Yelp
A classy wine lounge created by the well known maker of Oregon Pinot Noir (and other varietals and blends) placed nicely in the middle of downtown Bend. This is their third location (the first two being Portland and Lake Oswego) so they've debugged the formula.
The vibe is upscale, urban. The décor is modern. There's a glass pane in the floor to see the cellar below. There a members' lounge upstairs for members of their wine club. There is a very nice bar and both classical tables in one area along with more informal lounge-like seating in back. Upstairs, in the members' lounge, there are two lounge (low) seating areas and a handful of mid-top tables (not quite high-tops but not regular tables either). The have member lockers upstairs for rent, though since it only opened recently most of them don't appear rented out yet.
I have to admit that before I went I wasn't in love with the menu. It's narrow and more nosh-y than eat-y and I like to eat. They do a few dishes (steak, salmon, ragout, burger) that are meals, but most are more shared noshies -- e.g., oysters, cheese plate, charcuterie plate, popcorn chicken.
However, once I actually went there, I got it. The menu goes really, really well with having a few glasses of wine so if you view this as "lunch place" or "dinner place" you might be disappointed. If you view as a "wine bar with food," then you'll be happy. Very happy, in fact, as the food was excellent. We had the oysters (kumamotos with a nice mignonette), the cheese plate (very good), the charcuterie plate (excellent), and the popcorn shrimp (incredibly good). OK, we were hungry. All of it was outstanding.
Wine-wise we had some of their sparkling wine (shockingly good for a champagne snob like me) and a glass or two of Pinot we let the waiter pick for us (which was also very good). We also snuck in a sip of Chassagne Montrachet which was really good as well.
The service was outstanding, our server Kevin was great. The food was high quality. The vibe awesome. Yes, it's a little pricey, but it was well worth it.
