The Best Italian Restaurants in Los Angeles

"Since opening in mid-2023, Donna’s has became Echo Park’s popular neighborhood Italian joint with a sprinkling of East Coast flavor. Chef Sathia Sun serves contemporary spins on the traditional veal piccata, spaghetti and meatballs with basil, and a must-eat garlic bread heaped with grated cheese. Every detail inside is pure fun, with custom retro wallpaper, hanging lights, tiled floors, and a bar to try one of Karla Flores-Mercado’s creative Negronis and spritzes. — Mona Holmes, reporter" - Matthew Kang, Eater Staff

Good food Very reasonably priced 2 people are for less than $24 Great atmosphere. Locals were really nice and helpful.

Spent a few nights in Newcastle and stopped by for a late breakfast. It was delicious!!! My husband had the western omelette and has said multiple times since that it was the best omelette he’s ever had. I had the breakfast burrito and it was delicious too. We took home enough leftovers to have breakfast the next morning at as well.

Walter Norton

Google
Wow! I would have driven from North Carolina for breakfast here. Passed through town for gas and asked "where was a really good place for breakfast?" and was immediately told Donna's down the street. We were not disappointed (delicious, friendly and plenty to eat). I wish they were closer to Ocean Isle Beach, NC!

Google
Great food! Great service. Small town friendliness. Burgers were not pre-pressed patties. Grilled chicken was a full chicken breast, cooked perfectly! Would 100% eat here again if we had the chance.

Google
Excellent place feels like home. Only like 8 tables one was big enough for 10, others was for at least 4 each. Very speedy, disgustingly fantastic delicious food and nice size servings. They actually had a real Denver Omelette. My coffee cup never was empty which made me really happy. Looked like all was in there were the locals but my caregiver and me. We arrived at 10:00 a.m. so we was in the brunch time. Had a young couple come in 30 minutes after us and ordered breakfast. Highly recommend this little diner and if we in the area again I will stop by for round 2.

Google
All my veggies fresh and it seemed the oil for fried foods was very clean. Staff was super nice! Really enjoyable small town restaurant

DLM-Distribution Campervans

Google
Nice stop passing though is our Mini-T Campervan, not far off highway. Good food and treated us like they wanted us to visit again. Go the extra few blocks, this place is great.

Google
The food was excellent, home cooking style. The service was very good and very friendly. I'd give it more stars if I could.

Yelp
First 100% good breakfast place we've had in a while. Service awesome, coffee stayed full.

Yelp
Breakfast and service was amazing coffee is on point. If you like a small town breakfast joint this is the place.

Yelp
This place is a gem and embodies what little mom and pop American home cooking diners used to be like all over the country before chains took them over. Inside is no frills but it's clean and makes you feel right at home. Locals and visitors alike are treated with kindness and the servers work their butts off with a smile on their faces. Coffee is only $1 as it should be, but you can't even find a deal like that at a gas station. I got a bacon egg and cheese sandwich on a biscuit and the sandwich was huge for only $6. It was fresh and the bacon was thick cut high quality. Excellent food, excellent value, excellent service and sadly a slice of nostalgia for those of us living in towns and cities that no longer have places like this to eat at.

Yelp
The food here is fine. Nothing bad, nothing exciting. This used to be such a good spot to eat, it was my Wyoming hidden gem, but I'm not sure what's happened over the years, but the menu has gotten small, they used to make homemade biscuits that were so good. No more chicken fried steaks.

Susan A.

Yelp
Ah I just love small town diners where everyone knows everyone and everything. Where else do you hear, "You all have a safe trip"? Anyway, the menu is just the average diner breakfast, and what a breakfast. Fresh eggs, good coffee, friendly service, and good sized portions. Portions fit for a working man. I ordered an omelet. It's perfectly cooked, fluffy, full of ingredients sautéed to perfection with a healthy portion of cheese. It was so good. Hubby went with basic eggs and bacon and boy you could see the eggs weren't from a caged hen. So bright and yellow and he said extremely tasty. The cafe is located in historic downtown so a bit past the intersection. But so worth the extra mile. The place is small in size but big on food and price. W22

Yelp
We stopped in while in a road trip in Aug of 2023. The food and service were mediocre.

Tonya S.

Yelp
This is a great downtown diner. Great service and great specials. We had a chicken wrap for lunch.

Michael S.

Yelp
Great food and great service!! Atmosphere was terrific as well. Food was served quickly and accurately.

Randy C.

Yelp
Great place to have breakfast. We both had omelettes with hash browns. Delicious food and the hash browns were cooked crispy as requested. We look forward to trying their lunch menu soon!

Yelp
Drove here from SD and there's a sign on the door that says closed until further notice
google avatar

Yelp
The best breakfast I have had in a long time. The biscuits and gravy were sublime, the facility spotless, and the staff friendly and accomodating. If in town, don't miss.

William M.

Yelp
Brisket and pulled pork were amazing. Service was lovely. 10/10. The hours on Yelp are mistaken. It was open when Yelp said it should be closed.

Colette F.

Yelp
Passing through the town and found this place. Quite a small dining room but the service and food were great.

Yelp
Happened to be passing by this sweet spot. Waitress was phenomenal and the food was superb. The place also had a very at home feel to it. It is definitely worth a shot if you happen to be in the area. Portions are fair as well, the port chop and eggs was EXTREMELY fair and cooked to perfection. Everything made from scratch and it showed.

Eric H.

Yelp
Excellent food! Breakfast and lunch is hot, tasty and filling. Staff is friendly, virtuous and always checking to see if you need anything or how the food is. Great place!
google avatar

Clamor W.

Yelp
Hey, they do have oatmeal as the ONLY vegan choice. But the best server, said bacon was the best in the county. And my fellow diner agreed
google avatar

Barbie F.

Yelp
Main Street dining at its best. Friendly and welcoming service. Huge portions and yummy home cooked food.

Amy T.

Yelp
Food was very good and service too. Had the sampler plate and a burger. Couldn't complain. So glad they had a fly swatter hanging on the wall though, to kill all those flies flying around our table near the window.

Yelp
We were passing through town and found this place through Yelp. The excellent reviews were spot on. It's a typical small town diner. Egg salad was the special of the day and my boyfriend got the last one. Some diners who came in late were not happy! Taunya was our server and she was friendly, attentive, and funny. She recommended the carrot cake and I'm so glad I decided to try it. Perfect ending...moist and cream cheese frosting. The prices were very reasonable. The cake was only $4.

Yelp
Our little family of four happened upon this place by accident. It was a happy accident indeed. The location is pretty easy to get to, and the little building is quaint and clean. The waitstaff was extremely pleasant and accommodating. Even though we were DEFINITELY not locals, they made us feel right at home. The menu was simple, American, fare. We ordered grilled cheese and chicken strips for the kids and my hubby had a burger with sweet potato fries. I opted for the taco salad. The meals didn't delay very long at all and it was very good! We all had to sample from each other's plates because it all looked and smelled so appetizing. We were satiated for sure by the time we left! We recommend this hometown diner for sure!

Amanda M.

Yelp
Very friendly staff and quick service! The food was homestyle and very tasty. We will keep coming back on our way through! They treat everyone like family.

Yelp
We had been traveling for nine days and had yet to find a great place for breakfast. Today we succeeded with Donna's Main Street Diner. Everything and everyone was great. I had the steak and eggs breakfast and for $14 dollars it was the best bargain on the menu. Tasty, tasty! The chicken fried steak was also fantastic. Everyone's eggs cooked right and that is the challenge. The staff was super warm, kind, and efficient. Thanks to Alivia and McKenna for being so friendly. My only disappointment is that it may be a very long time until my next visit but for sure it would be a definite stop every time. GREAT JOB!!

Yelp
This is a solid performer...unpretentious and full of locals...i had the mushroom swiss burger and a pepsi witj fries, and it was perfect....not huge and not tiny....just right....The decor is basic and they have free wifi....Pepsi came in a can- for those that are particular snout that stuff.

Yelp
The app said it was closed but fortunately it wasn't. We loved this place. You have so many options and from our perspective, they are all fantastic. We ordered off the breakfast menu. Pancakes and biscuits & gravy. So, well, you might consider sharing a plate, as the plate are HUGE!!!! And if you share still order two so you get to try something else (see my I tried to finish my plate but failed comment later.) Ok, starting with the pancakes. They are uniquely good. A sweet taste, fluffy and HUGE. Multiple fruit syrups that seemed homemade but we asked and they aren't. But they had blueberry, apricot and maple. I had the biscuits and gravy. Two HUGE biscuits with a large patty sausage, and yes an egg on top too with one of the best white sausage gravies smothering everything include a large helping of hash browns. Too much to finish. I tried but failed. There is no extra room or space on the big plates. I was shocked to not see a Triple D sign as it is a bit of a dive and super good, and SUPER FRIENDLY servers too. So when driving through don't just pass it by. It's worth the time to stop, but bring your appetite!

Bruce P.

Yelp
Very kind and friendly service! The burger and breakfast were excellent! We were passing through and glad we stopped in!

Yelp
Great little place with very friendly employees!! Coffee was delish and our cup was always full. I had the "homemade " corned beef hash breakfast. It was really good and it was beef but it was not corned beef at all. Rather, just chopped up beef of some sort. Hubby had chicken fried steak. He said it was ok. He ate it all so it must have been.

Kerri B.

Yelp
Delicious, huge servings of breakfast/lunch. Super friendly staff. Small town diner with huge taste!!

Yelp
Cute little cafe making the kind of food you want. Great service and the food hit the spot! Look forward to coming back when the wind blows me on through.

K R.

Yelp
Food is good, although my drink was gone before the waitress brought the food and she didn't fill it up, nor did she check on us the entire time we were eatting! Not even 5 minutes after we got our food, she brought the ticket:/

Troy G.

Yelp
The food was excellent & the service was good. Follow up on how the meal was good. Definitely will go back!

Yelp
This little gem is a complete throwback. A proper diner straight out of the past. After three trips here for breakfast, the staff has always been friendly, coffee has always been flowing, and the food has always been tasty. Choices are limited in this part of the country, but I can recommend Donna's if you're in the neighborhood.

Lori K.

Yelp
This was our 2nd time stopping here leaving out of Spearfish SD back to home in Colorado and we just love how they make you feel like a local. No one is stranger. The food for us is top notch and big servings. We only had breakfast and I love their hash browns. They are great. I had the omelet that was huge and very tasty. They don't hold back the ingredients. My husband had the scramble and he had it the last time we stopped. Truly love this place and the people who work there. We wish it was closer to us but then we would have a weight problem.
google avatar

Drew W.

Yelp
As crazy as it sounds we jumped on the Harley's and headed out from Glendo Reservoir for a ride to New Castle. Yes, 160 mi for lunch... go figure. We stopped at Donna's for that lunch. Everyone was happy with the food and service. I had the BLT which was great and waffle fries we perfectly cooked
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
Best pancakes. Steak burrito was very good too. Locals meet here daily. And pancakes, did I say they were great. They are.

Patty H.

Yelp
Quaint little place . Great waitress very friendly . Food was delicious . I had a Reuben sandwich and hubby had an omelette. Best Reuben in a long time .

Herr M.

Yelp
Made a stop here for lunch on the way to Mount Rushmore. Yummy burger and steak quesadilla. Friendly service. Lunch ends at 2:00 pm.
google avatar

Yelp
Typical small town diner looks with amazing service and excellent food! Get the oatmeal pancakes with nuts on top!
google avatar

Nicole H.

Yelp
Absolutely wonderful. Not only will the delicious food blow you away (my family and I ate there both mornings we were in town), but the owner and those who assist her are friendly and welcoming. We will absolutely go back if we are in town. FYI, if they are offering the delicious blueberry pancakes, don't even hesitate, just get them.
google avatar

Mitzy L.

Yelp
Cozy diner. Beautiful vegetable omelette and great coffee. Enjoyed our friendly and attentive server.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Who knew an omelette could be so good! Perfect breakfast from the friendly workers to the locals coming in for breakfast. French toast and omelette, perfection!
google avatar

Albert A.

Yelp
Best breakfast on our cross country trip! Cut though town & sit down for a spell. Worth It!

Tom P.

Yelp
Good food and quick service. I was stuck in town waiting on car repairs, so ate here twice. They open at 6 but don't start serving food until 7AM.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped in for a quick breakfast after camping last night at Wind Cave NP. Super friendly staff and a (small) dining room full of locals. The breakfast sandwich was fresh and delicious, the coffee was fresh and hot and the experience was just what I needed.
google avatar

Lynn K.

Yelp
Nice diner in New Castle WY. I had coffee (very good) and a French dip sandwich. Fresh cut fries. If you are in this part of the world not a bad place to eat.
google avatar

Rocket R.

Yelp
Very good breakfast. Friendly staff and awesome coffee. Whodda thunk ! Could use a big people potty though.
google avatar

Edward L.

Yelp
Fantastic food for a very reasonable price. I had steak + hash brown + two eggs + bread for breakfast and it was wonderful. The steak was cooked medium-rare exactly as I requested and it was tender. Often times the steaks served at breakfast contain lots of gristle, not this one.
google avatar

Yelp
If you pass Newcastle, WY on either 85 or 16 be sure to stop at Donna's for Breakfast or Lunch. We had great sandwiches, egg salad and BLT, that each came with a side, home made chicken noodle soup and a really good small salad. All of the ingredients were fresh and high quality - best bacon ever. The prices are right and the service was excellent. They even have free wi-fi.
google avatar

Joe J.

Yelp
Nice place. Its a solid little main street diner. Its got everything you'd expect from one too. Real food, real people, real prices, and a real good time. Good prices, good service. Stop in here if you're in the area.

Carrie G.

Yelp
Passing through downtown and decided to stop. Service was amazing and the food was excellent. There is a notebook at each table that people can sign and look through. Definitely recommend anyone to anyone looking for a great breakfast.
