The most exciting new MICHELIN Guide hotels for November 2021

"These days, the greatest luxury to be had in the south of France is a little privacy. The most sought-after experience is that of being a guest in a private home — which explains the appeal of a place like Le Mas de Pierre." - Le Guide MICHELIN

Le Mas de Pierre

"Oh, the Riviera, which sows such dreamy expectations and then too often rewards them with traffic jams and crowds. But wait. Just when you were ready to write off this Gallic paradise on the Med, in reality one of the most densely urbanized places in the whole world, someone opens a charming little hotel like Le Mas de Pierre, just outside of terrifyingly popular St-Paul-de-Vence. Sitting by the pool at this intimate, low-key place where 48 rooms are divided between seven different mas, or stone buildings designed to look like traditional Provençale farmhouses, it’s still possible—amazingly enough--to enjoy a distant horizon of unbuilt countryside. Though they’re several swell-known hotels in St-Paul-de-Vence itself, the town is so fraught that it’s much better idea to pitch tent at Le Mas and day-trip in the region. Rooms are attractively done in white limed traditional Provençale furniture, pretty chintzes and southern French color schemes of melon, yellow, and lavender with waxed parquet floors and over-sized plasma televisions hidden away in armoires. Baths are marble faced, well-lit and come with piles of fluffy towels, good lighting and Etro toiletries. A well-equipped fitness area includes a sauna, hamman and spa-treatment rooms. The real luxury here, however, is the peace and quiet—the only noise you hear on a summer night are crickets—and the fact that every room has a terrace or balcony. The only missed beat is a pricey restaurant with fancy food, when what you really want in this setting are great salads, grills, pasta and Provençale classics."

We had amazing experience staying 2 weeks at Domaine du MAs di Pierre.|From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and professional.|My husband and I visited South of France on many different occasions. This hotel exudes more elegance and class than other 5 star resorts in the area, such as Carlton or Martinez .|Location is absolutely perfect for being so close to multiple towns worth visiting, but you come back to relax in the oasis of class and superb service.|There are multiple pools and area of relaxation surrounded by the Provence landscape. The new Spa with its amenities is absolutely amazing and I had 3 massage.|Breakfast should be mentioned because of quality of local products and presentation.|We had a pleasure to meet GM Audrey Jorge and I understand why this place is so incredible. She supervises and oversees every aspect of of the operation and make sure that all guests are very happy. Every member of the stuff, the valets, reception, Spa, housekeeping, restaurants are very well trained. She was|not only present but incredibly warm and welcoming , making us feel like valued Guest rather than visitors. She helped us with local recommendations and simply was checking on us to make sure we were comfortable.|Overall , we rate this property 10 out of 10.

When you approach this place, it looks grand and well kept. |Arrived at 2:30pm after a long journey from Bangkok, was told to wait till 4pm as “that’s the time the room is available for check in” rather than trying to give us a better understanding of the progress of the room. We booked 5 nights for a Junior suite room and was allocated to a nice big room on the ground floor, near the Lagoon and the spa. Room looks modern as it was recently refurbished. Unfortunately the power point is poor. Bedroom only 1 side has a USB charging. This refurbished room also has a weird layout. 1 toilet but 2 rooms that has a basin and shower area. The 2 large basin and bathtub in the bedroom could be easily transform to a single basin with a toilet. Who thought of waking up in the middle of night to wash your hands or taking a bath? |Room has lots of cupboard space which is much appreciated. Their living area sleeping sofa is hard to sit as when you’re watching TV or read, you’ll find yourself sliding down slowly. Fridge is small but effective enough to cool a bottle of wine and put some small items if you need. Housekeeping has been punctual and fast however 5 days stay here our floor was never vacuum/mop. ||This hotel has 3 pools. 1 Lagoon which is like a beach pool with sand underneath filled with kids and adults in their honeymoon lurking around. There are 2 pools which are better for swimming in laps and they can do better by opening the pool to start at 7am in the summer as it is humid and hot when sun is up at 6:30am. I enjoyed their spa which has lovely 20m indoor pool though you can’t really swim in it but is great to walk around it with the current switched on. The sauna is nice, steam room can be hotter. Gym opens at 6:30am. Spacious gym with 2 treadmills. Most of the machines are up to date. However they can do better with more leg machines rather than those fancy ones in each room which no one knows how to use.|Breakfast was disappointing as I was expecting better selection and quality. They do make nice omelette and crepes on demand but the display of buffet is rather poor. Fruits selection is cheap just have lots of pastries and sweets.||This is not a convenient property as we have to call Uber in and out and often Uber is hard to get in the early morning where we want to start hiking before it gets too hot. For such a large property, I’m surprised lunch is only served either in Bistro or in the bar. Bistro area has no air-conditioned and it was so hot it was impossible to enjoy a nice lunch. While if you choose to sit in the bar which has no ambience, only serve Pizza or Burger. Wine by the glass selection is poor. They really can do better with the quality selection of wine by the glass. ||All the staff are nice and friendly. Special shout out to Matthieu who seems to be the waiter who is everywhere - Bistro and Bartender in the bar at the same time. I feel he’s the most proactive and efficient staff in this entire compound. He goes to the extra mile to make sure we can order lunch in the Bar and help and teach me to open the irritating 3 point turning gate to the swimming pool.

To start off, the hotel is stunning. The property is gorgeous, the pools were great, and the staff was friendly. However, the room that we were put in just didn’t match the quality that we were expecting at a Relais & Chateux. First of all, there was a clump of hair in the middle of the room upon arrival that stayed there for the duration of our stay. The shower had mold and the shampoo/conditioner were near empty and difficult to get out. It was so hot out that we had the a/c on in our room that kept getting turned off by staff. One of the most annoying things was that you could hear every sound magnified by 100. People opening doors, slamming doors, and furniture was being moved above us all at 7 am and on. It just felt like the room quality did not match the quality of the hotel, and did not feel 5 star. It did appear that some rooms were newer- hopefully they’ll work on improving the older rooms soon. One more suggestion would be having pool service- it would’ve been nice to order drinks and food poolside.

Beautiful property with incredible grounds. The spa facility is exceptional with many different sauna/hammam options. I love the location of this property. It is close to Nice and close enough to Cannes. It is a wonderful respite after being in one of the more bustling towns. I will be back for sure!

My wife and I stayed 3 nights at Le Domaine du Mas de Pierre. I am Hilton Honors and I booked through Amex and was not offered the complimentary breakfast. My Bad! Beautiful Grounds like a park! We enjoyed a room serviced breakfast on our terrace that was ample and tasty. The Valet was quick and the Reception was helpful. Unfortunatly they didn't have our reservation at dinner, despite making and confirming with Concierge and my wife's risotto was tasteless. Housekeeping missed cleaning our room on our last night. Nice property but needs some improvement.

A truly beautiful hotel. Staff is friendly. Black out shutters/curtains are perfect. My only complaint is that the room was very warm at night and that makes it difficult for me to sleep. Please allow the air to go to 18 degrees at night. We are paying a lot so please include air costs in price. I would pay more for air conditioning that works. I also heard the people above me at 6 am but this could happen anywhere. Overall lovely. (Also the entire outside smells of coffee which makes no sense with lavender, rosemary, etc.

Refused to be flexible with cancellation. They chose their policy over a potential lifelong customer. I am a French citizen and we come to the Cote D’Azur every year. Unfortunately will not be a customer of this hotel ever again and will choose to stay elsewhere that is more customer service oriented. This also goes without saying that other hotels in the area are much more of an experience like the Chateau St Martin and there is a reason people continue to stay there time and time again, it is not even a comparison.

This is not a 5 star hotel due to the lack of attention to detail and lack of an appropriate level of service for the price point. Service is very slow. Dinner at Provenza was not very good and service was slow and orders missing. Too expensive for this type of service. They seem understaffed for being fully booked. Lack of details: no towels at pool in morning (i guess you have to lug them to breakfast then pool), ring of mold around lagoon pool, staff don’t know anything about resort (bar staff couldn’t call reception to see if our room was ready). Easy fixes so not sure why they don’t do it.

Yelp
Nice grounds, very poor service, and very expensive. Bottom line, what hotel would ever turn off their air conditioning for all rooms in entire hotel when the room temperatures are 28 degrees C? Le Mas de Pierre does, and even when you make sure they are aware they do nothing about it. Imagine trying sleep in a room at is that hot all night, ok, it got down to 24 degrees C if we keep our doors open only the have bugs and mosquitos buzzing around. I am sorry, but this is unacceptable! Add on top of that, every time we called from our room to bring the car around it was never there. Once we arrived at the lobby, had to ask a where from one the three times.....service? none. Sit at bar, no one there? Try and have morning coffee and some service, no one there.....service yourself and then get charged 8 Euro for coffee. Again, beautiful grounds, but this was also the case for two other couples that we knew there. Stay anywhere else, Welcome Hotel, Belles Rives, Du cap Eden Roc, where ever, but not Le Mas de Pierre!

Yelp
This place is beautiful and the surroundings are gorgeous. The staff is kind, professional and thoughtful. Here are some some considerations in that would help the hotel improve the guest experience or be used as a means of setting expectations for anyone coming here expecting a 5 star experience. 1. The mattress is the hardest bed I've ever slept on. I didn't even know a mattresses came this hard. It has zero give. Zero. And I'm a 180 pound man. 2. The place is crawling with yellow jackets (annoying wasps that love meat). Every outdoor meal you have hear will be a wincing, shooing, escaping and constantly disrupted. These little guys are relentless. 3. Dinner is impeccable. All other meals are mediocre. 4. The Internet is requires you to log-in every hour and type in four lines of data every time. It's annoying. 5. This is not a place for romantic couples. It's a family friendly spot full of kids in masks and flippers doing cannon balls in the pool. 6. The concierge has no idea what he's doing. He sent us to destinations that were closed twice. I hope this helps. Enjoy.
