On a rare day off (12/23/2021) my favorite sister and I visited the new location of DS which is where the Irish restaurant was and then, I believe a meat and three. I'm delighted DS scored this larger location overlooking Big Spring Park with a nice patio space and a lovely view!
And it's been a while, ya'll. This was only my second visit to DS and the last time I went was, I think, 2019. This December has been incredibly warm and we opted to eat outside. The staff, as before, are incredible - so friendly, knowledgeable and helpful! Very professional and attentive.
I was craving iced tea and yes, the have it, but it is the bottled variety, the name escapes me because I never buy bottled tea. Anyway, I said, "Yuck" out loud in front of our server. #Tacky, I know - I couldn't help it. I went with a cup of joe (sister had water) which was really good and we had oysters and sister had a salad. Then I had the *best* happy hour white wine, for just $6 before we departed to visit Mom for an early Christmas.
Sadly, the oysters disappointed us. They were small, which is fine - no issue there. We opted to get the sauces on the side, one was spicy hot, and the other was like a homemade tarter sauce, very mayo heavy. The oysters were cornmeal encrusted and served with, I believe, cornmeal encrusted red peppers. I asked for lemon wedges on the side because I love *just* fresh squeezed lemon on oysters and neither of the sauces appealed to my sister or me. The cornmeal breading was excessive, it overwhelmed the small oysters and was completely devoid of flavor. There wasn't even salt and pepper in the cornmeal breading.
I am 100% certain if you are a sauce person, you would enjoy the oysters because the sauces, although not to my personal liking, were flavorful. I couldn't finish my oyster plate, my sister "soldiered through" her oyster plate and neither one of us complained, or asked for a different dish - it just didn't feel right to complain at Christmas time, although I'm sure DS would have happily replaced the dish with something else, had we brought it to their attention.
Sister's salad was good, it was a radish and greens based salad with, I think, pecans.
The new space is so nice, restrooms clean, staff efficient and friendly as always, wine selection appeared to be really vast although I didn't shop for wine, and I told sister we will come back and try other dishes in the future.
Thanks Domain South!
