Doña Paulina Review - Westchester - Miami - The Infatuation

"This Uruguayan restaurant on Bird Road is known for its chivito sandwich, which is good, but not a very practical sandwich. It comes loaded with egg, a slightly tough steak, and about five other ingredients that slide right out after the first bite. The dry milanesa sandwich would also be better if it came with a sauce. Still, it’s a fun and family-friendly restaurant, with a big wine selection, cold beer in chilled glasses, and karaoke on Friday night." - Mariana Trabanino

18 Iconic Hispanic Restaurants In Miami - Miami - The Infatuation

"With a large Hispanic community already established in Miami, Uruguayans made their way to the neighborhoods of North Beach and Coral Gables when they immigrated to the United States in the 1960s and 1970s. Just don’t confuse them for Argentinians—the culture is very different, especially when it comes to food. Doña Paulina is one of the most well known Uruguayan restaurants, and has lived in Westchester for decades. You’re coming to this lively neighborhood restaurant to watch soccer matches and eat traditional foods such as chivito, pizza a caballo, and chaja dessert." - Mandy Baca

We had a group of 12+ and we had so much fun! I ate chicken soup, and my hubby got the sweetbreads. Both were delicious! All the food that came to the take looked amazing, will definitely return. The best part was the dancing and karaoke!

Doña Paulina is the restaurant you are looking for if you want to enjoy exquisite food. Every dish they serve has a special ingredient: love. Love that stems from an appreciation of past memories and the fulfillment of service as a vocation. I would like to thank their entire team for providing me with the humblest and friendliest experience I have ever had in any recreational center in the city. Special thanks to Mrs. Melisa and all the wonderful singers with whom I had the pleasure of sharing the evening. Doña Paulina’s restaurant will take you back to your childhood and remind you of the warmth of a true home. Thank you!

Google
We found this Uruguayan restaurant in the middle of Bird Road and ordered different beef cuts (entraña, picaña, rib eye,...), sausages and their chaja. The food was ok, we would come back to taste the milanesa and empanadas. The service was fast and friendly, and the atmosphere was 90s like.

Came here today for the first time and ordered the skirt steak. It was absolutely superb!

Google
This was a terrific surprise. We stopped for a quick meal and ended up enjoying the " karaoke show". First, we did not have reservations but they easily accommodated us quickly. The food was superbly cooked. I had the entraña medium rare and my date the mushroom chicken. The meat was so tender and delicious. No need for chimichurri. The service is friendly and seem to be always running around. The house wine was nothing to write about, but they do have a very large selection to choose from. The karaoke was fun. Their were some ringers who appeared to be regulars, all in Spanish songs. Except for a guy named Ron, who came with his free country songs. All in all, it's was a great atmosphere, delicious food, and at a very reasonable price. Love it.

Google
There definitely needs to be a second person scheduled during lunchtime. One staff member alone isn’t enough to provide quality service to customers. While it seems there are regulars who may be used to the pace, not all customers will be familiar faces. New visitors—like myself—could easily have a negative experience due to long waits for essentials like bread, drinks, and the check. Efficient service during peak hours is crucial to ensuring a positive impression and encouraging repeat visits.

Google
What a hidden Gem, nice staff little cozy place had no idea they have shows, and live music, we went Saturday night 7 pm and we where lucky to get a table because ppl reserved them for the show . Food was amazingly great la parrillada for two it’s huge , the sangria was delicious great service and so much fun. I’ll be coming back again!!!! Keep the great work

Yelp
Large portions with great prices. The live entertainment made this restaurant fun and people started dancing! Sangria was delicious,,,wine selection was okay but for their house wines I was pleasantly surprised! Definitely returning!

Yelp
Definitely this is the best place to have a nice dinner, their plates and steak are amazing. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
Went here for lunch and was very impressed with the meal! The steak tasted phenomenal and was seasoned so well. The sausage was also very tasteful and filling. The prices for the menu were also very reasonable. Only thing to say is service was fairly slow but you will not leave this place feeling disappointed about your meal!

Telesia Mauigoa

Yelp
Food was scrumptious at a high cost but worth it. The service was slow which was the only problem. So, order ahead of time if you're planning to give this place a try. Inside was private and it was like an eatery for old folks to listen to some great music.

Yelp
We were pleasantly surprised to find this cozy little restaurant nearby. I assumed it was Latin, but it was actually Uruguayan. My only "con" is that they sat us by the window, and then 15 minutes later we were told that table had been reserved and they moved us. That, and they didn't speak English, but my husband speaks enough to get by. My husband ordered the Milanesa with moros and grilled vegetables. I had the palomilla steak with a baked potato and grilled vegetables. They brought sour cream but no butter, but there was enough butter left in the bread basket that I made do. Yelpers--if you check in, you get a free dessert. We choose flan and it was A+. We noticed that a lot of customers seemed to be regulars at this place. Good food breeds loyalists, right? They were setting up for a singer at 9pm, but we a short time before he was to start. Next time...

Yelp
The food is delicious. Their fish is amazing! Service is great! I highly recommend this cozy restaurant.

Yelp
This locale has been open for ages and had forgotten about it, but tired of not finding easy parking in other locations (gables for example) to eat at a popular Argentinian restaurant in the area, I decided to come back to give it a try. Along Bitd road you can find the coziest family oriented place to have a great old fashioned, cooked to perfection, delightfully seasoned (just salt), and likely grilled in a simple gas grill. The visit was short, sweet and to the pint. Welcomed with warmed bread and butter (as it should be) until the food arrived we started having a piece of bread w chimichurri. I must add that since this review I've been going every weekend looking for more of this feeling of a home cooked meal, but that said, I will share that the chimichurri is a bit too much on the salty side, excellent none the less. Back to the review, I'm a fan of the churrasco de vacío (flank steak) and oh boy, you should too. The quality of the meat is impressive, not sure where they source this from but it is fantastic. The order includes a side of salad and an optional extra order of fries or rice, etc. Well, we had 2 different types of meat to check out not only some of the most popular options but also what are our favorites choices. We went for the flank steak and a picanha (coulotte steak).the order is 12 oz. Each order is enough for 2 people if you consider that you should not have more that 6oz per serving but it is worth mentioning that one order could be well shared between 2, especially if you had bread or if you order an appetizer. We did not bc we rather had a larger portion each. But, honestly one portion is shareable. Again, not going to get tired of reminding you why you should try these excellent options, but rather wanna make sure that through repetition you go there and give it a try yourself. They also have an extensive selection of wines but since I've only been there for luck kept it a beer level, however there's plenty of options should you want to throw a great Malbec or Cab to accompany your order, but that's just discretionary and a nice add on. Anyway, could not pass the opportunity to also mention that while the staff is kind they are not necessarily very attentive. The could improve a bit in that but like most major restaurants today, I noticed they were short staffed in every visit I've been there. You see the staff busy to keep that place running and that should be always appreciated. Finally, every visit has been pleasant and delightful. Food has been amazing but the place is a bit outdated and could be improved. It is a family place and the quality of the ingredients are up there, yet I think the prices are worth the flavors you encounter. There's a show at nights on Fridays and at least Saturdays night, but not sure if the time. While I was eating the person that sings came over and invited us. Super corteous guy. Need to go back to hear him singing and enjoy a glass of wine with good music. I've been meaning to write about this restaurant, but did not find the time until now. I took a couple pictures of both the menu and our orders as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. As you will see the meats come perfectly cooked not charred, and well presented and cooked. This may not be a perfect 5 but one of the strongest 4.5, but since there's always room for improvement we'll stick to 4. Oh, and I say #goenjoyagreatsteak. Because life's too short not to enjoy and give it a try. #Dontforgetyourmalbec. Cheers!

Yelp
No ambience with below average food and service. Dona Paulina charged you for using a credit card to pay a restaurant bill, which ew though was outrageous at these prices. We were overcharged on our wine-- told it was $30 but charged $38. Menu prices online were lower than prices at restaurant. Will never go back!

Mildred G.

Yelp
Wonderful place. We love this place the service always provided by Ismaris is the primary reason we go there regularly. Great food, great ambiance. Good food. The owner Melissa always takes the time to say hello to everyone and the music by Willie is always terrific.

Yelp
Great food! Chivito al plato my fav! Wide wine selection and dessert is to die for, recommend not to share it, you'll regret it ;)
google avatar

Catalina M.

Yelp
Soooo good and very authentic Uruguayan plates! It was a great find in Miami! (Thanks yelp!) It's a lot of food, so you might think about sharing. The chivito is really good! Comes with ham, cheese, soft egg, bacon, lettuce and tomato. The milanesa was great and authentic. It doesn't come with a side so you might want to order fries. The milanesa napolitana was fantastic! For dessert we split the panqueques de dulce de leche and they were amazing! Service was great! Super friendly!!! It's a bit slow but worth the wait :-)

Jeannette J.

Yelp
Delicious food at great prices. The service was also equally as good. The ambiance is quaint.

Yelp
Small Gem on Bird Rd near Tropical Park. Love their Caprese Salad, fresh and plentyful. Chorizo (Sausage) is a must for starter. Beef choices are exquisite and perfectly cooked to your taste. Tey their Picana or Bife de Chorizo (NY Strip). Service is top notch too (ask for Elizabeth). Their owner, Melissa, is always there to assist.

Arminio R.

Yelp
russian salad too much mayonnaise... it would help more people on the floor serving...so we do not need to keep asking for things

JB L.

Yelp
Been away from home (Chile) makes you look for places to eat the food you missed the most... empanadas, pan amasado, pastel de choclos, humitas, pisco Sour, etc. We went for the first time a couple of weeks ago when visiting Miami. We had a very nice lady server, pisco Sour was very good (I had 2), empanada and humita al Plato... good too. The ambiance makes you feel somehow at home... thank you guys for bringing our flavors to the states...

Monica L.

Yelp
I love eating at this restaurant. I go almost every morning because their coffee is the best. The chefs never disappoint and the service is always the best. I love the ambiance of the restaurant and would highly recommend eating at doña paulina :)

Toriamarie ..

Yelp
Good service but very salty food. We ordered some appetizers and three entrees. The wait staff is polite, however, all the steaks and rice were very salty. Will not be returning.

Michelle A.

Yelp
This place is the best, food is tasty and completely delicious, the service is amazing and the ambiance %... just love it

Yelp
came here with a giant group so we had a set menu! Atmosphere is very cute-- small and homey. Service was pretty good considering how many people we were. We started with some toasty bread with butter and chimichurri. Our bread basket was refilled multiple times as we waited for the entire party to arrive. We then proceeded with salad which led to parillada for 2. For non-red meat eaters with our party, they were served pasta in addition to grilled chicken, plantains, and fried yuca. Food was pretty good tbh. Live music was a guitarist from miraflores Peru! Enjoyable ambiance.

Yelp
I eat here once a week the food is the best and price you can't beat fast and Family Oriented

Matias G.

Yelp
The best restaurant in all of Miami!!! It is a beautiful place, the people are very vert friendly and the food is spectacular! The prices are very very good and God... the Uruguayan desserts are spectacular! Especially the "Chajá". Uruguayan atmosphere and very familiar, the best! I will return a thousand times more! Thank you very much, Doña Paulina!

Yelp
Un buen lugar para comer, simplemente lo recomiendo... en particular Las carnes muy buenas.

Yelp
Great food and service. Everything is good. And decent portion size as well. Cozy restaurant, great for date night or family dinner.
google avatar

Stephanie C.

Yelp
The food is so good good portion and very flavor. Great cost for the quality meat. Disclaimer on Friday's they have karaoke so if you don't like that vibe don't go on a Friday as it can get very loud. Also great wine selection.

Isabel O.

Yelp
I ordered some stuff to go, but the shrimp that I had at the restaurant was totally over cooked. I had to ask twice so I got some water and it was another half hour to order something else . The service there is horrible or perhaps it was just my waitress. Also, when she brought my food, she brought the shrimp first and the side dish eight minutes later by that time I was halfway done eating my food.
google avatar

Monica G.

Yelp
ok I was kind of hesitant to come here because I wasn't in the mood to drive but Thank goodness I got my booty up and tried out this place. It was for a friends birthday so it was a party of around 15 people. First of all let me tell you something. If you're claustrophobic or dislike eating in tight spaces do not come here BUT you will be missing out on some fantastic food. This is a small restaurant and Friday & Saturday nights are packed. Tables are fit closely together & the small space between chairs barely give you any elbow room. Ok enough of that because I do love this place. There's a reason it's so packed... the food and ambiance is great. I had the Gnocchi in Vodka sauce - to die for! I also ordered the Parradilla for two which had, steak, chicken, pork ribs & sausage. All grilled and cooked to perfection! So tasty! Everyone in the party was pleased with their meal. There was a one man band playing a guitar and a keyboard and singing old Spanish hits, taking request from the audience. He was talented, fun & managed to throw some jokes in between sets. For dessert they brought over two complimentary desserts that were delicious. sweet but light, it was like a cake with fruit filling and a light frosting on top. Soo good and prices were reasonable. I was impressed with Dona Paulina and would def come back.
google avatar

Roy S.

Yelp
Great hidden gem. Good prices, great food. Prices are about $25-$30 per person, parking is available for free. Good service. The parrilla is great.

Sharol P.

Yelp
Good service, friendly staff, good food and live music, if you're looking for a nice place to kickback and relax while enjoying dinner with your family this is a good place to go to. We had a great time without breaking the bank, enjoyed the delicious food, drank some wine and took in the whole place atmosphere.. did I mention they had live music !!!

Juan . ..

Yelp
Although the food certainly was good it lacked in flavor the steak lacked in flavor, but the chicken was good. The food took a long time to be served, but it was mostly worth it. The appearance of the place was cozy, but the tables and chairs were too small and often cramped, and the paper placed on top of each table was unnecessary.
google avatar

Patricia Y.

Yelp
Well I was highly disappointed we live in Boca Ratón and drove all the way to south Miami to visit this place we have always known to be well priced, good quality and family friendly. We ordered from the menu and we ordered usually less than what we usually would order. Well we were charged on an average $2-5 over the price on the menu for everything, and then we were charged an 18% tip (which we would have been happy to pay). I didn't complained I had my family and in-laws with me and didn't wanted To make them feel bad, but I won't be coming back. Just beware and make sure the price you pay is the price on the menu.

Pablo Emilio G.

Yelp
Es un restaurante con cortes muy buenos y de costo aceptable la atención es genial y aunque su fachada no anuncia una locación de lujo se podría decir que es mejor que lo que aparenta
google avatar

Olga U.

Yelp
My first time in this amazing restaurant! We ordered the Grilled Mixed for 2 and Chicken Milanesa (Breaded). For side dishes we ordered the Russian Salad, Moro rice, and vegetables. To drink, I enjoyed a Sangria glass. I recommend it 100%. Call to make reservations!

Cary M.

Yelp
Service was very good. The vacío was cooked to perfection but unfortunately was cold. Very disappointing and a shame because the taste was excellent. Their dessert was excellent as well. I really recommend working on the temperature of the meat when served
google avatar

Sonya M.

Yelp
Very happy ambiance. Service was very good. Ludmila, our waitress was very knowledgeable. Everything she recommended was AMAZING!!! I had a blend of cab/Malbec and it was very good. Ten burrata was delicious and flavorful. My husband had the Bife de Chorizo, I tried and it was good. I ordered a pasta that is lightly filled with meat and comes with a white sauce with ham and mushrooms. I can't recall the name. I had no intentions of having pasta but asked about it by name not knowing what it was. At her suggestion I had it and don't regret it. We were there on a Friday and they had karaoke and some dancing. I recommend it.

Yelp
One of the best steakhouses I can recommend great place for a date just make reservations.

Yelp
Loved the food every time I'd go. It was so close to home, I'd go wherever I could. I brought my son and his friends to this family friendly restaurant. Sometimes, they'd be Live music, but always the best grilled Authentic food in Miami.

Yelp
This is a Uruguayan Steak House. This place has been here forever. We have come about 15 years ago but didn't impress us. Today we decided to come back to take my parents for dinner because someone told my father about this place; we ordered to start Sangria (red wine with fruit) which it was great! For dinner we ordered a Meat Parrillada for 2 that in my opinion 3 to 4 people can eat from it. that consist of about 12 to 14 oz of skirt steak, about 15 to 20 oz of short ribs, a whole open chicken breast, a morcilla (blood sausage), 1 chorizo and about 12oz of molleja (beef gizzard) everything was perfectly cooked Greatly recommended , we also ordered a chicken milanesa (breaded chicken breast) this was also very good. Side dishes were Russian potato salad, moros rice and grilled vegetables everything was good. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. We recommend this place and off course count on us to come back soon to try a seafood parrillada! Forgot to mention the the service was superb. Personally I don't eat molleja so can't tell you much about it but my wife said that it was okay. Don't expect to find a luxury or elegant place but expect to have a great dinner!!

Yelp
Doña Paulina never disappoints me. Consistently prompt, patient, courteous service. Quaint country restaurant ambience. Never a line. Never rushed. Good Latin cuisine, better than La Carreta and Versailles. I had chicken marsala. The chicken was tender and juicy, topped with rich mushroom sauce with onions. The sauce had a delicate flavor. The fried yuca was cooked perfectly. The Merlot was smooth, dry, with little after taste. Overall, good meals at reasonable prices right off Bird Road in the Westchester area of Miami. I am sure I'll be back.

Yelp
Best place in town, my favorite steak place in the corner taken care by Melissa and staff! Awesome atmosphere and service
google avatar

Mitzy R.

Yelp
We love, love, love this place. It's more of a mom and pop kind of operation. One of the owners is always on site and makes sure everything comes out perfectly. The restaurant is on a strip mall of Bird road. The local is medium sized but with plenty of tables. The menu is big and with plenty of choices. Lots of meat and pasta with a Latin twist of tostones, fried cassava, rice and beans. The empanadas as an app are delicious, the wine list is decent and the prices extremely good. My favorite dish is the spare ribs and the gnocchi. Dessert options are good too and the coffee is superb! Try it, you will not regretted.
google avatar

Xeniamaria R.

Yelp
This place has live music on Saturdays and the guy is amazing!! Our party of 21 sat in the corner room and the waitress was very attentive, the sangria was delicious and the music was fantastic. He took requests and made my grandmas 80th birthday incredibly special. I would return just for the experience of the live music. They bring out free bread baskets which are very fluffy and tasty. I ordered a boring salad for about 8.50, but the skirt steaks etc were about 19-22 dollars which is comparable to other places. My brother ordered the skirt steak and it was very well done with generous portions of side dishes. They have this really fantastic caramel dessert, would recommend!! To be honest, I wasn't incredibly impressed with the food but it was good. The ambience is what made the experience wonderful! That and the caramel cake

Brenda M.

Yelp
Great food and service. It was a very comfy place, the karaoke and shows are great too

Yelp
Loved the food, great service and cozy ambiance!!!! ssooo worth the $$. the food was delicious. I had the Parrillada for 2 and it was to die for. One of the best parrilladas I have ever had.

Yelp
Mom and pop Uruguayan steak house An absolute gem in Miami Will come back on next trip The ribeye with chimichurri was amazing

Yelp
The baked empanadas is the only thing I have tried here, usually I order to pick up. All of the baked empanadas are great! I recommend guava and cheese, ham and cheese and chicken

Yelp
First time here. First impression was a little weird we came in to a half empty restaurant stood at the door for a few minutes while the staff just kept passing by us until one server finally asked us how many and sat us down. Then we sat there for over 10 minutes and a server came to take our order and we didn't even have water or any drinks or anything on the table. We saw this a few times with different guests while here. After that everything was pretty good. Food was decent. The dessert was also good. Then again after hay we sat for another 15 min easily just waiting for the check. Service is not bad it's just disorganized I would say. I agree with some of the other comments it was a little loud.
google avatar

Kat G.

Yelp
Great food, great ambience and live music. The service was amazing, my steak wasn't medium as I ordered it and our server Yadira took care of it right away. Overall, great place, I'll come back for sure.
google avatar

Max O.

Yelp
Great little spot off Bird Road. Food is fantastic and fairly priced. The service is good. Came in on a Friday with a packed house and was sat down fairly quickly. Parking is non existent. There is a security guard in the front that acts as a valet. He was nice and after 10 minutes in the restaurant he came in and fave me my keys advising he had parked the car. We ordered a milanesa that was big and came with two sides. The pasta was fresh and the overall vibe of the place was fun. Friday's they provide live music. The only reason I'm not giving them five stars is because the waitress refused to honor a free desert yelp promotion with check in. I don't think she was familiar with the promo and I did not want to argue. We had a good time and ordered the dessert anyways.
google avatar

Jose F.

Yelp
This is not a huge fancy place, but service is good, the food is really good and Saturday night entertainment is super fun. But wait... let me explain what fun means to me: "good singer singing old Latin songs from the 60's, 70's, 80's from legends like Leo Dan, Leonardo Favio, los Iracundos". Ok about the food... their steak was made exactly at the temperature we asked for, the salad and sides were delicious. And for desert... you have to have the Chaka cake!!!
