Don Juan mexican Restaurant

I'm typically not a huge fan of Mexican food, but I enjoy this place religiously. The drive thru makes things so much more convenient than anywhere else. Definitely a staple for morning rush hour and there's never any wait! Best part is that the lady who always has the perfect lipstick always has such a bright friendly smile, even before the sun rises. Her kindness and good mood is always so infectious; it magically cures the blues of an otherwise stressful morning rush hour and work day!! You're sure to have a great day if you start it here; their breakfast menu is pretty extensive, too. Pancakes, porkchop, bacon egg and cheese, you name it! The Migas somehow always stays crispy. Even the tacos are pretty big, and everything is such a great price!! Today I'm trying the Milanesa. Phenomenal ❤️ i love the texture and portion size! Inside, they have a bar with unique and eccentric drink options. The decor is adorable and unique as well! Very cute interior, with Custom Don Juan booths, chairs, even high chairs! I almost wish the patio was as cute, but I'm glad they at least have that option; it's a beautiful day.

Food was fantastic! Even though there were a few bugs in the place, the food was too good. One swing at the bugs, though, and they stopped coming by. Maybe they've been trained. Loved the green salsa. The chips (homemade like everything else) were light and crispy, and they weren't overly salted. The barbacoa wasn't greasy, was tender, and tasted great. The beans weren't too heavy either. Everything in my order was great, which was the two-meat taco option. The flour tortilla loses its softness quick if not covered in its container. Always wondered why those containers were there. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. Service was quick. However, I was the only table. The place is pretty old (like all else in this area), but looks well maintained. Would definitely revisit when I stay nearby again.

I meet up with my girlfriends once a month at this local spot. Breakfast is always delicious and affordable. Shout out for the migas. We had lunch here once on a Saturday with live music and mariachis came by the table. My critical friend ordered the menudo and declared it "good!" High praise for authenticity.

Pozole was delicious. Service was great due to lack of customers. Atmosphere needs help. Location is subpar. Maybe some cosmetic work and brighter advertisement might help. Great food tho. Ate pozole one day and fish and shrimp soup the next

Food was great and service was exceptional. There is a lady onsite that makes the corn tortillas. They were better than the flour ones which they tell you are store bought. Decor was fun. Wish I lived closer to watch some soccer here!

Dine here alot , food is always good . First impression says alot of a person , and mostly when you're a waiter . Theres this lady thats always chewing gum and seems like she doesn't even fix her hair . Other than that everything's is 10/10 .

The food is good but the service I got from the lady at the drive thru was horrid I asked for 2 tacos with beans she said it would be cheaper to get 3 and I said okay give me three then I remembered to ask if she put beans and she went and fixed it, she didn't ask if I wanted anything else just closed the window and left to fix my order so I asked her if I could get a drink and she got mad and said that she had to fix my order again and slammed the window, at this point I'm upset because she's not asking if I was anything else she's just closing the window and assuming that's all I want. So rude of her I hope she's not like that with everyone else

Food is good. Bought some caldo de res, shit smacked. Cashiers/servers were very amicable, and funny as well. The restaurant is definitely giving mexican, love to see my people doing well and working hard. Love the ambiance. Good music too!

I don't leave reviews unless I'm absolutely impressed or absolutely disappointed. I can honestly say this is the absolute worst Mexican food - if you cannot call it that - I've ever eaten. I should have known by the fact the car park was empty and I was the only customer in the place. Traveling week in and week out, I like to try local establishments. I for sure don't see 5 stars. One because I can't give it zero. Do yourself a favor and give Don Juan's a miss. Plenty of others in and around Austin.

It was nice and clean but i dont see me going again. Its not texas mex but its also not authentic Mexican food

Menu is definitely on the bargain side. Beef was a little fatty but flavorful. Rice is great. The simple salads of iceberg lettuce, tomato and avocado slices are always fresh. The fried chili relleno with ground beef is awesome -- so good that it's kinda keeping me from exploring the rest of the menu. They always place a squeeze bottle of salsa doña (jalapeño salsa) on the table. It's not very hot but is really delicious. You seat yourself and pay at the cash register on the way out.

It's delicious food simple very nice and they have parking Do yourself a favor go here at least one time and you'll keep going back

I had plans to eat at another place (a food truck) prior to going to the airport to catch my departing flight out of Austin but they were not there as they were catering an event. I searched Yelp to find something close by and quick and found Don Juan. Don Juan has its own parking lot and upon entry we were quickly seated. Don Juan has its own custom furniture made for the dining room that happen to be crafted in Arandas, Jalisco (a town that I have relatives in) which I found interesting. Complimentary salsa and warm chips were served. I ordered the Don Juan Burrito lunch special and was able to choose the protein. I chose al pastor. It wasn't long before food arrived at the table. The portions were very generous, a large, cheese-smothered burrito accompanied by refried beans and rice. I ate my entire meal but was not completely satisfied as the pork in my burrito was somewhat charred. I didn't say anything to wait staff because my time was limited and I needed to get food in my stomach. Overall, if I am in Austin again, I would probably choose a different restaurant to eat at if I am looking for Mexican food and trust me, there are dozens to choose from.

Just average for breakfast tacos, but really cheap, which is great. They have a three for $5.25 special, if all three tacos are the same. I did three chorizo and egg on flour. Tortillas were fine. Not too thick and warmed up. Filling was fine. Green salsa has a medium kick. Probably three stars for the food, but a bump for the price.

Portion size is excellent, food isn't a long wait, and the food is amazing. Plus an amazing atmosphere. Calm luh spot

sooooo yummy. my new favorite lunch spot on a weekday. they are fast and never too crowded. really flavorful comfort food. we've had a few team lunches here and it's good for groups. Cute Mexican decor

bad survive did a online order they took my money never gabe me my food and try talking to them but the health department was at the location I see why they taking people money and I keep trying to get my money back I get the run around manger comes tomorrow tomorrow. bad place not good service

The food and hospitality were great. Our server was nice and answered any questions we had. The food was prepared quickly and it was good. Like other reviewers say, don't judge it by what it looks like on the outside. The inside is nice and their food is great!

Such great food with amazing service. Everything was absolutely delicious and we all felt so taken care of. The food was authentic and wonderful, we all left full & happy! Lity was our server and made the experience that much more enjoyable!

We've been returning to Don Juan's for several years. At first we stopped there because it was conveniently close to were we could meet for lunch. Now, it's a destination we choose. We were pleased as always by the food quality, quantity, staff, and price, but overwhelmingly, and why I'm reviewing, is because of the delightful investment in all new dining room furniture and a new hand crafted bar. The restaurateur had all the tables, chairs, booths, bar, and even the baby chairs hand crafted with embroidery and hand painted traditional scenes. A must visit/see.

This place is amazing! Its like Denny's meets great Mexican food! I just bought a house nearby and was hungry and stopped by to give it a shot and man was I totally not disappointed. The pork chop and egg meal was great! The pancakes were just pancakes nothing fancy but Mexican food and pancakes is a killer combo. I came back a few days later and go the Mexican flag enchiladas .. totally awesome. You could tell they were made fresh to order and the sauces were killer. They also have a large selection of Aquas Frescas and Mexican Sodas as well as great Michelada's You want to eat here, be it breakfast or lunch they wont disappoint.

I eat Tex mex every day. This shit MESSED my stomach up for like the entire next day. Don't eat here.

Had the Wednesday special of Enchiladas De Mole and we're pretty good! You are first served with some warm chips and salsa that is also very tasty (the salsa that is). A small but very tasteful atmosphere. Full bar available, but it was lunch time and still had half a day to go! I did get a look at their alcohol menu and it is very Mexican like with large micheladas I would love to try!

Stopped in for lunch with colleagues, and now this will be my go to night time lunch spot. So glad they are open until 11:00 PM. Thanks for the tip JoseC

Y'all! This place is legit for breakfast tacos! Don't let the outside/building fool you! They have a special deal where if you order three breakfast of the same tacos is $4.25. So cheap. I ordered three chorizo and egg and 1 sausage and egg tacos. They were so good! Their salsas green and red were so good. I highly recommend this place Yes they take credit cards

The breakfast here is better than dinner in my opinion -FYI. We have been here a couple of times for breakfast and it's been good each time. You can get a Mexican style breakfast or just eggs and bacon and pancakes. We recently stopped in here for dinner. I ordered the chicken nachos. The chips here are not my favorite so I probably should have ordered something different. The toppings were good though. My husband got the chimichanga and he said was just ok too. I think if we come back for dinner we'll try something else on the menu. We'll definitely be back for breakfast at some point since we live in the area.

Ok I gave them another chance but this time we did dinner. We called in beef enchiladas and fajita nachos. They said ten minutes. We got there and the food was ready and fresh! I asked to add a torta but they were out. BUMMER! I got green sauce on my enchiladas, they were very good and spicy! The beef skirt was tender unlike most which is chewy if not cooked right. Hubbie loved his nachos and so did I. He couldn't finish them so I took care of that for him :) The rice and beans were ok. Not bad, not superb. Just ok. All in all they're a-ok with me.

Good food. Great prices. We go for breakfast most weekends. Our favorites are Mexican Eggs and Ranchero Eggs. They have no problem substituting the papas for extra beans or salad. The green salsa is GOOOOOOOD.

My hungry-bunch wanted Enchiladas,so I stopped in. We ordered. Ground Beef, Cheese Enchiladas in Red Sauce. I ordered Mole Enchiladas with Ground Beef and a large Agua Fresca Tamarindo. It was the Best Enchiladas we have ever encountered in South Austin! The food was great! Perfectly seasoned, salad fresh with guacamole. Beans & Rice were great compliments to entree. The whole vibe was inviting! This is our new place for Mexican Food!

This place used to be La Tapatila and was pretty good. I noticed that they changed name/owners so I decided to try it for lunch. The menu had quite a variety so I took a few minutes to look it over. I ordered a water and the waitress came back with a glass of water and some chips and salsa. The water was just tap water, which wouldn't have been so bad, but they didn't have any ice. The chips were stale. From where I was sitting, I could see behind the counter and they had a big bin of chips sitting underneath a stainless steel table out in the open. Who knows how long the chips have been sitting. I ordered the combination plate and chose beef fajita and al pastor. When the food came out, they forgot the tortillas. By the time they came out the food a cooled down. While the food was edible, it really didn't taste that good. For the price, I won't be going back any time soon.

The service is sometimes, not often though, spotty. Only once did I have to get my food to go. The have a pretty big menu and I think are open for breakfast to, but I've only ever been for lunch I'm in love with their Torta Cubana. It is almost too much for one person. it's so big. And the tastes all melding together... Mm mm good. You get complimentary chips and salsa and it seems the salsa is homemade bc sometimes it's got a good bite and sometimes no.

Great authentic Mexican tacos, tostadas, quesadillas and more. A great small town feel, family owned place.

Hi yelpers! My family and I were around Ben white and were so hungry that we decided to check restaurants around us with yelp! So we found Don Juan not far and we decided to see if those reviews were really as good as they said. Our experience was AWESOME, the waitress came pretty fast and they took care of our order leaving some chips and salsa. Man, when I tried those chips, I knew that this place might be that good! Well, we ordered tacos, huevos rancheros and huevos a la mexicana. Well, I have to tell my wife is very picky with mexican's restaurants and she just loved everything! The kiddos did the same! We are sorry they are not that close to our house... way north of Austin! Well DONE Don Juan!

This is our tradition practically for sundays and sat ams! LOVE the Chilaquiles! The service is quick and the food is always hot & delicious. The chips & salsa are a fun add on and if you are feeling adventurous we love the Chile Relleno as well! The breakfast pancakes are awesome too - hot & fluffy!

We were pleasantly surprised by this place! The food was good and the service was prompt and nice. And breakfast was super inexpensive! There may be some language barriers. A friend asked what the sauces on the table were and the waitress said 'red and green.' Still don't know what they were, but they were good!!!

Best breakfast tacos in S. Austin. We eat breakfast here several days a week. Great friendly service. Salsa is fresh and tasty. Tacos are hot, tasty and large. Very quick service. If you like divy Taco places this one is top notch.

This is my favorite breakfast taco place in Austin!! The green salsa is AMAZING!! And their flour tortilla are to die for. Can never go wrong with a bean and cheese taco!! 10/10 would recommend to a friend.

This place is right by my house so I eat here a couple times a month. The food is decent and cooked to order, and fresh. Prices are decent too. Some of the waitresses can't speak english so they might f**k up your order if they can't understand you and bring you something totally different than what you ordered (unless you speak spanish). The interior is dingy and unimpressive, but more utilitarian with beer signs up on the walls. The people are nice though, and you can order beer here which is a plus in my book. In other words, I recommend it for a divey Mexican restaurant.

Pretty good food. It definitely seemed like a popular place. Migas was ok but chorizo & potato taco was better. Salsa was too spicy but it might have been bc I was hungover....

All I can say is the food here is awesome, and they are very flexible with the orders I would recommend the Don Juan parriada I like to sub pastor instead of the pork chops, this thing is huge!! The parriada for 2 is 2 meals each for my girlfriend and i. I will take pics of this thing so everyone can see.oh yeah the green sauce is my favorite. I eat there all the time

I was looking for a quick place to pick up food, and saw this place has a drive-thru. It is not only inexpensive, but pretty delicious. Their 3 breakfast taco special is so inexpensive. For a while, I picked up food from here at least once a week. But now I live farther away. Even my roommate, who is a very critical with Mexican food, loves this place. Strangely, I've never been inside. Oh and warning, the drive-thru is what you could expect from a hole-in-the-wall.

Happened to be in town and stayed in a hotel nearby. Inexpensive, but the food is good at the price and plentiful. Haven't been to many other Mexican restaurants in the area but I definitely enjoyed the meal.

The agua de melon or guayaba was not fresh. The rice and beans were not good. Did not have a really spicy salsa. When I tried to use a Groupon like certificate from my company, they would not honor it.
