Google
a rich and memorable contemporary mexican culinary experience. the food was packed with flavors and the presentation was like artworks. the surf and turf taco was very flavored. the mushroom taco - personally i did not like the texture and the accompanying alcohol (tasted like chinese medicine). the entrees were both good! the black shrimp was perfectly smoky and the rice was just one of the best rices i’ve had! the fish was flavorless and dry but the avocado risotto was very good although a bit too salted. the churro was very heavy with the caramel and chocolate sauces in a good way. lastly, the waiters boxed us into a 18% or 20% tip when they could have asked “how much would you like to tip”. it felt like a dishonest practice and gave us a moment of yuck. also the music choice by the live performer / restaurant was pretty bad. the experience could have been better with mexican songs instead of trashy / generic american pop.

Don Sanchez delivers a memorable dining experience in San Jose del Cabo. The service is warm and attentive, with a team clearly trained to care for every detail, and the chef sends out thoughtful compliments from the kitchen that add a personal touch. The presentation of each dish is beautiful, with colorful, well-composed plates that show respect for the ingredients. The oysters and fish tartare were fresh and bright, and the seafood mains arrived artfully plated, balancing local flavors with refined techniques. The dessert was a highlight, both visually and in taste, finishing the evening on a light, elegant note.

Google
Absolutely hands down one of the best dining experiences and meals I’ve ever had, especially for the price. From atmosphere to our waiters Josè and David, everything was phenomenal. The flavors and presentation were outstanding. Just stop thinking about it and go, you won’t be disappointed.

Google
Wow! Possibly the best food I’ve had, and I travel a lot. Very frag, very local, amazing and informed service. Beautiful venue, incredible Mexican wine, just fabulous all the way around!

Google
Don Sanchez in San Jose Los Cabos provided an incredible dining experience from start to finish. The atmosphere was vibrant and inviting, perfectly setting the stage for a memorable meal. The food was absolutely delicious—each dish crafted with flavor and finesse. The service was exceptional—attentive, friendly, and professional. Overall, it was a phenomenal experience that I highly recommend to anyone looking for a top-quality restaurant in the area. Can't wait to return!

Google
Excellent service. The food is exquisite. We tried this restaurant last year and we're looking forward to return during our latest stay. Glad to see familiar faces on the staff. Thank you again for an enjoyable experience

Google
Was highly recommended, beautiful atmosphere, nice service from most staff. Primary service person did not know the menu well when we asked him to describe couple of things. My wife’s octopus was great . My daughter and I each had brisket with risotto, sadly too salty to even eat. My wife was surprised by this because I usually salt my food a lot! A friend was at another table , had same thing and also didn’t eat hers. Politely mentioned to waiter and didn’t even get a response . Nobody cared in the least that nobody was able to eat it. Very expensive , 20 dollars for two tiny appetizer tacos. I would eat here again but a few details need to be sorted. Nice presentation and people overall

Google
Our meals, drinks, atmosphere and dining experience were life changing. From the moment we walked in until the time we left, we were given AMAZING Service!!! The beef and chicken prepared in their wood fire stone oven were beyond words, not to mention the presentation and the hobinaro margaritas, seriouslt The Best Margaritas in San Jose Del Cabo, unlike the others that claim to be the best. Excellent dining experience, you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
Truly one of the best meals I've ever had, ever. I mean it. To me, it was better (and cheaper) than Pujol in Mexico City -- keep in mind I'm plant based so reviews and experiences are based on that. Wow this place is stunning. The ambiance and decor is so aesthetically pleasing, the live music, the outdoors (allows you to see beautiful sunsets)... amazing. The food!!! I cannot say enough about the award winning vegan tacos. The presentation, the unique flavor, the unique style of pineapple as tortillas - you must get this. It's very clear why it won an award. Also ordered the Papazul and the cauliflower which were both phenomenal and big portions. Drinks were fantastic and the service from the staff was exceptional. It's clear they love the food just as much as you will when you leave.

Yelp
We had an amazing dinner at Don Sanchez. Our servers, Santiago and Yuer (?), were both such a delight to have. They made us feel welcome and offered detailed descriptions of the dishes. The food was excellent and the ambiance was very captivating. Choose this restaurant! Cheers & Aloha, Ala

Yelp
From the entrance to sitting down the experience just keeps getting better. Live music, indoor/outdoor seating with a beautiful ambiance. The service was on top of every course and kept making sure we had clean plates and utensils. Ambiance, service and food were all exceptional. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
If I could I would give more than 5 stars!!! Amazing ambiance under the stars- great service who understands the nuances of the mazing food being served. We were there for an event so the menu was set but we got to try all their greatest dishes. We started with a tuna tartare and these little hibiscus taquitos. The fresh made bread had the most amazing char flavor with Smokey butter. The crus cheese salad was a work of art in presentation and flavor! The risotto with mushrooms was so good we ordered extra! The beef was so tender! The torabata was the least fav dish- crusted in potato it was just a drier less flavorful fish (also with a lot of controversy surrounding it. They use farm raised here! IYKYK). The star was the roasted pork with Smokey potatoes! Wow!!! Desserts were also amazing- churros, a chocolate cake, vegan cheesecake (my fav cause not too sweet) and a pavlova that had the flavors of a banana split! Fav place to go

Yelp
We had a nice dinner here last night, food was wonderful and ambience was great. Love music and beautiful surroundings. We had oysters, pork shank, and a wonderful table made Caesar salad. The wait staff was excellent very knowledgeable 10/10

Yelp
It was me and my gfs' last night in Cabo and we didn't expect much from Don Sanchez but wow they exceeded all of our expectations. It has a very unassuming entrance but once you walk in, it feels like you walked into another world. The open air property and lighting ambience was very relaxing and romantic. The food and service were phenomenal. I mean we ate at more expensive places in the beginning of our trip but this place exceeded all of the fancier places we've been too. From the appetizers to the main entree and even the bread...definitely one of the best dining experiences I've ever had.

Yelp
Elegant. Simple. Delicious! Would gladly go back next time I'm in San Jose Del Cabo.

Yelp
Phenomenal food and service! We shared the seasonal salad, which was full of fresh greens, pears, apples, beets. Then we had the surf & turf taco, blackened shrimp, and tikin-xic fish; all were delicious. The bread and flavored butters served with entrees are heaven. For dessert, we shared the churros with chocolate sauce and caramel sauce-perfect! Manuel was a helpful and attentive server. The setting is beautiful and relaxing. A meal at Don Sanchez is an experience.

Yelp
The atmosphere was absolutely stunning not one detail left undone. The little coat tree next to the table was a nice addition for me to put my jacket and purse. The drinks and the glasses they came in were amazing and unique. The food was delicious and made you feel like you were at a Michelin star restaurant. There were servers standing by waiting to attend to all of your needs. There was a beautiful live music singer to round out the evening and experience. I had the mushroom tacos, which were delicious. The octopus ceviche also delicious. The bread with smoked. Butter was a culinary delight. I had the blackened shrimp which I was a little disappointed as I felt like the shrimp was more charred than seasoned so quite honestly, this deserves a 4.75 star. A very special place!

Yelp
Cocktails- 2 stars Mexican green was good but LEAN. Small pour for $15- r Food -3 stars We had Caesar salads ( $23) which were near perfect and the presentation was delightful as they were made table side - 4.5 stars Octopus ($23) appetizer on blue corn chips was drowning in a chile sauce ( not spicy) with a vinegar and citrus fruit combo that destroyed everything about the octopus except its texture. -1stars Blackened shrimp was a hit. $50. 8 medium shrimp nicely done. 4.0 stars. Catch of the day ($45) was local whitefish ( Tobirato?) in a potato crust, in a prickly pear sauce. Tasteless and dry as a bone . Even the sauce couldn't save it.Recommended by waiter and a disaster. -1star. Atmosphere 4.0stars. Nicely modern with excellent lighting and live Mexican vocalist. Sadly, she slaughtered many of the English language songs by Commodores, Fleetwood Mac, & Elton John. She was EXCELLENT with all Spanish language songs and has great potential. Service - 4.5 stars Wait staff were attentive and prompt. We were given a fortified wine complimentary due to the main course tragedy ( fish). Price 1 Star VERY overpriced for mediocre food and decent cocktails. $200 w/o tip. Other excellent restaurants with BETTER food were 1/2 -60% of this price. Bottom Line Eat elsewhere unless you love throwing your money away. Note value here. Note: I'm a retired chef whose last restaurant was a successful steakhouse in Eastern Europe from 2003-2013. My reviews are critical ( ie you must earn your stars).

Yelp
Amazing ambiance. Great service. I found some of the flavor combos to be off. Especially, one of the desserts we had definitely seemed to have had some execution snafu. On another day, if we weren't so tired and eager to head out, I would have enquired. But that day, we just let it slide. The vegetarian food was so-so. Some high points. Some mid.

Yelp
Super cute spot. We didn't eat here, only had drinks in the lounge area but would def come back (I believe they are owned by the same people that own The Office and Edith's in Cabo San Lucas). Their cocktails, as you can see, are sooo pretty, but also very tasty. Forgot our bartender's name, but he was super attentive and friendly. He saw me scratching my leg several times, so he offered me Off itching spray. He also makes a great espresso martini! Ambiance is really nice, very spacious for large groups and there was a live singer. Will be back!

Yelp
My husband and I came in for our anniversary dinner and the service was absolutely incredible from start to finish. We've never had a dining experience like this but it is one to remember. There was a live saxophone player who serenaded us personally and throughout the night. We started off with the mezcal tamarind margarita (which was perfect) and switched to their local red cab with our entrees. For dinner we had 3 courses and the table side ceaser salad was so delicious made by Justin (I wish there was more than 6 lettuce pieces because the dressing was out of this world and would've loved to enjoy it more) Definitely try the brisket which they slow roast for 8 hours. The complementary wood fire bread with rosemary smoked butter was delicious as well. Props to our server (unfortunately we don't remember his name) but he explained the menu from top To bottom with excellent explanations. The only thing I would skip on is the octopus, tasted a little one dimensional but the pairing with the sorbet saved it. Also the house made tortilla chips tasted a little stale. Otherwise, Thank you for this experience to remember and a great start to our vacation!

Yelp
We went here last night for my birthday. Great atmosphere and great service. However, the drinks were TINY, and completely watered down. The food is So expensive, it's shocking. For a party of 6, our bill was $800. (And only 4 of us ordered cocktails)-- the other 2 people were drinking water!!!!!!!!!!!!! The crest salad was a joke with only 3 lettuce leaves. The brisket was great, but again extremely overpriced and small portions. SKIP DON SANCHEZ!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
This place is fantastic! I would recommend reservations if you're going during peak dinner hours. Also, the meal will take a bit as everything is cooked fresh. Don't worry though, the outdoor ambiance is very cool and they often have live entertainment. Also, be careful with the menu as there are a couple really pricey items - everything is listed in pesos, so know the conversions. First off, I would get the caesar salad made at your table. It is almost a mini-show as the waiter creates the dish. Very tasty! All of the steak dishes are good - except my wife accidentally ordered one that cost about $150! Oops. I had a steak and lobster combo that was excellent and reasonably priced. Other good options are the lobster risotto, surf and turf taco, or the wood fried chicken. There was one lady who was in charge of cashing out each table and she didn't speak English very well, but it wasn't an issue. Great restaurant and we used their wifi on two separate occasions so we could order an Uber back to our hotel - much cheaper than the taxi stand. Don Sanchez is an excellent, 5 star dining experience!

Yelp
Absolutely fabulous for anyone vegan (or not!). The service is superb and the location is beautiful. Everyone enjoyed their meal - carnivores and vegans alike. Highly recommend!

Yelp
One of our favorite meals in San Jose. The service was some of the best I've ever had. Beautiful location. Exceptional food.

Yelp
Such a wonderful experience at this restaurant! My friends & I unfortunately didn't make a reservation (I recommend you do), but we were still able to be sat within 15 minutes of arriving. Not only does this beautiful restaurant have a lovely ambiance, but the service was truly incredible. ALL staff members were extremely knowledgeable on their dishes & extremely attentive & kind. The chef sent out little appetizers which were delicious & presentations reflected that!! The Cesar salad is a must as the dressing is prepared in front of you. I ordered a food item, which unfortunately wasn't as expected. I spoke to the waiter & was accommodated with a smile & understanding. I was so nervous truly to share my concern, but was treated well & even gave me more reason to give 10/10! Thank you again to the staff for making this a memorable experience with delicious cocktails!

Lisa B.

Yelp
This was one of the highlights of our trip. The decor was breathtaking. You walk into the restaurant, but then realize the whole restaurant is open air and there are all these beautiful hanging lanterns. All the food was delicious and the service was phenomenal. From the complimentary bread & butter to the live music, everything was thoughtfully and beautifully executed. It was more than dinner, it was an experience. Well worth the slightly higher price tag.

Matthew L.

Yelp
Always delicious!! Great service in a beautiful restaurant. Their sister restaurants are also excellent

Kristen A.

Yelp
The service was impeccable.... But unfortunately the food was not. I had the shrimp dish and the first piece was hard and so tough I couldn't chew it . So out of the mouth it came, along with the rest of my meal 3 hrs later . Such a bummer because I really wanted to like this restaurant as it is so pretty and the service was amazing . But unfortunately when you get food poisoning, the likely hood of ever coming back will be a "no".

Regina I.

Yelp
We went to Don Sanchez as the last restaurant on our trip and it was absolutely amazing! The service, the food and the live music was fantastic. We ordered the catch of the day ceviche, rustic tomato salad, the recommended pork and brisket. The presentation of the food was also very nice.
google avatar

Amanda S.

Yelp
Our food was delicious (main fish course, salad and churros!) and the service was absolutely incredible. The nicest and proactive staff. Thank you for a great dinner! Really pretty ambiance/lighting inside as well
google avatar

Dominique J.

Yelp
Food was just ok, and very over priced! For 7 adults and 2 kids it was over $1,000! If it was outstanding food I would get it but honestly it was basic. Flora farms or acre are a millions times better and half the price.
google avatar

Yelp
LOVE! This is the best meal I've had in Cabo in a while!! From the ambiance, the service, and the food, Don Sanchez went above and beyond our expectations. We enjoyed everything!!! We will definitely be back!!!
google avatar

Yelp
Lovely outdoor area with live music and very attentive staff. Impressive menu with lots of local and delicious options. Portions are generous and everything including the mushroom butter for roles is well thought out. Must try if you're in the area!

J V.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants I have experienced anywhere! Food was excellent!! Expertly prepared. Five stars! Menu was so eclectic and delicious, hard to pick just one - don't miss the ceasar salad made at the table! Service was outstanding! Ambience was beautiful with lovely baskets and woven chandeliers! Singer & music was perfect not too loud!

Yelp
This isn't only a dinner but an experience. Do not come here expecting cheese enchiladas, chips and salsa and to be served quickly. So have the mind frame for upscale authentic Mexican cuisine. Be prepared to pay for quality delicacies and service to match. Our server was José/Joe and he was wonderful. We started out with delicious drinks: don Sanchez margaritas and the Zapata (excellent tamarind flavors). We also asked them to bring more drinks but bartenders choice and they didn't disappoint. At that point we asked Jose to bring us what appetizers and foods that were his personal favorite. He was unsure about this but he nailed it. Table side Caesar salads. Tartar and octopus ceviche. Their bread with mezcal infused butter was delicious. Entrees were brought out: pork shank, beef brisket with an amazing mushroom risotto, octopus and fresh fish. A nice sorbet then churros (best we have ever had) and chocolate piñata cake. They boxed our leftovers too. The restaurant is beautiful. Partial outdoor setting. Very clean rest rooms with attendants. Live music was a guitarist who sang American songs (Country Roads, Margaritaville, etc). As we left he did start playing Gipsy Kings and Spanish music in general.

Maria Montenegro M.

Yelp
Service & food was impeccable! So many delicious tastes! Everything was amazing! Local wine and desserts complemented one of the best dinners we've ever had.

Carlos G.

Yelp
Years ago we dined at the previous location (pre-covid) and we were not expecting to try it again.... That is until we were drawn in by the enchanting beauty of its new location and its new menu. This extended review is due to every detail and flavor being absolutely perfect. Starting with our custom request for "skinny" tequila/mezcal Margarita that the skilled bartender finished off with fresh rosemary made every sip refreshingly good! (We had more than one ;) Now for the food. The fresh warm bread came out with a bang! What's the big deal about bread right? Well they had multiple types and then they came out with a smoke infused tray of butters, that was the bang! So good!! For a starter we had the tuna tartar tower, a very fresh and a flavorful mix of ingredients. The Caesar Salad table side presentation was worth the show both in taste and to our requests (no anchovies, light dressing). The heirloom tomato soup poured table side had nice flavor with just the right amount of spices. For the main course we chose their signature pork dish. It was moist, tasty and accompanied by a nice medley of fresh vegetables (roasted to perfection). The dish was floating in a flavorful green sauce, with an added reduction sauce on the side for a last bit of flavor. Our Birthday celebration chocolate dessert was heavenly good. The entire staff's service was exceptional and on point. Head waiter Arturo kept a vigilant eye on the large staff of servers. Our waiter Santiago, assisted by Joel kept every dish coming out with impeccable timing and precise presentation. Our glasses were always full and we never felt rushed. That feeling allowed us to enjoy the live acoustic guitarist whose song selection playlist were all hits. Chef Edgar sent out a couple of "taste" items on the house (I felt like a Michelin star representative) Chef Edgar has really made his personal culinary vision in to a gem of a restaurant. At the end of the night we told Arturo how much we enjoyed the experience. Then Chef Edgar personally came out to thank us for the compliments and for visiting. He has really turned it up a notch, we will return. IF I was a Michelin star representative, Don Sanchez would have a star under the Marquis. Bravo!

Ramya V.

Yelp
I can't recommend these people enough. They are sooo hospitable and their food tastes incredible. They went above and beyond to accommodate my dairy allergies. Fantastic food! And great location.

Yelp
The place looked awesome from outside so we walked in and ate. We were blown away with the service and food! The place is just gorgeous and the food was excellent, everything was exceptional. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Barry B.

Yelp
Only reason I can't give this place a 5 is tho it's high end chef preparation, beautiful presentation and great flavors, it's also small portions and exorbitant pricing. Great service, vibe, and music.

Jenifer P.

Yelp
Had the most amazing dinner at DS. Jose, David, Shiy and Justin made our evening memorable. The service was beyond great. We had the pulpo (amazing) and the catch of the day and pork. Caesar salad made table side. Chef owned. Everything cooked to perfection. They have a great cocktail/tequila selection. Highly rec. Would give 10 stars if it was an option.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
Went here based on the reviews and was totally blown away. Typically, at fine dining restaurants, I find the red meat dishes to be the easiest thing to love. But Don Sanchez blew me away with the veggie dishes. The root vegetable ceviche was absolutely incredible- the tenderness of the thin cut veggies really amazed me. The beets were truly in my top 10 dishes I've ever had in my life. Beets are always good but usually one dimensional. These changed and developed flavors 10 times while chewing. I've thought about those beets every day. And the fish with avocado risotto- oh my god. Rarely do I find risotto that's cooked perfectly, but they nailed it and every flavor of that dish was exceptional. This meal will be living in my memory for a long time.

Donna R.

Yelp
Two years in this location, and From the time we walked in it was obvious this was a special restaurant. It's focus on sustainabIlity, local flavor infusions, and Impeccable service, coupled with an engaging outdoor dining space make it a must in San Jose Del Cabo.
google avatar

Yelp
Stop what you're doing, no more scrolling, make a reservation immediately - you will not be disappointed! Best meal, best environment and service hands down! Be sure to order the caesar salad, it's prepared table side and is amazing! My husband had the surf and turf tacos and I had the blackened shrimp. I cannot say enough about this spectacular restaurant! Look forward to go back! Cheers to Rene and Antonio! BEST BY FAR!
google avatar

John S.

Yelp
My wife and I thorough enjoyed our time @ Don Sanchez when we went to San Jose for the art walk. My wife had the brisket and j had fish (I wish I would have got the brisket lol). Both were excellent, along with the Caesar salad we ordered. The chef complimentary tasting dishes were a great touch and appreciated. Beautiful location, building, and atmosphere. Solid bar selection at reasonable pricing considering the level of restaurant. Incredibly attentive and detailed staff. We will be back this year when we stay again for sure!

Missy R.

Yelp
We dined here last week, party of 4. Food was like a B+, solid but not amazing. Service was A+, excellent. Ambiance and decor was wonderful. Taxi stand right in front of restaurant, so was easy to get a ride back to hotel after dinner.

Yelp
We have been coming to the Don Sanchez restaurant(s) for over a decade. They moved about 1 year ago to a stunningly beautiful new space. The food and service are top notch, one of the best dining experiences of my life. Our server Rene had an extensive knowledge in the culinary world, from including Wines up to the way all the dishes were prepared, he was most attentive to our every need, and his portion suggestions were a great help! I couldn't wipe the smile of my face!! We will be back in 2025!

Yelp
My husband and I stumbled upon Don Sanchez as we were shopping in the Cabo Arts District. The beautiful decor and ambiance were so inviting. After taking a look at the menu we were pleasantly surprised to see so many vegan options for us. We made plans to return the next day for our anniversary dinner. We were absolutely blown away by the service and quality of the food. We both agree this was one of the best vegan meals we've had EVER! Every detail was accounted for and flavor profiles were out of this world! We had the zucchini blossom quesadillas and vegan sope as appetizers. Both were incredibly delicious and decadent. Next we had the mushroom risotto and roasted cauliflower. Honestly this should be a Michelin star restaurant, if it isn't already. We followed the waiters wine pairings for our meal and they were excellent. We plan to come to Don Sanchez every time we visit Cabo. Thank you for an unforgettable anniversary dinner. It was an experience we will never forget.

Rich M.

Yelp
My kids and I had an amazing meal last night at Don Sanchez in San Jose Del Cabo. Can't say enough good things about the quality and balance of the dishes. The service was top notch as well. Everything that came from their wood fire grill was perfection and the bar tender's creative concoctions were impressive as well. Our fav was the confit goat (of all things)!

Eva A.

Yelp
The food and service were 5 stars. We felt taken care of the entire time. They gave us great recommendations for food and drinks. We especially loved the tableside Caesar salad. Everything was so delicious.

Gene H.

Yelp
Food was NOT traditional Mexican food. It was elaborate fine dining but NOT filling. Example surf & turf taco you get ONE taco. Tasted real good. The portions of food is for those not real hungry or on a diet. Afterwards we down the street and had a hot dog and wings to fill up. Service is great and open air atmosphere is nice. Caution my wife and I both ordered the beets and brisket. Both orders came on one plate and they didn't explain it was for both of us. My wife ate all the beets before we found out we were to share. To top it off it was very expensive for what we got. We don't mind paying higher prices for good food but more quantity would have been nice. Neighboring table ordered a second round of food because they didn't fill up the first round.
google avatar

Leila G.

Yelp
Wow wow wow! Book your table now you will not be disappointed. One of the best dining experiences we have ever had. Loved it so much we came back for dinner again. Atmosphere is divine, service excellent, food is superb! Lots of vegetarian option and delicious mocktails as well. Highly recommend!!!

Yelp
Whew to start! The food was amazing and creative. Everything on there menus was carefully created to capture the ambiance of the country and the area DON SANCHEZ is located. For my entree I had the lobster Rizzoli. It was so FRESH!then came the Cesar Salad. That was an experience on its own. The salad extraordinaire named Chiquilín made the dressing right in front of us! Not to mention it was the best dressing I have had. If there was one more thing to say it that our main servers Rene and Tizoc really helped make our experience 10/10 experience! I would definitely recommend! Sadie Mendoza

Yelp
This place is the best! Elegant with delicious food that is crafted with such culinary creativity, topped with amazing service. The entire team helps out and everyone is so friendly - from the hostess to the payment lady, and everyone in between! Special thanks to Rene, Erik, and Joao for their recommendations on food and drinks, as well as for making our visits memorable. See you next time!
