"La Boca’s Don Carlos is heaven for the indecisive. Since there is no menu, the restaurant’s namesake owner sizes you up and intuits what you need. The idea is to feel like you’re at home, where the whims of whoever’s cooking determine what comes out of the kitchen. Everything is made from scratch, in-house, and reflects what you’d get in a typical Argentine household: pastas, Spanish tortillas, vegetable croquettes, juicy grilled meats. Plates come out in quick succession until you say uncle. Wash them down with a bottle from their impressive wine list; you’ll leave with a full belly and a smile. Closed Sundays and Boca soccer match days. By Travesías"

Tony had a meal with Argentina's most famous chef, Francis Mallmann. They ate empanadas, grilled beef, and blood sausage

Don Carlos isn't just a restaurant; it's an experience that feels like coming home, but with food that elevates "home cooking" to an art form. From the moment you step through the doors, you're enveloped in an atmosphere that is not only outstanding but genuinely familiar. The warmth of the ambiance is immediately striking. It's the kind of place where you can relax, share a laugh, and truly enjoy your company, whether it's family, friends, or a special date. There's an undeniable charm that makes you feel like a cherished guest, rather than just a customer. The decor, while perhaps not ultra-modern, contributes to this cozy, lived-in feel, making it incredibly inviting. And then, there's the food. "Delicious" barely scratches the surface. Every dish at Don Carlos is a testament to quality ingredients and masterful preparation. Whether you're indulging in their perfectly cooked meats, savoring their rich pasta dishes, or exploring their tempting appetizers, each bite is a delight. The flavors are robust, authentic, and clearly crafted with passion. It's the kind of food that satisfies not just your hunger, but your soul. What truly sets Don Carlos apart, however, is the seamless integration of its outstanding food with its incredibly familiar ambient. It’s a place where you can enjoy a truly exceptional meal without any pretense. It’s the perfect spot for a celebratory dinner, a casual weeknight meal, or simply when you’re craving a taste of something truly special in a welcoming setting. In a city with countless dining options, Don Carlos stands out as a true gem. It offers not just a meal, but a memorable experience that nourishes both body and spirit. If you're looking for a restaurant that delivers on both outstanding flavor and a wonderfully familiar, inviting atmosphere, Don Carlos is an absolute must-visit. You'll leave feeling completely satisfied and already planning your next return. Como decimos en Colombia "el hotel mamá" que delicia, como sentirse en casa. Gracias! ❤️

Everyone told us to be carful of being robbed of cell phones or cameras in La Boca; we never thought we’d be robbed by a family run restaurant.. this place is a scam and there is no other way to put it. We were recommend this place by a friend who lived here a long time ago and were already a little skeptical based on its location and proximity to the stadium. But the owners were very welcoming and friendly and because they were so reassuring of taking care of us we settled in. They pushed us to eat and try more and refilled one of glasses without asking; the experience felt homey, casual and sweet. The food and wine were small portions and overall just fine, nothing more. Upon being given the bill it became clear that their structure; no menu, no prices, an overt push to try what they bring out, is exploitative. $120 for two people. We don’t need to say much about the food and wine because it all would have been a fine experience if not for this ridiculous price.. what was served was almost entirely vegetarian bites, which is only being highlighted because cuts of meat may help to explain a slightly higher price point.. We hope that anyone considering going will take all this into account and at the very least be cognizant of price while eating and drinking here. We would love to be writing a glowing review as we very much liked the owner and his family, and would otherwise wish them the best. But they are scamming people, there is no other way to describe their business model. The price wasn’t just expensive, it was gouged knowing there is nothing you can do about it.

Would give them 0 stars if I could. My sibling needed the toilet and they would only let us use their facilities if we ordered, which is understandable however upon sitting down I asked for a menu and the response I got was "no you eat what I give you". I was then told to go somewhere else if I want to look at a menu so I left. Judging by the other comments it looks like I dodged a bullet.

We stumbled upon this place whilst walking through La Boca and were invited in by the lovely owner Carlos, we decided to eat here after learning that Anthony Bourdain has been here before but we stayed because the food was delicious and very home-style. It is family owned- Carlos' wife is the chef and their daughter Gaby is the pastry chef and they change the menu depending on what they get from the market. It was such an authentic and homely experience, I hope we can come back next time we're in Buenos Aires

OMG, the food is extraordinary and they feed you as your mum would. Don Carlos and his wife and daughter are super friendly and you get the feel of a very special guest. There are more than 10 courses of meal that you even don't have an idea what they are as there is a set menu and one surprise comes after the other. Highly recommended to experience a different way of service and a taste of true Argentinean authentic food

We can't recommend Don Carlos' enough, we found out about it from a No Reservations episode. Carlos welcomes folks into his home and delivers a tasting menu of Argentinian delicacies for a reasonable rate. An experience we'll cherish for years to come.

Great local experience! If you're a Parilla first timer like I was ask for a "mix". Don Carlo will oblige. We had loads of different bits from the grill and salad and pasta and bread and veggies and wine, desserts and coffee and the total was around 2000pesos for 2 people. It was a feast! I won't be eating dinner I'm so full. Loved this place.

Google
What a great find. Right next to Boca Juniors stadium, it couldn’t be more part of La Boca. The family were so lovely to talk to and their food is just great. We really felt they loved the food they prepared. There’s a reason this place is an institution. Go and try it.

Yelp
Some of the best food I have ever had in Buenos Aires! Amazing quality, wonderful staff, and very "en familia." I loved it! And the vibe was great as well. Good for families: our daughter was treated so well!

Yelp
On his last visit to Buenos Aires Anthony Bourdain came to eat at Don Carlos with francis mallmann The setup is unique, you show up, tell Don Carlos how hungry you are and then he feeds you whatever he thinks will be good for you (we were hungry). There is a menu but why order from the menu when you can have Don Carlos feed you whatever he feels you might like? This is the best part of this place, let Don Carlos feed you. I couldn't capture all of the dishes as they kept coming one after another, the meat was grilled to perfection, the baker took her time with every item that came from the oven and the charismatic Don Carlos kept us entertained the entire meal. Also our meal was only $38 (included a 2014 bottle of Malbec, approximately 10 dishes plus 3 desserts)

Yelp
Sit down, relax and let Carlito warmly serve you. Course after course of Argentine and La Boca classics. Very enjoyable, memorable and delicious. You will glad you came to Don Carlos in La Boca!

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences of all time for my husband and I. Don Carlo himself was a wonderful host. So welcoming, kept the food coming, checked on what we liked and didn't miss a beat. The food cooked by his wife Marta was amazing. All cooked and seasoned perfectly. The most variety and best steak we had in 4 days Argentina. Everyone in this little restaurant gets something different so saddle up for the ride and just enjoy whatever you get. Our meal included Tuna salad and crostini, caprese with roasted Roma tomatoes, olive assortment, potato tart, house made sausage and chorizo, two different cuts of steak, and two desserts. A peanut vanilla ice cream cake and pear torte. And it was less expensive than any of our other dinners. When we come back to BE, we will definitely go back!!

Yelp
This man is a legend food was great and it was awesome watching him work like a conductor of an orchestra.
