"If you’re sick of speakeasies that look like they’re owned by that bloke from Peaky Blinders, Doña is for you. The walls at this underground Dalston drinking den are carmine red, the bar is covered in pink feathers like Big Bird is living his best Barbie fantasy, and the spicy margaritas are our personal benchmark for sexy mezcal consumption. Even if you plan on coming here for one little bottle of Modello, this is a bar you’ll struggle to leave before midnight. "This underground bar in Stoke Newington looks like the interior of our minds after watching a Sofia Coppola film—and the excellent mezcal-heavy cocktails scratch the same ‘we’ll be fun forever’ itch. As well as the velvet chaise longues and abundance of pink feathers on the bar, Doña’s live DJ sets are the perfect combination of low lighting and high-energy tracks. The schedule shimmies from cabaret performances to female-led jazz, but honestly, we’ve never had a bad night here. "Doña, a female-owned basement bar in Dalston, has opened a full-blown restaurant just above on the ground floor. "Doña is one of our favourite bars in London. It has all the red fringing and flair of a ‘70s Cher outfit with carmine walls, a velvet chaise longue, and an abundance of pink feathers on the horseshoe bar. But the fact that this underground Stoke Newington bar looks like the interior of our minds after watching a Sofia Coppola film is only part of the reason why we love this place. It’s a bar that happily swallows your evening whole—one expertly spicy mezcal margarita becomes 1am bottles of Modelo on the dance floor, soundtracked by something delightfully funky courtesy of the DJ. Upstairs, there’s a restaurant serving Central American dishes and it’s less red-walled play room and more mid-week catch-up over a plate of fried tortilla chips. We’re not huge fans of the food: the doñitas are overloaded with avocado and the mezcal chicken is a touch dry.
