"This Muslim-Chinese hot pot specialist will suit those who appreciate the slightly musty flavor of lamb. In addition to a variety of mutton cuts including shoulder and chuck roll, are things like duck gizzards and beef tripe. Opt for one of the house-made dipping sauces." - Cathy Chaplin

Hidden little gem in San Gabriel. Dong Lai Shun started in Beijing back in 1903 and expanded to the US. Their marketing presence is minimal so I don’t think many people know about them, but they’re a major hotpot chain in the East. The soup base isn’t overly spicy so you can actually enjoy the taste of the food along with the added taste of goji and jujubes. The cuts of lamb are sliced well (not too thick) and the portions are generous. 4 out of 5 stars.

Yes, over priced. $110 for two people. Yes, it's a maze getting in. Read each sign carefully. Valet parking is mandatory, sorry not with we it is not. I don't trust others to drive my 30 year old classic car. First off, clean off your front steps. Gross!!! Do some basic cleaning before you open for the day. Inside the ambience is nice. Very friendly and helpful staff. All of them are top rated. Fast, courteous service. Nice tables but the chairs are anything but comfortable. Yes, they want you to leave. The seafood was good except for the fake crab. The vegetables were good. The beef was an abomination, why would anyone ruin a perfectly good steak, such as a ribeye by slicing it thin and boiling it in water for four seconds? The Chinese don't know what a good piece of beef can taste like. Yes, boil it, let all the flavor go into the water, then dip it in a sauce that is reminiscent of peanut butter. Eat it that way. A PB&J that I make for a five year old would taste better to me. To top it off, pay $20 dollars for, after it is sliced razor thin, may account for two ounces of meat. What a rip off. Yes, roll it up make it look nice before, seeing it waste away in boiling water. What a laugh. If you want to taste a steak bring it to my house I will grill it for you. Will I eat here again? Never, and never will I waste my time on eating anything called hotpot again. A bologna sandwich and piece of cheese would have been better. And about $109 cheaper. To sum it up, an okay restaurant but a bastardization of food. Is this really what they do to food in China? No wonder Asians are so thin, they are half starving to death.
