Donda Review - Copenhagen - The Infatuation

"There are very few restaurants in Denmark, a country with a serious aversion to spice, that serve dishes with any real heat to them. But Donda, and their aguachile with haddock, blackberry, aji limo, horseradish crema, and glasswort, are working to change that. It arrives at the start of the six-course set menu and sets the tone for the rest of the meal, which is strongly influenced by coastal Latin America. This Christianshavn spot focuses heavily on fish and seafood, cooking Danish hamachi and fjord shrimp over charcoals in the open kitchen and serving them with árbol mayo and guajillo salsa. Even the cocktails are spicy, as the bar uses jalapeños when mixing their margaritas. The restaurant is also located among the city's iconic skyline, which makes it’s a great area to take a post-dinner walk and spot the various towers, including the twisted dragon claws of the old stock exchange building." - Sorcha McCrory

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This place really impressed us! The flavors were fresh and creative, putting a fun twist on traditional Latin American dishes while still keeping their essence. We enjoyed it so much that, even though we weren’t hungry anymore, we ordered three more dishes just to try more of the menu. The staff made the experience even more special — warm, welcoming, and full of stories. We ended up chatting about life in Copenhagen and the restaurant scene there, which made us feel like we were having dinner with friends rather than just at a restaurant. If they are not closed on the second day and we are not leaving town, we’d be back the very next day to try the rest of the mains. Wishing the whole team all the best — and fingers crossed for a pop-up in Berlin someday! 🌮✨

The Restaurant is small and cozy, reminded us of similar places in New York. Indeed the food could also be served there, a mix if southern American flavors, prepared with the local palate in mind and not with what we believe e.g. Peruvian food would taste like. The service was attentive and explained very well what we were eating and also open to my suggestion ... which was about the wine pairing. We would have expected much better "pairing" with the diversity of flavors but also better quality of the wines per se. If I was living in DK I would be more than happy to stop by and provide suggestions - maybe someone can pitch in to help. We will come again, for sure (!) and stay with beers or simply pick a bottle of wine from the menu.

Donda Deli offered us an excellent culinary experience featuring diverse flavors from South America. We were pleasantly surprised by how much we loved the unique combinations. Every dish on the menu was enjoyable, and we would definitely recommend this restaurant.

We had an awesome evening at this restaurant with South American inspired food. The taste was authentic and not too catered for tourists with a bit of heat without being overpowering. The service was amazing and we followed the recommendations of the restaurant. The wine menu is not large but covers a broad selection with a focus on South American wines.

Absolutely amazing! Such a great flavor journey! Wonderful service, good drinks and the food is to die for. We took the set menu and everything was fantastic, but the clams in mole were one of the best dishes I have had in months. Definitely recommend for a cozy night :)

Amazing food, please try the whole menu when you’re here. The seats at the kitchen were also very nice. Having the chef making the food and explaining the dishes was great. Lovely tostadas, amazing tacos and the mussels were to die for. The tiraditos with shrimp and salsa macha, Oeee, it was something special!

Very intimate and chill atmosphere! Delicious food and friendly service. Sounds like the recipe for a five star review? Well, it is. Good selection of both natural and “normal” wine - food to make your mouth water.. as you say. While in this neighborhood I’d recommend grabbing both a pre- and post-beer from Café Eric; a very local pub!
