Domenico's Italian Deli

I love sandwiches! Great meat, fresh breads , variety of drinks ….. and of course something for the sweet tooth😍 Finding a replacement for Genova’s of Oakland has been a decade plus challenge for me … until I discovered Domenico’s in Alameda! I pay attention to the staff’s unspoken language and if the owner is present I watch them too! Well I always say staff reflects leadership… pleased to learn both are great people. ‼️Mrs Domenico and son really set the standard. I’m terrible with names( he told me his and his mother’s name) so I don’t want to mention but if you go there you’ll know immediately who I’m speaking about . ‼️ I’m all about legacy and family tradition, this is a third generation establishment which holds the same love & respect to the craft and people. It’s in the service. Thank you for serving great quality food!

Delicious sandwich! Everything was super fresh and the staff is great! Will definitely be back here next time I'm in Alameda.

Delicious sandwiches with quality ingredients, prepared efficiently by friendly staff. Really enjoyed the balance of flavor and texture in my toasted pastrami sandwich (with marbled rye, Swiss cheese, all toppings). The pastrami was tender and well seasoned, and not too salty. We also tried the Italian beef on a French roll. Very tasty, and the roll was perfect for soaking up the au jus.

Sandwich was delicious, when I said, I asked for the bread to be as thin soon as possible, they did just that and I really appreciated it and the best I have had! Also GREAT CANNOLIS! They pipe them fresh, just as they should be - so good!

The reason I am making this review so bad is because of the poor hygiene noted at this deli. I was there for a while and observed, most of the employees were observed using gloves for multi purpose use, like touching surfaces then touching food. Which is totally gross and not within health codes. One in particular is the lady at the front, older lady who takes orders, she had the same set of gloves which she wrote orders with, then touched her personal purse like digging in there and organizing, then with the same gloves answered phones and then went to make some sort of side for an order. They are in the food industry so therefore ensuring food isn’t contaminated and handled with clean hands is their responsibility. I should have said something there but honestly when the majority of the staff is doing the same practice it seems like they need retraining. I won’t go back here again for the simple fact that it’s not my responsibility to tell the people that work there to use CLEAN HANDS. Everyone is nice, and hopefully they take this review seriously because peoples health shouldn’t be put at risk.

This deli has been in my radar for some time, so when I had a craving for a sandwich I knew I had to take a drive over to Alameda. This is a very cool deli with great customer service. I ordered the Cajun turkey on a French roll and it was simple yet extremely delicious. I really wanted to order a slice of their Tiramisu but the line has got too long, so now I have another reason to return very soon!

We stopped in on our way from the OAK airport to Anderson Valley. We already had a long travel day and I needed a classic deli sandwich on Dutch crunch. Service was fast and friendly! The Italian combo and turkey subs were delicious. The Dutch crunch bread was not the best I’ve had, but everything was fresh and the dine in area was clean.

When driving up the street you can easily pass by this spot and you will b sad that ya did. Another one of those mom and pop hole in the walls that we love to make a home out of. Kind greeting and fast service, you can feel the family vibe as soon as you enter the door. I got the crab salad on a soft roll with everything except pepperoncinis. The crab salad taste fresh and I like the slight crunch from the celery. The only thing I will do different and it was my fault not to have asked that the sandwich be heated. Wasn’t needed just a preference of mine. Over all Domenicos is a hidden gem that you must visit in alameda.

They said this spot is the best so I shall try it I ordered Italian Roast Beef Sandwich

Stopped in while Lily is getting groomed. Got the warm Meatloaf Sandwhich on sour dough roll with the works. It was excellent I then ordered the Tiramisu, really good I sat down on the community table and chatted with other folks. Definitely coming back

Turkey and Cranberry on a hard sourdough roll. Perfection. There are not many classic delicatessens left especially in the East Bay. Domenicos Italian Deli is a place you can count on to get a well made sandwich with fresh - high quality ingredients at a reasonable price. Matt says if you find yourself on Webster street on a family outing on the weekend or just looking for a good lunch place during the work week, check out Domenicos Italian Deli You'll be glad you did.

The service is great. My lamb sandwich was delicious. It came in two parts because they didn't have any more rolls, but I was very surprised.. it was worth the price. I also enjoyed the macaroni salad. I'll try the potato salad or the orzo next time. I'll try my go to pastrami next time also, hopefully it'll be just as good as the lamb. I'll give this shop a go

My favorite Bay deli---well, one of them. Mom is always behind the counter and the guys always pack up a loaded and perfectly layered Italian sub. My cousins lived in Alameda 4 years ago and were back for a visit recently, and Mom even remembered them! Good selection of chips and cold drinks and a throwback east coast style Italian deli feel inside. Might look like a hole-in-the-wall kinda spot outside but let the smell of warm bread entice you inside- you won't regret it!

After all these years passing by this deli spot on Webster I finally got a chance to have lunch here and OMG it long overdue ! Why did I not stop and try them years ago. Here is why. Each time I am in Alameda I was not hungry but thanks to my friend Sal for buying me lunch at ariund 11:30ish am and that was the best treat from Sal and what great food experience. The staff is super friendly down to earth treated us like family. The place is clean and plenty of tables and chairs to enjoy your meal at the front and at the back so just relax and enjoy the food. Old school style deli and walking inside is like a time capsule. Felt back in time when you were greeted properly and everything was spot on. I ordered the hot pastrami on a Dutch crunch and it was heavenly and yes, proper portions. Prices are on par and special thanks to James for taking care of us. What a great deli and I highly recommend you try it. Fresh made offerings and deserts and they make food the old fashion way. They have the biggest chip bag display i have ever seen with healthy and regular offerings wall to wall etc. Plenty of street parking and places to park close by and the area is safe. Dropped by again and OMG good :)

I'm not in Alameda often, but had lunch here with a friend a few months ago. The ambiance was cool. Traditional deli vibe. The people were nice. I decided to try the warm lamb sandwich, because I love lamb and rarely see it as a sandwich choice. Let me tell you, this sandwich did not disappoint. This was one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I'm not exaggerating lol. I will definitely return when I'm in the area. Now that I think about it, maybe I'll make a special trip.

Seriously old school deli. Lady behind the counter told me they had been there for over 40 years. Sounds like a long time, which is a great run for any business, but that was just the 80s and I totally remember the 80s like it was yesterday. Lol Grrrrrr! How old school are they: Signage out front will tell ya. Looks like something you'd see on a sidewalk in North Beach or Little Italy in NY. 80s Wooden Paneling inside, crazy old school. When taking my order they wrote it down on a piece of scratch paper. With pen and old fashion penmanship. Wouldn't be able to get someone 23 years or younger to do that. It's a waning skill. Old fashion credit card terminal that doesn't automatically ask you to tip 15, 18, 20%. It actually doesn't even have a tip function, so bring a little cash if you can. Only a few tables inside for being a larger space for a sandwich shop. Pretty sure most take away. Huge sandwich board. They can make any sandwich warm if you prefer that, they'll toast the bread and warm the meats/cheese. 2 sizes for sandwiches a regular (6 inches or so) go for around $12ish and a larger one for a few bucks more. I found the price to be very fair for the size and quality of sandwiches. Italian Combo (3.5*) Salami, Mortadella, Provolone, produce with oil and vinegar. Solid thick cold cut sandwich. Serious layer of cured italian meats, almost too much for the amount of produce they put. Felt a bit unbalanced to me, made it too meat forward. And the meats are all together so you really couldn't make anything out. Next time I'll just go with a 1 meat sandwich. I like when these sandwiches have an equal balance of cured meat and crunchy produce doused in simple dressing. Roast Lamb Sandwich (4.5*) How often can one run into a warm lamb sandwich? When I saw this I had to get it. Roasted leg of lamb, seasoned simply, no crazy herbs, maybe just salt and pepper with a touch of garlic. Shaved super thin which makes it very tender, served warm with melted pepper jack, crazy good. Very lamb-y too, like you know you are eating lamb, straight up Easter Sunday in a sandwich. A little produce except this was much more in balance because the meat wasn't as heavy as the cold cut sandwich. I'm gonna try their Italian Beef Sandwich next with au jus and giardinere pickled veggies. Can't wait! Good fit for me as I'm seriously old school myself. And now that I'm kinda dialed in on how to order here, I can be somewhat of a regular. Yasssss.

I've been here around 10 times in the last 15 years and everytime I got the hot corned beef on light rye. Every time The sandwich was packed with meat and juicy. The last 2 times this year were so skimpy and the meat was dry. It's seemed more like cheap lunch meat from the grocery store. I wonder did they change ownership or suppliers because it was not the same. Sadly I'm looking for a new corned beef fix.

One of the best sandwiches I've ever had. I can't wait to go back. The horseradish cheddar cheese was incredible 10/10 recommend giving it a try. Very friendly staff, lots of side & drink options. Can't wait to go back to try some of the other items.

Domenico's is a perfect reflection of Alameda: stuck in time, for better and for worse. The sandwich selection is impressive, and when they have the Chicago-style Italian beef it is genuinely delicious. But a lot about the overall experience is frustrating. If you go anywhere near lunch, expect 10+ people in front of you, (some ordering multiple sandwiches) and an ordering process that is maddeningly slow. The woman behind the counter is sweet but can err on the side of listing every single option for every single customer. And the sandwich artists are in no rush. Result: you'll easily wait 30 minutes or more for the simplest sandwich. Calling ahead to skip the line? Half the time they don't pick up. And when they do, they can sound quite irritated. And the younger generation working the counter often comes off gruff and impatient, like you're inconveniencing them just by ordering. The sandwiches are solid, but this place badly needs a service rethink. Domenico's has quite a history, but that only gets you so far when the experience feels this outdated.

The best sandwich place in the Bay Area. Great food, great people... just the best. I wish I could just eat here for lunch everyday.

The server was very nice and gave us plenty of time to order, however, after we ordered we had to wait a while in a surprisingly hot restaurant. Then our food came. It was very good and you can't get the roasted lamb anywhere else in alemeda! Overall, the ambience felt very classic, the food was delicious, and the server was very nice.

Great sandwich! I ordered the avocado and cheese sandwich with Dijon mustard Hatchet chili cheddar cheese and jalapenos on rye. It was delicious. Ordering was easy; there is seating in the front and back of the Deli counter; orders or Taken and sent off to the Sandwich Artist; I paid 19 bucks for my sandwich and a large bag of chips. In comparison to some of the more recent lunch dates I've had, this was a bargain, filling, and worth every dime.

There is craft, skill, and love in a great sandwich, and Domenico's makes a great sandwich. From deli basics to house specials like an Italian beef au jus, this is an institution in Alameda for good reason.

My favorite go-to, family-owned sandwich shop. Prices are very reasonable and anytime I head to Alameda or the beach, I love to order a few sandwiches to-go. Domenico's offers friendly service and a family feel inside - it's a great spot to get your sandwich fix, especially if you love Dutch crunch! You cannot order online; in person or phone orders only, but it can be hard to get someone on the line during busy hours.

Decent sandwiches...too small in my opinion. Unfortunately one and done here ...Service is good..you can call ahead.

I have enjoyed Domenicos Italian Deli for years, and I can't believe I haven't done a review yet! The sandwiches are always 10/10, my friends and I love it! My usual is the In House Oven Baked Turkey sandwich, but I've tried almost half their menu and loved all of it. I highly recommend the In House Oven Baked Turkey Sandwich, Louisiana Hot Link, In House Baked Chicken Breast, Italian Roast Beef (was told this is on Friday/Saturdays), and Roast Beef. The next sandwich I'd want to try is the In House Roast Lamb. I do not live in the Alameda so I would usually have to call in to order when I'm almost off work. The are always so sweet and patient with you. It is a small place, and there is a couple of tables if you'd like to eat there. Bomb dot com sandwiches and amazing workers/service, I give a 10/10! Definitely top by and support this business, you will not regret :).

Best sandwich shop on the Island! I usually get the cold pastrami sandwich on Dutch crunch with pepper jack and everything on it except tomatoes. It is THE BOMB.COM every single time. It is VERY busy during lunch time so I suggest calling in your order at least 20-30 minutes beforehand. Once you get there, you just head straight to the register and they will notice you and attend to you when they can. I'm usually in and out in under 5 minutes if I do this during the lunch rush. Other times, I'm in and out in under a minute. I've also had their different potato salads and they are GOOOOOD. Can't wait to go on Monday during my lunch and get my order :)

Amazing! We were greeted by lovely staff that helped us picked out the perfect sandwiches. The location is quaint and very homey. We arrived after the lunch rush. The staff were very patient with us as we couldn't decide with so many yummy options. I ordered the Italian combo on light sourdough. The bread was fresh and perfect to hold such a hearty blend of Italian meats. My partner ordered the roasted lamb on Dutch crunch with pepper jack. He didn't want to share because it was so good. The portions were super filling. We each ordered the regular size without any sides. Can't wait to come back!

The food here is incredible. The people working are attentive and recommend fantastic choices! I love the look of the long Italian deli counter. Grabbed an Italian beef with horseradish cheddar and hit the beach just a few blocks way. A top pick in the east bay!

All I can say is YES! The turkey sandwiches with cranberry sauce I purchased were probably the best I have ever had. No exaggeration. My family and I were impresses with the first bite to the last. Straight up legitimate home style deli. Forget all franchise sandwich shops. Look forward to going back. Pastrami sandwich HERE I COME!!!

They are a great family owned business and you can tell the love, heart, and soul put into their place with how well they work together especially during their crazy busy lunch hours; lines out the sidewalk! The ambiance is very New York Italian deli type of vibes. They have a huge arrangement of individual chip brand choices along the wall. Two standup drink coolers full of an assortment of juices, teas, sodas, waters. They also serve pirozshkis, meat pies, italian sodas, and this yummy pesto pasta! This time my boyfriend and I were studying/working at Peet's down the street and our tummies were grumbling. I've been wanting him to try out their Hot Lamb Sub based on how popular the photos and reviews of this item was on Yelp. Surprisingly he said it was "okay," coming from a guy that expects lamb to be more gamey. If you're looking for smooth thin, gyro, sliced pastrami type lamb sub, THIS IS IT! My traditional meatball sub on Dutch crunch is always my go to and I give it a 10/10. The flavors are there with the melty provolone, red onions, and freshly seasoned meat flavors all coming through with the sauce which isn't too acidic for me (having acid reflux). Bread is also super fresh which I love that it's freshly cut and toasted. I will continue to visit Domenico's and recommend to anyone that will listen as the best sandwich spot in town!

It's just okay... I've had better deli sandwiches at Safeway and raleys. Cute little spot to stop if your hungry but nothing to rave about. 11$ a sandwich.

After moving to the Bay Area from NYC and hearing everyone refer to San Francisco as a sandwich city I finally found a place that helps that statement make sense (Other than Rhea's in the mission. I love you). Although, it's not quite in San Francisco. It's across a bridge. Like most good food in the Bay Area. We opted for one cold cut and one warm sandwich and both were layered, sauced and seasoned with only the attention and care that someone who loves sandwiches could give to them. There was no lack of meat on either sandwich and the price point was just right for lunch unlike some other sandwich shops in the bay area (I'm looking at you Deliboard!) Do yourself a favor and head to Alameda and try one of these sandwiches.

Had an excellent Chicago style Italian beef sandwich here last month! Love the authentic vibes of this deli. Great chips and drink options as well. Would definitely return! Service is good and there is decent amount of seating indoors.

Really good price for what it is. Very fresh and tastes good. I opted for the Cajun Turkey on Dutch bread with everything in it. It's been a while that I came to the place and it's as usual as before. Many people coming in and out, many of them regulars, some are there just to pick up, waiting, etc. it really had a home vibe and many people in the kitchen; no shortage. And what amazes me is that they treat the guests well despite being busy. I was greeted and was asked if I had any questions and whatnot. One orders at the cash register and pretty much just know what you want on protein and bread veggies come in a variety of colours. We are asked our name and we are referred by our name which add boldness to the business, I enjoy. Was given my order and was asked if cutlery and napkins are needed. One of the bay sandwiches I've had. Also one of Alameda's best. All the ingredients tasted with quality and out of the box and knife. The pesto salad was very good too, as well as their salads look promising. I'll come back with a friend or two. AC Transit buses 20, 51A, O, 78 pass or a block or 2 walk.

Encountered a few locals who told me to check the place out and I was not disappointed. The sandwich was great and the service was fairly quick despite it being the lunch hour rush.

Second time coming here they were out of rolls so I got two sandwich's on sliced bread. Last time I came I got turkey on dutch crunch I thought it was pretty good. My friend had no problem with the pastrami sandwich just said it was a little small for the price. Im just really disappointed about the BLT I got, It tasted fine like any average BLT but it was so tiny and the bread was soggy. For $13 I could have gotten a something else more filling. Not sure why it was more expensive than the turkey sandwich I had gotten last time but was way smaller and less ingredients... :(

Domenico's Italian Deli is my go-to spot for a solid Italian combo. Family-owned and just that old-school deli vibe I appreciate. My regular order is the Italian combo on Dutch crunch, everything on it, no mayo--it hits the spot every time. Ann's the best; she always takes care of my order and keeps it friendly. Just call ahead, and they'll have it ready at the front when you get there. Glad we have a spot like this close by that I can count on for a legit sandwich.

Holy cow. This place is pretty good. I was surprised because I just happen to walk by while taking my cat to the vet next door. I ordered the Italian sandwich and meatball and it was very tasty. There was a short line but I figured because it was lunch time. They made the food pretty quickly though and the sandwich was stuffed. It's like the perfect little sandwich and would be great for a road trip or picnic!

The sandwiches remind me of back east, which is always a good thing but really amazing how they pay attention to detail. I ordered my sandwich and came a little late and they were closed, but they still have my sandwich ready fresh ready to go. 6 stars if I could.
