Modern Mexican plates in a historic storefront, with daily specials like Tostada Thursday and Fajita Friday. Called out by Phoenix New Times in its Glendale dining guide and confirmed active via the restaurant’s current site, it’s a reliable spot for enchiladas, street tacos, and margaritas before a stroll downtown.

On June 23rd, they had a one day only special of all entries were $6.23, so we decided to go there. This small little restaurant was packed with customers. I don't think they were prepared for that amount of people. The servers kept their cool and smiles on their faces as they were trying to wait on the tables, deliver the food to the tables, deliver the check and take the payments and clean up the tables for the next customer. I think that they did a pretty good job, under the circumstances 👍 I had a cheese enchilada that wasn't good. It seemed like a thick flour tortilla rolled up with cheese, but not cooked. The rest of the food was fine.

Google
The service & the flavor of the food were good. I ordered the Steak Fajitas, there was too much onion & bell peppers for me. Everything else was great. Thank You 👍

Google
Food was awesome and filling. Portions where spot on. The server Ana was great and very attentive. I'm definitely coming back.

Google
Delicious food. It would be nice if the waitress asked if we wanted refills instead of us asking her for a refill

What an amazing place! Everything was so delicious and fresh! I generally do not care for Mexican food but this place has done an outstanding job!

Google
Servers were nice, probably not the most experienced. Food was great! Definitely a great value if you stick to the daily specials and happy hour menu. Tacos were great, enchiladas were too, the burrito was ok but not as good as my other samplings. I definitely would go a 4th time and try more of the menu.

Google
I’ve been to a lot of Mexican places growing up in Arizona and this place is by far one of the best! The food is exceptional. The chips and salsa are so good. The guac is TO DIE FOR. We come here as a couple and with our kids and it’s always a great experience. The employees are extremely nice and friendly! The restaurant is always clean. And the bathroom is also very clean (especially when I need to change one of my babies) I will be sad one day when I move out of Glendale that I won’t be able to come here anymore because it’s that good!! A must try. You will not be disappointed.

Google
First try and Hubby said pozole was perfect. Loved how the taco was wrapped separately so I wouldn't get soggy. Nice n hot too. Will be back for sure

Yelp
Second time here and it didn't disappoint. Service is always fast even when it's a little crowded. Shout out Ana our waiter, she is great! My wife got the taco bowl and I got the albóndigas. The soup was super flavorful and came with tortillas and rice. Not a fan of the tortillas but other than that, love love love this dish. My wife got the taco bowl for the first time with steak and she really enjoyed what the bowl came with in general. However, the dressing it comes it doesn't really match the flavor of what the bowl has so she was happy to ask for it on the side. We think this dish would shine with a cilantro like dressing instead or a southwestern creamy sauce. The one it comes with taste like thousand island dressing. Otherwise she was very happy with the bowl and added the green salsa which is another yummy thing here. Totally recommend if you are in old downtown Glendale

Yelp
Ok, first time here on a Saturday morning for breakfast around 9:30 and we were the only people here, don't understand it and here is why. My wife read that they have Gallina Pinta caldo and she has never seen it before at a Mexican food restaurant and she grew up with this so we to try it. She said it was "damned good" her words lol. We tried their red beef tamales and they were delicious, I'm picky about masa and these were very good. I had chorizo and eggs and the chorizo was not greasy and was very flavorful. They are served with homemade potatoes and breads which were very good as well. Their "Early Bird" breakfast special is unbeatable. Scrambled eggs, homemade potatoes, pancakes and bacon for only $6.95, yes, I said only $6.95. We need to blow this place up with customers so please spread the word.

Yelp
First timer - yay! First, service was subpar for a sit down restaurant. Based on this alone I would give a 1 star. The food -- was good. 1st basket of chips was overly salty but the replacement was delicious! Salsa was good but the "bowl" was hard to dip with. Little thing but could be better. Don Juan combo was delicious - enchilada and taco were delish!! Would order this again! Carne asada fries were skimpy for the price -- hardly any meat and fries were not very crisp. Would not order again. Red pesole was omg yummy!! Order this on the weekend! So good!! Beef was so tender!! Overall food was good, service was disappointing. Refills were non existent. If in the area I would try again...

Cheryl B.

Yelp
Family friendly, comfortable & Popular environment. Amazing service. Clean. Food is delish, lots of our favorite dishes. Yummmm!

Yelp
Service is good, soups are good relaxing atmosphere. Will be back. Just missing the Guyana Pinta!

Heather R.

Yelp
The Chicken Fajitas were delicious with homemade tortillas. Service was great! We will be back!

Yelp
Best Mexican food in town. My go to is the chile reñeno and enchiladas, but everything my table got looked great.

Yelp
First time at Don Juan's Mexican Grill in Downtown Glendale. What a pleasant surprise! Ordered a cheese quesadilla with green chile strips to share with offspring. Served with a side of guac and sour cream. It was perfectly cooked and very tasty. Complimentary chips with both red and green salsa. The green salsa has onion and celantro and a bit milder. We ordered two red chili burritos, a bean and cheese burrito, and two shredded beef soft shell tacos to go for the rest of the crew. All were very good. The red chili burritos had tender chunks of beef. Sofia was out server and was great. Place was clean and had an open airy dining space. Lots of local folks dining for Sunday lunch. All good here!

Yelp
This spot was so good I had to leave a review, literally everything was delicious and the service was on point. My Daugther is very picky when it comes down to her carne asada and she just loved it here.

Yelp
Walking through Glendale we stumbled on my new favorite Mexican restaurant. It's very small, brightly lit and clean. The service has been great aside from some staff members that were "new" and couldn't answer our questions. The food is absolutely delicious. We've been back three times and have always loved the food. I get the fajitas, my son got the nachos, and even the French fries from my younger sons kids meal were outstanding. My wife's flautas were nice crispy and delicious. Prices are very reasonable and the restaurant is located nestled around lots of little stores and we've enjoyed spending the day around this restaurant. Definitely check it out if you are a fan of Mexican food.

Yelp
Hey guys so I was taking my daughters to the pink boutique wich is two store up from here and they didn't have a bathroom so I was sent here were after explaining my situation they let me use there bathroom. Me and my girls bought a Horchata and some delicious cardne asada fries, rest assure we will be coming back here the pink boutique may have lost a customer but don Juans just got a life time costumer. the two girls made me feel so welcomed the staff was the sweetest and I would come back here a thousand more times this place is so family friendly and perfect for family Friday.. inner night. Such friendly customer service.
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
Stopped for the Horchata. Atmosphere is a little tacky. Too many chairs, too many menu options, which is not always a positive. Ximena, our server was very pleasant, and knew the menu. She sold us on the cow tongue tacos Well, you know I had to try it. You can get 4 different kinds of tacos in one serving. The Pork and Steak tacos were ordinary. The Shrimp taco was good, but the Shrimp wasn't fresh, meaning it was frozen. The Cow Tongue Taco was the Star of the Dish. They seem to have a strong take out presence, and the place began to fill up as we ate. Overall, it was underwhelming, typical of Mexican food for me. I enjoyed the Horchata. They didn't fill the glass with ice.

Yelp
We live really far from this place but we finally made the drive to try to the food and it didn't disappoint all the food was soo good !!!
google avatar

Dan B.

Yelp
Everything we ordered was delicious. Had tacos with lengua, chicken, and machaca that were all tender & flavorful. The tamale was great too. Rice & beans had good flavor too. The decor was bright & modern. Everything was clean, even the bathrooms. Definitely plan to come back.

Yelp
We frequent the downtown Glendale area and tonight, this restaurant wouldn't let my two kids use the restroom unless they bought something. We purchased a water bottle and then the employee didn't give it to her without her having to ask for it. We won't be eating here anymore since the 2 dollar purchase was most important to them over the 100 we spend everyone we came here. Rude. The owner says it's for safety and to avoid damaged restaurant equipment. I call b.s. because they are simply make a profit off of children needing to use a restroom.

Yelp
We originally came down to eat at Cuff but they happened to be closed. It's located in downtown Glendale and a nice cozy spot. Service was friendly and we were served chips and salsa as soon as we sat. We ordered a caldo de pollo and pollo fundido. The food was ready fairly quickly and was nice and hot. The soup had plenty of veggies and 1 chicken drumstick. The broth unfortunately didn't have much flavor. The pollo fundido chicken while it was breast meat didn't have much flavor either. The beans were okay and the rice again not much flavor. Overall it might've just been our taste buds but neither of us were wowed by the food. Still happy to come support a local small business. Come give them a try as a lot others really enjoy it!

Yelp
Great food, my daughters and I went for breakfast one morning and we enjoyed the food! It was a typical busy Saturday morning but everyone was nice and friendly. Would definitely go back!

Claire W.

Yelp
Food was amazing. We got the taco Tuesday special. Only $2 per taco and they were SO good! Also salsas, guac, and chips were great to start with.
google avatar

Yelp
I thought this was pretty darn good Mexican food, without a bunch of salt added, which I appreciate! The spinach dip was really delicious and we almost licked the bowl clean. The deep-fried tacos are packed full of meat and the shell is nice, thin, and crispy. The tamales are impressively large and definitely homemade. Chips and salsa were both good and a nice big bowl of each so you don't have to keep asking for more. The server did a good job and the pricing was fair. We will definitely be back. Tequila was ok, although I asked for and was charged for reposado and it was silver instead, my bad, I drank it anyway.

Yelp
We are a 10-minute walk from DJ's and have frequented it regularly since it opened. The last 3 times we've been there, we've been served by a young lady named Esme. She is perhaps one of the most unfriendly servers we have ever encountered. She doesn't smile, doesn't look us in the eye and never takes time to chat with us, even though it's clear we're repeat customers. We wish we knew what tables Esme served because then we'd find a different table served by the other server, who's always friendly and laughing. While we've always enjoyed DJ's food, Esme and her attitude towards us as customers has now made this place a location we will no longer frequent.

J W.

Yelp
Excellent food & service! I had the carne asada street tacos, hubby had beef enchiladas with beans and rice (snuck a bite of the rice...yum! Fluffy & flavorful.), friends had the chile relleno (she's picky on these & said this one was really good!), & al pastor street tacos. Everyone enjoyed their food. Good prices. Complimentary chips with two salsas (red & green). Both salsas good. Green spicy and addicting! Chips had a nice salt to them. Even on a busy night, host & waitress were great. Clean & bright place. Will be back!

Yelp
Freshly made food coming out hot. Service was fantastic at this family run business. Portions are great too! Highly recommend!

Anthony F.

Yelp
Micheladas... Delicious Food... excellent ....................................................................................didn't think I'd have to write an essay to give a good review but this place is great
google avatar

Y C.

Yelp
basically flavorless chimi. good texture nice crunch. no spice. no flavor. better Mexican food elsewhere in any direction... needs a hot salsa. but. none was offered up so i assume they think it tastes good. far from it... bland! clean, good service, loud noisy seating area needs sound diffusion badly.
google avatar

Brian R.

Yelp
A gem in downtown Glendale. In a town that has Mexican food on practically every corner, this is one to try. The chips and salsa was great along with a decent guacamole. Check them out!

Yelp
Omg...my husband and I are still experiencing tummy issues from last night 12/29 and a bad taste in our mouth after eating (not even finishing) this greasy food made with pure lard! I ordered a caldo de res, which normally cones with rice, limes, and onion cilantro, but nooo we had to pay extra for rice that came in a salsa bin! Then there was no fixings. Then we get charged $4.50 for chips and salsa because it's carryout and seriously the worst oversalted dry chips in a bag with grease seeping thru bag and awful salsas that were not fresh. Lastly, the meat in the caldo was just not clean. We pulled grizzle pieces over and over, but the worst part was the smell. Overpowering scent of old grease in container. Wow just disappointing for the 50 Bucks spent. Will not recommend...

Yelp
My granddaughter and I stopped by for breakfast this morning at Don Juan's. I was looking forward to a homemade Mexican style breakfast. Boy, was I disappointed. My over medium eggs were over cooked and dry, the bacon was under cooked. The best part were the fried potatoes and tortillas . The salsa and chips were horrible, not fresh. Our server was no where to be found. Not once did she check on us to asked if everything was good. That is probably why I didn't have an opportunity to tell her my food was not cooked properly. I can honestly say I will not be making the trip to Glendale to visit Don Juan's anytime soon.

Alonzo M.

Yelp
My family came in and sat for 6 to 10 minutes with no acknowledgment. It wasn't until the hostess realized I was staring at her that she even decided to give us menus. Another family (they happen to be European decent) came in and were acknowledged and got their menus immediately. Maybe it was the server, maybe it's the culture of the restaurant. Regardless, I decided it would be best to find another establishment to eat at.

Yelp
So we were just looking around downtown Glendale, had to use the restroom so bad and we were hungry anyways so we stopped at the first place we saw. Now I will say the staff were all pleasant but that's really all I can say that's positive. Yes they were somewhat busy so we expected to wait a little bit longer for our food. We have never been here before, I ordered the pollo fundido, my husband the tamales and my son a quesadilla. Our food took about 25 mins to get, which again we expected the wait. Pollo fundido had a jalapeño cream cheese and idk what it was about it but I didn't like it at all, the chicken had no flavor and the rice I mean idk how to explain the rice.. I took a bite and said wow like I felt like I took a bite out a garlic clove, but my husband took a bite of his and said this taste like chemicals. His tamales he didn't like at all either... so I hopped on Yelp to check out what others had said and when I seen the high ratings I was quite surprised. Idk if it was a bad cook night or what but we won't be back.

Erik D.

Yelp
Came into this location last night and I was extremely disappointed. The food was bland, there was hair in my food and it was loud. Service was not the best, employees were too busy with their conversation when I tried to flag down my server. Don't even get me started on the agua frescas... Will not return!

Rachel Y.

Yelp
Great food, but service is slow. The restaurant is clean nice decor restrooms very tidy

David C.

Yelp
Went there on a Saturday at 3:30 pm we and another customer were there service was very slow they advertised menudo so I ordered and the waitress came back five minutes later said no menudo disappointed so I ordered cheese enchiladas food was barely warm and they were the worst that I ever had the rice tasted old the only thing that was worth eating were the beans... I would not recommend eating here!
google avatar

Brian S.

Yelp
The food here is good so the place is usually fairly busy. They are good about taking your order quickly and getting you your drinks. They are also good about getting you checked out fairly quick. Only complaint is that we've had problems on multiple visits getting simple appetizers out (like guacamole) before the main meal is served. Hopefully they can figure out the cause for this and get it sorted. Prices are decent, about $13 to $15 for most entrees which include rice and beans. Anyway we keep going back so that should tell you it's better than most!

Katrina H.

Yelp
i came into to this restaurant with full intentions of falling in love with the cuisine, the servers, maybe even become friends with the manage. Upon entering I felt judged, the atmosphere was filled with, should I say, Sun City folks. The service was very quick for how crowed the place was on a Thursday evening. The food was very bland, over cooked cafeteria food. My chimichanga was deep fried almost to a crisp. I tried asking for help but there was a huge language barrie. I was tempted to use google translate. Needless to say, I was disappointed with this restaurant and won't be returning.

Yelp
Cute small business ! Went in for their Friday special! Got the carne Asada fajitas that come with rice and beans for $14! Also got a tasty carne Asada quesadilla and Fruta agua Fresca that was so good! They provide you warm chips and salsas ! Their service is so friendly !

Alexander H.

Yelp
Had the chimichanga plate with both red and green sauce. Both sauces were very flavorful. Their burrito fundido left us both happy as well
google avatar

Wyatt H.

Yelp
Don Juan's is one of our favorite places to visit. The inside is always really clean and each server has been attentive and friendly. I also have never had a bad thing here; their food is my favorite!
google avatar

Scott W.

Yelp
I've now been 3 times spread over several months. First a Chimichanga and it was filling. Next up was Pozole and finished off with a chicken enchilada combo including rice and beans. All 3 lunches included complimentary chips and salsa. Food was OK. I wasn't a fan of their Pozole and the chicken in the enchiladas was dry so I made sure I had enchilada sauce in every bite Nothing out of the ordinary that would set it apart. Pricing was reasonable. Service was good. Where it is located makes it handy for the office crowd and the weekend crowd. The space is kept clean and it is well lit. It is a strong 3 (3.5)

Brandon P.

Yelp
Taco Tuesday here is great! 2 dollar tacos full of flavor and the kitchen staff isn't stingy with ingredients. Will definitely be coming back. It has a nice ambiance that is welcoming and relaxing. Bottled cokes are always a win.
google avatar

Brian N.

Yelp
Found this little Mexican restaurant in downtown Glendale. Nicely decorated and very clean inside. I ordered the Friday special which was steak fajitas. Rest of family ordered the chicken enchiladas and the Don Juan combo which was cheese enchilada and shredded beef taco. The fajitas were delicious! Very tasty and well cooked with onions and peppers. I guess the other dishes were "nothing special" and "ok". I would come visit this place again but don't think the family would join me. Lol.

Yelp
I'm not a big fan of Mexican Food but I came here many times with a bunch of friends. They absolutely love the place. The location was always clean, always well kept and taken care of. The staff is always happy and friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. Good portions for the price. Their rice is good, the meat in the food, taste like real beef. Their chips that they give out free of charge decent! Definitely worth the free price! I had tried many of their items prior to writing this review. The carne burrito was huge, I myself could not finish it since it was so huge. The quality of the ingredients and the meat, quite decent. The beef is a little over done in my opinion, but it's all good. I've tried their enchiladas, not bad at all. No complains on that one. Their cheese quesadilla was pretty good, a little oily but good. And I had also tried a soup, totally forgot the name of it. It had veggies and a big piece of chicken thigh in there. Bone and all!! Amazing! That's how you know it's real chicken with the bone intact...and not that impossible fake chicken meat garbage! Excellent indeed! Very good soup. You won't regret! Okay time for the real stuff. The loo. Always clean and well kept. Always stocked with toilet paper and supplies. A good loo, like the wood. The urinal way too close to the sink, but it's okay most guys have excellent aim! Overall excellent experiences, great place, so be sure to swing by and give them a try! Ohh yeah, they have an excellent Taco Tuesday!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Tried Don Jon's for the first time last night. Restaurant is new, bright, vibrant and clean. Staff was friendly and attentive while setting up their Christmas tree and decorations. It was tostadas Thursday, my wife's fave! I had a green chili chimichanga w/rice and beans and our third wheel had the flautas. We finished off with a bottle of Coke, and for dessert a vanilla churro ice cream. We took a couple To Go menus and went home completely satisfied. We will most certainly be back! Welcome to the neighborhood Don Juan's!
google avatar

Max C.

Yelp
Couldn't find one negative thing about Don Juan's if I tried!! All-around incredible: food, service, drinks, atmosphere. Portions are extremely generous with every component of the food being of the utmost quality. This will for sure be a regular spot.
google avatar

Don E.

Yelp
Very clean, great ambiance, the smell of food coming from the kitchen makes it hard to decide what to choose. Tonight is fajitas night!!!! They were absolutely delicious. We will be back.
google avatar

Erick B.

Yelp
The food was really good but the prices are crazy high and they don't have any lunch special pricing although acourse they aren't required to lol. The portions were good. I had the bean and cheese chimichanga with rice and beans. However, spending $21 which included a beverage and $5 tip is way too much for one person. I will visit again (Don't know when lol) just because the food is good and I like supporting small business especially where I grew up but I will skip the beverage and ask for water instead and I will split the meal with my wife or son because the portions are good size. Don't let my review sway you not to visit this establishment because the food is really good it's just not in my budget to visit frequently. Take Care!

Brian G.

Yelp
Fantastic! Everything new, beautifully decorated. The owners routinely checked in on us, so proud of their new place. We had house margaritas which were made from real juices, not the usual sugar syrup. Next we had guacamole which came up fast despite and was freshly made. The carne asada and pastor tacos were delicious and came with a lot of meat and a full plate of side rice and beans. We also had chili rellenos, also great. Everything, including bathrooms was sparkling clean. Food was delicious and service was so welcoming. We're already excited to return.

Jacquelyn B.

Yelp
The service was friendly and nice. The food was really good but I've got to tell you the best thing here are there refried beans I have never had beans so good as I had at Don Juan's. Pretty much everything on the menu is going to be good but order a side of refried beans to really make it delicious. I give it five stars

Daniel A. L.

Yelp
After a nice stroll thru the Glendale Chocolate Affair , we were in need of some sustenance and late breakfast/lunch . Downtown Glendale has a few options of food , and Don Juan's was on the horizon for our next culinarily endeavors . Being early spring , a nice reprieve from the warm air into indoor A/C would be welcoming to the weary walkers . Thru the door , there was no ventilation or air moving . Not a big deal , but we will see how long we can manage til the fans were to be turned on for sufficient ventilation for our party Walk in seat yourself, we had a party of 8 , so we took 2 tables . After a few minutes menus arrived , and then chips and salsa water and some other beverages. Order was taken , but , most unfortunately, the other table in our party had not received their water or other beverages. Again , not a huge deal . Reminded staff of issue , and could they please turn on fans . As we waited for our orders , which were not big orders by any means , other patrons that had been in after us and had been seated after us were being served their respective meals and eating . My wife and child had noticed this , and being almost seated for an HOUR , we still had not been served our meals . Understanding that each section has meals prepared in such an order as to section , this could have been handled much better . Being as patient as we could be , it was time to leave Don Juan's and head across the street to subway where that is another yelp review all together in itself! Maybe Don Juan's employees Don Juan any future business from me or my family again .

Yelp
So this was my second time eating at Don Juans and the experience was way above my expectations. The service was fast the server's are very attentive and most of all the food was really great!
