Provençale farmhouses, it’s still possible—amazingly enough--to enjoy a distant horizon of unbuilt countryside. Though they’re several swell-known hotels in St-Paul-de-Vence itself, the town is so fraught that it’s much better idea to pitch tent at Le Mas and day-trip in the region. Rooms are attractively done in white limed traditional Provençale furniture, pretty chintzes and southern French color schemes of melon, yellow, and lavender with waxed parquet floors and over-sized plasma televisions hidden away in armoires. Baths are marble faced, well-lit and come with piles of fluffy towels, good lighting and Etro toiletries. A well-equipped fitness area includes a sauna, hamman and spa-treatment rooms. The real luxury here, however, is the peace and quiet—the only noise you hear on a summer night are crickets—and the fact that every room has a terrace or balcony. The only missed beat is a pricey restaurant with fancy food, when what you really want in this setting are great salads, grills, pasta and Provençale classics."

Le Domaine du Mas de Pierre (Saint Paul de Vence, French Riviera / Provence) 17 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"These days, with the Riviera as crowded as it is and Provence practically a borough of the city of London, the greatest luxury to be had in the south of France is a little privacy. The most sought-after experience is that of being a guest in a private home — which goes a long way to explaining the appeal of a place like Le Mas de Pierre." - Tablet Hotels

I wanted to share a long week end with my family at the Mas de Pierre after a phenomenal 2-night stay solo in March. The place didn't disappoint. Quite the opposite, actually. We were upgraded to a Deluxe Suite with our own garden and jacuzzi. This was a welcome touch and we very much enjoyed this wonderful and spacious room. Staff is friendly and responsive yet never in your face like it is in the US. We didn't try out the Michelin-starred restaurant as we preferred to explore dining options in the area. We will definitely be back some time soon as this hotel, for our taste and needs, is definitely a gem. And, yes, we can't wait to try out "La Table de Pierre" for dinner!

We chose Domaine du Mas de Pierre as the first stop of our trip to the South of France and stayed for two nights. The estate is expansive and beautifully maintained — the gardens are lush and carefully tended, making walks around the property very relaxing. The entrance, with its sculptures and cypress trees, feels refined yet laid-back. The spa facilities are excellent and extremely comfortable; they immediately took away all the fatigue from our flight. My partner and I really enjoyed the indoor spa area, especially the hydrotherapy pool and sauna. Our room came with complimentary mini madeleines and fragrant soaps from Grasse, which we felt were thoughtful. Most of the staff were friendly and attentive, and they handed us two bottles of water after check-out, which was a lovely touch. During our stay, there seemed to be a company retreat happening, so the restaurant was fully booked. As we hadn’t made a reservation in advance, we opted for room service on both evenings. The food on the first night was satisfactory, but on the second night the steak we ordered again was unfortunately overcooked. One small detail — we brought the welcome drink from the lobby back to our room, and the next day the housekeeping staff had poured it out in the bathroom sink but left the lemon slices next to the drain. That felt a bit careless. Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay at Domaine du Mas de Pierre, and we would love to return again someday — perhaps with our parents to let them experience the charm of Provence as well.

The resort is simply amazing in every aspect - the property itself, the design (both interior and gardens), and the aroma! We thank all the staff at Le Domaine du mas de Pierre and especially recognize Toma at the reception who made our stay extra special. The spa staff were very helpful in assisting us. And both drivers of the shuttle to and from the St-Paul-de-Vence were attentive and friendly. We thank you for such a fantastic stay and would love to come back!

Charming hotel on a hill outside Nice. The rooms have good size balcony. They are nicely decorated. Great bar and very good breakfast. The spa was fabulous. The restaurant in the hotel is ok. 3 very good pools in different water temperature. All in all we loved it. Great service.

Simply stunning location, a quiet oasis outside Nice surrounded by beautiful mountains. The gardens are immaculate and the scent of herbs follows you around. The Lagoon makes you feel you are in the Caribbean. Staff are attentive and the spa is fantastic, all in all a real find! The only negative is the food is average (head to one of the mountain villages for food) and expensive but as a destination hotel it’s amazing! 🤩

We spent a few nights at this elegant and relaxing hotel in early September. The room was beautiful and the facilities and service are first class. The outdoor pools are unheated but were warm enough to swim in when we visited. The spa and indoor pool are fabulous. We did not dine in the hotel but instead made use of the complimentary shuttle to eat in St Paul de Vence each evening which worked very well. We did have breakfast in the hotel one morning but this was underwhelming.

Google
A great stay as part of our honeymoon across France. Every staff is friendly and goes out of your way to help you - huge shout out to the valet and concierge team (Christophe). Room was beautiful - and the flower on first day was a very nice touch. Love the spa as well - only suggestion would be to add conditioner in the spa shower area. The property itself is also very beautiful with scenes of serene greenery and garden. Would come back

Gorgeous, expansive, yet intimate property, tucked into the hills. It was incredibly busy when I arrived due to a couple of events taking place on-property. After a slight miscommunication upon check-in, Camille - and later Audrey - stepped in and turned things around, which I so appreciate. My room had the most gorgeous view off the terrace. Shuttle to the village is easy and super accessible. Definitely plan to return.

Yelp
Nice grounds, very poor service, and very expensive. Bottom line, what hotel would ever turn off their air conditioning for all rooms in entire hotel when the room temperatures are 28 degrees C? Le Mas de Pierre does, and even when you make sure they are aware they do nothing about it. Imagine trying sleep in a room at is that hot all night, ok, it got down to 24 degrees C if we keep our doors open only the have bugs and mosquitos buzzing around. I am sorry, but this is unacceptable! Add on top of that, every time we called from our room to bring the car around it was never there. Once we arrived at the lobby, had to ask a where from one the three times.....service? none. Sit at bar, no one there? Try and have morning coffee and some service, no one there.....service yourself and then get charged 8 Euro for coffee. Again, beautiful grounds, but this was also the case for two other couples that we knew there. Stay anywhere else, Welcome Hotel, Belles Rives, Du cap Eden Roc, where ever, but not Le Mas de Pierre!

Yelp
This place is beautiful and the surroundings are gorgeous. The staff is kind, professional and thoughtful. Here are some some considerations in that would help the hotel improve the guest experience or be used as a means of setting expectations for anyone coming here expecting a 5 star experience. 1. The mattress is the hardest bed I've ever slept on. I didn't even know a mattresses came this hard. It has zero give. Zero. And I'm a 180 pound man. 2. The place is crawling with yellow jackets (annoying wasps that love meat). Every outdoor meal you have hear will be a wincing, shooing, escaping and constantly disrupted. These little guys are relentless. 3. Dinner is impeccable. All other meals are mediocre. 4. The Internet is requires you to log-in every hour and type in four lines of data every time. It's annoying. 5. This is not a place for romantic couples. It's a family friendly spot full of kids in masks and flippers doing cannon balls in the pool. 6. The concierge has no idea what he's doing. He sent us to destinations that were closed twice. I hope this helps. Enjoy.
