Don Pollon Food Truck Tacos, Bbq Ribs & Birria

Google
Tacos were bomb. I usually get regular Asada Tacos with onions and cilantro. This usually tells me how good a place is. The meat was fresh, tender, and flavorful. The red hot sauce was a good spice and their green sauce was flavorful. The only bad thing was that they are on a pretty busy road. A place visited by Mark Wiens and I got to say, I highly recommend this place.

Google
We had to look for street parking and walk about a block over to the food truck. It was a 1.5 hour wait at 2:12PM on a Saturday. It was our first time so we had some questions about the menu before ordering. We ordered two cacahuate ribs, two bone marrow, and one costila taco. I thought we ordered the whole bone marrow but we just got bone marrow added to our tacos. We asked the cashier about it. He showed us the receipt and told us we had ordered the wrong thing even though we asked questions before ordering. The ribs weren’t fall off the bone but the spicy peanut flavor was good. The tacos were pretty heavy. Personally, we don’t think it was worth the 1.5 hour wait.

Google
Don Pollon! The ribs...YES! The big bone with bone marrow...YES! You need to take a trip to Los Angeles, if for nothing else but to eat at Don Pollon! We had the ribs with dry rub and the adobo and peanut success on the side. I preferred the ribs without any side sauce. The bone marrow plate is impressive. You can get about 5 tacos per plate so I would order one person if that's the only thing you're choosing. I would stick with a plate of 3 ribs and a bone marrow plate for 2 people. We'll be back!

Carlos E.

Google
The lady at the front taking orders was rude made faces when I asked for my order. I didn't get any as they said it is an hour wait and it will be 30 for half a rack!!!! I can go elsewhere get it for half the price for a full rack and be out in 5 minutes. I don't know what's going on also but it seems as if they only have ribs nowadays so no more bone marrow none of that. Mejor que lo cierren la neta. La doña amargada combinado con El espero de la comida nomas no. Una hora para unas costillas mejor se ubiera quedado en su casa y ya van 2 veces que pasa esto

David P.

Google
Ordered some rib tacos and Asada tacos. The Tortillas we’re good for being homemade. The ribs could've been better for waiting for 40+ minutes. The Asada was dry. All the tacos given were cold and weren’t that great. For the price and wait and no parking I’d say it wasn’t worth it.

Julie M.

Google
First time here and we will be back. I had the huarache con pollo. The chicken was really good, Super tasty. My feedback on this is that the onion is chopped in BIG pieces so it’s not a subtle onion flavor. I would order without onions next time. Salsas are green or red and the flavors were good. My husband had a taco “Campechana” which we learned is a combination of meats. He said it was good. The horchata has mediocre so we wouldn’t be ordering that in the future. That was the only agua they offered. It would be great if there were more to choose from. Will come back for the bar b q next time

TeeTee R.

Google
I can’t say no to good quesabirria. Very tasty, flavorful meat with just the right amount of cheese. It's perfect for those late night cravings.

Michael A.

Google
The best ribs I had in last time. Super delicious. Rice and Macaroni could be much better but you anyway not going for the rice to this place.

Yelp
Let's TACO bout one of the most popular birria spots in LA! Not gonna lie, most Mexican food in West LA tends to be extremely sanitized and Americanized, unless you're getting it off a street stall. I was so lucky that my apartment complex hired Don Pollon to cater from their food truck, and I was able to try out their quesabirria tacos. All the tacos were soaked in a tasty (and not oily!) consome, and contained a generous, even layer of beef and cheese. My quesabirria combo also came with rice and beans (which were a bit bland), and cilantro, onions and a spicy orange salsa. Service was extremely efficient and quick, and even with long lines, I received my order within 3 minutes. Unfortunately, they had a limited menu so I couldn't try their famous bone marrow tacos, but if you're lucky enough to be near them in East LA, I definitely recommend making a pit stop!

Yelp
Bruh I am calling Cap on majority of these 1 Stars. A bad experience is a bad experience, I get that. But the food? The food here has always been fire. Yes its hyped, but its legit. Lets start with the must haves if you never been. The Bone Marrow Taco. You can get the plate, but unless its for sharing its overkill. Bone Marrow Taco is massive by itself, generous portion of the bone marrow on top of your choice of meat with a nopal(grilled cactius) salsa and acocado omgeee. Dont sleep on the ribs. These huge ribs are delicious. They have several sauces to pick from, sauces are put on after they are grilled. Also had a Tlacoyo, that was delicious too. Its like a thicker tortilla masa, with a bunch of toppings including nopal and avocado. I feel like this foos truck can have like 4 different food trucks with all the delicious items they sell. Pro-Tip: Get the ribs, but I suggest sharing so you dont miss out and sampe a few. Owner said their peanut sauce rubs are some of the most requested when they cater. Its nutty and spicy, kind of like spring rolls sauce but with a kick. I tried the mango habanero and it was fire. Its pricey, but the food is worth it. I usually come on weekdays to avoid long lines. Parking sucks, its basically look for closest street prking available.

Yelp
Very good place to grub some Mexican style BbQ lil bit pricey but very good I definitely recommend it if you're in the area

Yelp
Given all the hype on IG my friend and I decided to give it a try. We went earlier at 11 am given the reviews of long lines, maybe that was the trick, but we really didn't have to wait. The lady taking orders was helpful when I asked for recommendations. The menu on the side of the truck is a bit confusing the way it's laid out as is pricing. All I know is my carne asada taco with marrow + mulita + coke was $20. Also I should add I had limited meat options, perhaps it because we went early. Things tried: 1. Carne asada taco with marrow - i wanted to love this taco, but it was just ok. It was a tad hard to taste the marrow with everything on the taco. 2. Carne asada mulita - I preferred this to the taco. Easier to eat and the cheesiness made it good. 3. Bbq rib- I mooched off my friend and tried a rib. I wasn't expecting much, so was surprised when they were super juicy and tasty. All in all I'm glad I tried it, but maybe not my favorite taco place.

Yelp
This place has a strong social media presence and I had been wanting to go try it for a long time. Finally went last Saturday. There was a long line. They have 2 cashiers taking orders, lots of people in the truck cooking, and another guy at the grill. I would say my wait time in line and to get order was about 30 min altogether. Not bad. (There is a michelada stand next door, so I think that keeps all of the customers here happy). I wanted to try the tlacoyos, buy they were sold out. So I ordered 2 pastor and 2 asada tacos. I only tried the red salsa. The food was good. The only issue, IMO the carne asada was very tough.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
Finally made it to this place. I cannot even describe how good the food is. Very nice lady taking your orders. She even explained what you'll get. Sometimes the wild wild Los Angeles does have its perks. This is one of them

Yelp
Taco truck cooking ribs and bone marrow? I'm there! We came around 4:30pm for a quick in between meal to try out some ribs and bone marrow taco. The truck is located on a busy street and not much parking, but it's worth the hassle. There are a few trucks on the street, but it's hard to miss a big grill, just follow your nose! There was a short line to order, but it took awhile for our food to come. There is a small table against the wall as well as a ledge on the taco truck for people to eat. The food grilling smelled sooooo good. Ribs come in 2, 3, or 5 pieces and we decided to get 3 pieces. It is $17 and it comes with 2 sides, we opted for rice and macaroni salad. We also ordered a bone marrow taco with carne asada and a carne asada taco. There are radishes, cucumbers, and salsa on the truck that you get. We waited awhile for our food, but it's likely because we were waiting for the bone marrow and ribs to be done. I think the ribs took longer because the bone marrow was no longer a meaty fatty goodness. The bone marrow taco is already taken out of the bone for you, which is nice, but next time, I think I'll order the bone marrow itself, so I can scoop it out myself and it'll likely keep it hot longer too. The bone marrow made the taco a little fattier/juicy, but that's about it. The carne asada taco was a little dry. Now the star is the RIBS! OMG it was so delicious! It was soft on the rib side, but very tough on the edges. I believe they cut the rib and continue grilling it, so each rib has a nice crunchy outside that is SO GOOD! The mango habenaro sauce complemented the ribs and is finger licking good. The ribs have a nice char and smokiness. Can't wait to come back for some more ribs!

Yelp
Drove out here from Ontario, believing the hype. Was it worth it? No. My husband tried an asada taco with bone marrow and was deeply disappointed; just made it greasy. It was definitely not a $10 taco. We got a half a rack of ribs since they were out of chicken. The sides of rice smelt like patas sudadas . The ribs were dry and flavorless (asked for sauce on the side, because what better way to judge the flavor). Sincerely, we are over these tik tok/IG hyped food spots y'all want some delicious food? Head into the IE for JM el sinoalense chicken & ribs, because that's the true standard. We will not be back, nor do we recommend this spot.

Dulce L.

Yelp
The lady recommended the bone marrow plate with meat, guacamole and tortillas. It was delicious we also tried the consomé and it had so much meat. The service was great, they're very attentive. There's parking on the street, it's on the Main Blvd. Atlantic Will come back to try the ribs, great food and prices.

Yelp
Came here because of a post I saw on an IG food page and I was disappointed. NOT WORTH the money (and time in my case) for the food. If you live in the area you can check it out, maybe you'll have a different experience. I came later in the day (about 630/7p) and there were only a handful of people (maybe 3-5) ahead of me, some of which had already ordered, but it still took about 30min to get my food. I ordered 5 tacos (2 soft birria, 1 costillas, 1 asada, & 1 asada with bone marrow) and my total came out to just under $22. For about $4/taco I was expecting some of the best I've had. The asada was over cooked and dry. Sure I like a bit of burnt pieces but this was mostly dry & flavorless. The bone marrow on one of them was good but as mentioned the rest of the meat wasn't the best. The birria was also in the drier side and not great as well. I'd have to say the best one (and it wasn't all that great) was the costillas. Wouldn't go back and not highly recommended IMO.

Yelp
I went to check out the bone marrow tacos, really good!! That been said I don't know how to rate this guys since they are a food truck in the middle of an area that is practically deserted. They are ok but let me warn you. If you really crave for the bone marrow tacos and that's the only thing you will be eating every single taco is $8.00!! Yes they are big and well served but it's 8 DLLs. And for a reason. I leave this review at that since I didn't try more items for their menu. In general it's ok

Yelp
The worst place you can eat at, I almost got food poisoned. I try to giving my business to small business and lunch trucks as some of this are very good. This place says they always have chicken on the grill and ribs, trust me, they don't and what ever they have is nasty. And they don't look clean. Stay away from this place

Yelp
I have been wanting to try Don Pollon for a while since following them on IG. Finally, the stars and planets were aligned for a visit. After cruising Whittier Blvd all the way from the 6th street bridge for nostalgic reasons, I arrived at DP. I was inspired because I had just seen the play, "Whittier Blvd," and it was a firme' reminder to reconnect with my East LA roots and early childhood. Orale' I found street parking nearby and then I ordered the Carne Asada, Al Pastor and the Birria tacos. DP has an extensive menu of meat options, and they look and smell so good that I wanted to try all of them. I was tempted, trust me. hehehe The customer service was excellent, friendly and attentive. The cooks were nice too. After ordering, I was given a number and waited until it was called, which was about 5 minutes. When the tacos were ready, I noticed the tortillas were handmade and perfectly crafted. The meat portions were generous and expertly cooked. The salsa and extras all worked well together. The tacos were a friendly reminder of my East LA upbringing and the special times of a grateful soul. The tacos at Don Pollon are really good and tasty. They were the perfect choice for my trip down memory lane. I am looking forward to my second visit and sampling more of their menu options.

Yelp
The food here is very unique! They have a little bit of everything relating to bbq. Look on their instagram to get a preview of their delicious food! I highly recommend the bbq and the ribs. They offer over 6 different seasonings!
google avatar

Pedro V.

Yelp
Found this place thanks to Instagram and let me tell you it did not disappoint. It's a food truck with table and chairs set up to eat at. The meats are cooked over fire in a huge tow behind grill. I had the rib plate it came with my choice of sauce. I also had the bone marrow and this was perfect. Spread it on a tortilla with a little of the rib meat salsa and it was out of this world. Cant wait to try it again
google avatar

Yelp
Found this black plastic on my rice idk what this is but these foos better do something bout this shit. I had this in my mouth until I noticed something almost breaking my teeth off. I could've chocked on this!!!
google avatar

Elena H.

Yelp
Lacks customer service. Drove about an hour to try out their wings but when I got there they said they did not have anymore wings (even though I had already paid for them). I was annoyed because a simple call to let me know they were out of wings would've been nice... but no they waited till I got there so forcefully I had to get something else. AT LEAST MAKE THE WINGS UNAVAILABLE in the online order portal so I don't choose them! Food is 3/5, service 2/5, will most likely not come again. Their tiktok page is too overhyped for the quality & service of food.
google avatar

Quoc N.

Yelp
Absolutely love this taco truck! The bone marrow w/pork ribs taco was delicious! Seating is limited, so bring your own chairs and table.
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
The best birria tacos I've ever had and the peanut ribs were incredible!! The staff was friendly and I'll definitely be back! So delicious
google avatar

Mariana M.

Yelp
Nothing compared to what they try to be on social media. The person taking orders is extremely rude even though they are charging 50$ for ribs and tacos. They only have chicken on the weekend even though their name is "Don pollon". Saw the people eating there have grilled onions on their plate, so when i went to grab my order I asked for grilled onions. They looked at me like I was speaking Mandarin or something? He asked the guy next to him as if he isn't seeing what's available in the little truck he works out of all day. Process to act like he doesn't know if they have any?? I guess they have something against people asking for grilled onions. I walked away and took my 5$ tip back out of the tip jar. The tacos were so dry and the ribs had no flavor. Was looking forward to to the chicken but will not be coming back.

Scott S.

Yelp
Food truck in ELA with Santa Maria style BBQ. After I saw the line down the street, I had to try it. I had the ribs with BBQ sauce and it left me wanting to go back. The sauce was stupendous and it had that great charcoal flavor. Not as tender as a smoked rib.
google avatar

K K.

Yelp
***35 minutes wait for 2 Tacos*** TLDR: Not just a horrible wait time, but owner/operators were rude when asking about order wait time. To simply put it, they said "If you want fast food, fast food is across the street, this is not fast food." Pulled up at approximately 8PM on a Wednesday night. There were 2 people ahead of me in line, and i asked about the Rib Tacos, which they stated weren't going to be ready until another 40minutes if I want to wait for that. I asked if the bone marrow is ready now and he said yes. After approximately 20minute wait in this 48 degrees + wind, I checked up on my order and they said "they're making it now." At the 30 minute mark. I asked if orders normally take this long. The same guy stated that there were two large orders ahead of me and said "If you want fast food, it's across the street. This is not fast food." In no way i was expecting fast food speed, this is not even restaurant speed! I wish the owner/operators would chill for a second instead of being so rude to customers who were waiting in line. At least give me a heads up for the wait time for the (2) tacos so I could wait in my car. I wish I glanced over the reviews and see that others have waited 1.5 hours or more for this. Definitely not worth the wait and definitely won't be coming back. I'll spend my money at Tacos Don Cuco (nearby), Villas Tacos, Sonoratown, Birria Gonzalez, and just about any place before coming back here again.
google avatar

Jorge G.

Yelp
My Don Pollon visit came with big hype after sending their business be highlighted on Instagram. Obviously a taco truck serving ribs and bone marrow on tacos was a unique venture. While I opted out of the bone marrow offerings, we did get some quesadillas and ribs. I got the asada quesadilla with the habanero wings. Both items were solid but nothing out of this world good. The quesadilla had good flavor and the salsa wasn't very hot. While I did enjoy the ribs, at $6 per rib, it's a hefty price to pay. Nearly sixty dollars for a taco truck. Service was a bit slow but it was a Saturday evening before the night crowd showed up. They are located on Atlantic so you gotta look for street parking. And at least they have a few chairs out for people to eat at. While it may not have met my mentally lofty expectations, it was a good experience and I will want to come back and try other items on their menu. Til next time

Joanna G.

Yelp
Que ricos tacos me encantan los de costillas nomas de acordarme se me hace agua la boca el señor muy amable servicio rápido.
google avatar

Margie S.

Yelp
Had their tacos, birria and quesadilla. The corn tortillas tasted homemade and were delicious. All the food was really good and their green salsa was not too spicy and had good flavor. The red one was a little too spicy for me but my son loved it. We went on a weekday and there weren't a lot of people waiting for their food but we still had to wait about 30 min. If we ordered ribs it probably would have taken an hour! BBQ chicken is only on weekends. Pick a day you have nothing planned because the wait is pretty long. Can't imagine how it is on the weekend! Would recommend giving it a try. Price for 9 tacos (3/order), birria plate and chicken quesadilla was about $40.

Luis M.

Yelp
Not worth the hype to be honest , had the bone marrow, served cold with a bunch of onion. I wouldn't recommend it ... not fully disappointed I wanted to try it , I just wouldn't come back.
google avatar

Cesar C.

Yelp
This is a true roach coach. Eating & ordering area was dirty We ordered the pescuesos de pollo (chicken necks) they were salty & just in a plastic bag unwrapped & at $12 per order no tortillas. Just the pescuesos in the bag. The most horrible experience at a food truck. STAY AWAY!!! I will be sharing this review w/everyone on all my social media's.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
I don't know what to say.... If you haven't stopped by to try any of the following: Tacos, Costillas, Chicken, Bone marrow, or My Favorite the Birriaquilis then what are you waiting for!!! Prices are super cheap compared to lots of places and the flavors are spot on!! I will say they're not your average food truck!!
google avatar

Yelp
I really love finding spots that stand out . This is a great little gem in East LA . The make ribs , chicken and tacos all cooked with wood so every bite is flavorful. We bought chicken ribs and tacos of course wanted to try a bit of everything. As soon as we got home our teenage son went for the chicken needless to say we should of bought two whole chickens instead of one. The meat was not dry at all it was so flavorful and juicy with a spicy exterior . The ribs are again soft and tender very different flavors they offer BBQ, peanut flavor sauce and adobo . Finally the tacos meat is also cooked on the wood pit and so good. My only advice is if you want a full rack of ribs you will have to wait since they sellout fast.

Fender B.

Yelp
Went today 2024 chz of the hype those people posting on isnta such a lie, I love trying new stuff so the bone morrow with Carne it was i ordered and honestly the bone taste pure great no flavor really and the Carne was tuff to honly good thing was the roasted onions if I could this a zero I would

Karina S.

Yelp
We found this spot through instagram and it looked delicious so we decided to go try it out. Drove from woodland Hills to East LA on a friday night took us about 1 hour 1/2 to get there. Luckily for us when we got there, there was only 1 guy in line. The taco was delicous but it was smaller than my hand. The birria was very good. The tlacoyo de chorizo woyld have been better had I ordered it with a different meat. The food is good and the prices are good. The service was a bit slow but the good thing is they told us that when we ordered. I would not go again only because it is too far for me. But if im ever in the neigborhood i will definitley stop by.

Yelp
This place is filthy nasty!!! Flys all over the place. Dirty surfaces.... Even the floor is disgusting. Trash all over the ground. People get upset about All the rules and regulations but visit this place and ask yourself why these are essential. Eating here is like eating at a landfill!!!! I came across the street and it's a day and night difference in presentation. Health department hope you listening

Yelp
I went on weekend because they have big grill barbecue. I ate bone marrow and bbq beef. It is very delicious. I'll be back again definitely.
google avatar

Mitali P.

Yelp
Waited 1hr in the line, and 1hr 40mins for our food. The bone marrow plate was such a disappointment. For two plates we got two pieces of bones with some onions and cilantro - you couldn't scoop out even one spoon of bone marrow from both pieces combined. Average tacos, ribs overcooked - definitely not worth waiting 3 hrs for. Adobo sauce was bad. Will not be visiting again.
google avatar

Art G.

Yelp
So I fell for the social media videos too. Saw one of those cool videos with the grill and bone marrow, prices are way more than announced online, literally twice as much. Food was pretty mid too definitely not worth the price. Save your money and go somewhere else.
google avatar

Evette R.

Yelp
Oh, man this was bomb dot com. Every bite had extremely flavorful and made you do the happy dance. If you're in the east LA check them out. On weekends they grill chicken and sausage outside.we went during the week and it was busy so I can imagine on a weekend.

Yelp
Tender ribs... street parking only. 1/2 rack was $19 w/out sides. Good size ribs, nice flavor. Sauce (habanero) sweet with a decent hint of heat.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
Food was phenomenal! I've had Mexican food in Texas, nor cal, so cal, Mexico... this place stood out. Had the bone marrow with s side of carne asada. One of the best Mexican meals I've ever had. Tortillas were amazing. Surprised at the ratings, must try in my book.
google avatar

Randolph K.

Yelp
The BBQ was absolutely TERRIFIC!! The ribs are juicy full of Smokey flavor and the Bone Marrow tacos best ever!! GREAT EXPERIENCE
google avatar

Cynthia B.

Yelp
Ordered their ribs with rice, frijoles puercos and ensalada de coditos. Their ribs were not the best. The rice was dry and old. I waited about 30 minutes for my order and I was disappointed after trying it. Their tacos were slightly better though so that made up for it. The tortillas are hechas a mano and the guacamole reminded me of tacos from Tijuana. If you want ribs, go anywhere else.

Yelp
I kept saying this place on Instagram so I started to follow them. The staff is super friendly and doesn't take very long to get your food. I would highly recommend everybody trying them.

Food was not fully cooked. Service was really slow. Took 90 mins to get my order which was small

Yelp
It was my first time there...I read great reviews and was excited to try. Drive 20 minutes out. Ribs were good but they forgot the sauces and the first thing the cashier said was "we are known for our sauces". the also ran out of rice, gave me double beans, which were bland. My mistake for not checking the order but I assumed they wouldn't forget the best part of the order (sauces).

Yelp
Arrived here late on a Sunday. I order one bone marrow, three ribs, and six tacos dorados con consume. The BBQ sauce and Mango Habinero ribs were amazing, the meat was a very good quality. I wish the mango habinero sauce was spicey but it was sweet and tasty nevertheless. The birria tacos corn tortillas were fresh and crispy. Consume was light and not as thick as I'm used to but full of flavor good as well. Overall I enjoyed this place and would come back again.

Yelp
Amazing service amazing food. The ribs were so freaking good, we got adobo flavor. Bone marrow taco was huge I could've probably made a second one of I had another tortilla.
