The LA Taco Tuesday Directory

"Don Chuy’s is basically a dive bar with exposed brick walls and sports on the TVs. So if you’re looking for somewhere to drink cheap margaritas and eat tacos while you watch the game, this might be your place. The deal: 99-cent tacos, all day" - amy clark, kat hong

Chuy’s Tacos Dorado Review - Arts District - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"The crunchy tacos at Chuy’s might remind you of a classic Culver City taco stand that rhymes with “Rito’s,” which is probably the point. This semi-hidden walk-up window—located within the literal loading dock of a warehouse—is one of the Arts District’s best affordable lunch options, so don’t be deterred by the lack of signage (or limited patio seating). Around noon you’ll find a line of construction workers and security guards ordering bagfuls of hard-shells stuffed with shredded beef, grated yellow cheese, and pickled onions, plus maybe a chorizo and bean burrito or two. Join them and make sure to ask for extra green salsa." - Garrett Snyder

Google
A fun local restaurant that runs an incredibly cheap Taco Tuesdays of $0.99 cent soft corn tacos all day. They are street tacos, so relatively small but if you order several you'll surely be full. The tacos while a bargain had minimal meat and just raw onion with cilantro, no sauce nor any other toppings. The potato taco was a hard shell at $1.95 which was likely the most interesting of the bunch. There's free freshly fried tortilla chips with fresh salsa, yum! Service was nice. The atmosphere was very casual. Would definitely be interested in going back to try the other dishes at the restaurant.

Don Chuy's is like eating in your living room it's cute and cozy atmosphere to take a chatty lunch mate or a passenger seat rider that's company for your errands for a snack. I ordered the enchiladas combo and the price was fair The taste was averagely fair I guess the chunk of onion . My waiting time was fair over all I just wanted to try something different.😐

Google
First time in LA. My colleague and I wanted to try local Mexican. We were not disappointed. This place was friendly!! It was early so we got a nice table. Staff were very attentive. We thought the salsa at this location was outstanding! Never sampled a salsa like this before - it leaves a delightful tingle on your tongue. Also enjoyed the hint of lime. Fajitas were hot, fresh, cooked to order, and delicious! The only thing I wondered about is parking - scarce parking especially with 2 other restaurants on either side. Most customers must walk/be local.

Prices are not updated on Google, I looked them up online and saw that the basic burrito was $9.99, I ordered a basic burrito over the phone, when I got there I was charged $16+ change, I asked why it was that much when it said said $9.99 online and they stated thats the price. Regretfully I paid and will say im not coming back here no more cause $17 for a basic burrito is ridiculous. I should have gone to Giyos, they have the same burrito for 1/2 the price.

I have been coming here for years! The food is amazing! Always a great experience coming here

Google
I've been coming to them since 2008. It's one of my favorites. All the staff is incredibly kind and attentive. Their prices are great and the food is delicious. Today, I had their pozole, but I typically order their costillas with mocajete sauce, with a side of rice and beans and homemade corn tortillas. Amazing establishment. It's definitely one of Culver City's best Mexican restaurants!!!

Google
I came here last week and they were able to accommodate our party of 12. The food was really good. They have authentic Mexican food from queso fundido (melted cheese) to pozole. We did order a shrimp ceviche as an appetizer and it was yummy! I ordered the Milanesa plate and it was really good! In our party we had some kids so they were served a quesadilla and chicken nuggets with fries. So there are options for the kids. And for the adults some had margaritas and some ordered palomas which my party enjoyed. The service was great and the food was really yummy! I hope people can come and enjoy this authentic Mexican restaurant! 🇲🇽

This is my third time going to this restaurant and it always has amazing tasting food. From sopes to chile relleno I love the food. The people here are very nice and professional.

Yelp
i've eaten in person twice and also had delivery a few times - overall I think it's a good option at a decent price. Most recently I went for lunch and had their 2 crispy taco combo - it was tasty and the rice/beans were also good. I've had their guacamole in the past and I wasn't a huge fan - it wasn't worth the price. The interior of the restaurant is really cute, during covid they had outdoor seating but it is no longer an option. Parking is easy as it's in the same plaza as Ralphs. Service was excellent and very attentive refilling water, etc.,

Yelp
What a super pleasant surprise it was to find Don Chuy's! I'm never one to pass up Mexican food and this was the perfect little spot for lunch. Dropped off Josh the dog at the groomer and was looking for a nice lunch somewhere. Lucky for us, Don Chuy's was in the same parking lot and quickly headed in. Arrived around 11:30am and took a look at the menu. The lunch specials stood out the most for their great pricing. We opted for the Torta (which was gigantic) and the carne asada plate (not on the lunch menu but after the gym session i had, steak was calling my name). Both were great and flavorful. I really enjoyed my steak, they seasoned it perfectly. We also grabbed a few Modelo's to round out our great little lunch, always a good choice. Nice little lunch at Don Chuy's. Food was good and I love a good excuse to hang out in a nice booth. If Im ever in the mood for mexican food, this is a great option to add to the list.

Yelp
I judge any Mexican restaurant by their refried beans... these were DELICIOUS!! I loved the chips and pico they bring for the table. Had the hard shell taco plate; ground beef and asada. Both DELICIOUS!! Not too noisy and they had the Dodger game on. Service was great!
google avatar

Dee T.

Yelp
The service was great and the wait time wasn't long. Servers were kind and sufficient. Place and dining ware were pretty clean. They give you complimentary chips and salsa (really good) when dining in I believe. I got the lunch combo, with an enchilada and taco (hard sell), both chicken, with rice and refried beans on the side. I didnt enjoy the chicken used inside, it wasn't bad but I feel like the chicken could've used some more flavor. I also ordered a lime margarita that was pretty bland to me. They do have other dishes I'd like to try in the future so yeah that's cool.

Yelp
This local spot is still delivering dollar taco nights on Tuesdays to this day and it's glorious. Good service and atmosphere only adds to the experience. I wish they would stay open later if even to just keep watching Dodgers home games with the staff.

Yelp
My husband and I went here for the first time . Very nice restaurant. Ambiance is great Good was decent. The reason I give 3 stars is because case the chimichanga was super dry to my husband . He thinks it needed more meat. Also it seemed as if we were waiting around d a lot for assistance- we noticed that "take out/ to go" was really busy and that seemed to be their main focus. All and all had a great time:-) and you can't beat 99 cent tacos for taco Tuesday !!!!
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and daughter were sick so I ordered the caldo de pollo for them to share. It was a generous portion in a 32 oz. container for about $15 or so with tax via DoorDash. The soup was very comforting with a generous portion of well cooked chicken and came with separate containers of chopped onions, cilantro, rice, and limes to add to the soup. They also included some chips! This was actually my first time having this type of soup so I don't have much to compare it to, but when I looked at what ingredients this soup should contain--corn and potatoes were always listed, which this didn't contain. We were expecting corn and potatoes so this was somewhat disappointing (bringing the rating down from 4 stars to 3) but would order this again when under the weather.
google avatar

Juan G.

Yelp
Unfortunately Don Chuy's has failed in delivering quality service before and they did it again. They forgot to add the tortillas to our order, they didn't include utensils or napkins, and the actual pozole was under seasoned and bland. The tortilla chips were also old and stale. This is the third time it's happened and it's very disappointing so we won't be going back for the foreseeable future. I recommend you check your order before leaving the restaurant, which I didn't think was necessary, but you just never know with this place.

Joe M.

Yelp
ayo change yo prices on here. ordering online through yelp and looking at posted menu prices without ordering gives two different results. ie : $14 for two chile rellenos on menu, but when you order for takeout it's $20. Besides this. The restaurant and the service and really nice. Nice atmosphere inside, music isn't overbearing. The food is very good as well. Took my food to go but wouldnt mind eating in. Horchata is made from a base, but if you like that kind of horchata then it's here, i myself prefer a genuine horchata but i understand that it takes time and probably more money. Choices choices

Yelp
The food at this restaurant is so good! Their chilaquiles are amazing and so is their huevos con chorizo!

Yelp
The chips & salsa have a fun flavor & I look forward to them. The beef tacos are my favorite, and the enchiladas are always delicious. The staff is very attentive and friendly. My service has always been quick, and I really love this place! Taco Tuesday specials look great, need to remember to try.

Michael M.

Yelp
Went here today. Food was bland and service was not good. Had to chase down waiters multiple times for various items. No plates are given to you for dine in. I received a fajita order with the steaming plates and no plate for anything else. Salsas are bland too. 1st and last time. Really tight inside too hard to sit if over six feet tall and in a booth.

Yelp
Provender: this is a fantastic Mexican restaurant in the Culver City area. They serve all sorts of entrees from tacos and burritos to fajitas and more. They offer carne asada, chicken, carnitas, and seafood or vegetarian options. I ate the orijinal burrito with carne asada and it was delicious. You also get to choose from a variety of salsas. Prices: very reasonable. A burrito will run you about $15 and the portion is huge. Parking: the restaurant is located in a large shopping plaza, anchored by a Ralph's Fresh Fare, so there are ample parking spots available. People: fun for all. Perks: they have both outdoor and indoor seating. Staff were all incredibly friendly. I thought the portions were generous. They offer a variety of salsas, so you can order the tomatillo (more mild) to the molcajete (more spicy). Service was fantastic and they had a great ambiance. They also have a great happy hour menu and taco Tuesday specials. And they serve micheladas!

Yelp
Ambiance: family style Mexican restaurant, spacious inside and small covered outdoor patio, comfortable chair and sofa seats Service: very friendly and attentively refilled water, provided useful suggestions Food & Drink: plenty choices on the menu and good combinations options Salsa & Chips - *** average taste Carnitas Taco - **** soft shell topped with onions, and cilantro, tasty fried pork, recommend Beef Enchiladas - *** choice of shredded beef, average taste Las Fajitas - **** seasoned & grilled with green bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes on a sizzling skillet, served with spanish rice and pinto beans, garnished with guacamole, choice of flour tortillas, two protein choices of Chicken and Steak, rich in flavors and good with spice sauce, recommend Strawberry Margarita - *** light taste Price: generous portions and reasonable prices, expect about $30 per person

Yelp
Always delicious! Staff is incredibly friendly every time we order takeout. My wife and I have dined in at the restaurant as well and everything was perfect.

Yelp
Daughter just moved into the area and we came across Don Chuy's. All three of us really liked the meal, and I have to compliment their help - really terrific staff, we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
the best taco tuesday deal around! had the asada and carnitas tacos, yummy! i personally couldn't have the salsa or the al pastor tacos so just noting it here for next time. but even my picky toddler loved the chips. would definitely come back. planning to also try a margarita or a paloma next time - kinda regret not trying the drinks there too!

Yelp
Great atmosphere, and they also have Breakfast and Lunch and Taco Tuesday 99cents 5 minimum.

Yelp
The service & food at Don Chuy's is a 10/10, the servers are very customer service friendly they work as a team, it's a clean restaurant, that includes the restroom we ordered our food & received it within ten minutes they welcome you with tortilla chips / pico de gallo followed by you're beverage while you decide what to order let's not forget the music you can vibe while you enjoy a delicious meal. I look forward to eating dinner with the rest of my family & friends. My mom approved & that is rare she is picky lol but yeah go guys I totally recommend. Good job guys it's rare that you find restaurants that have good servers .

Alex D.

Yelp
Probably the best veggie tacos I've ever ever had! Feels like a good old-fashioned Mexican restaurant from the 70's ( in the best possible way :-)) My mom had her favorite shredded beef taco, and it looked truly amazing!

Karen T.

Yelp
Good food but the service is lacking. I have dined here many times and always enjoyed the food, however, on my 7th or 8th time here, I've noticed that they consistently don't have flatware and napkins on the table. We get the chips and salsa and then we realize there are no napkins on the table. There were four of us at the table and again, no napkins were provided with the chips. I asked for napkins and we were given two napkins. Eventually someone else came by with more napkins and then, after that, more napkins with flatware. Isn't it just basic service to make sure napkins are given when any food is served? This won't keep me from going back but I will definitely keep in mind to ask for them when the chips and salsa are served.

Yelp
My dog is seeing a specialist here in Culver City and we spotted this place in the Ralphs supermarket shopping area during one of our outings and decided to give it a try. We are from the central valley so Mexican food is a staple and sometimes it's a little worrisome to try Mexican food when you're somewhere else because it is pretty darn good where I live. This restaurant offers a small seating area outside, but we chose to sit inside. We were able to choose our own table, and we were given menus immediately the young woman who waited on us, was very pleasant and answered the questions I had about the menu. They have a fairly good selection of items lots of standards, tacos, burritos, enchiladas, etc. I was very hungry and ordered the taco plate which usually comes with two tacos, rice and beans however, I really did not want rice that day and asked if they could just give me beans and I also wanted a cheese enchilada. My sister ordered one of the giant burritos. The tortillas for the tacos are excellent. I had ordered shredded beef tacos, one soft and one hard just so I can see which one I liked best. I definitely would recommend the soft taco although both were good. Soft tacos have the standard cilantro, onion, and cabbage where the hard shell has the cheese and lettuce the sauce of the enchilada was not sweet, it was a nice flavor, the beans were also very good and I ignored my common sense and ended up eating everything. I would say the only thing that wasn't especially good were the chips and salsa they serve you on the table. We were served a pico de Gallo in a tiny little cup, and it was a little cumbersome to try to get some on your chip because the cup was so small. My sister said her burrito was very good. She had also opted for shredded beef and asked for no cilantro on hers. It was huge, and appeared to have the same sauce on it as the enchilada. A glass of beer on tap was eight dollars but my lunch came to just slightly over $20 and was worth it. We will definitely be back here again.

Yelp
I went for taco Tuesday; I thought it was strange that they charged extra for salsa. The tacos were alright, you get what you pay for, you definitely need the salsa. The margarita wasn't great but definitely worth the $7. Music was on the duller side, service was okay.

Yelp
Needed to grab a bite after an event in Culver City. As we stood in the auditorium parking lot, my friend found this place on her phone. It was close, we were hungry, we weren't picky. Got there and chips and salsa were served immediately. The ambiance was cozy. I ordered an enchilada and chile relleno fully expecting that it would be too much food. And hot Mexican chocolate. I ended up cleaning my plate. It was delicious. And I didn't feel gross or too full afterwards, which is a sure sign that the ingredients were fresh. The service was excellent. In a world where everyone is being fancy and new, this felt like the Mexican restaurants we grew up with. Perfecto. I'm still thinking about it 24 hours later, hence this review. Next time I find myself in Culver City, this place will be on my list.

Yelp
Food is good but service is hit or miss. Went to eat breakfast at 9am. Posted hours say they open at 9. Got there at 9:05 and the doors were locked. Waited until 9:12 still locked. Called them and asked what time they open and they said 9. I told them that their door was locked so they aren't open at 9 and the person I was talking to hung up on me.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is a shopping center and it's a lot smaller than I expected. Although small it appears a lot of locals tend to visit this restaurant. We order margaritas that were too sweet and not enough alcohol. The food was ok, nothing special. The birria was too spicy and not the typical birria. The albóndigas soup was more soup and less veggies or albóndigas. The server was sweet and tried her best but was not attentive due to being the only server. I doubt I'll be back.
google avatar

Yesenia T.

Yelp
I love going here for taco Tuesdays and service is great. They have outdoor seating but I'm an indoor eater. But all and all good Mexican food and drinks

Yelp

Yelp
Great service, decor and fresh food AND you won't break the bank eating there Had passed by this new location many times before but had never stopped in The decor, music and table we were seated at were all great Ordered two taco plates, burrito (shredded beef) and a beer/margarita All were freshly done in a style that will keep you coming back for more Run don't walk to this place

Yelp
normally we have a great delivery experience with Don Chuy's but we ordered shrimp Al mojo de ajo this time and there is literally six shrimp. for a signature dish and over $20 that's absurd.

Brad M.

Yelp
I had fish tacos and they were great We ordered chips and guacamole and it was fresh My wife ordered shrimp fajitas, which are the best in town. They came to the table, sizzling with the aroma of onions and bell peppers permeating the air. The owner was there to welcome us also great place

Yelp
For the longest time this spot has been a family favorite for many years especially while growing up. My family always wanted to go here for any little celebration because it's just like being home without having to cook. The service when walking in is great you're greeted with so much warmth lol if that makes sense you feel comfy like part of the family. From always enjoying this spot growing up to finally eating it again after so long I can say it has changed on me maybe it was my choice of food but even then everything should be flavorful. Today I chose the chimichanga and I felt like it was so bland if not for the sour cream and enchilada sauce I feel like this dish would have been really bad. The beans and rice and meat had no flavor. I want to keep loving this spot so I will not go lower than a four because I know the potential and I'm sure they have many dishes that would have been better than my boring chimichanga. So I will be going back and giving them another try on another occasion. I'll be back for another review hopefully a better update

Yelp
Found this diamond in the rough in our own backyard after a beautiful walk up the mountain. We had been smelling the homemade corn tortillas which smelled fantastic and it was dinner time so we pulled this place up on Yelp & saw the great reviews and decided to eat here, and so glad we did! Inside, the decor of this place is very authentic Mexican with peaceful mariachi music playing - very charming. First, their corn chips and corn tortillas are made here and so good. The salsa that comes with the chips is more of a pick de guillo and is very tangy and good. It was Taco Tuesday and their street tacos are $0.99 each so we got one of each (bean, chicken, carnitas, pastor & asada) and they came on hand made corn tortillas and were awesome! I got the cheese enchilada & chili relleno combo ($14.95) and it was delicious. The rice and beans were great and this dish came with a side of tortillas - your choice, flour or corn and since the corn is homemade I got corn and they are wonderful. My girlfriend got the El Don burrito ($14.95) which was huge and she got the red & green sauce. Their burritos are very tasty & good! All-in-all a 5 star experience. So glad we stopped in to try it!!

Yelp
If you hungry as hell and can't find no good food near you please DO NOT TRY THIS PLACE. My meat came w tin foil! They forgot my tortillas they forgot the meat for one of my plates, ordered 5 plates total! Potatoes is nasty, rice had no flavor, chilaquiles was probably the only good thing there !
google avatar

William B.

Yelp
The costillas de puerca with red sauce is delicious. It reminded me of my grandmothers cooking. Especially when paired with the handmade corn tortillas. The service was fast and pleasant! The music is soothing and they had the dodger game on Tv. I'm so happy I decided to stop and eat an early dinner while waiting for the traffic to die down.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
Meh. Came for taco Tuesday where they offer 99cent tacos and you really get what you pay for. Tacos were "street" size, maybe even smaller, and you get a tablespoon of meat. We asked for salsa and they gave us a red sauce which tasted like tapatio. Ordered margaritas (with agave wine), they don't have a full bar just beer and wine so they weren't the best.

P L.

Yelp
Best tacos ever! Tried the beef tacos, very flavorful! Service was quick and food came out quickly! We also tried their flan and churros. It was delicious! Definitely recommend coming here! They are located in a shopping mall .

Yelp
This place is awesome can't wait to go back to try more things Haven't had a drink yet but I'm going to try everything else soon.

Yelp
Went here when they were on Mesmer near Chick Fil A for lunch. Thought the burrito was good back then (pre-pandemic). Bought a few things today and it was all meh. Not much flavor on the wet burrito. Tamales are also tasteless. The tamales at Playa Vista Famers Market are cheaper, bigger, and tastier. I think of Don Chuy's as the local mexican place you grew up with in the 90's. I wanted to wish them well and see how they've improved post-Covid (and new world), but I think it's time to call it. Everything about it felt cheap and not fresh. End of an era. Either evolve or game over.

Esther S.

Yelp
I can wait to go back the food was very delicious, good customer service the place was very clean and comfortable. I want to try the Costillitas en salsa and they hand made corn tortillas
google avatar

Sebastian M.

Yelp
Im going to start off with the salsa. The salsa taste like ceviche. The water they served me had some kind of worm in it. My sis and brother-in-law ordered a grilled chicken torta, but when they received it, both sandwiches were microwaved and not even grilled. My mom ordered a bowl of menudo, and they only brought her a cup. My girlfriend ordered a grilled chicken and onion plate, and when she received it, she got more onion and barely any chicken. I ordered an asada burrito, and it lacked flavor and had a bunch of onions. The sauce tasted like chili sauce. Customer service was bad. We waited 55 minutes for our unsatisfying plates and no refills from our beverages. The environment wasn't really welcoming. It was all tight. We felt squished. They call themselves authentic Mexican food, but they aren't legit. 100% don't recommend going here

Harry S.

Yelp
Always clean and smells amazing. Greatest staff around and having the Don himself there all The time with his amazing wife is always fun. The crispy ground beef tacos are one of my goto. Breakfast burritos are always on point. Never fails. Great bang for you buck compared to many other place around. Also a nice tap beer selection. This place is an all time favorite. Andy, Eddy and Porfix are freaking awesome and always ready to serve.
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Service was fast, the place is clean and the people were polite. Only giving 4 stars because my burrito have very little meat but the flavor was good!

Yelp
Don Chuys is Bomb here in Culver City. I love the street tacos and Cheese Enchiladas. We had lunch here yesterday on our business meeting, and I found the food and place to be impressive. Nice looking Mexican vibe inside, and the music to enjoy a paradise looking atmosphere. The tacos were good with chopped meat, and spices inside. You can choose beef, chicken , or pork. Cheese Enchiladas were moist, and seasoned good. Love the waiters and waitress here. They work hard to make their customers happy.

Yelp
Food: party of three, ordered Menudo and two side dishes of birria and carne en salsa verde. The menudo is subpar, it didn't give that usual bang, while consuming it. 3/5 at best. The carne en salsa verde and the birria according to the rest of the party was "pretty good" 4/5 The beans from both plates were not good at all 2.5/5 If the aguas frescas were indeed "Aguas Frescas" it wouldn't matter if you had to pay extra for them, but since they are from syrup, then what's the problem?? Service: our server when asked which is better the menudo or the birria, said," he is not sure, but I guess the menudo sells more." That lack of energy was underwhelming, how are you going to sell a product and don't even make it sound good. Food was brought out in a timely manner, then our service (yes, not just the server) but service as a whole, disappeared, only came back once to offer coffee. The owner "Don Chuy" greeting all other tables and incoming guests but didn't even pass by ours, not sure if there was an issue, as we were speaking to the staff in Spanish when a language barrier was obvious. Return? Not probable

Yelp
The food ok! But what makes it worse is the service, the employees were so rude. The attitude of the staff made the dining experience horrible. The seating and table were sticky and the attitude of the staff made the place even uglier! The food is ok! But don't waste your time, unless you wanted to be treated rudly and disrespected. They seem to get a lot of DoorDash orders, so they forgot how to deal with actual patrons. Will not be going back- don't recommend it and stop Door Dashing from these horrible people.

Pamela M.

Yelp
It exceed my expectations. Good was very good and chips and salsa was solid but ask for the red sauce instead of the pico. Staff was very nice and attentive. Not expensive at all!

Yelp
Tried Don Chuy's tonight (ordered take-out) I live just a few blocks from the restaurant and have always wanted to try it. The food quality is excellent and very tasty. I ordered a few items with chicken which were very good. All white meat and very flavorful. Next time I'm going to eat in the restaurant so I can try the cocktails.
