I guess it's been a few years since I've done wine tasting at a place in which I was not a member-- the pours were tiny. My friend and I both did the Estate Flight. We had walked by and were drawn in by the beautiful decor. It's a very classy, beautiful space for sure. Feels like we primarily paid a premium for that. It doesn't help that I've never preferred Chardonnay or Pinot Noir. Glad I did a tasting rather than got the wine by the glass-- it was pretty expensive per glass. The wines were fine but I didn't love any of them. We got the bread to snack on during the tasting and I thought the bread and butter were really good.
They had live music and though the musicians were very good, it was very loud as a result in the space. The musicians were also situated right in the middle, bisecting the space and making it so that you have to awkwardly walk close to and in front of the musicians to get from one end of the lounge to the other. We were struck as soon as we got in by how loud it was with the music such that it's basically impossible to hold a conversation unless you sit as far away as possible. When the musicians took a break, they played recorded music which was still pretty loud. I guess I expected a quieter atmosphere which would be more conducive for chatting for a wine lounge.
The service was nice and I didn't really have an issue until the end. We had gotten sparkling water which was bottled. There wasn't any indication that the sparkling water was not complementary, though I recognize that's not always explained and we could have asked. However, they brought a second bottle without our asking so that was kinda annoying since we were given something that we hadn't ordered. When the server was closing us out, I told her that I was sending back the second bottle of sparkling water as it wasn't opened. She seemed to indicate that she heard me, and processed my payment on an ipad. I'm certain she didn't remove the second bottle from the check though I couldn't see that for sure because of the payment popup window obscuring part of the itemized check. But unless they are charging $9 per bottle of San Pelligrino, which would be an outrage in itself, I think we were charged for the second unasked-for bottle.
