13 Essential Korean Restaurants in the Twin Cities

"A brief appearance on Netflix’s Chef’s Table recently put the small cafe in the back of Dong Yang Oriental Grocery Store in the spotlight, but it’s long been a favorite lunch spot for locals in the know. The menu is small but portions are large and well-priced. For a quick meal to go, an order of kimbap comes in at $7 for an order of two rolls — leaving just enough room in the budget to add a bag of Turtle Chips from the grocery section on your way out." - Julie Zhou

These 16 Twin Cities Grocery Stores Have Really Great Cafes Inside Them

"A Korean grocery store located in Columbia Heights, Dong Yang crams its aisles with imported snacks, shelf-stable condiments and spices, and a huge selection of rice and packaged noodles. At the small deli attached to the store, a rotating selection of banchan accompanies your meal: vinegary daikon, top-of-class kimchi, sweet fish cakes, and bean sprouts drizzled with toasted sesame oil. Order the dolsot bibimbap and get a heated stone bowl of crispy rice, salt-pickled vegetables, and a fried egg still sizzling when it reaches the table." - Cecilia Johnson, Eater Staff

I thought I was in the wrong place. Tucked in the left back of the market and deli is one the best Korean restaurants in Minnesota. Stumbled upon this place, visiting Harbor Freight. My daughter and I went in, and there it was the secret diner. I had the Bibimbap and my daughter the Stone Bowl Rice both absolutely the best I have ever had. All I can say is go there you will thank me.

Google
You will find next to a harbor freight. The restaurant is in the back of the asian grocery store. Pretty easy to find once you are inside. There is plenty of parking in the lot. The establishment itself isn't anything to brag about but once you try the food it really won't matter. I ordered the #9 (beef dish also known as bulgogi) and #15 (japchae). #9 comes with white rice. Both of the dishes were so delicious! The portions are large. Everything was seasoned perfectly and cooked quick. I got my food to go but there are some tables for dining in if you please. The dishes come with a small box of side as well which are i believe are fish cake strips possibly, bean sprouts that are Marinated and kimchi. All and all, the food is great! If you haven't tried korean food, i recommend trying this place out!

Google
Pretty well stocked with a variety of Asian food. Restaurant in back, didn’t try it. Fairly clean place, prices seemed decent. Plenty of parking outside

I don't know what these people who are giving bad reviews about this place are talking about!! First of all, the lady was THE KINDEST SWEETEST little lady I've ever met!!! I tipped her 20% and she told me that I don't have to tip that much?! Then she gave us literally POUNDS of DELICIOUS authentically Korean home cooked food! (These pictures do not lie!) And you won't find a restaurant with better prices, especially now a days!! We'll DEFINITELY be back! The Japchae was perfectly seasoned with plenty of bulgogi in it, the spicy stir fried squid had TONS of thick juicy, soft squid pieces and the pork bulgogi was full of flavor!! If you want to dine at a GOOD home cooked Korean meal prepped with love, try this place out! And the lady taking our order was SO SO HUMBLE and an absolute SWEET HEART! 😍

KEM SIANG LEE

Google
Food is good but extremely poor service. Dishes are served in styrofoam, which harmful to health and bad impact on environment. This deli should stop the disgusting act of serving food in unsafe utensils. What a way to stinge on employment of servers!!! Every thing is self service.

Wow! I thought I was the only one who experienced this. I came to write a review as it was not my first time experiencing this negative attitude from Dong Yang’s deli lady. Seems many people here also experienced this. The lady taking the food order was extremely rude. She ignored my presence for a while and then said, “we’re not open until 11am.” I said oh okay and waited. When it was time she stood there and waited for the clock. She didn’t greet, smile, or say anything, and she looked at me with a flat face and said “what do you want?” I decided to place my order and asked for a receipt and instead of giving me the receipt, she tossed it on the counter. Even when I picked up my food her back was to the counter as she shouted the number. The last time I ordered spicy beef soup and there wasn’t any beef except for two very tiny pieces and I showed her and explained that I ordered beef soup and would like more beef in my soup. She got angry and said, “no one complained except you!” I told her that I would like my order corrected, she was upset and made another person fix the dish. She was rude and very dismissive. I come to this place because I want to support a local joint and enjoy Korean food, however her negative attitude makes me no longer want to come. I gave it two starts because 1 for the food was okay and 2 because the cashier man in the front of the store was very nice.

Google
Longstanding landmark for this community, local beacon of sorts for Korean foods, tastes and cross-culturalism. Mom and pop store, a contrast in characters. You can indulge your Korean language and manners as you check out and have a little chat at the front counter, or quietly browse the long shelves of mysterious foods to your hearts content in the middle of the store or somewhat to the back is a sort of diner where you can order a few freshly prepared Korean hot/cold dishes, dine in or take away. So there's a little something for everyone here, check it out soon!

Google
It is 25 minutes drive from the cities and that possibly the only negative review i can give. Otherwise they have great food at a great price with nice staff and clean kitchen. They have around 16 options but that is good enough because portions are pretty filling. Grocery part is fine, they have a bit of everything u would possibly looking for.

Yelp
I've shopped her a couple times but due to being plant based haven't even looked at their cafe menu since Korean food generally is not vegan friendly. This is a great place for me to find some tasty snacks, some produce and some ramen noodles when I don't have the time to run to a larger shop in the city. Plenty of mochi flavors and types to choose from! Lots of packaged noodles, drinks, etc. I was able to find king oyster mushrooms for about $8 for three that I needed for Christmas. Staff is always friendly and they do have a little gift/kitchen supply area which is fun to shop through. The aisles are very small so hard to look at everything but plenty to find!

Yelp
My friend had a drum lesson nearby so we met here for a meal beforehand. He being from Wisconsin could not handle any heat so I ordered the bulgogi and grilled mackerel. He tried 1 bite of the kimchi and immediately needed water‍. He loved the bulgogi so much he ate the whole plate. The rice was perfect and service was friendlier than usual. We browsed the isles afterwards and he picked up a few items. I'm glad I got to expose a rural small town Wisconsinite to Korean food but next time I'm ordering spicy kimchi stew.

Yelp
This is hands down my favorite Korean restaurant in the cities. It is fresh, authentic, flavorful and reasonably priced. The ambiance is laid back. It's tucked into the back of a grocery store, so there's not much to it. The service is friendly and efficient. I can't wait to come back here!

Yelp
Great place for picking up Korean grocery staples. But the best part is the delicious little restaurant in the back. I'm obsessed with potstickers but they have a ton of great food. Service is minimal since it's counter serve.

Yelp
Korean mom and pop shop with food stall inside. I stopped by here killing time after work before going to see a friend. The other reviews were pretty consistent with the experience of the store and restaurant and sets expectations. The store: has all the standard Korean grocery products from kimchi, gochujang, rice, etc. There is a small produce section, which if you're craving a certain Korean variety of radish or peppers: are available and not too pricey at that. The inventory does need some controls. There were products that were passed due and needed to be thrown out. Make sure to check the dates and inspect the goodies. The restaurant food: It is very traditional, and good assortment from beef to seafood and the rice bowls. I ordered the dumplings-mandu and stir fried squid-ohjingnu bokgeum. The mandu was fried right, but the filling was uninteresting. There was maybe tofu? Maybe some noodles. Typing this made me realize the only part I remembered was the crispy texture being on point. The squid stir fry is one my favorite dishes to order and their take was very traditional and standard. It's a sweet and spicy gochujang based sauce that's mildly addictive with a nice spice level- not MN though :P good assortment of veggies and squid. Comes with the banchan/ sides of steamed bean sprouts, fish cake, and kimchi and rice. Parking is plentiful since it shares a building with harbor freight away from the other part of the strip mall. Grocery buggies are outside to grab, but the aisles are a tad bit tight. If wanting traditional kick, good option to check out in the Twin Cities.

Yelp
So daaaaaang good! Nice restaurant with an attached grocery store. Large portions with such big flavors!

Yelp
This is probably the most authentic and delicious Korean food in the twin cities, or perhaps in Minnesota. Their food is delicious-- I think the dolseot bibimbap is probably one of the best I've ever had. The people who work there are efficient, kind, and passionate. It's a small place so there are not many tables, and every time I've gone it's been full. Try their kimbap, jajangmyeon, or their japchae

Yelp
This shop is small and there are so many choices and brands, wall to wall. It may seem overwhelming, but after a quick glance you'll notice things are pretty easy to find due to the organized setup. Since you've worked up an appetite shopping, there's even a small restaurant inside with a sweet halmeoni (grandma) ready to take your order. Fairly priced and delicious traditional Korean dishes. If you do place a takeaway, your order comes with banchans (side dishes) too. We loved their Haemul-pajeon (seafood pancakes). The pajeon is a bit crispy, a bit soft and fluffy, and is loaded with an array of awesome vegetables, shrimp, and squid.

Yelp
Still the go to Korean joint. Prices have increased over the last year but I can say confidently, it's simply to afford the proper and correct portions of ingredients to secure a well balanced and true to taste Korean menu. Thanks for all you've done for me Dong Yang, your service as encouraged my soul in many times of need.

Yelp
I alway have a good feeling when there's a mini Korean restaurant inside a korean grocery store. So far, they've all tasted super yummy with a decent price. I feel like everything is family own to keep the price reasonable. There's a few tables and it can get busy. You order at the counter first and the menu is on the wall with pictures and names so you know what you get :). They give you a post-it note with a number and that's how you get called. Make sure you keep the note because they collect it when you get your food. I think they reuse the post-it . Black bean noodles- I was actually craving this dish to go get Korean food. Was a little disappointment. Didn't come with cucumbers or eggs. I honestly don't know if there's meat in this like other places. The portion is big so definitely shareable. 2.5/5 Seafood Pancake- delish with a good portion. Sauce is great. What's not to like? Highly recommend 5/5 Kalbi- this was juicy and tender. A good portion for the price compared to most or any other places. It is not overly cooked as you can see not burnt. Definitely good. 4.5/5 Sides- they give you a good portion of size. Each main dish get a large portion of rice too! More rice than any other places for togo lol. Perks of eating here is you can buy the side dishes to bring home along with other Korean stuff. I picked up a few things. Their kimchi is quite tasty as well. On a note, it's weird that they rip the big togo box in half to use it as a plate for some dishes as pictured. We didn't finish the pancake and because it was cut, there was no top to close. Went to ask for a new box but they only give out small togo boxes and says big one is not available. I get the concept of saving but maybe give the whole box or just put it in a dish and wash more? Just thought it was odd. Overall, love the food and feel. Will definitely be back to try other stuff as well and pick up more side dishes.

Yelp
My favorite Korean spot if you're up in the north metro area of Minneapolis. A true hidden gem in the back of a grocery store. A true taste of Korea!

Yelp
Fun discovery in Hiltop, MN. We spent time in AM at Top Golf and were hungry. Luckily this place was 10 minutes away. It is tucked in a quiet strip mall in a residential area. The grocery store is not too busy but as you go to the back of the store behold another world of people ordering and eating food. Menu covers the traditional dishes (e.g., black bean noodles, kimchi tofu soup, japchae, etc.). Prices were much cheaper but about $1-2 more from the photos on Yelp due to rising inflation. This was a fun experience. The food was plenty and made for a solid lunch.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years, mainly for the restaurant. While the grocery portion is nice, sometimes they don't have everything you are looking for. Would recommended supporting this local business! Plus, the staff is friendly and there is plenty of parking.

Yelp
I love a good mom and pop store and Dong Yang definitely lives up to the small Asian groceries around here in the twin cities. It has a great selection on all things Korean and more, and everything is priced pretty well! One thing I love about big Asian groceries is that you can eat and shop all in one stop, and Dong Yang is a mini version compared to markets like Hmart. We ordered the japchae and bibimbap and were able to shop for our groceries and also the best fresh kimchi around Minneapolis :) Our food came out decently quick and I was excited for some authentic flavors. The japchae came with a side of rice and bonchon, including fish cakes, bean sprouts, and spicy pickled veggie. It was way more food than we needed, but I personally liked the bibimbap more since the japchae was a little bit on the too oily and salty ide for me. I'm definitely going to have to return to try their other dishes on the menu!
google avatar

Kamni M.

Yelp
The food is good here, it's not great but it's decent for the price tag. The grocery store itself is well stocked but the restaurant was so-so. Service was super quick and it's a hole in the wall place so it's good for a quick stop to grab food but don't expect greatness.

Yelp
This is a Korean grocery store next to Harbor Freight, with its own designated entrance. I almost walked into the harbor freight entry, mainly because I wasn't paying attention. You'll find most of your common Asian condiments, snacks, meat & etc but mainly Korean ingredients. I love that there is a dedicated aisle for all kinds of seaweed! You will also find premade side dishes, kimchi and pickled radishes. Located in the Dong Yang market is a lovely deli! Plenty of seating for such a small space. Ordering was easy since they had an overhead menu but deciding on what to eat is the hard part! There's a good variety of dishes including stews, bibimbaps, japchaes, short ribs, and gimbap! I got the Kimchi stew and Korean short ribs. I love that the kimchi stew came out boiling hot in a stone pot and with lots of sides! The sides are my favorite and the white rice is actually pretty fluffy, approved! The short ribs was sweet and chewy. I couldn't really bite it off and had to tug it a bit off the bones or into smaller pieces. Somehow I expected it to fall off the bones but maybe I'm wrong about this dish. Kimchi dish was ok, as expected with lots of kimchi and a few tofu but pairs well with the white rice! The food was good and the dish size was a good size and big in my opinion. Food came out quicker than I expected. Maybe because there wasn't a lot of people on the day I went, Sunday evening. Overall huge parking lot, friendly service and good portion sized Korean dishes! Will come back to try the other dishes! And yes both gender bathrooms in the back!

Yelp
I forgot how much I love love love this place. They have a second restaurant in Arden Hills apparently, but the location on Central Ave is still my preference due to the proximity to my home and there are ample parking at the lot. The deli is always so good and you can't go wrong with ordering anything and everything on their menu. Everything I have tried tasted very authentic and delicious. The price is also reasonable. While you wait for your food, you can walk around their amazing grocery section with plenty of choices to make your own home cooked Korean meal. I picked up all the ingredients I needed for a tteokbokki dish. I also picked up a jar of their kimchi and replenished my soba noodles and ramen noodles in the pantry. Never leave the place with their freshly made kimbap as well. They run out quick so when you see them make sure to buy them for a snack!
google avatar

Paula C.

Yelp
Their cafe inside is quite the hidden gem serving up authentic Korean staple dishes. We got the soft tofu stew, beef short ribs and black bean noodles and they were all delicious! These also came with banchan. This is a self service type of place and can get pretty busy so keep that in mind. The selection they have in the store was also great with a lot of instant ramen options and asian snacks!
google avatar

Amanda H.

Yelp
The deli has delicious fresh made Korean food! It gets busy during lunch time but it's worth the wait! You can always do takeout as well! Get the kimpap as it is made fresh throughout the day.

Nicole S.

Yelp
The foods is not too bad here but the customer service was very rude. The short old lady with the short hair that take the orders is rude the way she speak. Talking under her throat and when you said you can't understand or hear what she said she yell. If you are not happy go back into kitchen let other people do your job. People go buy your foods not beg for free foods. Yesterday the short ribs that I got was not fully cook. Taste like plastic and still red on the meat.
google avatar

Elisa H.

Yelp
I'm not going to say to not go because of the food (the food is really good and honestly is a saving grace) The service was poor, that may be due to the time of day, there were a lot of patrons and only 3 people working at the deli area Some of the food in the market was expired (garlic was growing a nice hairdo, some kimchi bags were bloated as if the kimchi was past due) but the market variety for Korean food and ingredients was honestly nice I hope the place cleans up a little in terms of service and expired foods but as of now, I cannot recommend this place :c If you do, I would recommend ordering ahead
google avatar

Cj M.

Yelp
Great no frills spot for quick lunch before shopping for all your Korean grocery items.
google avatar

Megen L.

Yelp
Love the food from here and the price is very reasonable for Korean food. Since you order food at a counter and the dine in accommodations are simple, I have only taken food to go. I would go back for take out food for sure since I always over order. It gets busy during meal times so the wait can be a bit long. I highly recommend their food!
google avatar

LOGAN O.

Yelp
Thanks Yelp for pointing me to this Market/Restaurant. They are primarily stocked with all the Korean goodies you are looking for. From Instant Ramen to Kim Chee. You will find it here. Prices are slightly higher but I get that due to the cost of transporting goods. The restaurant side does a very good job. We knew it was a good sign when the cook is Korean. Everything we ordered was delicious. Just wish the menu was had more options.
google avatar

Ashley L.

Yelp
I love coming here for the homemade kimchi! The ones that come in a jar just don't taste as great (imo). I also pick up some Asian ingredients if I need anything (like sauces, noodles, seaweed wrap, any Korean sauces/fixings). They have a deli in the back as well that you can order hot Korean food from.
google avatar

Mary L.

Yelp
I've found my new favorite Korean restaurant! I love their short ribs and soft tofu soup. They do have weird hours so I recommend lunch on the weekends. The place is small and hidden in the back of the grocery store. If you're looking for a 5 star customs service this isn't the place bc it's a small quick casual dinning place in a grocery store. You order your food at the counter, grab it, and then go.
google avatar

John Y.

Yelp
The restaurant located inside the store does not serve water - they want everybody to buy water from the store. Also the chopstick is the cheap ramen type with plastic spoon. Completely unacceptable.
google avatar

Melissa Z.

Yelp
My family has been coming to Dong Yang for authentic, Korean food for about three years, and their food is still just as yummy! HOWEVER, we've been less inclined to come as of recently because the service has been more hostile. Today, we came and ordered four dishes (bulgogi, spicy pork stir fry, spicy squid stir fry, and japchae) and were given order number 6. When our order was ready, the lady behind the register called #4 and pointed at us. I was confused since we had not ordered the #4 dish and were told we were order 6, but thought that she was perhaps addressing the family in front of us. After a few minutes, she became very agitated and started yelling at me. I apologized, grabbed the food, and did not think too much about the exchange as I understand that the dinner rush can be stressful and she could have easily made a mistake. We got all of our orders and were satisfied with the food. Several minutes later, she called out a totally different number and started yelling and pointing at me yet again. She claimed that we had also ordered noodles, when we had not, and kept insisting that we were wrong. I asked her to dig up our receipt to which she finally admitted that it was a mistake. All in all, Dong Yang still serves great food, but be sure to ask for a receipt for your order!!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic place, where I've *never* had a bad meal, so it's always amusing to read all the whiny negative reviews, here. Have you, reader, had a bad customer service experience at Dong Yang? Guess what: It was almost certainly you. When you go in there, keep in mind that the busy ladies behind the counter don't have time for your bullshit, and they don't want to be your pal. Order your food, pay, and gtfo of the way. And omfg, they're not "racist", here. I've seen people of any number of ethnic backgrounds, including Korean-Americans, come away from the counter with hurt feelings. If you're seeing fewer Koreans getting yelled at, it's probably because they're regulars, and know the ropes. So don't drag your feet, don't try and haggle over the prices, don't cut in line demanding more sauce, etc., and you'll have a better time, I promise.
google avatar

Peter S.

Yelp
This is one of the few authentic Korean stops in the city that my Korean friends vouch for! It's a deli in the back of a grocery store. Ok, the prices are sit-down prices, not deli prices, but the food is incredible. Our favorites are the Bulgogi Beef, Seafood Stew, and the Kimchi Stew. We always get the Korean "sushi" for a snack (don't remember what they call it instead.) Grab a big jar of kimchi on your way out! They lost a star for consistently grumpy lunch ladies at the counter. You've been warned! Expect good food, and pretend this place is the Korean version of the "Bad Waitress" and you'll be fine. Update: they got a new counter lady and she is actually nice! Lol back to 5 stars.

Yelp
Time for an update and this time I'm reviewing the grocery store part of this popular grocery store/restaurant. Yes, the restaurant is awesome but due to COVID-19 Pandemic (from mid 2020 to now, 2021) the restaurant part is closed at this time. So on to the grocery store part. The store is clean and it's organized. Great finds of all Asian foods, especially Korean and Japanese. Food appliances, rice cookers are nicely organized, too. Awesome prices on food appliances! After having spent $109.00 on a the Korean Rice Cooker, "Cuckoo" at a different store, I find it here for $74.99 the same price that's listed on Amazon.com! I wish I came here first! OH, and even though the restaurant is closed, they still offer freshly made wrapped sushi rolls available by the cash register, which is super yummy! Highly recommend!

Yelp
If you enjoy Korean food, my go to spot is Dong Yang. They have a small menu but everything is so good. Hidden in the back of the grocery store, you can walk up to make your order and I like to shop and pick up some items on the grocery side while I wait. I do wish they would take online or phone orders, it can be a bit of a wait especially since I normally order a lot to feed 8 people when I get there so I do wait closer to 30 minutes for our food. Food keeps well for takeout (my drive is 20 minutes back home) and it there is so much food to share! Our favorites are the kimchi tofu soup, seafood pancake, and pork bulgogi. Comes with plenty of side dishes (banchan) and rice. Our favorite spot to get our Korean food fix here in MN for sure

Yelp
I love coming here to shop things all Asian! Tasty quadratini wafers, and their amazing selection of them that no other store in the twin cities offers. Excellent selection of dry goods and some frozen items such as dumplings. Unfortunately, their vegetable selection is not as wide as United Noodle store which is extremely disappointing. They have a good place to eat here. I come for their Japchae Korean noodles. This time we ordered the grilled mackerel, which was too salty.. The tofu soup is way too spicy but oh so good!! Definitely worth a try!

Yelp
A hidden gem - the go to place for all oriental needs. My partner is Asian and has introduced me to Dong Yang's. I often accompany him here for grocery runs and lately, many solo trips. They have a wide variety of items from frozen foods, fresh produce, instant soups, sweets, snacks, fresh meat, hand rolled sushi to a whole made to order restaurant / café (have not tried yet but plan to soon). I have come across a couple items with expiration dates already passed but nothing super in the past. There is not always produce in stock but when it is, it is great quality. The prices seem fair and there is plentiful options of many items. The store itself is not super modern or updated, but it is clean. And the staff seem kind and they keep things stocked. Sometimes communication is a challenge language wise but they are helpful and kind, always finding exactly what I need. Have come here many times and will continue to.

Yelp
The food is really good. Not much ambiance as it is located within a Korean grocery store. The only challenge is it is beginning to get expensive as they keep raising prices ...

Yelp
A great deli and Korean grocery store in Hilltop. I go here for their fresh house-made cabbage Kimchi. This stuff is so tasty! Garlicky, spicy, crunchy, all the things I find satisfying when I eat. In general, I have been able to find every ingredient I've needed to try to make a wide range of Korean dishes myself at home. The ajummas that work the counter in the deli in the back can be a bit crabby. Though their service frank, they mean well. Don't take their perceived crabtitude too seriously. Overall, the food from the deli is delicious and consistent, not to mention it's usually piping hot! It doesn't get the chance to get cold because once your food is done, they've got it tray-ed up and ready for you to grab in the window. I've tried the Dolsot Bibimbap, Jjampong, Jajjangmyeon, spicy pork stir-fry, bulgolgi, tteokboki, and kimbap. Whenever I go here with my dad he gets the spicy pork stir-fry. Every. Time. He loves it!! It's got a nice amount of veggies in it too so you're not getting pork overload. The side dishes have always been very tasty too. Being a Korean American who hasn't grown up in a Korean household, I appreciate Dong Yang. I get the opportunity, a glimpse, into what the culture is like. I get to hear people speak the language, I get to see the interactions with the clerks, I get to look at and even purchase(!) Korean products, and I get to eat and make the food myself. Places like this are important and I am so grateful to have it.

Yelp
The deli in the back of this grocery store is my go-to spot for no frills, yummy Korean food. As some of the other reviews said, the counter service used to not be so great. Just stopped in today and confirmed there is a new lady at the counter, and she's very nice! Great variety of options, the menu is numbered and in both Korean and English. Self-serve for utensils, water, and complimentary tea! I asked the Korean woman what kind of tea it was and she said it was barley tea. We ended up buying some they had in the grocery aisle. Today, we stopped in at noon (Tuesday) and got two of our usual picks, #18 kimchi stew/jjigae and #13 beef short ribs/galbi. There were only a few parties so we got our food very quickly. It came with several sides and we left very full. Usually, we get an appetizer or another dish but today we had some restraint. Definitely give this place a try and after you're done eating, walk off the food coma by shopping the aisles and checking out the selection of teas, snacks, and cold drinks they have!

Yelp
Today we went back, my wife like this place , and so do many others , but the fact that the place is going to ruin with the lack of cleanliness, and even though they hike up the prices, they've cut back on a bunch of stuffs that USE to make this place shine. The side dish portion is cut back to a measly fraction, today we got like 3 tiny slice of kimchi! Talk about rationing the foods. Even in their kimpa (sushi roll) the price nearly 2-3x what it use to be , yet they've remove a bunch of stuffs or substitute cheaper stuffs (no spinach, no crab rolls (even though this is just imitation crab). Also note: I notice 98% of customer who are not Korean got their own foods , which is normal . BUT the lady personally brought food dishes to Korean customers..... she didn't do that to any of us

Yelp
Authentic Korean Food served in a restaurant located in the rear of the Korean grocery store. Great Food and a good variety of Kimche.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. All the cooked food served at the back are on point and the portion is good. This is my favorite spot to go to when it comes to Korean Food in the Twin Cities. Do keep in mind that if you dine in, and you need to go box or plastic bag, they will charge you 50 cents per bag or to go box. They never did this before but this time I guess they're charging for those. It'll be better to order to go if you don't intend on eating everything when dining in.

Yelp
Dong Yang's is by far THE BEST store in the area. Quite frankly, I don't understand how a place like this can exist. You can find almost anything in this store. It is packed with items and I find new things every time. I'll start by saying it's basically a mini grocery store, it has nice sliding doors and many carts you can get. Also baskets as well. Think about this little store as a square, divided into 4 sections. The first section or quarter is when you walk in. There is a large "bulk section" with hundreds of packs of instant noodles in each, rice, and other sorts of goods that are often bought in bulk, all for great prices. Then, the other quarter is all the shelve items, curry paste, gochujaung, sauces, produce, and even a massive freezer with fresh fish! How awesome! The next quarter is an actual full service restaurant with a ton of awesome menu options. It smells amazing and they have great options, anyone could find something there! It's hard to believe that a store already packed into a small space would have a full service restaurant, that's why I say it's hard to believe a place like this exists. The next quarter, is a TON of appliances and dishes. In this area, there is a massive wall of kimchi, tofu, frozen goods, along side rice cookers, tea sets, chopsticks, pots, pans, and sooooo much. It's so very cool and hard to believe that a small store could be dense with items and have so many extras all the while retaining all the items you would expect. There prices are all fantastic here, and the quality just cannot be beat. I do almost all of my shopping here, it truly is the best place to come shop for food. I love you Dong Yang's!

Yelp
Food is good but only when you can actually get to order your food. Many times the rude lady in the kitchen would slam plates or say bad things to customers in Korean. This place is trash. The food is not worth the verbal abuse and hostile treatment.

Yelp
The deli is open again! Less seating spots, but we were able to find an empty table. So good to get out and enjoy some Korean cuisine! No water or tea is available but you can buy drinks.

Yelp
Dong Yang is definitely a hidden gem! Judging from all the Yelp reviews, I guess I'm the only one in the Twin Cities that didn't know about this hidden Korean Deli! After my first visit, I guess I'll put in my brief 2 cents. This place is hidden in a back corner of the grocery...very cool! The food is great! And the prices are very good. I wish I still lived in this area. I'd be stopping by all the time. BTW, my lunch partner is an old school dude from this neighborhood. Apparently, the Harbor Freight/Dong Yang building used to be a Frank's Nursery. Wow, how times change! -Daddy Maxx Retro

Yelp
I like to post a rating after having tasted more than one thing on the menu and having gone multiple times to the establishment. Most of my experiences have been take out based with Dong Yang. After trying out more than a handful of Korean restaurants Dong Yang is at the top of my list for authentic Korean food because of it's simple menu and unpretentious yummy food. This restaurant sits in the back of a small grocery store with seating available for approximately 20 people. It currently would house less than that now with covid regulations. I've tried their dumplings, soft tofu stew, bbq spicy pork, bbq beef, beef short ribs, seafood pancake, grilled fish, bimbimbap, spicy rice cake, and black bean noodles. Simple staple dishes are a good way to tell how good a restaurant's menu will bode and man does the soft tofu soup knock it out the park. Probably my favorite ever (I've had A LOT of soft tofu stew.) Everything that I've ordered, I've thoroughly enjoyed. The portions and pricing are fair and they are always on time when I arrive to pick up my order. Now let's talk about service. I don't think there is anything really special about the service but the staff is generally nice from the process of ordering on the phone to paying on location. I've ordered 30 minutes before close and arrived right upon close. The doors were still open with two other people checking out and my food ready to go. The older woman cashing me out was speedy, polite, and attentive. Its a humble restaurant with amazing authentic food. Best Korean food I've had so far in MN!

Yelp
The fewer the frills, the better the food. This is a no-frills operation and the food is legit. My family has been getting bulgogi, japchae, and mandu for years from here as a special treat and it never disappoints. I recently branched out and tried the jjigae, which I personally prefer over Kimchi Tofu house. Reading about the service other people have received: I've never dined in (only carry-out) and have never had a problem. In summary: generous portions, banchan, and consistent quality. Would recommend.

Yelp
This is a small restaurant in a grocery store but it is very good. I need a Korean food fix occasionally and they do well. I had the Jampong (spicy seafood soup) and it was great. Enough to take some to work the next day. We also had Dolsot Bebimbop which was very good. An additional plus is that we can shop for Asian supplies after we eat. No waiter service but you order and pick up from a window which is very convenient

Yelp
Delicious ribs and spicy pork!!! We live an hour away and drive just to eat here since we don't have authentic Korean food where we live and it's worth the drive every time! Fast and friendly service

Yelp
I'm not usually in the area of this place, but when I am, I feel obligated to stop here. The restaurant is located in the back of the grocery store. I've been going here for many years and it hasn't changed at all. There's a good selection of dishes to choose from. You order at the window and then they'll yell out when your order is ready. Everything here is self-service. It reminds me a lot of a few of the places that I ate in Korea a long time ago. Last time I was in, the woman who took my order was very friendly and that made my day. (Random short story. Haha.) I've had a lot of different things from here, but I guess I'll just mention the bibimbap, since that's what I had most recently. I liked that they included gosari. It doesn't seem like a lot of other restaurants locally include that. They do a good job at capturing a very authentic version of bibimbap here. For some reason, it tastes a lot like when I've had it in Korea. Even though the interior isn't very glamorous, Dong Yang consistently serves up good food. It's a great place to grab some yummy Korean food in the northern suburbs.
