"A beautifully restored 17th-century palazzo in a prime location at the head of Valletta’s main drag of Republic Street, Domus Zamittello is the opulent luxury hotel this famous Baroque city demands. The public spaces are imposingly elegant, all lovingly rebuilt to the original specifications, while the rooms balance the old-world grandeur with smart 21st-century comforts." - Mitchell Friedman

"Why we love it: A beautifully restored 17th-century palazzo offering luxurious rooms and attentive service The Highlights: - A gourmet breakfast spread served daily in the grand dining room - A third-floor terrace with a bird’s-eye view of the historic opera house next door - Weekly happy hour with the general manager, complete with canapés and drinks The Review: A five-year-long renovation turned this 17th-century palazzo into an elegant, 21-room hotel, located on the central Republic Street next to the former Royal Opera House. The hotel’s well-preserved architecture is especially apparent in the beautiful lobby and dining room, where a breakfast of eggs, cheese, meat, fruit, and freshly baked croissants is served each morning (guests often report smelling the delicious spread upon waking). Elsewhere in the hotel, jewel-toned furniture, plush carpets, gilded frames, and Venetian chandeliers accent historic details, lending the property a luxurious feel. Up on the third floor, a terrace offers ample seating and expansive city views. Guests can choose from four room types—including duplex suites with two bathrooms and separate sitting areas—each outfitted with embroidered linens, heated floors, marble bathrooms, and classic furniture in muted tones. Should they need help during their stay, they can also look forward to an extremely friendly staff, who will greet them with a handwritten welcome note and an invitation to a weekly happy hour with the hotel’s general manager."
First time in Malta, the staff made us feel right at home from the start. The hotel is elegant, beautifully decorated and palatial (used to be a palace, go figure). Can't say enough good things about Sandra who greeted us upon arrival and was a huge help throughout our 4-night stay, giving us good advice on sights to see and good restaurants in Valletta and ending our visit with making sure we got a taxi to the airport most efficiently. Moul, the hotel manager, also went out of his way to ensure we were well-informed about things to do and how to get to Mdina, Rabat and Gozo, even encouraging us to text him directly if we had any questions. All the staff we met were so nice and helpful, we could tell they were well-trained and seemed happy to be working there. |Our room was lovely, the bathroom was great, had everything we needed. We were provided a complimentary bottle of wine upon arrival and a surprise complementary fruit plate in the middle of our stay. Chocolates were yummy with turn-down service each night, breakfast was included and very, very good. Great selections, fresh ingredients. |The hotel's location is in the center of Valletta and very convenient to everything we wanted to do in this very walkable, beautiful, friendly and clean city. Excellent trip! Would not think of staying anywhere but Domus Zamittello on future trips to Malta.

I was nervous about the possibility of this being a noisy location. Turned out to be so quiet inside, it's hard to believe it's right on the main street. This refurbished palazzo is so calming, it's a joy every time to pass through the doorway, seemingly a transition between the 16th and 21st centuries. We had a premium room and appreciated the extra space, as we spent the hottest part of the day chilling out. Almost no noise from other rooms, no dodgy plumbing, effective air-conditioning, comfortable (firm) bed.|Breakfast was a treat. No unseemly buffet, proper table service. The full English lacked proper sausage and bacon (and beans really) but was OK. Better to go for the menimen. Catered well for S; though she habitually supplied her own cereal, the GF bread, fresh fruit and ancillaries were appreciated.|Everyone is super-friendly, from front-desk to turn-down. Unimprovable.

Excellent blend of ancient and modern, and a true gem of calm in vibrant Valletta. This former palazzo has been sympathetically updated by the owner to retain original features, but with all the comfort and style you need in a top rated boutique hotel.||But it’s the staff that really set it apart from the ordinary. My wife, daughter and I felt relaxed and comfortable throughout our five days stay. Nothing was too much trouble, and a ‘can do’ culture was noticeably at all times. From the General Manager Moul, L’Ancora Restaurant Manager Justin and staff Maria, Sandra and many more, we were well looked after.||Our room, a duplex premium suite on the second floor with two bathrooms, was excellent with every amenity. The third floor terrace, with views across the city, was our favourite evening spot for a pre-dinner drink and peaceful wind down from the busy day.||This was a great way for us to enjoy our first trip to Malta

This was our second visit to Malta and Domus Zamittello, the previous being in May 2022. The hotel we learned on arrival was under new management and we could not believe that the hotel was even better that our last visit. The hotel is ideally placed for visiting Valletta, with all the attractions being no more than a fifteen minute walk. We had a Premium room on the fourth floor which was excellent in all aspects. However, the main plus for us was the staff who were so attentive, especially Moul the General Manager. His customer service was exemplary along with Maria and Sandra. Nothing was too much trouble from advising on what to see, where to go, recommending and booking restaurants, ordering taxis and checking in on BA! If you are considering visiting Valletta I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel. You will not be disappointed.

What a fantastic choice for us in Valletta. This is an excellent first class hotel in Valletta, close to everything. You can easily walk everywhere in the city. The room was spacious and quiet. It is on Valletta's main pedestrian street, but it is still very quiet. The service was excellent and friendly and the breakfast was ample. We stayed 6 nights here in May 2025 and really enjoyed the hotel immensely. We can recommend this hotel to anyone coming to Valletta.

Beautiful hotel, exceptionally well located with a wonderful staff, led by the manager, Maria. The restaurant L’Ancora was also excellent. We had the sea bream baked in salt. Comfortable, attentive luxury. Coffee and tea in the rooms, the hotel is close to the Archaeological Museum and all the sights, right on Republic Street.

Our experience at Domus Zamittello was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful. All were cheerful and nothing was too much trouble. We ate at the L'Ancora restaurant several times and all meals were of the highest standard. We had a relaxing stay in Domus Zamittello and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in Valletta.
