"Hunan cuisine is a hot (and spicy) entry to the area’s Chinese restaurant scene, and Edmonds’ Dong Ting Chun is proving to be a buzzy lunch and dinner spot. (There’s a location in Redmond as well.) Fish dishes are featured on the extensive menu, including its namesake: a whole fish steamed with red chiles and onions. Pumpkin pancakes, braised pork, and preserved egg are prominent as well, and the mortar-and-pestle–pounded eggplant with bell pepper and century egg is a must-order." - Jay Friedman

Google
An absolute must-visit for authentic flavors! Every dish we tried was outstanding—the tofu and chives were perfectly seasoned, the lamb hotpot was rich and comforting, the fish was incredibly fresh, and the fried rice was flavorful and well-balanced. The wait staff were exceptionally attentive, ensuring a seamless dining experience. If you’re looking for high-quality ingredients and top-notch service, this place delivers!

Google
Have been a regular customer. We enjoyed the spicy duck blood and sautéed beans. The chicken soup was a bit bland - pork stomach was tough. The braised pork is Hunan flavor maybe - different than what I expect.

Google
Fish smelled really bad, was not edible. Complained about the fish to the waiter, refused to refund. The other dishes were either too salty or too sweet. I won’t come back again.

Google
This is my absolute favorite Chinese restaurant. Everything they have is absolutely delicious! Not for bland people though - lots of their food is spicy and their menus don't have detailed English descriptions so you'll have to come in as an adventurous eater. But if you do like actually good food, you'll be rewarded! Been here 4 times and everything we've ever gotten was mind-blowingly delicious. Their spicy boiled fish and their stir fried mushrooms are my person favorites.

Google
We got their signature fish which was really bad and had a fishy taste. Looked really unappetizing too. As an asian who has ate many whole fishes this one was below average. Their service was really bad. There were 2 waiters with like 70-80% of the restaurant filled. Their fermented tofu was really really good, though, I'll have to say. That probably saved them from having a 2 star. Overall, you can go there but don't buy the fish. Be careful with what you order because the prices are steep.

Google
This is the most delicious Hunan cuisine I've ever had in Seattle. 🥺 It's fresh, fragrant, spicy, and not greasy at all. I really love their deep-fried stinky tofu.

Google
Dong Ting Chun delivers some of the best Hunan food in the Seattle area. Their Signature Steam Whole Fish is a must-try—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly spicy. The balance of heat and umami is spot on, making it one of the most authentic dishes you’ll find outside of China. Service is quick and friendly, and the flavors are bold and uncompromising. If you love real Hunan cuisine, this is the place to go!

Google
My first time trying Hunan cuisine and it was so delicious. For Chinese food, Cantonese cuisine is my go to and I’ve dabbled with Szechuan here and there. Hunan food is a great mixture of both, good spicy and flavorful food. There’s actually so many dishes on this menu that I want to try next time. I loved the Braised Pork Belly with buns. I’ll be sure to try more fish and pork dishes when coming back. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking to expand your palette!

Yelp
EN: High quality Hunan-style cuisine from an accredited chef. 中文:对于这位厨师来说,旧标准和新风格都不是问题。FOH 员工友好且能力出众。 Just revisited recently (6/22/24). Tried some new dishes: 农家小炒肉 Farmer's Pork - stir-fried sliced pork with leeks and green shishito peppers in a sauce of wine, garlic and soy - 用酒、大蒜和酱油调味,炒猪肉片和韭菜、青椒。味道好极了,还会再点。 黑色经典臭豆腐 Black Classic Stinky Tofu - Fermented tofu curds with garlic in a spicy sauce, topped with dried salted radish. For the uninitiated, stinky tofu is similar in flavor profile to a Limburger or Epoisses cheese. - 发酵豆腐加大蒜和辣酱,上面撒上干腌萝卜。我的中国家人来自江南。下次我们会加倍订购。 擂辣椒茄子皮蛋 Mashed Eggplant, Green Pepper and Century Eggs - This is served in a big mortar with a ceramic pestle to smash it all together before serving. I've had this before, in China, and this was just as good. Very spicy-hot. - 湖南名菜,烹饪非常精良。 As always, a great experience. This place is a local favorite with good reason. Ambiance is clean and spacious. The murals, of street scenes, are exactly appropriate and will make guests feel like they have been transported to a town square in China. Restrooms are generally tidy as well. 厕所很干净。

Yelp
I usually get the Boiled Spicy Fish here and it is excellent...period. Decided to try the Spiced Beef Shank...was not tender as I would have thought and cost $20 for a medium container...seemed overpriced to me for that...so don't recommend that...unless you get more when you dine in. I saw huge platters and bowls for those dining in...and I've usually had really good experiences.

Yelp
This is my first time trying Hunanese cuisine and it was a delicious experience. We ordered the mashed eggplant, pork intestine pot, gold medal stir fried beef, signatured steamed fish with noodles, and mao xue wang. I highly recommend getting the mashed eggplant as it has so much umami with the green pepper adding a bit of spicy and century egg for texture. It was a wonderful combination. It was a dish that everyone loved. The pork intestine tasted very clean and no gamy at all. Personally, I think the stir-fried beef had good flavor but it was sliced pretty thin so not quite worth the value. The mao xue wang had a mixed of various ingredients in the pot, such as tripe, spam, shrimp, and vegetables. I really like the tripe with crunchy texture. In addition to the eggplant, I also recommend the steamed fish as it was delicious and very filling. They gave us a huge bowl of noodles and it soaks up all the flavor in the sauce. When I was there, they only had two servers and they were busy. However, they were still good to check on us periodically and provide additional water. It is a great place to come with a group of friends or family to share different dishes.

Yelp
This Dong Ting Chun in Edmonds located in a strip mall is spacious, comfy and relaxing. We arrived in the early evening just before the restaurant gets busy. We ordered quite a few dishes. Started with the slow cooked chicken and pork stomach soup, very tasty, layers of rich good flavor, with chinese herbs packed in this soup, but the down side was temperature was not hot enough, only luke warm. Then came the mashed eggplant with presereved egg, with garlic and mild spice, very inviting. The intestine / stinky tofu was mediocore, and the particular smell of the tofu wasn't profound and acceptable in taste. Beef chow-mein was delicious, very nicely executed with the aroma of wok cooking. Highlight of the evening was the steamed flounder with minced garlic and Hunan chilis, cooked just right, very tender and succulent, seasoned perfectly, lightly spicy and it's sauce was a good match, went very well with rice! As our dinner was in process, the large dining hall was gradually filling up and people were waiting to be seated. The entrance area became crowded. With adequate servers, the service was very courteous, attentive and on point. This meal was my first experience of Hunan cusine, known for it's spicy cooking method, but the business should adjust the degree of spice to accommodate the customers. I strongly recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
This is a place to come if I want legit food that tastes like restaurants in China. In fact even the outside of this places smells like streets with restaurants in China. A shout out to those who know what I'm talking about! Anyway we always get: - eggplant and century egg dish - Bone-in Chicken with Pickled Chili Dry Pot (Be careful! The yummy chicken is in tiny pieces that have bones, the flavor definitely makes working through the bones WORTH IT!!). I've tried to find these pickles everywhere but can't seem to find them so basically I can't get this dish/flavor other than at this restaurant - dry pot cauliflower - stir fried cabbage Spice relative comparison: Sriracha doesn't taste spicy to me maybe a .5 out of 5 spice level but we get everything mild here. I've occasionally forgotten to reduce the heat level from their regular spice level to mild and it will burn.

Yelp
There's a joke in the Asian food community that 3.5 stars is the best possible rating because the target audience typically doesn't use Yelp and the clientele that does is unable to appreciate the exotic flavor profile. That definitely applies here as the food here is far better than the ratings suggest. Just looking at the pictures, the food here passes the eye test and is crisply cooked and sharply flavored. The gold-medal stir fried pepper beef in particular was one of the best dishes I've ever tasted. It had a fragrant blend of fresh crunchy aromatics with thinly sliced meat that had good texture and light seasoning. They let the fresh vegetables and peppers do the talking here without too much salt, sauce or chili oil and it really feels like eating a home cooked dinner out in the Chinese countryside. The only potential problem I identified during my visit was a lack of flavor profile diversity. I ordered two items that should have been very different in taste and presentation (stir fried beef and mao's braised pork) but while the beef was spot on for what I expected it to be, the braised pork was 80% similar in taste and appearance to the beef dish. It had the same aromatic vegetables and peppers and a similar tasting light brown sauce. They seemed almost like the same dish with different protein substituted in, and while that's a shortcut I take all the time as a home cook, I expect a little better from a professional kitchen. The pork belly should be much more umami and a little sweeter by comparison but I found the aftertaste of both to be almost the exact same. This meant I was unable to palate cleanse or switch flavor profiles despite ordering two nominally different items. I'll have to come back a few more times to see if this cooking method uniformity extends to other dishes too. If you just want the best xiao chao rou in town (farmer's pepper pork) or the beef equivalent I got, this is an authentic human experience and a 6/5. The jury is still out on the rest of the menu because I haven't seen evidence they can dl anything different well yet, but they're off to a good start.

Yelp
They have family style Chinese restaurant menu. Wild pepper beef stir fry- was super super spicy. I assume they used serano pepper. They warned me that is spicy and oh boy it's like nuclear fire spicy. But at the same time it was very flavorful and delicious. Egg plant dish- is one of the must. It came out with century egg in pestle. You can eat it as or mash them a bit to mix. Either way, it is really good on top of rice Fried rice - was alright. I didn't see this was special but still good. I would like to try out other dishes later like clay pot fish or intestine menus.

Yelp
First time here. Impressed. Service is good. Very accommodating. Food taste really good. Definitely will come back to try more.

Yelp
Fast sitting down for sunday lunch at 1pm. Large portion, good price, yummy food. I like stir fried garlic cautiflower the most. Mapo tpfu was ok, not the best. Praised pork belly was bery soft and melting in your mouth.

Yelp
We ate at Dong Ting Chun because we had driven by the restaurant many times and wanted to learn more about it. Dong Ting Chun is a Hunanese Chinese restaurant serving very traditional Hunanese food. The restaurant is plain with tables and chairs and Chinese decoration. Many items are very spicy and strange to western tastes but very well done. We tried stir fried beef and mashed eggplant with green peppers and century eggs from the Hunanese section of the menu and tea smoked duck from the special items on the front of the menu. Our server spoke English well and was very helpful. She made suggestions on dishes to try. She showed us how to mash the eggplant and eggs. It was very good. The menu is not very informative but when we said we had never eaten Hunanese food, we were given a picture menu that was helpful. The food was good and the eggplant was excellent. The beef was spicy with lots of vegetables. The duck was well done and a wide mix of parts in addition to more commonly served pieces. Rice was extra ($1.50) and a pot of tea was ($5). We had pumpkin cake for desert and dinner was $88. We had lots of food and took home duck and beef for another meal. We had a pleasant and interesting meal and would like to try more of the dinner items with a larger group. The eggplant is good for a repeat for sure. Nearly all customers were Asian which is a good sign. We need to try more items as many things and cooking styles we have not tasted before.

Yelp
We ordered DoorDash from here and noticed that the short ribs dish we saw all over Yelp wasn't on the menu, so we called and asked if it was on the DoorDash menu. The woman we talked to said the ribs weren't on the menu but we could order something that's the same price and she would make it for us! It was so nice for them to do that for us and those ribs were delicious! They were perfectly tender and seasoned. We also got the eggplant which was delicious and the pork belly. The pork belly had some drier meats and wasn't as good as I hoped, also the white rice that we got was probably a day old and pretty dry. Overall, I thought everything was pretty good and it's really good authentic Chinese food AND the customer service was amazing!

Yelp
FOOD. Freaking delicious. We ordered the garlic achoy, crab fried rice and black bean spareribs and we ate EVERYTHING. No leftovers. All dishes were tasty. SERVICE. Quick, fast and pleasant. AMBIANCE. Clean, minimal, good for groups, not loud. We'll be back ... hopefully it'll be just as good.

Yelp
I have been interested in this place for a while. For some reason, every time I came, it was either closed or too full to accommodate us. Finally, I was able to get in to try it out. We arrived on a Saturday evening. Upon our arrival, a table was just cleaned up, so we were very lucky to get in. The staff was friendly, though busy. It seems that they were understaffed. There were only two people dealing with all the table orders and to-go orders. I couldn't see how many people there were working in the kitchen. However, when we had any eye contact, they would come to our table immediately, so I would say the service was not bad. The prices of the menu were generally higher than I had expected, but okay I understand the inflation problem, so I don't want to complain. We ordered stinky tofu with pork intestine, sour and spicy shredded potato, Mao's braised pork belly, pork bone soup with sparerib and lotus, and rice to go with all the dishes. The soup was okay. It's like what we could make at home, so I wasn't impressed. Mao's braised pork belly was delicious! It's a bit spicy, but I think its spicy level should be manageable for most people. Stinky tofu with pork intestine was somewhat disappointing. I almost couldn't see stinky tofu, and I later realized that it was cut into tiny pieces. Maybe they did that to reduce the smell, but for stinky tofu lovers, this wouldn't be satisfying. Sour and spicy shredded potato was also okay. Nothing special about it. All the tableware was disposable, so it made me feel that I was eating at a food court rather than at a restaurant. (Many food courts in fact use non-disposable tableware.) That gave us a cheap feeling, but it wasn't cheap at all. Hmm, I am not sure if I would like to go back again. I am on the fence since I do like the Mao's braised pork. I may just order to go next time.

Yelp
It's greater to see robust customer orders during this pandemic hard time. Although I understand why restaurants switching to plastic plates and forks, but it;s just not environmentally sustainable. I wish there are other ways to handle this. This is my first time trying Hunan dishes. I do like a few dishes but I think i need some time to get used to the flavor and color coordination.. Chinese usually place lots of attention to flavor, color, smell and it will take me a while to accustom to many of Hunan dishes that are cooked in similar dark sauces. In general, I will try it again. Next time, I will try to order other dishes that will compliment each other better.

Yelp
Not great but also not bad. The layout of the restaurant is a bit odd with a large un-seatable in the middle, but we were able to get a table on the side fairly quickly. The menu had a few items just crossed off or a sticky note saying "out" and everything had a spicy mark next to it. We settled on a few dishes, fried rice, pickled fish filets, braised short rib and egg, and a tofu dish. The food came out super fast which was awesome, since when you dine out with a toddler speedy service is key. The food, overall was average with the favorite being the braised short rib with egg. It had a nice garlic flavor and beef was tender. As for service we had to wave down the waiter for water, extra napkins, the bill and basically anything we needed. Overall, like I said it wasn't bad but wasn't good and with many great Chinese restaurants on the east side there are other options.

Yelp
I've been here a couple of times with coworkers and have always enjoyed the food. I was super excited to bring my fiance here. We came last Saturday morning, around 11:15 AM. There were only a couple of people in there, and we were seated immediately. Service was adequate, nothing super friendly. Pretty standard for a Chinese restaurant. We got the Farmer's Pepper and Pork, the Eggplant and Century Egg, and the mapo tofu. We also got 2 bowls of rice. The food came out fairly quickly and honestly was delicious. We ate it up. We took home a lot of leftovers as well. Then a couple of hours later, we both started feeling queasy. Our stomachs were pretty upset. Dong Ting Chun was the only thing we had eaten that morning (long morning of wedding errands), and nothing we got was spicy. The mapo tofu wasn't that spicy when we ate it, and we are pretty use Mapo Tofu spice. We honestly did not feel good for at least another 36 hours. It really put a hamper on the rest of our day. We have pretty strong stomachs and have never eaten at a restaurant in Seattle that made us feel like that. We were super disappointed as the food itself was good, but knowing that it's probably not too clean, we threw away all the leftovers. And honestly, the waiter/waitress kept dropping stuff on us/our table. They just said sorry and walked away. Like gee, thanks guys. I also talked to my coworker who comes here pretty often, and she told me that her stomach sometimes hurts after eating here as well. So..... we won't be back here, and I will highly suggest you go somewhere else.

Victor D.

Yelp
Came here after some failed crabbing experience. Came here to get the cauliflower dish (since that's a classic hunan dish), got their namesake fish, and a short rib and egg dish. The cauliflower dish was great. I think the pork pieces could've been a bit crispier to really change the texture, but that's just nitpicking. Overall classic taste with good execution. The fish was surprisingly really good. In the photo there were lots of chilies, but the actual dish didn't have that much. There was tons of fish and it was quite tender. The short rib and egg dish was interesting and super good as something you just ladle over your bowl of rice. Very simple, but also very homey. Overall I thought it was a good place and would come back

Ashif D.

Yelp
we've been here a couple of times with friends, the food was ok and the prices were ok too. We came a Tuesday evening, there were only a couple of people in there, and we were seated immediately. Service was adequate, nothing super friendly. The steamed fish is not as good as before. My BF is Hunan flavor steam fish lover but he was disappointed this time. Most dishes are oily and salty, have to eat more rice and drink more water to finish them.

Ling P.

Yelp
The best Hunan style foods in Seattle area, the service is great and every dish is almost double size than those at other restaurants, huge surprises to me. The restaurant is very generous to its clients, I would get back to this one every week

Yelp
Mid-size Chinese restaurant along the 99 in Edmonds serving Hunan cuisine. Plenty of parking spots. Went there for an early dinner on Saturday, and the place was pretty empty. When we were done around 6, the tables were mostly filled. Given it's Hunan cuisine, most of the signature dishes are spicy. We ordered a few things this restaurant is known for. Got the eggplant dish with preserved eggs, and it's served in a mortar and pestle for you to mash the ingredients together, which was pretty neat. Also got the dish where you pick two meats and two veggies that get stirred-fried together, and that was pretty tasty. The most impressive-looking dish though was the Dong Ting fish, which is a whole fish served on a big rectangular platform dish. The sauce is spicy and also sour thanks to the pickled vegetable on top, and the fish tasted fresh and had a lot of flavor. The spice level was definitely significant for the fish and it felt more spicy as I ate more of it. All of the dishes have flavors that are on the heavier side, so it's not something I would eat too often, but once in a while it's delicious. Price ended up being about $35 per person including tip, with some leftovers to take home.

Jing G.

Yelp
Came here for authentic cuisine from Hu Nan. Food is still ok. But the service is not good. The server is very slow with a poker face and rude attitude. And they appointed to 18% gratitude. I do not it is happened on me or for everyone. So sad! We still enjoy the food. Maybe not order shrimp tofu, cos It is so hard to find shrimp, not worth for price.)

Scott B.

Yelp
When I arrived at 5 PM, there were 12 tables filled, 9 tables empty, 51 customers seated. At 5:45 there were 3 tables empty, 77 customers seated. I wasn't served until 6 PM (1 hour after I arrived)! Condiments are not available on the tables, I had to get up and go find soy sauce. After taking my order, the waitress returned with a printed receipt that said "unpaid". She taped it to the tabletop. She never returned to my table for any reason, but obviously she was watching from a distance. When I finished my last bite of the meal, she walked up and asked, "Are you finished?". When I said "yes", she pointed to the receipt and asked for payment. (see pic!) I ordered the "Farmer's Pork, Garlic and Green Beans", simplest entree on the menu, with a cup of rice. (see pic!) Since tea was $4 per glass (can you believe it?), I asked for water. It came in a 30oz bottle, was room temperature with no ice... and... and... the drink glass (for everyone in the room) was a 2oz Saki cup! (see pic!) (...and for the record, the person next to me arrived 25 minutes after me, and was served a Hot-Pot on a flame burner with side dishes... all within 15 minutes.) Really, the only positive was the food. The portion- size was more than enough. There was an ample amount of pork, garlic and beans. In fact the garlic cloves were full size and fully cooked. And there was enough rice on the side. Foodwise, I was satisfied. But the service was terrible. No, this wasn't a new waitress learning the ropes, this was the lead - I watched her for an hour giving everyone else instructions. Finally, I paid the check with a $20 bill. They waited several minutes to see if I would leave (implying a tip), before finally bringing me my change. I was the only white-American in the restaurant out of over 70 Asian customers, and I do wonder if this is a cultural thing. Am I off base? Is this kind of indifference typical? Let me know!

Lydia L.

Yelp
My friend was craving for some really spicy food so we brought her here for a weekend lunch. We arrived at 11:40am and there was no line at all. In fact, many tables were empty. We ordered 擂辣椒茄子皮蛋/一盆花菜/红烧肉/大片牛肉/臭豆腐猪脚/红糖糍粑/酸菜鱼/海带汤. The best dishes were still the ones I've had before: cauliflower, eggplant pepper century egg, and stinky tofu pork feet. However, none of them were as tasty as before, and way less spicy. If the spicy level was 8 out of 10 before, now it is 5 or 4 out of 10. I can't even tell that they put any pepper in the dish any more. I was quite disappointed by the food quality after making the effort to come all the way here for some authentic spicy Hunan food.

Wendy S.

Yelp
This I my second time here. I actually didn't realize that it's a hunan restaurant until this time. This time we ordered the chow main and dumplings for the kids and for us we had the special grilled fish, cucumber skin dish, egg plant, braised beef and the cauliflower. I don't recommend the fish though because it wasn't that great. Everything else was superb though! I will definitely be checking in frequently at this restaurant. The eggplant dish was not like anything I have every had before. It came out in a mortar and pastle and you're suppose to smash it. The flavor profile is very interesting...I don't like if I'm in love with it. There were peppers and century eggs in it. Tasted savory, vinegary and spicy. The braised beef was average. The cucumber peel dish is my friend's favorite but it's quite salty so be prepared to eat a lot of rice with it. The cauliflower dish was good and I didn't try the dishes that the kids ordered but they finished it so I assume it was good. We added this stick rice/mochi dessert at the end and it was NOT GOOD! I am not sure what the English name is for it but I'll have a picture with this post. Overall, I would say check the place out if you're ever in the area.

Yelp
Best Hunan cuisine in Seattle area. My university is in Hunan province and this restaurant makes me miss the food there a lot. Pozijie Relu has the same flavor with the rest in Changsha, Hunan. Love this place. Cheap and delicious.

Yelp
Alright.......I have been putting off this review for a while now but its time to get to it. What the heck?!?! I have been here three times..... Twice during busy times and once during off times. I ate during one busy time and once during off time. I was there during one of the first opening days and waited ONE AND A HALF hours for a table for four. This is ridiculous. In fact, I saw another table smooze their way with the host and jump in line. Walking by the bathroom I have seen trash and dishes just lying on the floor in the back room! The first experience was decent. There were a lot of really great dishes and I would say they are one of the best dishes I have had in a long time. The second time I wen during the off time, the menu had been change and the portion sizes were reduced as well as some of the decent dishes had been removed. Notice the cauliflower the second time round. The third time that I went we waited about 20 minutes and then drove to another restaurant near University Village, ate, paid, and was still 20th in line from 50th. This was almost 2 hours later. Also, IF you are coming here, they do not do online reservations anymore.

Teri Y.

Yelp
Get the pork belly! The fried rice was perfect, too. Definitely eating here again and told my friends.

Opal D.

Yelp
The acoustics in this restaurant are horrible--everything echoes and it is extremely loud. They'll close the lid to the rice cooker and you can hear it on the other side of the restaurant; they need dampeners installed. Their service was pretty crap too--had to wave them down for everything, no one would come by to check on you otherwise. They charge $5 per pot of tea so you need them to refill it fairly often. Food was really tasty though!

Mona M.

Yelp
Not gonna lie but at first I had some hesitation about this restaurant due to their lower rating on yelp, even though he had suggested trying them out so many times. But we ended up liking this restaurant so much that we came back here the next day for dinner and eventually dine here on a weekly basis. On our first visit, we got here around 6pm on a Friday night and they were about 70% full already. In 15 minutes of our arrival, there was a steady flow of group of people coming and seated until the restaurant was completely full. The line at the door kept forming even until we left the restaurant about an hour later. On our second visit they were busy but not as busy as on our first visit, we were seated at the back where they stationed dirty dishes etc. The vibe back there did make our dining a little less enjoyable. It's kinda loud back there (but to be fair I do have a reduced tolerance to loud sounds) and I did feel a little anxious due to their fast-paced service. However, after being back to this place every week, I've found that their busiest traffic is consistent on Friday nights; any other times, there are usually plenty of tables available and they let us choose where we want to sit. I found the service to be really good, the servers are all very friendly and all smiles even though they were busy. We are always immediately greeted and seated; and the menu were always the first thing to come to the table, followed by a pitcher of water then we would be left to check out the menu. We appreciate the pitcher but not a fan of the small cups (typical dim-sum tea cup size) that we have to pour our water into. Several waitresses were circling the floor constantly. I can see why people would feel a little rushed but we've never felt rushed at all though. They are all working restlessly, really making sure no customers feel neglected. When we looked at their prices, we thought some of the items were kind of overpriced but after seeing their generous portions, the prices are more than reasonable. Studying their menu, we had a hard time deciding what to order each time cause everything sounds amazing. Also, their updated menu actually have pictures and descriptions now -- which is super helpful so I've snapped some pics of their menu. Foodwise, we've tried most of everything on their menu and we like all of them except the Griddle Cooked Chili Chicken with Pickled Chili cause it's all just bones, really. But the others have been great! Their foods are indeed spicy, the numbing kind but not overwhelming. My tummy is somewhat sensitive to overly spicy foods and theirs don't upset mine. The Crispy Chicken with Garlic sauce was pretty good, I enjoyed it a lot though the peppers did overpower the garlic flavor; I might be biased because I'm a huge garlic lover and always think garlic could be stronger on most dishes lol. Use chopsticks to pick up the chicken or else you'll end up with too much peppers with each spoonful. Mapo Tofu dish was also good, he enjoyed it thoroughly. I tried it too and they put spices to give it a little spin, which is also true with their Mao's Braised Pork - a dish we thought would be a sweet sauce kind, but they also use variety of spices in it. A must-order for us is their Stir Fried String Beans. Although the string beans do not have that "crunch" when you bite them like DTF's but the flavors are rich. We really love it! We always notice that every other table ordered their Mashed Eggplant & Green Pepper with Century Egg dish so we couldn't pass that one up either. I did really like the Mashed Eggplant & Green Pepper, it has the century eggs too which I love but might not be for everyone and the dish is on a salty side. Fish Blossom is their sweet & sour fried fish which was one of our comfort food when growing up back at home. And to my delight, it was a boneless fish! YAY! Unfortunately they put way too much sugar in it, it was just a tad too sweet. We also love the Farmer's Pepper Pork too but would advise against scooping up the sauce cause it's mainly just pork oil. He loves their beef dishes like Stir-Fried Beef with Wild Chili and Fragrant Beef Fillets, and the Fish Fillets in Chili Oil (enormous portion!). Our totals usually came around $40-50 (excluding tips) for 3 dishes, and for the amount of food we are getting - it's quite a steal. We always ended up with plenty leftovers to eat the next day! Parking lot is shared, sometimes it gets super packed and some cars don't give a flying crap about taking up 2 spots. Overall, this restaurant has been added to our favorite Chinese restaurants. But I'd say that if you have a more sensitive tummy, do use caution in eating the dishes as the ones you think won't be spicy still have chili pieces in them and the chilis are hot. But no, we've never had any food poisoning and trust me, we come here once a week. The restaurant is also kept clean very well.

Yelp
The food was very good. Staffs are nice and efficient during busy hours. I have no complaint at all.

Yelp
Here's what to get: 大盆花菜 (Special Cauliflower in House Special Chili Sauce) This dish actually uses Caulilini a variety of cauliflower that has its own distinct taste, texture, and aroma. This vegetable offers a special sweetness and maintains that certain creaminess I attribute to cauliflower when cooked. Its green stems are particularly delicious. I find the size of the florets to be more manageable for my mouth than your usual cauliflower. 酸豆角鸡胗 (Pickled Long Beans Stir-Fried with Ground Pork or Chicken Giblets) I love a well-executed plate of long beans. This way of cooking of green beans just accentuates the vegetable so well. The beans are pleasingly crispy and fully-flavored by the spices and judicious use of meat. 常德肥肠煲 (Griddle Cooked Fatty Intestines with Pickled Peppers) I'm drooling as I think about these tender and chewy intestines soaking up the delectable mix of spices they are cooked in. This dish gives us a brilliant blend of flavor and texture. It is what a happy marriage should look like. 莴笋腊肉 (Griddle Cooked Smoked Ham & Bamboo Shoots) The satisfying mouthfeel of these tender shoots is something you shouldn't pass on!

Yelp
This place is my go-to for Hunan cuisines. It has multiple locations and rumer says the one in shoreline (the first location) is the best. I have been to this restaurant multiple times and have tried a lot of dishes. My favorite is still the eggplant and green pepper dish. It's a staple. And my personal least favorite, to be honest, is the chicken pot (photo attached). Last time I had it, the meat wasn't marinated enough to be flavorful, and the meat to bones ratio was low. Last but not least, be sure to order plain rice or noodle with your meal, otherwise it will be very salty.

Yelp
I love this place! This is very authentic and the taste&portion is way bette than then one in Redmond. I bring lots of my friends over, and they all enjoy it! The most popular dishes includes the braised pork, fish with pickles soup, string beans and the chili fried chicken. The portion was really generous so we got some food to pack with us. It also averages to $20.5 per person including tips, and my friends are very happy about this deal :)

Yelp
My first time here. A friend recommended. Ordered three dishes and we finished 90%. The portion is large as you can see my pics. I enjoyed a lot. The Resturant is spacious and service is cool.

Yelp
One of the best hunan dishes in Seattle! Can't believe it took me so long to visit this authentic Chinese restaurant and I love most of the dishes I've had here. Mashed eggplant, green pepper and century egg - my go-to order at any hunan restaurant and theirs is definitely delicious! I really like this dish because it's so fun to punch the food by yourself and they are really squashy and soft. It goes really well with rice and its flavor is unique as it's more than just being savory. Almost every single table orders this at the restaurant so don't miss out if you come! Smoked meat with chives, mapo tofu - my friend is vegan so we ordered these two dishes. The smoked meat sounds scary but it's actually just bean curd. They go really well with rice but I wouldn't say they are their signature dishes. Chili oil fish: they gave you a huge portion for only seventeen dollars! It's not spicy as it looks like so don't be scared and give it a try! I've also tried several other dishes that are pretty good. They are just too many good to mention. However I actually do not recommend the dong ting chun fish and the rice cake dessert. The fish is fresh and good but i don't think it's worth the price and the dessert is just meh. The space is quite spacious but they do get super busy during dinner time. Be prepared to wait for a few minutes or come early if you can. The service is okay. It's not bad given on how many people are eating there but I do think they should hire more people for better service. Despite that, the yummy food defeat all of its shortcome and I definitely recommend to visit!

Yelp
Loved the authentic Chinese food. So tasty, with large portions! Will definitely be back. The lack of ambience make it more authentic.

Yelp
Summary: OK ops. Top tier food. Good Value Ops Experience (3/5): The two times I've been we've been seated fairly quickly. I would say wait times after placing order can be variable depending on how busy they are. Also, the time between the dishes coming out can be a wait. I will say after your order has been taken and all your food has come out, you will need to flag down the staff for a need (such as more rice). I tried to order extra rice ahead of time to avoid having to ask for more late but they politely informed me that I can order more later. Food Experience (5/5): I love the food here. It reminds me of Houston Chinatown. My favorite dish is the Deep-Fried Chicken with Crispy Red Pepper. The spice and flavor is well balanced. The chicken is well fried and has a satisfying crunch. Value Experience (4/5): Due to the quality and consistency of the food, I would say this place is good or above average value.

Yelp
We were there on New Year's Day, not busy around 5 pm. I went there couple of times on their grand opening. The food is not as good as before. Everything was too salty so I had to drink a lot of water at night. Their duck gizzards were not fresh, smelled really bad. Very disappointed experience this time.

Yelp
The food here is really good I can see why they always have a wait. If your looking for tasty and flavorful food you are at the right stop the menu had so many dishes that I have never even heard of before. Definitely have to come back to try more items in the menu but everything we order was good no bad dish!

Yelp
One star taken away due to the chicken dish I ordered, was composed of 80% bone. For around 17$ was not worth chewing on bones instead of meat. Anyways everything else was delicious and would come back again. For my preference it was too spicy for me, I'd say it was a 4/5 or probably a 5/5 spice level which made the eating experience not that enjoyable when you are sweating, your mouth is hurting and you drinking water 247. My favorite dish is the fish with chili sauce and would probably order that again and again.

Yelp
I'm not Chinese, but I love Chinese food! The food and establishment was clean and quick to be served! We came in around Sunday brunch time and it was quite busy but they were really nice about seating us in (there was just two of us). At first look, the menu can be real intimidating, but just order what people usually get here on Yelp! or...look at the pictures and look at what's good! The servers will probably warn you that a certain dish is spicy but if you like to eat some kimchi and hot Cheetos, it's nothing in comparison. The pork bun is the traditional Chinese dish and favorite of mine, so highly recommend that if you're unsure of what to eat! (I'm Filipino, and it was just like eating pork siopao if ya know what I mean!) I'll be back with my appetite and my Chinese boyfriend to order for me!

Yelp
This is a chain restaurant started in California in 2006 and expanded to Washington State last year. Although it's a chain, but they serve really unique and authentic Hunan style food. It's hard to find many of their dishes elsewhere. The ingredients they use are special and hard to find, even in Chinese supermarkets if you don't know where to look. They have a pretty big menu, from fried rice and noddles to spicy frog legs. The Hunan style food are packed with strong flavors, and can be pretty spicy, so if you cannot enjoy much heat in your food, make sure to ask them to cook everything as mild as they can. That's that I always do, although milder in pepper and heat, it does not discount the flavors of the dishes. My favorites are the cauliflower, the eggplant dish, and their pork belly with buns. This is a busy restaurant, so the wait can be long. They have a system for you to put your phone number in and will text when seats are ready. Also, they would not seat you until most of your party has arrived.

Yelp
food wise, is definitely a five stars. The only reason I am giving a one is because when I stopped by picking up my order, I saw the chef did not have a mask the whole time...... I'd be surprised if its NOT a requirement from the health department at time we are now, that is inexcusable... I sincerely hope the chef could always have the mask on while operating in the kitchen. thank you.

Yelp
It's tough to find remotely authentic Hunanese food in the US, but this place does a good job bringing the experience. I'm familiar with Hunanese cuisine because my mom is Hunanese, and some of the dishes here are reminiscent of my childhood trips as well as my mom's cooking. We came here for a late dinner on a Saturday night, and the place was packed. Luckily a reservation no-showed so we were seated immediately. Their service was overall pretty good. They give you a heads up that the steamed fish takes a while, and they timed all the other dishes to come out at the same time. We got the mashed eggplant with century egg, chili crispy chicken, steamed fish head, and the farmer's pork. The chili crispy chicken isn't very authentic as it's very similar to Chong Qing spicy chicken you'd see at many restaurants in the area. The mashed eggplant is probably the winner here. It had a nice spicy kick with a mix of gooey and meaty texture. There's a strong garlic taste mixed with the creamy century egg, which gives it depth in flavor. The steamed fish head was nice and tender with plenty of chili peppers. Normally the fish in China have HUGE heads, but the fish in the US just aren't the same. It seems like they used tilapia, so we probably should've ordered a whole fish instead. The farmer's pork taste just like what my mom makes occasionally. I found the pork to be a bit dry though. I don't think I ordered the best dishes when I came here, so I'm definitely interested in coming back if I'm ever around Edmonds!

Yelp
I tried to dine in this place twice before pandemic but gave up due to long wait lines. This time, I drove to order to-go but quite disappointed. My orders include Stir-fried chicken with dry chili, Spiced Braised Beef Shank and Deep Fried Chicken with Crispy Red Pepper. They look the same and taste no better than other normal Chinese restaurants. I don't think this is the quality to make people waiting in long lines.

Yelp
This place is unapologetically authentic. Everything is at least a little spicy so be careful bringing kids. They have a few nonspicy items but make sure to ask them first. Chunks of pork fat can be found floating in 75% of the dishes and the menu is mostly in Chinese. If you look at every table you can see a giant mortar and pestle. It is the eggplant with thousand year egg which looks very funky but is really delicious. We also love the Taiwanese cauliflower which is perfectly cooked. Hunan food has. Lot of smoked meats and a lot of play with sour elements so it's a little different than your usual Chinese food. One star off because it is always crowded and it can take some time also maybe I want to keep this place a secret.... In terms of service, when the servers found out my husband and I didn't speak mandarin they were very accommodating.

Yelp
Two stars only! I actually tried two locations before giving the review... I was disappointed for both times. Their grilled fish tasted more like a fried version - tried it at the North location. Waited in line for a very long time. Not worth my time. When they just opened in Redmond, I brought my family to try it. They had a different menu, so I wasn't sure what to order. When we asked for recommendations, the soymilk fish soup was recommended as we were craving seafood, which the waiter introduced it as "my hometown's famous spicy dish", "my personal favorite here!", "If you can't handle spicy food, don't try this... There are other choices..." We got excited because we are a big fan of spicy food. And we wondered how the chief could make a spicy flavor using soymilk instead of other broth. However, it turned out being a VERY big regret! It was just a very tiny fish in a pot; and it was not spicy at all - not much flavor actually. When we asked for an explanation, the same waiter then told us he never tried the dish here and he didn't know if it was not spicy. I mean EXCUSE ME, WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY?? Anyways, it was a $40 worth of a fish fraud experience. It cost almost the same of all the other dishes we ordered combined. Not coming back!

Yelp
I always wanted to check out this place and finally went for lunch. Atmosphere: It was clean and had nice Chinese Asian decor. Food : Spicy. Some of flavors are too strong even for Asian like me. I did like one fish dish and after couple of bites I found little piece of metal ( from pan scrapper) from the fish. I also got really bad diarrhea later. I am not sure if that was from the food or coffee from Starbucks. I usually don't write much reviews, but i had to this time.
