Cute local Wichita Falls Mexican Food establishment. Nestled away in a neighborhood community is obviously a hot spot for the locals- it was busy, but no wait. The restaurant has old Mexican charm and hospitality. The decor and service were as expected. Our server was kind and checked on us. Nothing we ordered was the WOW factor we hoped to find when we go off the beaten path and try a small diner type restaurant. They serve chips and queso to greet you (like back in the good 'ol days) ((Anyone under 30 y/o won't get this--- because now that's called an appetizer everywhere else, to the tune of $9.95)) the salsa was nice, chunky. The queso, bland to my palate. To each their own. There are way too many options on the menu, but you definitely won't go hungry. That's my two cents, go find your own.

Google
They donate 14 meals to our Senior Care in our Community. Was very nice and so appreciative to help. These people weren't the original one I knew. So they weren't just being nice because I was a client. This was the younger generation n very pleasant. So nice to see in this community. Very romantic n fun place to go on a date ya'll. Try them out.

Went to order take out. Niece wanted just nachos and cheese. I wanted to order some seafood. The employee taking our order had a bad grasp of English. I ordered 2 meals of fish. They brought out the bag in minutes. When I got home, my niece saw that her chips were covered in meat. She is a vegetarian. My 2 orders of fish missed one of the orders. Next time have someone fluent in English, so they do not mess up the order. The prices were disappointing. I do not recommend them any longer.

My boys and I love going here. We haven’t ordered anything yet that we haven’t liked. My boys love their homemade tortillas and will ask for multiple orders while we are there.

Fast friendly service Food was excellent Staff is friendly and attentive We sat in restaurant for lunch. The atmosphere was friendly and pleasant. Our waiter was very attentive and food came out quickly. I had lunch fajitas and my son had quesadila lunch. Everything was delicious. Price was comparable. Excellent restaurant. I recommend

This is a usual stop we make when passing through Wichita Falls. The food and service are consistently excellent. The margaritas are quite good. I would highly recommend.

Google
We have been here twice and they easily have the best margarita in wichita falls. The service is excellent and the salsa is great!

Google
Food arrived quick but I like my enchiladas baked to crispier texture.

Yelp
When we come to Wichita Falls, we reserve a night to dine at Don Jose Mexican Food. They have a Peruvian background on staff and provide recipes based on their history. I ordered my favorite menu item Chupe De Camaron a fish soup in creamy milk seafood broth with vegetables and spices. My sponsor ordered the Flautas, her favorite item. Looking forward to our next visit.

Rena D.

Yelp
Food was great and the home made salsa was delicious. Looking forward to eating more of their spicy food. The beef and the chicken were both excellent. Service was satisfactory. We enjoyed it and plan on going back soon.

Yelp
Ummmmmmmm we won't be going back to Don Jose's. I had the rotisserie chicken flautas which I found to be very dry and yet taste like oil.. My husbands fajita's were so bland he had to doctor them up with salsa, salt and pepper. One bright spot was that the charro beans were delicious. You never know if you don't try. We tried Don Jose's and now we know we don't care for it.

Yelp
The food was delicious. Ordered the chile verde which tasted great. Staff were friendly, and service was excellent. Always a great choice for Mexican food.

Yelp
This place is SOOOOOO good! The beans are unmatched!!! I can't say enough the about the beans (fave) and the fish tacos were top notch! Also got the Cancun margarita- delish! We've been back twice already! So good! Staff is great!

Yelp
Eight in Wichita Falls on Saturday night we believe was the 26th not sure maybe the 25th lol food was really good. The drinks were awesome. Could only handle one.

Yelp
Absolutely AMAZING Mexican food! We traveled from west Texas on our way to Oklahoma and stopped for a quick bite- and thankfully stumbled upon this authentic Mexican restaurant! Fantastic service, cold beers, and fresh salsa. This is the place to eat if you're passing through!

Curtis H.

Yelp
First of all, this is one of my favorite places to eat Mexican food in Wichita Falls. This review doesn't change that. I tried something different and new on the menu - the rotisserie chicken. I had heard good things about it and my was aching to try it and I did today. It was not great. Frankly, the chicken was overcooked and the exterior was very hard in spots. The interior was ok but a little dry overall. I would not order this again but I will be back. Our server was excellent as always and the atmosphere is cordial and pleasant.

Lulu J.

Yelp
I definitely recommend this Mexican restaurant food was delicious big portions excelente waiter everything was great! Oh my margarita was the best!!

Haleigh H.

Yelp
The food was so yummy! The white queso is definitely worth the price! We enjoyed the street tacos and queso flamado! Our waiter Enrique was very impressive and gave excellent service! The margaritas were delicious also! By far my favorite in Wichita Falls!

Greg M.

Yelp
Stopped in for dinner after the HHH bike ride. We had exceptional service from Olivia, she was very quick to bring large ice waters to get us rehydrated! Complimentary chips, salsa, and queso was a great start as well. Three of us ordered different main dishes, and all were tasty with good portion. 4 stars for solid tex mex and 5 stars for the service from Olivia.

Robert B.

Yelp
We were in Wichita Falls, Tx for a few days over Christmas (we live in New Mexico) and having Googled "Best Mexican Restraunts" and finding Don Juan went there for dinner. We were pleasently surprised to find a charming (and very busy!) place. Great margaritas! Each of us (we three) got our own salsa and queso bowls and a large basket of fresh, tasty tortilla chips. The salsa was more a pico de gallo and deeeelicious! I ordered the spinach enchiladas with a sour cream sauce which was great! My wife had shrimp tacos which were overflowing with fresh lettuce, onion, cilantro, tomato and huge flavorful shrimp. Our waitress was friendly and efficient. If I should find myself in that town again I am definitly going back! - Bob B

Yelp
Excellent food with huge portions. You will leave here feeling satisfied with leftovers to take home.

Yelp
Wonderful food and service! Beautiful presentation and all of it was amazing, flavor, freshness and spice!

Yelp
Probably the worst restaurant Mexican food I've had. I ordered the enchiladas. Firstly, where are half of the ingredients??! No lettuce, tomato, salsa, onion, nothing. The little that was there was bad (see the picture). The beans were soupy, the rice didn't have much flavor, The chicken was dry. Also these tortillas were hardly wrapped- really just looks thrown in there. We tried the beef enchiladas too, and while a little more flavorful, very same look and not good. There isn't much open when looking for Mexican food in Wichita Falls for dinner (at least not much that come up on Yelp), but next time I would skip and just wait for a different lunch spot.

Yelp
Great food and margaritas at a good price. Quality ingredients and delicious recipes. Good service as well.
google avatar

Ann K.

Yelp
Still the best margarita in town, frozen or on the rocks. Their soups are amazing! They also have some fabulous, efficient, and friendly staff to assist you. If you haven't tried them in a while, give them another go. Try the frozen Italian margarita...any flavor. Delish.

Alex S.

Yelp
Food was not very good. The queso was super runny. The service was fine though. Honestly probably wont go back.
google avatar

Matt S.

Yelp
We eat here at least twice a month and we absolutely love this place. Lately we've been ordering it Togo. Highly recommend this place. Our two boys love their enchiladas and quesadillas. They also have home made tortillas upon request.
google avatar

Hannah R.

Yelp
I DONT recommend this place. I went here for my birthday dinner with a group of 7 and we all got sick. 2 people ended up with food poisoning, and everyone else either threw up or was queasy and nauseous the next day. Their drinks are good, but don't eat the food!
google avatar

Kevin H.

Yelp
Our last visit was less than stellar. We went with a large group for a friends birthday and the staff seemed reluctant to seat us. We were actually not able to sit together despite calling ahead and being told they would. Frustrating. Waitress did the best she could but she was working our group of 18 by herself. Food was mediocre at best. There are so many other Tex-mex options in town, so probably our last visit.

Olivia K.

Yelp
Ordered a tres leches cake Togo and they took a cake in the back and came out with a cake with chocolate and sprinkles.. I'm not sure if they think I didn't know what it looked like but I know for sure it wasn't tres leches. Went back and asked them is this their tres leches and they said yes. Didn't want to argue with them so I left.

Yelp
Coming from Michigan I was really hoping for some authentic Texan Mexican cuisine, it was definitely different than the Mexican food I'm used to. Best I ever had? No. Worth it? Yes! What I loved about this menu was that it has much more variety than I'm used to. Shrimp and seafood dishes with spicy sauces....more advanced carnitas and shredded pork dishes. Super sad I didn't try it. We got chips, salsa, queso, margaritas, steak fajitas and fish tacos that were all super yummy. Margaritas were good! Decent size, less that $6, and a good tequila section - just one will give you a little buz for sure. Every meal comes with free chips, salsa and queso. The salsa tasted heavy with tomatoes, wasn't sweet or salty, very rich in vegetable flavor. It had a fresh out of the garden type of feel. The queso comes in a small cup, everyone gets their own little cup of queso and salsa. The queso is a light yellow, a tad bit watery but not overbearingly cheesy. I'm not a big cheese fan and this was the perfect balance for me! I got the fish tacos and holy cow was it good. They come in flour tortillas with a slice of an avocado, layered with a creamy green jalapeño sauce and the fish is battered. Crispy crunch and yummy!!!! Was extremely happy with my choice! The fajitas you can get double, basically means it feeds two better than another order. Comes with pairings for you and the other person, two separate plates of fajita toppings and tortillas. Plenty of vegetables and lots of food for later. Lots of seating, friendly staff and if it's your birthday or any special celebration you'll definitely get recognized by the staff. Small tables but the chips and salsa with free queso takes away from the little things. Limited parking but available lots across the street are open too.

Yelp
4.5 stars - Lunch - Thursday (1st visit) Waiter - Solomon Party - Three adults Wow, I never expected to be amazed at this restaurant. I passed by this location at least 100 times and thought one day I should stop in after seeing the parking lot packed. The parking lot was empty except for one car. One of the low points for this location was the parking which is not the best and creates high accident potential. The best time to enjoy yourself is for lunch since a packed parking lot seems to occur always during the evening. Inside was an eclectic and ambient atmosphere. The decorations were nice and I appreciated the ESPN Deportes on the big screens. The entire inside had a nice vibe and I was pleasantly surprised by the three distinct sitting areas. Our waiter was Solomon and he was in the top 10% of the waiters I've ever met. He was attentive, knowledgeable, and courteous! Our order: Chips w/queso and salsa - Good, queso a bit watery Fish tacos - ***********wow wow wow *********** Shrimp tacos - good, could be more crispy / seasoned Lomo Saltado - good Brisket burrito - a bit bland Chicken burrito - good meat, queso on top didn't go well Tres Leches Cake - **********wow wow wow ******* Overall, there were some good food and some that was just okay. The only bummer was the queso which was a bit watery and the brisket burrito which was not that flavorful. I will return for another opinion!

Diana B.

Yelp
On our travels to Colorado opted to try this restaurant and I was pleasantly surprised. My husband Chicken Fiesta Platter which came with rice, beans, sour cream chicken enchilada, chicken quesadilla, chicken flauta, and chicken taco- more than enough food. I ordered the flautas which came with rice and beans. Both plates came with tasty quacamole, lettuce, tomatoes. Our waitress was attentive and nice; refilled our drinks without us having to ask us always a big plus. The outside is not telling of the great food and service that awaits you.

Marisa P.

Yelp
Quick delicious and clean. Staff was friendly and patient. Chile rellenos, chips salsa and Queso was excellent

Yelp
So the location makes you think local spot/local dive. Everything we has was tasty. From the margarita to the dips to the tacos to the Peruvian steak over fries. Recommend you try this place out. Oh ask for the green hot sauce if you like it hot!

Virginia N.

Yelp
Great great food, best margarita's in town just like chips I can' have just one

Defenu S.

Yelp
Nice people, horrible service & food. Ordered one thing, got another. Meat was grade C like the low-quality kind you get at bad fast food Texmex restaurants. Cheese was like the plastic cheese you get at a movie theater, but not as good. I was offered a discount, but knowing my original order was cheaper, I said, just charge me for that one. They told me it's the same price (I figured they knew their menu better than me; not true). I get the dam* bill and it's effing not. They're really good at smiling and saying "sorry", but every other reason one would choose to return to a restaurant, is nonexistent. I'll never return to this place.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
The cheese dip, "queso", was awful --a step below 7-11 nacho cheese. But the Margarita was absolutely amazing. The meal, two enchiladas and a brisket taco, was kind of bland. I hit it with some Valentini hot sauce and it became delicious. This is great Mexican restaurant for white people who have never been to California. Exceptional service throughout the meal.

Yelp
It was a Friday night in Wichita Falls, not just any Friday night. It was Cinco de Mayo Friday night. On a whim, our group of 9 of us decided to come by here since we heard it was the best spot in town for Margaritas. Let me break it down really easy...Yes, come here for the Margaritas but don't come here expecting the best Mexican food. While I love me so good Mexican cuisine, it definitely wasn't the best I've had and our entire table agreed it filled the belly but it wasn't making us yearn for more. The Margaritas are very good and for the price ....5/5!! The Food is better than that fast food Taco place but nothing to rave about...3/5 The parking is good if you can find a spot in front of the restaurant, if not good luck...3/5 The service is decent but if you come when it's busy, expect a wait...3/5 Like I said, I'd break it down for you very easy...come for the chips, dip & Margs but pass on everything else!

Mickey M.

Yelp
Best margaritas in town. The food has really improved over the last few years and is awesome! There are reasons the parking lot is always full.
google avatar

Kirsten C.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite places in Wichita Falls. But over the last year or two the quality has changed. It got more popular and the food got more disappointing. Their queso is my favorite in the entire world and they have great margaritas. Those two things have stayed the same. The rest has gone downhill. How disappointing. Hopefully they adjust soon and get back to their old better quality because this place is/was great and is a staple in Wichita Falls
google avatar

Ann K.

Yelp
They consistently have good food, great soups, and terrific drinks all at really reasonable prices. The service is also always good. Ask for Solomon or Pilar and your experience will be enhanced by great service.
google avatar

Missy H.

Yelp
Since our first visit, this has become our weekend habit! The food is consistently great and the service is also fantastic! The first margaritas did not impress but that must have been a fluke because the margaritas are sooo good! My most favorite thing is the brisket burrito. I don't know what they do to that meat but OMG! It is delicious! And HUGE! Two people could split the burritos easily. Also: Marcos, the bartender is so good! Highly recommend Don Jose!
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
The enchiladas were excellent. The flaunts was a bit dry but very big. I did love that you get queso and I hit the right time because the frozen margarita was on happy hour special. I also tried the chocolate tres leche cake which was Awesome!!
google avatar

Sarah L.

Yelp
We almost didn't stop here because of ratings but it was one of our only options so we decided to try it and we were very pleasantly surprised. Our server David was the most efficient servers we've ever had. The meat they used for the fajitas was tender and juicy (beef kind of like stir fry). Rice and beans were traditional Mexican and tasted great too. Salsa is bomb! It's salsa Fresca, super fresh and they serve a melted queso with chips and salsa as well. This place is super tasty and affordable. We spent about $35 including tip for fajitas for 2 & water to drink.
google avatar

Sharon C.

Yelp
Good fajitas, delicious salsa, fast service, homemade tortillas, large beers for $3, and lunch menu everyday.
google avatar

Sabrina D.

Yelp
Dinner was great. Chicken quesadillas are always the best with their juicy chicken. The chicken in my flautas weren't as juicy but still good. Only issue I had was I asked for a side of sour cream for my flautas and I got this little thing for $1.54!!!! Check my receipt out!!! Absolutely ridiculous!!!! If I would've known, I would've never have asked.
google avatar

Kate P.

Yelp
Chips and queso were pretty sorry. Chips were stale and the queso was flavorless. The salsa tasted fresh, but was a bit too spicy for my liking - just my personal opinion. We both ordered tacos el carnitas. The tacos came wrapped in a soft corn tortilla with cilantro, onions, and lime with rice and beans on the side. The tacos and the beans were excellent. The service was great as well. We will definitely be back the next time we visit Wichita Falls.
google avatar

Micah H.

Yelp
The food is subpar, but the drinks make up for that by far! We went in expecting good food and decent drinks, we both left more than slightly intoxicated after the margaritas snuck up on us. I didn't find out until later that they're made with everclear, not tequila like a normal margarita. They're cheap! Happy hour was like 3.25 for a huge margarita. If you're trying to get drunk for pretty cheap and then eat greasy subpar Mexican food, I'd check it out. We'll be back for the drinks. ‍
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
I went there with a group of friends to celebrate, however me and my date didn't get food because we weren't hungry. Due to some personal issues, we had to leave in a hurry but before that they said I had to pay for the chips we ate. I figured it would only be a few dollars since it was only chips and salsa. I gave my card to my friend to pay since we were in a rush. My friend called me later that night when they were leaving and they charged me $47.11 for 3 bowls of chips that we ate. It's an outrage to pay this much for complementary chips that you would get for getting a meal.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
OavFish tacos are the bomb!!! I was in the falls for work and I was supposed to go somewhere else for.lunch but saw this place on my way and i love tacos so I stopped in to check out. I ordered 1 fish taco and 1 asada taco. Yum yum yum! The queso was delish as well. You get complimentary chips, queso and salsa. Really good and I am not a queso fan! So these fish tacos yum yum yum! I am used to beer battered but they dont beer batter and I dont know what they use. I was told cracker meal but whatever they use it is on point. It looks like cornmeal but I was told something else. I liked this place so much I came back the following day for lunch. Resturaunt is nice, staff are friendly and attentive. I will be back if I am in town. Def reccomend.
google avatar

Christopher C.

Yelp
I don't even know what to call the food. Tex-Mex? Crap? The only good thing about this place was the service otherwise i would give it one star. The enchiladas are smothered in what tasted like cheap canned chili. No one in my party was satisfied with their entree. Sad when the best thing on the table is salted chips and salsa.
google avatar

Felix O.

Yelp
If I could give them a no star rating I would. We spent more than 210 dollars on a to go family order for fathers Day and it was by far the worst meal I had in Wichita Falls. They did not provided all the meals, the ones we got were cold and wrong. I felt very cheated after spending that kind of money and the service and quality of food fell way short of any minimum expectations. If this is the kind of service to be expected, I would not recommend this place at all.

Alvaro B.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times but tonight I had enough.... Just 1 comment for u all: it's the only place on earth where the plate is served warmer than the tacos on it....
google avatar

Keith C.

Yelp
The waitress was nice. But the soda was flat, they brought another glass of soda and it was still flat, ended up asking for a bottled drink...the brought a coke in a glass bottle and that soda was flat too! The chips were stale, the salsa was bland, the queso looked like a cheese soup with cilantro sprinkled in. Food was bland too.

Travis B.

Yelp
Asked the desk clerk at La Quinta Inn where the best Mexican food was in town. This was her recommendation. It was the absolute WORST food I have ever tried to eat, Mexican or otherwise. We ordered the Don Jose Superior dinner thinking that the signature plate should be good. The taco al carbon looked and tasted like horse meat made two days earlier. The chili relleno and tamale were almost unrecognizable as real food. The beef enchilada was okay, but it was just hamburger meat with no seasoning. The entire plate was luke warm to cold when delivered. The only thing good about the evening was the Patron margaritas . I would not recommend this place to anyone expecting authentic Mexican food. Sorry, but that's the truth.

Jeanne M.

Yelp
My grandson is stationed at Shepherd AFB, he's still in training and had not been off base. The first thing he wanted to eat was Mexican! We asked the front desk if they could recommend any place. The pointed us to DON JOSE! WOW what great food! The margaritas were excellent. The SERVICE was beyond great! We would highly recommend DON JOSE. I know people have different opinions what is good food and what is not. But in our opinion it was great.
