Don Duck Old Quarter

"Bliss for duck lovers! This eatery in the bustling Old Quarter conjures up almost every conceivable form of your favourite poultry. For an authentic local taste, try the duck phở noodle soup. For a variation of the Chinese classic, order the grilled à la Peking duck or enjoy duck in hotpots, spring rolls, or even deep-fried and tossed in a sweet and sour sauce. Tasty food, a casual vibe and reasonable prices make this place a firm favourite." - Michelin Inspector

The 1/2 roast duck taste smokey good. Came hot and juicy. Although it is not the roasted crispy type but it is still good. Duck pho broth is tasty and was able to taste the smoked duck meat while eating. Duck fried spring roll is crispy and well seasoned. The dipping sauce for the 1/2 duck and fried spring roll is well mix and tastes good. These dishes are more than enough for 2 person servings. The service staff are friendly and approachable. Btw, the toilet is well maintained and there are good enough soaps and clean water for u to wash away your oily hand if u use yr hand to tear the meat from the duck!

the Duck Breast Steak is a must try. i personally don't like breast meat but this is different. it almost has the beef steak texture. very nicely marinated and cooked. the spring rolls come with a very unique sauce, a good appetiser to start with. beef fried rice is good too. if u like less salty rice, go for this. they give u a soy sauce as a condiment if u find it too blend. we 2 persons share these 3 dishes, quite fulfilling 👍🏼 overall we spent 550,000 including a bottle of Saigon beer, recommended by the server. oh the server - very friendly, very hospitable and speaks very good English, surely no language barrier.

The roast duck had no gaminess, was super juicy and well marinated with a smokey flavour. It’s nothing like Chinese Peking duck yet somewhat similar at the same time and is a must try for their signature dish. Duck spring rolls were good & unique. The pho didn’t have much of the aromatic taste or fragrance of pho. It was more of a clear rice noodle soup that was good, but lacked the spices of pho. The liver terrine was pretty good with coconut fragrance in the toast. Drinks were fresh. It’s not often that I think a Michelin guide/bib award is meaningful but this place deserved it. The service & attention to detail was elevated for a small restaurant. Highly recommended to eat here at least once when in Hànội. Cảm ơn.

It was so good the first time we had dinner there that we went back a second time! We were looking for something a little different, having had our fill of Bun Cha and Pho. For some reason I was also craving a glass of wine. Found Don Duck on a google search and turned up for dinner to be greeted by wonderful staff especially Long who took great pains to get to know us and to remember our names. On our first visit I had the Sweet and Sour Duck while my wife had Braised Duck with Galangal. Both were superb. On our second visit we both opted for the 1/4 Duck and had our fill. And Long remembered our names on our second visit! If you go and have the pleasure of being served by Long, do engage this young man in conversation - he is very dedicated to being superb at his job. We thoroughly recommend Don Duck - and if we were staying longer in Hanoi would doubtless try the other items on the menu. Sneaked a peek at some of the other patrons' choices and they looked yummy! Maybe next trip...

The duck in this restaurant is definitely better than other restaurants that serve duck. The duck itself does have flavor The only drawback is that they did not cook it long enough, because the duck meat is a little bit tough and a little bit hard to chew. But at least the flavor is there in addition to their dipping sauce to make their duck meat taste good. Their duck pate for some reason it doesn't quite have to flavor that I was expecting but it is smooth and creamy. The duck Pho soup is below average because there is some duck flavor in the soup but not much. The longer the duck meat stays in the soup the more flavor it gets from the duck meat.

The food is very good, many duck options. The roast duck has unfortunately too many bones to our taste. But the duck with sauce was just mind blowing - specially the combination with the shredded rice pasta (first time I’ve personally seen this). The guava juice was very well done and the cutlery was also in great conditions. Good atmosphere, fantastic service!

Craved some Peking duck and it did not disappoint! The duck was juicy, the skin perfectly crispy — exactly how it should be. I also ordered their phở, and the soup was overwhelmingly amazing: rich, flavorful, and comforting. A satisfying meal from start to finish!

Easily one of the better places I'd eaten at while in the old quarter. I was surprised when I found out that don duck was no longer part of the Michelin guide, because from the service to the food, everything was exceptional. While i waited, I was served complimentary spring rolls which tasted absolutely fantastic. I order the duck steak, and while the portion size may have looked underwhelming, it certainly was not. The sauce could have been better but the cool on the duck was done well. The interiors are a bit run down, but the overall atmosphere feels warm and welcoming. Prices here are also quite moderate.
