The Best Tasting Menus and Prix Fixe Dinners in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Beaverton is home to very few restaurants like Don’s Favorite Foods, a tiny Italian restaurant with an atmosphere that lands somewhere between midcentury dinner party and upscale lodge restaurant. And midcentury is not far off: Meals begin with things like Italian cold cuts and sesame popovers, clams casino and steak tartare, before moving into the world of pasta and larger, meaty mains. Owner Don Salamone blends his years in fine dining with childhood memories of his East Coast Italian American family dinners, which translate to dishes like short rib pizzaiola and pork braciole. Don’t confuse “classic” with “tired,” however; those family recipes are meticulously executed and polished, and dishes like ‘nduja carbonara or octopus with dandelion and castelvetrano olives are far from old hat. Dinner is $150 per person with vegetarian menus for $125; reserve via OpenTable." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

The Best Restaurants in Beaverton, Oregon | Eater Portland

"Beaverton is home to very few restaurants that offer prix fixe or tasting menus, but this intimate Italian American restaurant from Don Salamone, the man behind Burger Stevens, is filling the void beautifully. Meals begin with a flurry of antipasti — things like calamari salad or sesame popovers — followed by courses like sausage arancini, rigatoni alla vodka, and eggplant Parmesan. Mains are often showstoppers, whether it’s a stuffed veal breast with rapini caponata or filet mignon in cognac au poivre. Menus change monthly, generally clocking in at $150 per person. Make a reservation ahead of time."

Google
The loveliest little restaurant in downtown Beaverton. We came here for our anniversary and it did not disappoint. Love a fixed menu that takes the decision making out of ordering. Such a cute and cozy vibe inside. Phenomenal wine list - you can do a glass, bottle or full pairing with your courses (highly recommend). Would also get reservations, it’s a pretty small space. They do have a vegetarian menu as well. Staff was so friendly and thoughtful!

Google
This is definitely a hidden gem in Beaverton! The set menu rotate monthly and November menu was delicious! Chef Don brings out each course to your table and explains in detail the course. It is a very personal touch and makes you feel like part of the family. Great Italian food to celebrate any occasion with good friends and family. Definitely worth the price! Should celebrate your next occasion at Don's!!

What an awesome experience. All the dishes are so good, and it's such a cute place. Adding the wine pairings is a MUST, I enjoyed every single wine we got to try and they were each matched perfectly with the dishes. I went with my dad but would absolutely come back for date night with my husband.

Small, intimate dining area with great good. Pre fixe, so only drink decisions need to be made at the time of dining. You won't leave hungry. The anti pasta portions were very generous. The rest of the ourses weren't huge, but a normal portion. Each course was delicious and flowed well. It looks like the menu changes every month keeping the menu fresh. Highly recomend.

Google
Truly an experience dinner. Each of the many little dishes had bursting flavor and precise texture combinations. I loved how the octopus and potato coquette dish made the octopus as tender as normal mashed potatoes, while the potato coquette was compressed to have an almost dense meaty bite.

Wow. Prix fixe menu that was so delicious! I am not one to take pictures of my meals but I know this is a new place and wanted to share. Don and his crew have done a wonderful job. They've created an intimate, delicious dining experience that takes you on a journey. My favorite part was the personal touches Don added to the menu, I literally cried reading about the dessert and how special it is to him and his father. (Getting teary-eyed right now just thinking about it!). The foods are exceptional and executed perfectly. The pasta was perfect and was made that morning. The eggplant parmesan cut like butter and melted in your mouth. The clams were so well-balanced. The dessert- literally tear-inducing. Wine was delicious too! Very small kitchen and it's amazing what they have achieved in such a small space. They run like a well-oiled machine and their comradery shows through in the dishes they create. The maitre d is also lovely! Absolutely cannot wait to go back and say hello to Don and try more of his favorite foods!

Google
Had a wonderful experience here for Valentine's Day. The food surpassed expectations and the setting was very fun. We loved the six-course experience and, again, I can't say enough good things about the food. The perfect dinner date for a special occasion, and we look forward to coming back.

Yelp
Happened upon Don's Favorite Foods from a quick Google search for Italian restaurants in the Portland area, and I'm so glad I did! The service was incredibly personable--everyone made us feel right at home. We had the 7-course Feast of the Seven Fishes with wine pairings, and everything was delicious. The crab manicotti was definitely the highlight for me. The space is small and cozy, which made for a fun, intimate vibe. Don's is a must-try if you're looking for a unique reservation only, Italian restaurant experience.

Yelp
We have come to seek out Chef's Tastings menu (prix -fixe menus) and wine pairings dinners. It's something we enjoy doing as a couple for special occasions. Not sure how come all the raving reviews but here's our honest opinions for those that would have like a bit more discerning thoughts and review. First off, cute little place. Small intimate setting. Kind of dimly lit ambiance, hence the dark pics of tastings. The folks running the service here are very nice. Service is mindful and sweet as to be expected for this type of setup. Now about the food..., it's average to good.., not mind blowing like some reviewers are expressing. Pics of the dishes will not fully show the accurate size of the "tastings". Let's just say it's definitely bordering on very, very small 2-3 little bites of each plate. Mind you, we have had many other prefixed menus/ Chef's Tastings experiences, and we're not about quantity. It's what our experiences overall, that we like to share our honest feedback. As for the quality/tastes of each plating, we can say, we've had much, much better at some other fine Italian restaurants. Not mad about our experience. Just wanted others to maybe feel it out from our experience here. Also, don't set your expectations so high from reading all the raving 4-5 stars reviews on here, like we did, then you won't be let down or left confused & disappointed like were. Cheers!

Yelp
Finally made time to try this new amazing small neighborhood eatery in Beaverton....April 2024 menu!! Exceeded expectations and a warm warm welcomed addition to a vastly growing food scene in Beaverton!! Husband and wife tandem bringing elevated Italian/ French cuisine with a carefully selected pre fix menu and definitely recommend the half glass wine pairing!!! As seen in photos....But please pardon the amateur and poor photography!!! Food looks and taste waaaaay better!! Highly recommended! Super easy reservations and monthly menu changes so definitely something for everyone!! Parking can be a challenging but talk about a diamond in the rough!!! Pricing is way way under market and an incredible value so please go and support these wonderful owners!!

Yelp
Opened early December 2023 and excited we finally got a chance to check them out! The January menu was saying all the right things. We got there just before 5pm for our reservation and waited outside but turns out we could have gone inside if I used a little more muscle on the door ;) What an atmosphere to behold! Only 5 tables in this amazing space. The music, decor, and mood had us right away. Everyone is welcoming and gracious. Only just being seated and we were. already thinking of the next time we could return. You're taken to a different place and a different time. It's a joyful experience. Adam their sommelier is knowledgeable and charming. The dishes were all thoughtfully prepared and timed perfectly. Each dish was our new favorite. We could not be more pleased with the quality of food and service, and the genuinely kind people just made us feel like life could not be better than tonight. Highly recommend getting the wine pairing and I'm trying to figure how to get here once a month to check out the new menus! Book it!

Yelp
Beaverton has been waiting for a place like this for years and it has finally arrived. A prix- fixe menu with reserved seatings only, gentle music, a small intimate venue with a lovely atmosphere and decor and outstanding food. Upscale without being pretentious! We were greeted by Adam the sommelier (Don was stuck by the ice and snow and not available last night) who prepares and serves their selection of wines. Our food was prepared by two Cordon Bleu trained chefs who attended to the minutest details of each course and confection. Each to die for. We gave them a round of applause at the end of our meal. Don's menu changes and is issued a month in advance so February 2024 offerings including a vegetarian night and reservations are available now. We are new fans for sure! Parking is on the street.

Yelp
Lovely little place in Beaverton. Dons was such a needed surprise. We started with cocktails. I had a Negroni, but others at our table tried their Manhattan and Old fashion. Perfect drinks. The set menu began with a tiered lazy Susan of antipasto. It was the Italian equivalent of high tea and honestly now I want a whole meal like this. There was a fresh caprese with anchovy then the pasta dish was a beautiful glistening mound of carbonara. The rolled meat with Sunday sauce was my favorite. The deep richness of the sauce was unreal. The final bit to this amazing dinner was the panocatta and it didn't disappoint either. We had wine to pair which I would suggest. The 70s atmosphere, the story of Don and his family, and Don providing your meal with a true love for what he is doing, it was top notch and I can't wait to go back. I would love to have a private party here.

Yelp
Don's Favorite Food was our destination on April 5, 2024. It's a multi course preset menu for a fixed price. They have a limited wine list or you can get the wine pairing. Don and his staff prepared wonderful meal. It's a very small restaurant with a capacity of 15-20 people making for a very nice atmosphere and plenty of distance from the next table. They had a limited cocktail menu but the quality was good. We had Negroni's and Old Fashioned. Don and his wife Katie along with their Host Adam provided a fun evening with great food and personalized attention. This is a must visit. The

Yelp
Incredible experience. Five table restaurant offers an intimate experience no matter where you sit. Our server was very helpful with our drink selections and excited to describe each wine pairing we chose. The prix fixe menu for June was fun and delicious. Don himself delivered and explained each dish he was clearly proud of preparing. We never felt rushed and each course was delivered with perfect timing. We're excited to see what each month has to offer.

Yelp
Had a great meal at Don's tonight! Every single item was perfect, from the right amount of char on the octopus to the roasted pineapple atop the Zuppa Inglese. And there was Braciole! We went with the wine pairing option which was also good. Nice that there were half or full glass options on that. Both Don and Adam (the sommelier) were fabulous hosts who made us feel very welcome. Nice vintage china and glassware, and interesting music choices. Think 60s and 70s TV and movie soundtrack kind of stuff. Perfect evening!

Yelp
Outstanding food, service, ambiance, everything. The food was consistently refined but unpretentious, and every bite was balanced and sooo yummy. The service was a level of fine dining that we don't otherwise get in Beaverton, but still totally relaxed. It's a set menu, six courses the night we were there (maybe always?), each one delivered by Don with an explanation and background. Tiny space, make a reservation.

Yelp
I have been fortunate enough to have had several truly amazing dining experiences. So it's hard to really impress me. To say I was impressed by Don's favorite foods is an absolute understatement. This was hands down my favorite dining experience of my life. The atmosphere was so inviting and thoughtful. The staff were incredibly warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable. And the food. There aren't words to describe it. Insanely delicious is as best as I can come up with. Do yourself a favor and get yourself to Don's immediately.

Yelp
I ate here during Christmas break. I loved everything about it. Will never not go here when back there. I have nothing bad to say. Price, service, friendly staff. FREAKING AMAZING

Chris C.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to get a seat at the Feast of the Seven Fishes and I was pleasantly surprised at the menu and cocktails, especially for the burbs! Every dish was balanced, creative, and full of top tier seafood. I can't stop thinking about the baked scallop and lobster spaghetti.

Nancy L.

Yelp
Tiny place, memorable evening, and the food! A typical restaurant experience features a menu with lots of choices, where you choose an appetizer, a soup or salad, an entree, and maybe dessert. And the cost adds up! But at Don's, the menu is decided for you: prix fixe, with one price. (There are two, regular and vegetarian). We arrived, greeted, seated, and welcomed. The menu described our meal, we ordered wine, and the appetizers arrived. The chef makes his own sausages, prosciutto, and all of the elements of this delightful course. Then a first course followed, a precious, complex bite, followed by a pasta dish: divine. Then cioppino, wow!, then a salad, (fresh pea purée, fresh peas and sliced mushroom) and finally dessert (a crepe, with passion fruit, omg). Each course was so good, we laughed! Don (the Don of Don's Favorite Foods) presented each dish to us, and described the elements and flavors, with a smile. He's an enthusiastic chef. We figure we can eliminate a few dinners out that aren't that special, and go to Don's once a month. He changes the menu every month, so we should be good for a year. It doesn't matter what I make for dinner tomorrow night. It won't hold a candle.

Lucas B.

Yelp
amazing place and delicious food - the ambience, music, drinks, dinnerware, glasses - like going back in time...we loved it!
