Don Zarape Mexican Food

This Mexican restaurant at Don Zarape deserves every one of its five stars. I absolutely adored my experience here; it was our inaugural visit, and it exceeded our expectations. Despite the early closing time at 6 pm, we managed to arrive at 5 pm, giving us a satisfying hour to enjoy our meal. Next time, I'll be sure to arrive even earlier. I savored the fish soup, caldo de pescado, paired with horchata, while my wife delighted in the shrimp Coctel with a refreshing jaimaca drink. The flavors were outstanding. I love coming here for their caldos and combination plates. Their torta was amazing and I would highly recommend it. It’s honestly a nice visit every time I get a chance to come here.

Great authentic Mexican food. I like cooking and this place has a great sazón. Everyone is always welcome by the staff. Overall a great experience, we always come here with our construction crew to refuel. Thank you Cesar for being so attentive all the time Sir.

61 dollars for four tacos a a little plate of carne asada plus an horchata think twice on coming in here this is just ridiculous just because they want to be “authentic”

This was my to go place when I used to live in North Hollywood. It's the best Mexican spot to go to People are so humble there and it's inexpensive The albóndigas are amazing Well just about everything on this menu is delicious The service is quick and you can selected were to sit. It's ambience is cool and almost feels like a family gathering Love this place

The dinner they served me was full of tasty and fresh ingredients! The staff was very kind and were excited to come back and try their margaritas with friends. I'm very impressed with this space and the food.

Everything, the menudo is just water with a couple of medimos floating on the plate, & clean bones of pata, one of the worse places where you can order food

I was looking for street tacos on my way to an appointment while I was in Valley Village area and I came across this place as they were on the way to the appointment. Now I have been to several taco places all over the valley, (please check my yelp for reference), the East Coast Mexico, etc. and hands-down LA has the best Mexican food I will start with that. I ordered two Asada tacos and one pastor taco -- I was not happy with the yellow corn tortillas as they tasted stale on one of my tacos, it was about 1030 when I went so this could be a true thing, but in my opinion, the Asada meat tasted like it was left over from yesterday and reheat it today, which I am not a person to eat leftovers that's just my personal preference I make food at home I eat what I cook -- I order food out I eat what I buy so it was quite disappointing and I get it everyone is going through hard times, foods expensive for the restaurant industry. I can see why they would not either discard of the meat or take it home with them what their dynamic would be but to reuse it and you think your food is going to be fresh was very disappointing. I'm not gonna say I spent a lot of money on my tacos because I didn't spend a lot of money I think the tacos were three dollars each but even still give quality food for people who are ordering from a restaurant. I will give it to them. The Pastor taco was amazing. I should've just got three of those but I don't really eat much pork and the salsa and chips were good. The restaurant was a cute restaurant although I don't understand why having a full grown pitbull dog I guess it is trained sitting in the restaurant with one of your family members or friends hanging out is appropriate, but hey, that's just me I could understand if they had a back patio but they don't. The staff was very kind and friendly. But I must agree with one of the other yelp reviews that was recent the tortillas were not good at all and if you're going to buy store-bought tortillas, there's some great places that you can get them from to make authentic street tacos because that was not an authentic street taco or good quality Asada.

Everything here is homemade and the homemade tortillas are the best in all of LA. Also, the prices are really really good. Highly recommended. I wish I can give 10 stars.

Not all Don Zarape locations are created alike. I was not too impressed with the #2 location on Vineland. However, this location #1, Don Zapata is one of the best of the chains yet. The storefront looks small and unassuming but inside is a nice size dining room which is clean and well adorned. Within mere seconds of sitting down, I was greeted with chips & salsa, and a drink request. Now that's good service! I'm happy to say that this quality of service and attention to my needs remained throughout my visit. With regard to the food, the Carne Asada soft tacos are some of the best I've had. The sirloin meat is nicely grilled and seasoned and there was no gristle. The corn tortilla is clearly homemade and had a very nice flavor. The Chicken Enchilada Rancheras consisted of three medium size enchiladas, rice, beans and a small salad garnish. The food here is very tasty and reasonably priced. From top to bottom, I had a great experience. The food, service and the comfort of the location we're all very good. There is parking in the back. I will definitely be visiting Don Zapata #1 again. I am a fan!

Friendly and pretty fast service. Everything was prepared fresh after we ordered, including the guacamole. The sizes were generous and the home made tortillas were amazing. No complaints would definitely go back.

I was looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant in Colorado, didn't think I was going to find it! Definitely hit the spot, I was in a rush so I grab the carne asada plate! Everything on it was delicious! They are not shy when I comes to serve you a plate! Jesus it was so much food! It's a family vibe restaurant where you can take your kids, definitely a lunch spot if your looking for a bite to eat while on break! Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to go back and try more food but I can tell you this much I know for a fact the food is on point! Check it out

The food here is amazing! Excellent ingredients and delicious, nutritious items! The staff are pleasant and helpful! Caldo de pollo helped us heal from COVID effects and wet burritos are fantastic! Chips are crispy and thick. Salsa is splendid! Its a win win to come here!

Friendly staff and great food! A little pricier for some of the items but over really good! The agua Fresca was amazing! And so we're the taquitos. The ambiance was good and homey.

How do you run a restaurant but never answer the damn phone?? That shit is annoying yo like wtf!!! I'm assuming people are lazy as shit and don't want to take orders over the phone! Shit is weird and sad! I'm never going back!

The seafood is SUPER FRESH couldn't have enjoyed a better spot for it . Service is top notch ladies are so friendly .... Plenty of seating and the art inside makes it so beautiful to dine @ def recommend.

My husband and I eat here too often than I should admit, lol. This is probably the best Mexican food that I have had in the area. We always try to try new restaurants but always end up remaining loyal to Don Zarape. Everything is bomb. 15/5 review.

Place is a good spot, we had their mole on their tacos that they are known for and was not bad for the area. We had also tried their burrito and the salsa that was in it seemed like it was watered down or needed more of its green pepper. Aguas are good an not over sugared.

Place is unassuming, and if you blink you'll miss it. When you come in you'll see all the dishes on the wall. I've tried their chili Colorado, their beef and yesterday I tried their meat combo. Their salsa is amazing as well. They are known for their whole fried fish.. I think I'm gonna try that next time. Come by and support a true local restaurant and leave full and happy.

This place is so yummy-good. We recently discovered Don Zarape and the food is delicious. Everything we've eaten here is really good. The customer service is great too. Always attentive.

Came here for breakfast. Got Huevos a la mexicana. The homemade tortillas were delicious!!! Service was also great, very friendly staff.

Great authentic Mexican cuisine. Probably the best in this area. Every time I've been here, it's been semi-filled (which is great). You can tell this place has been around for a while and is loved by its patrons. Their wet burritos are large, filling and evenly priced. The guaraches are also very large and tasty. The service is top notch.

Came here for Friday Lent and got the Campechana with a pineapple-orange agua fresca and everything was ON POINT. It's common for the octopus and scallops to be a tad gummy but mine was perfect. Salsa with the chips was good not spicy at all (how I like it ) everyone seemed to be having a good day from the pretty waiters to the singing cooks lol. Will definitely be coming back, probably for the caldo.

Don't sleep on this place, I've lived down the street for years and i'm just trying now. I had the molcajete so flavorful

Had lunch here first time, right away the waitress greeted us so friendly. Water for drinks and got our order. I'm here for menudo, its rare to find Mexican restaurants that has this soup, mostly on Saturdays, dont ask why, idk either. But, it wasn't done right, the tripes were overcooked, and it didn't have hominy in it, its supposed to. But, I finished it, the taste was there with that of exception (tripes) they're very attentive and always filling your glass of water and asking you if everything is good. So, over all it's a nice little quaint spot, but I'm not sure if I'm returning, cause my companions order was not at all that good, a bit pricey and a lot of veggies instead of the actual steak n shrimps

I ordered the chile verde wet burrito with green sauce. It's the BEST burrito I have ever had. Please don't change a thing! I ate it here before but it was never this delicious. Not sure if you changed the cook? Perfect amount of meat, beans and cheese. The chile verde sauce is perfection. Reminded me of home.

I make a point to treat myself to Don Zarape every Friday. Their Chilaquiles are the best in LA, bar none. As long as I live in Valley Village, I'll be walking to see this family owned restaurant every week. They are very welcoming and the food is amazing.

If you want authentic Mexican food this is not it. The beans taste canned and the red chili taste like pasta sauce....

Overpriced and I ordered a pork burrito and it came with so little meat. It's too bad because I live close by.

I was on the hunt for Menudo and Mr Don had it! I also had a chicken and Al pastor taco on their homemade shells--so good! I wish the menudo had more of a blod flavor to it, it was good- but I have had better.

If you see a review below 5 stars don't believe it. You cannot beat homemade tortillas. Food is so on point I dream about it. Please support this amazing business!!!

I can't stop raving about this spot... was driving down Burbank starving and saw a spot next to the gas station and said hey why not ‍... I got the fish tostada (because they had them on the menu ) and my girl got mixed enchiladas... when i say this was the BEST fish ceviche I've ever had I'm not exaggerating and that's rivaling some amazing places in Baja. I'm not sure what type of fish they used but I will find out, the flavors were perfect mix of acidic and savory and the hot sauce was a homemade version of taps too but with waay better flavor and kick;they also give you salt packets to control the saltiness of the dish(great!). The chicken in her enchiladas had a rotisserie flavor to it which lets me know it was definitely slow roasted. The rice... amazing, I know rice but seriously the flavor was epic. Go to this place and you tell me what you taste!

Best Pozole in town!!! Tastes fresh and very flavorful. I normally squeeze some lime in mine. Must try

I love this place. They have such a diverse menu and everything I have had is wonderful. I personally like the Pollo Asado (grilled chicken), the tostada mixta (ceviche), and the costillas in salsa verde (ribs in green sauce). Breakfast burritos were really good as well. Great spot to check out. If they are grilling the chicken on the outside grill, I recommend walking by. Once you smell how good it is, you will want at least a taco.

Name is a solid restaurant prices are not great but not badd for the area. The food quality is pretty good and because I came on a slow day and time, the service was really good. I have the burrito supreme pastor and it was pretty tasty. It came with Advocato, cheese, sour cream, Rice, and beans. Nothing to write home about but still pretty good. Bottom line this falls low on my price plus quality equals value scale, but if you're looking for a solid place to eat, this is a good spot.

My first visit there yesterday. I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Caesar who was very welcoming. (We watched that show showing vintage Harleys.) I ordered: 1) chicken mole enchiladas (5 stars) 2) carnitas taco - (5 stars) 3) asada taco (4 stars - would have liked the meat to have more of the charred taste I'm used to with asada but was still good). Wishing Caesar and staff continued success. Everyone there was very friendly. Thanks Don Zarape Restaurant and staff.

Good food. The chicken plate with rice and beans is good. Sometimes I think they're in a rush and they'll throw in like 5 to 10 beans but I think I've only had one bad experience with them.

My wife and I like eating here because they prepare the food in a homemade style. When we are in the mood for this flavor we come here first. Zarape isn't trying to be like an establishment Mexican Restaurant. Soups, taquitos, tacos are made in the old fashion way. We really like the food in their Norteno style! Portions are large and many items come with garnish. Service is very friendly and casual.

This place is delicious. They hand make the corn tortillas and have great portions. Agua frescas are to die for! The soup has always saved me during hangovers. I have only ever dined in once, I usually order take out. It is great either way

My boyfriend and I came here since we just moved in the area. We wanted to try all the restaurants in the area, and I think we found one of favs already. The prices are not bad and the food quality is AMAZING. The steak tacos are so good, we got a second order of them!

This little restaurant definitely doesn't look like much but it definitely was a cool little hole in the wall that is well worth visiting! One you walk in there are tables and booths available to sit and dine at, the interior decor is reminiscent of a home so it was very quaint. The staff was very friendly. The food itself was delicious! I have been finding it kind of difficult to find restaurants with mole on their menus and i was pleasantly surprised that they did have it, and its delicious! It was flavorful and their presentation on food is A+ ! My coworkers and I had a varying take out order that comprised of tacos dorados, enchiladas de mole, and flautas. The food came out fresh, crispy, hot, and beautifully dressed! The flavors of the food were very on point, and i was so happy to find a place in the valley that has delicious mole so close to my place of work i definitely will be coming back here! If youre not into going indoors for dining they also have a cool take out window situation adjacent to their indoor dining area!

Menudo, hand made corn tortillas are fresh andbtasty. Their pinto beans as a side is a much healthier option than the salsa and chips and they are tasty so its a win win!

Love this place and love the SUPER BURRITO. Free chips and salsa and tons of space. They also have a homemade Horchata that will make you smile.

It's close to work, and i haven't been disappointed, I've tried their lunch specials, Good amount and well presented. Making it an enjoyment to eat....I will be coming back.

I love this little Restaurant. They have the Best Garlic Shrimp I've ever had here in Los Angeles. So if you ever find yourself in North Hollywood, stop by and try it. I don't think you'll be disappointed! Over all their food is really good. They offer chips, and the SALSA is off of the hook. Right next to the gas station. Just Do It!

Primera vez que visito este lugar y ultimo. Pedí un pozole y un menudo parecía agua con sal que manera de vender algo semejante y no con eso les dije que no íbamos a comer porque la comida está horrible pedí la cuanta por coercía y tuvieron el valor de cobrarme todo completo sin ningún descuento o cambiar por otra cosa. No se los recomiendo ir a este lugar

They make the best Horchata in town, and even gave us an additional two bowls of hot tasty tortilla chips. They have wonderful family environment, and very friendly lady, will make sure that we feel very taken care of without refills. Strongly recommend. Easy parking.
