"Donburi Factory serves traditional donburi options, like katsu don and gyudon (here labeled 'beef don'), as well as the restaurant's take on kaisen don, which the restaurant calls chirashi don — fresh raw seafood like tuna and salmon, alongside shrimp and unagi, carefully arranged on top of the rice. However, from there, the restaurant goes a little broader, offering dishes like poke bowls and teriyaki as well. Sides include dishes like inari or crispy fried chicken, as well as a variety of salads. Unlike other bowl shops, recipes are set and not customizable; owner Zhongnan Hu, who has about 30 years in the food industry nationally, developed the recipes. That being said, co-owner Olivia Nasteka says the restaurant is meant to be similarly casual and takeout friendly. 'The concept is kind of tweaked to fit the lifestyle here, in Oregon, for something a little more fast casual,' Nasteka says. 'It’s much more fast-paced in the states, so we’ve created that kind of concept, with casual dine-in as well.'" - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Not greeted on entry. Very basic layout, clean but minimal layout, only one big table. Order at register. All food served in disposable paper or plastic (not bad just a heads up). Food came quickly. Poke Don was tasty and fresh; sauces nicely, ahi was a good quality. Good variety of drinks choices. Would go back but wasn't a date night place.

Google
Literally the most PERFECT chicken katsu. Thin & crispy yet still juicy. Definitely one of the best I’ve had in town. Quick & friendly service. Excited to go back and try more of the menu!

Google
First time at this place and was pleasantly surprised. We ordered the Poke Don, Unagi and Beef, as well as some Gyoza. The poke was a 10/10, some of the freshest sushi we've had. The Unagi & beef was the perfect mix of sweet and savory as well. Everything was fresh and quick too. Would definitely come back!

As a Washington resident traveling to Portland often, I must say this is my all time favorite! The staff, atmosphere, location, and most importantly the amazing food is beyond 5 star! I will continue to come back and highly recommend the chicken katsu donburi it’s my favorite 🙂

Google
We really enjoyed this place! We had the Chicken Katsu and the Crispy Fried Chicken. They both were nice and crispy and tasted great 😋 and the portions were nice too! The person up front was really friendly and helpful. The seating area was nice and clean. We're looking forward to try more of their menu.

Google
This place is so so good! I love their dishes, especially the poke! Delicious, healthy, and reasonably priced. The customer service is 5 stars. We got our food quickly and exactly what we ordered.

Google
Small shop and found my best crispy chicken breast. Unlike other places, the chicken breast is mildly seasoned and tasty. It is crispy but not heavy. Will definitely go back for more crispy chicken! My husband is happy with his chirashi bowl. Good portion, good portion, and tasty

Google
This was our first time here. The restaurant looked very clean. I didn't get the name of the lady taking our order, but she was really nice and helpful with helping us to decide. All 4 of us enjoyed the food here. The katsu was super tender and moist and reminded me of katsu in Japan. If there's one thing I hate, its overcooked katsu, but theirs was cooked just right. I got the unagi beef don. The unagi was thick and tasty, and it was a pretty good size piece. The one thing I didn't care for was the beef. Unfortunately, it lacked flavor even with the shichimi togarashi sprinkled on top. But because everyone loved their meals and everything else was tasty, I still have 5 stars. We'll most likely be back again.

Yelp
Food was great! Tasted so fresh and the service was even better super sweet lady at the front counter even gave me extra spicy mayo to take to go. Only thing I would have liked the spicy mayo to be more spicy. Also huge servings!

Yelp
My fiance got sick from the chirashi bowl. I did not quite like my dish too much as it felt like it was lacking in flavor and quality

Yelp
I finally went! Every time I'm around that area, I usually eat at Washington Square or Hmart area but I finally went and highly recommend! Environment: it was a small place with a few tables that could sit 2-4 people. You bus your own table and get your own cups of water. Staff: patient and friendly and when we asked for plates to share she wanted to make sure if those were good enough for us. Food: I went with my friends and this is what we got to share: 1. Bulgogi donburi: to be honest, it wasn't bad but nothing was outstanding. I just appreciated that it wasn't too salty or sweet with the sauce the meat was good, not dry or rough. 2. Poke: this was good for the portion and price. There was a good amount of fish along with crab salad, seaweed salad, cucumbers, green onions, and masago. The downside was that there was way too much tuna and only a few pieces of salmon. If they could make the raw fish a bit more balanced that would've been nice. 3. Chicken katsu: they don't have pork here but their katsu was delicious. They give you two big pieces and so when you cut them up into slices, you have a lot and you can share! It was crispy, it didn't have an oily feeling and very flavorful. To be honest you don't need to add any sauces and it was already good. I enjoyed it very much and hope they keep up with the consistency! Just keep in mind, they make the food after you order so it's bound to be piping hot or fresh, which means it'll take a bit of time for them to make the food.

Yelp
This is a small spot in a small strip mall. Order at the counter, lots of take out happened while I was I hear. We sat and ate. It's not bad, it's simple and straightforward. I got a chirashi bowl, the fish was fresh. The selection was lacking however. Where it really fell short for me, there was a lack of vegetables, with the exception of some crudely enormous cut cucumber chunks. We also had a beef down bowl. The flavor was excellent. Overall for what this place is it passes the test 100% on the most important points. It's clean, it has some good service and the food is fresh enough.

Nami N.

Yelp
I came to the Donburi Factory near the hotel where I was staying. The parking lot is also around the store. There's a counter when you go inside, so you can order there. There are seats in the store, but there are limited seats. I ordered eel and beef bowl with miso soup. Water is self-service and on the left side of the counter. The bowl I ordered looked good, but the color of the sauce on it was dark, so I was curious. As I expected, the sauce was salty and there was plenty of sauce on the bottom rice. I couldn't eat eel, beef, or rice because they were too salty. If possible, I hope the sauce will be less or in a separate container.

Yelp
Not quite sure I remember how I had this place bookmarked but the fact that it's both close to home and to work makes it a place I should make it back to soon. I'm a fan of pretty much all Asian food and all the Asian grocery stores out here on the west side. At Donburi Factory, you have the option to just go to the location or order online, which is what I did. I figured I'd start with what seemed to be the most popular item, the Chicken Katsu Don and I added some gyoza as well. You can add or subtract items, like making it spicy or extra katsu sauce or even a side salad. I was not disappointed. The gyoza were made with chicken and not the usual pork, were tasty and crispy. The katsu was great! They give large portions and there was more than enough chicken and rice, plus some crunchy, pickled radish, of which I would have liked more. But yeah, I can see why it's so popular. With options like fried chicken( in addition to the katsu), beef, shrimp, salmon, tuna, poke, unagi and more, there is no shortage of choices and more reasons for me to return. Most everything is in the $15 range, so a little spendy but they give you more than enough food. I will be back soon. As always, support local and enjoy!

Judd A.

Yelp
Food tasted uninspired and bland, bowls were 85% white rice. Witnessing how the guy handled raw chicken in the kitchen, however was the true horror show. Using his bare, unwashed hands he shows his whole arms, elbow deep in the bowl of chicken then proceeds to touch every piece of equipment in sight. It's only a few minutes later when he realized I stare in disbelief that he finally decides to wash his hands. He spent a whooping 5 seconds using no soap no nothing. If this is how they behave when guest are present and watching, imagine what they do when no one is around. Fingers crossed we won't get sick

Ron B.

Yelp
My Go to whenever I'm in the mood for poke. I go here at least once a month. I would highly recommend this place for your next lunch or dinner.

Deb F.

Yelp
I can't pass up an Asian rice bowl so I knew I had to try Donburi Factory. They are a very small restaurant and I think our party of 3 got the only 4-top; all the other tables only sat 2. But they did a steady takeout business and had a few customers dining in too. We got gyoza, fried chicken, chicken marsh, and teriyaki chicken. All very good but the fried chicken was the best, in my opinion. Served over rice with some sauce. The spicy mayo was the tastiest and least sweet. Ambiance was a little lacking but the food was a winner.

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Came here for dinner on a Tuesday night. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and gave us some great recommendations. We ended up ordering the poke Donburi, beef/unagi donburi, inari and a side of crispy fried chicken. All the food was freshly prepared and quite tasty, and the fried chicken was well seasoned; I'd probably come back here just for that! The donburi rice was just plain rice, a little bit disappointing if you're hoping for sushi rice. The atmosphere was boring, but clean and tidy. Everything came in plastic to go dishes, even though we were eating in. It seems like most people get their food for takeout. A great place to get tasty fresh food, but not a place to eat at for a cozy atmosphere.

Bebe C.

Yelp
Simple and straightforward, went to eat in our neighborhood with elderly parents Counter service with small seating tables and prices were reasonable Mom Liked the tofu and we had the chicken...all were tasty

Amy C.

Yelp
First time here and business was open--while having their septic tank cleaned! Absolutely disgusted and the team didn't seem like it was any big deal. Haven't even tried the food - had gotten it to go and now afraid to even eat it after seeing some of these reviews.

Jeff M.

Yelp
Mediocre. But as the only donburi place in the Portland metro area, unless you been to LA or Japan, how would you know? Beef was dry and miso soup felt like its was made from a dry freeze package. Wouldn't try again.

Chanh V.

Yelp
The Don is very good, taste perfect. However Miso soup is very salty and color doesn't look like what miso looks like.

Evelyn B.

Yelp
"I just moved to Tigard, and I'm so glad I found healthy food here. I ordered poke don, and it's a decent poke for $15.99.

Belen L.

Yelp
Customer service was alright . The girl didn't seem enthusiastic or happy to be at work . But besides that the place looked nice and clean ! The cook really did some art while creating our beautiful meals. He also seemed super nice I said good bye and thank you as we left . My brother was over the moon and in love with his meal as well ! I'd never tried Unagi and OH MY GOODNESS it melted in my mouth . For everything was a little less than 50$ not bad ( we also got cannes sodas) . Would definitely come back!

Holly T.

Yelp
We live down the street from here so we've driven by quite a few times. We were feeling like a rice-y dish tonight so finally decided on this place. I ordered the unagi beef son and my husband ordered the poke don. Mine came with one piece of eel, and it was excellent. Very tasty with a little sauce. My beef had a dry spice on it and no sauce. I prefer a little sauce, but I'm not sure what's traditional so no complaints there. There were some large pieces of beef in it. And I was only able to finish half my bowl. It's a bit pricey, but I will get two full meals out of it. My husband enjoyed his and while he could finish his, he wasn't left hungry. He asked for it without salad, but it came with it anyway. He still liked it. We also ordered gyoza. Nothing special. Just normal gyoza. But tasty indeed. Overall, it was pretty tasty. We'd go again.

shop l.

Yelp
waited for about 45 min for an order we were already late to pick up. Vowed never to come back. after about 6 months decided to attempt to order door dash. Two chicken katsu donburi bowls, one order of fried chicken, and one order of gyoza - all came without sauce. who eats any of this food without sauce? what a waste. definitely never going back.

Miki M.

Yelp
Came here for lunch on a weekday and wanted to check this place out. I love donburis so I wanted to see how they made theirs. It's counter service so ordering is simple and quick. The restaurant itself is small and has limited seating, so it seems that it's meant for mainly takeout orders. I got a Spicy Tuna Don and my family got the Chirashi Don. The chirashi bowl looked pretty filling but my spicy tuna bowl wasn't very full. The flavor was good but I had to eat the appetizers like the edamame and salad to feel full. One suggestion to add to the menu would be a miso soup as a side or offer a hot tea as a beverage option. Miso soup pairs well with donburis. Also I wanted something warm to soothe my throat but there wasn't anything to help it.

Deb K.

Yelp
Wish I could write a better review but this is the best I can say... A little pricey for a "take out" type of place. If you want to eat here be aware as seating is limited and very tight. We order two chicken katsu dons and two water bottles. Total was $32. If this was a "restaurant" or food was served in real bowls, I would have been happier but they are served in small plastic bowls, the kind you'd expect at a food court type of take out place. I guess the pdx.eater.com article over hyped a bit and my expectations were a lot higher. I really had my hopes up high but truth be said, this is a really small joint and best for take out lunch at most. No hot drinks and you have to pay for miso soup. They only have cold bottled drinks. Chicken katsu don and all other bowls are NOT Donburi so misleading. See my photo. It is a five inch bowl with one inch of rice and chicken katsu patties on top...

Kimberly K.

Yelp
Cute Japanese bowl restaurant, many options on rice. Super quick, efficient service. The eating area was meticulously clean with lots of two person tables so it would not be awkward to eat solo here. We plan on visiting again in the future!

Sylvia C.

Yelp
Simple and clean flavors for the Donburi bowls. I got the Chirashi Don and added a miso soup and side of fried chicken - like chicken tenders fried in tempura batter with a drizzling of spicy Mayo, it's tasty but not karaage. Everything was good, and worth trying out but it was pricier than some of the other Poké places. The chirashi Don was a decent amount of food, it's not covered in sauce like some other places so you put soy sauce on it with wasabi to taste. I believe you can ask for a side of spicy Mayo or ponzu as well. I haven't tried the cooked Donburi bowls so I'm reserving my judgment until I try more of their menu. But here's a short list with my initial observations: - Limited indoor seating (similar to nearby Mugen ramen) - All the food is served in to-go containers, even if you're dining in - No hot drinks, like hot green tea - Plenty of parking and not too busy - It's closer to the Beaverton / Murray-Scholls area than many other Poké places **My wish: Would be amazing if they joined forces with Mugen to offer Donburi and Ramen!

Mishka H.

Yelp
My friend invited me to eat here and I was so happy I did try there delicious food Everything was so good starting from service atmosphere and food quality. Will be coming back here Thank you

Jason T.

Yelp
Come for the noms, stay for the noms. Actually you should take it away if you have a larger group because the shop is a bit small. the portions felt pretty big to me and my party, we had the unagi and beef bowl, poke bowl and the katsu bowl. All really good for the price and speed. I think this would be a really great lunch spot to grab and go. Would definitely come back--the staff was also incredibly kind. Thank you Donburi Factory!

Eddie M.

Yelp
Ordered Katsu bowls as well as chirashi bowls. The food and service were great! They care enough to separate the hot and cold dishes in separate bags. I was very impressed by that. Thank you!!!

Mehreen K.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from this spot. It's cute and small the staff is friendly. We ordered 2 of the crab and shrimp salad and the chicken katsu don. It was a light dinner. The portions are adequate and the items were fresh. Did it wow - not a lot of wow factor. The chicken katsu don rice was not flavorful. I would have preferred sushi rice. The salad was ok a little too much seaweed that overpowered it. The crab tasted more like krab. Will try some other dishes in the restaurant rather than takeout. I always want to give new spots a try.

Taylor M.

Yelp
Went with three people. We all had different items. Everything was just okay. Granted, the prices were reasonable, but I'd rather pay more for higher quality ingredients.

Elizar M.

Yelp
The chicken katsu was resized well, battered perfectly, and double fire without being over fried. Overall a great experience and will definitely come back. Side note: the customer service associate tonight, Friday evening, is one of the nicest people I've ever met

Gerard Y.

Yelp
They certainly didn't hold back on the unagi serving size. That alone deserves the 5 star rating. It was a lot and I was satisfied. A small amount of seating inside but I went during a weekday evening and I was the only one there. Service was straightforward. I ordered at the counter and they brought my order to my table

Noel A.

Yelp
Quick and friendly service, partnered with delicious food. The poké bowl and the crispy fried chicken are always a go to. I have been here a couple times and have sat inside and outside, both spaces are clean and pleasant.

Cathy P.

Yelp
Oh my! The Donburi Factory is dangerously too close to where I live and now that I know about it, I will be a regular. This is Japanese comfort food: rice bowls with meat, seafood, tofu, sashimi, poke & sides like gyoza, edamame, and "karaage" (crispy fried chicken bites). It opened a little over two months ago and I'm happy to see the mostly -and well-deserved- positive reviews. Inside is a bit sparse and quite small but very clean. Friendly and attentive staff too. Some reviewers say the prices are too high but the fish IS sushi grade and that and all seafood, is expensive anywhere, plus everything is fresh and made to order. I think the prices are pretty fair. I tried the Salmon Poke Don ($16.99): salmon, crab salad, cucumber, seaweed salad, romaine lettuce, and masago with your choice of sauce: sweet and spicy poke sauce or ponzu sauce (a citrusy soy sauce). I asked for no cucumbers over all salad, no rice, and the poke sauce. It was a perfect portion and absolutely delicious. My husband had the Chirashi Don ($18.99): tuna, salmon, albacore, unagi, shrimp, minced tuna, masago, wasabi, ginger, with soy sauce on the side. He also had rice which was not as sweet as other sushi rice (and that's a Good Thing). We also had two orders of edamame ($9.98), a miso soup ($2.50) and a two-piece inari sushi ($3.99). I love fresh ginger and the inari came with a huge scoop of it and I was in heaven! I'd love to see some outside seating as spring and summer approaches and a nice hot tea offering of some kind. Overall excellent and I highly recommend Donburi Factory.

Joanna G.

Yelp
My husband surprised me with a lunch from here (I've been wanting to try it) and it was very very good! Got the unagi and shrimp tempura bowl - good quality, big portion (couldn't finish it all), really good price (given prices these days) and yummy sauces (got a side of unagi and spicy Mayo sauce). He also got me a scoop of crab salad added, so I like that there's the ability to customize. No frills, simple but delicious - if that's what you're looking for that's what I got. Not a single thing I would change!

Vic W.

Yelp
The portion is bigger than I expected. It's pretty yummy and the rice is so good. The environment and service both are welcoming. I will come back

Brigette A.

Yelp
Just the place we have been wanting and looking for! I got the spicy salmon donburi. It was really good, salmon tasted fresh. My husband got the beef donburi. You know it's a good amount of food & it's really good when he forced himself to finish it. Definitely recommend and will be back!

Daniela M.

Yelp
Our first time here on a Wednesday night at almost closing time but the staff was so nice and let us dine in. This is what we got in the order of our preference: 1. Spicy Salmon Don: love the flavor and the spicy sauce but the texture was a bit mushy for me. I would like this rolled in a small crunchy seaweed sheet 2. Tofu Teriyaki Don: so crispy from the outside and soft in the inside. Came w a side of sauce for dipping 3. Poke Don: fresh seafood but wish there was equal portions of tuna and salmon and a little more sauce. All the ingredients were super fresh and tasted really healthy. We're happy we gave this new spot a try. Overall, we would recommend this place. We'll be back and try the other dishes on the menu.

Jordan C.

Yelp
This will be my new lunch spot while at work! The fish is super fresh and you can order the bowls on salad instead of just rice

Milo W.

Yelp
The food is always incredible. I recommend the Tofu Don or Poke Bowl. Everyone who works here is super nice and they give you a Hershey's kiss after your meal. It's also very cozy and quiet inside.

Jeff C.

Yelp
I had a chirashi bowl. It was somewhat pricey for the size of the portion. The quality the fish was good, but the eel was pretty bad. Menu selections weren'yuk abundant.

Tiffany S.

Yelp
Very overpriced for what you get. Over $30 for two dishes! And the gyudon didn't even come with pickled ginger. Not very authentic. Service was strange and the tables only seat 2 people. Much easier to make gyudon at home! Also when I asked for "gyudon" they didn't know what that was! They only know what "beef don" is, haha!

Alfred O.

Yelp
Great quality food especially the chicken katsu bowl!! I will definitely go back to try their other items. My friends had the spicy tuna bowl and spicy salmon bowl and they said it was great also. The quality of the fish was very good.

Kate C.

Yelp
A small little restaurant with counter service. Probably best to order to go as there is very limited seating. Overall, customer service was nice. The lady was super friendly. She even carried our takeout order to us vs calling out our order. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken don and I got the unagi-gyudon. The food was delicious. I do find it pricy for what you get. But 2023 and inflation.... They gave me the option to make my dish spicy which I think was just them adding pepper flakes. I found the spice very mild and tolerable. The meat was tender and marinated well. I do wish they cut the pieces smaller as they were giant chunks of meat stuck together. It would have been nice to have an egg with my gyudon. Rice was a bit too soggy for my taste. Overall, I would like to comeback. Wish they had cooked options available for poke as I'm not a fan of raw fish.

Wayne M.

Yelp
Great and friendly service, good selection of food. Fresh and tasty ingredients! Looking forward to going back to try other dishes.

Jodi H.

Yelp
What a happy accident to find this place! We were going to try another restaurant but they were closed and we were hungry, so we decided try it out. I have to say, I'm not one to go to a restaurant when they are new, I like to wait until they work out the kinks for a few months. But these guys know what they are doing! We started with the Gyoza, it comes with a dipping sauce that was amazing! What we loved about it was it wasn't too sweet, they make it from scratch! The chicken teriyaki don also was not too sweet but was very flavorful. These guys know how to cook chicken it was tender and flavorful and our crispy fried chicken don was no exception. Service was friendly and food was amazing. We will definitely be back!

Andy V.

Yelp
The food here was great and tasted very fresh, I was very happy with how it all tasted. The salmon and tuna slices were really big which was great for the price. While I would give this place a 5 stars, the sauces were not the best, the eel sauce and the spicy mayo were both too sweet which made me not want to use them when I usually love my sauces.

Johnny C.

Yelp
Their chicken teriyaki is really delicious. I went in 5 minutes before they closed, which I didn't check, and they still provided me excellent food and service. I highly recommend!

Carol M.

Yelp
I had the unagi beef teriyaki bowl delivered. It was a generous portion and full of lean and tasty beef. The unagi was also flavorful and had good texture.

Spencer G.

Yelp
Affordable and great portions. Friendly staff! I got the chicken teriyaki and enjoyed it. I will be going again to try something new.

Bennette I.

Yelp
We were looking for fast eats after my daughter track meet and while stopped at the light on Scholls Ferry, we saw the exterior sign. We decided we'd try it out for dinner. My daughter ordered the crispy chicken and myself, the tofu with a side of edamame. The chicken was perfect, crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The portions were cut in perfect large bites with 2 flavorful mayo and sriracha flavored dipping sauce. The proportion of chicken to rice was on point. The tofu was crispy on the outside and silky soft on the inside. I asked for spicy and it was just perfect. Both bowls came with some greens (lettuce), almost as a garnish. My only recommendation would be to offer some veggies in the bowl - maybe match stick carrots, green onion, or mushrooms. Edamame portion was great, maybe an extra shake of salt! If you're looking for basic rice dish with good portions this place is it. The interior seating is pretty small and tight, 5-6 two-tops and counter seating. Staff was pleasant, no wait and fairly quick service.

Jon S.

Yelp
So, I paid a second visit to the Donburi Factory yesterday just to see if my dining experience would match the one I had the first time around...and they didn't disappoint! Same quality food, same friendly greeting and attentive service. The restaurant was full of customers of all ages and the takeout orders were really keeping the kitchen busy! I can certainly see why! As Arnold would say: "I'll be back"!
