This place offers good donuts and is family-owned, but it's unacceptable that they charge extra for credit card payments. They impose a fee because they rent their credit card machines. That cost should be absorbed within their business expenses, not passed on to customers. This is my first and last visit. The donuts are not the best I've tasted. I bought a half dozen along with two cinnamon rolls.

Paul Marogi

Google
The donuts here are really good. The raspberry filled and the peanut one were our favorites but they were all good. Their prices are fair also they don’t overcharge you for a donut like some other places. Will for sure be back to try other flavors they have.

Jovan

Google
Driving to this place, the parking lot was packed, but we found a spot. The line was about 10 people waiting when we walked in. The staff was quick and efficient with getting everyone what they wanted and keeping the line moving while still being friendly. The sprinkled cake donut was very good and tasty. I also got a cake donut with peanuts, and it was just as good. The donuts are well made and worth the trip.

Jenn B.

Google
The absolute best apple fritter I have ever had. Get multiple because you’ll crave it later and wish you had more like us. The Peanut donut and chocolate stick are just as great. Everything here is wonderful as was the kind staff serving us. Take cash. Go early.

I kept hearing about this place plus I’m next door from it. The smell of coffee in the morning and the fresh donuts holds a warm place in my heart. Taste amazing and customer service is nice you can tell they care about the customer and also what they do. The only downfall honestly is you can’t dine in at the moment.

Bonnie Haaseth

Google
Best donuts in town! Get there at least 1-2 hours before they close. If not, they will probably be sold out, which is not uncommon. *Hint..pay with cash if you can. If paying with a card, there will be a service fee.

Kyle Cooley

Google
Delicious, homemade, old-fashioned donuts! And they're no longer cash-only, there's just a small fee for using a card. It's run by two folks who are clearly passionate about what they do -- I overheard one of them mention that he got started at 2 am this morning! You can taste the care they put in. My favorites are the apple fritter, samoa, custard, and raspberry-filled, but just pick whatever sounds good; it will be!

Google
This is a real donut shop. No half stepping. Nothing melts down in ac on the way. Great texture and toppings. Not a national franchise. Very old school. That's makes it special too.

Yelp
Great selection of donuts and pastries! Everything was fresh, service efficient and it was easy in/out off Woodward.

Yelp
What a solid place to grab some delicious treats! I was told to stop here about a year ago from a friend who told me I would love their birthday cake donut (I love anything birthday cake flavored.) I drive by here almost weekly and finally ... One year later, I stopped it. I get really anxious in new places, especially places with a lot of patrons. The fact that the line is constantly out the door is daunting because I wasn't sure of how the line works. Truth js, there isn't really a good system in place here and that's just what works for DC. I got overwhelmed and just ordered a half dozen of birthday cake and cherry cake donuts. There were absolutely delicious. Stukk fluffy and flavorful a few days later. Next time I'll take my time looking at options but these were solid picks! There is a 3.99% charge for using card, so bring cash if that's easier for you. I will be back! Some of the best donuts I've ever had!

Linda T.

Yelp
Best donuts ever! The pastries remain fresh and fluffy for days. These are better than Dun'k or Kristy Kremes.
google avatar

Heather H.

Yelp
Amazing donuts! Lots of options to chose from. Line moves fast but I would bring cash.
google avatar

Yelp
Stopped by on my way to my doc appointment because I read good things about them . Unassuming building but the Donuts are EXCELLENT .
google avatar

Jay B.

Yelp
The service was fast and friendly. The donuts were mediocre. Standard fare. I was looking for more variety and tastier choices. Nothing extraordinary about the atmosphere.
google avatar

Alexander A.

Yelp
Don't believe the hype. There are better donuts not too far from this location. Service is friendly. Place is kind of small inside so it can get kind of cramped when the place is busy.

Lailah B.

Yelp
Great donuts the best. My only concern is they are often out of my favorite donuts the chocolate honey dipped and blueberry filled, I have to call to set aside if i want guarantee, the parking is always cramped and crowded unless you go super early expect it to be very busy, I like that they accept debit cards now I think, I hope to go back when I have the energy, the donuts are always tasty and fresh, they should get a bigger parking lot and bigger building to accommodate the big crowd, Also later hours like til 4 or 5, but I guess they sell enough not to need more hrs and they need rest too.

Yelp
Best neighborhood donut spot!! Made fresh. Family owned. And there is always a line out the door first thing in the morning because everyone in the neighborhood knows the donuts will be hot!! My favorite is the cinnamon roll and my husbands favorite is the apple fritter.
google avatar

CJ M.

Yelp
BEST DONUT shop in town - not even close! The now accept cards for a fee, 2.99 percent, which is understandable from a historically cash venue. The flavor, the service, the spot is so perfect! It's a must try! Warning: get there early for the most choices or be sad when your donut choice is picked over by other patrons. Enjoy the great taste! You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
The best--by far--cinnamon roll in the entire metro region. I drive 45 minutes just to by a half dozen.
google avatar

Jenna E.

Yelp
I've been coming here for years! My favorite donuts! The apple fritters are amazing!!! Bring cash with you and go in the morning, it's worth it!

Yelp
This is a no-frill donut shop you need if you're a sweet tooth or donut fan. Even if you're not, I'd recommend trying anyway, as long as you're not allergic to sweets. They're open at like 4 AM, only until around 3 PM. I went on Friday morning, around 8 AM-ish, and it was perfect. Just the perfect morning rush feel. It was busy but not wild. Their flavors are more old-fashioned, not the crazy Florida or NY kind (if you know what I mean). I mean, crazy new flavor inventions are good, but sometimes you miss the homey old-school donuts, no? I do. I initially planned to try only the apple fritter because everyone seems to be raving about them, and I also love apple fritter. However, upon visiting, I couldn't help but get a donut as well. I had the Samoa flavor. The donut felt more cakey than yeasty, but it was very moist and light. I gave it an 8/10. It was absolutely delicious but similar to other good donut shops I've tried. I still enjoyed it, though. Then I moved on to the apple fritter. This one was one heck of a surprise. By the way, the apple fritter is as big as my face. I thought I'd had an apple fritter, but I've never had one like The Donut Cutter. It's SO unexpectedly crispy on the outside while maintaining a fluffy inside. I never thought apple fritter could be actually, deliciously crispy. It was super sweet, though. Honestly, I struggled to finish it because I was already sugar overloaded from the Samoa donut before. However, after I was finished (feeling a bit nauseous from the sugar), 2 hours later, I thought of the apple fritter again. That's how I know these apple fritters are no joke. Service is fast. Cash is preferable. They take cards but charge 3-4% extra. There are signs all over the shops noting that, and they still confirmed with me when I handed them my card. Appreciate the courtesy!

Kelley C.

Yelp
Everything I've tried is wonderful. The cake doughnuts are light and not heavy. The apple fritter I got as of 10:00 AM is still warm.
google avatar

Kat M.

Yelp
Soooo good. Their donuts melt in your mouth. I love this little gem. They have a good variety donuts.

Marian F.

Yelp
OK, yes, they have good donuts.... Coffee is very weak.... However, the three ladies working at the counter, I had a very poor attitude !

Yelp
Came by at 7am and was pleasantly surprised to see this place super lively and packed. I never go into any type of shop and see so many people so excited to dive into the options. It makes the experience so much more friendly and whole. There were so many freshly made options to choose from. It helped that the staff made some recommendations and pointed me into the right direction. The red velvet, maple, and samoa donuts were all fantastic. I came back within the next few days, because I just had to try some more.

Angela H.

Yelp
The donuts are amazing and they are delicious and the best staff I would definitely recommend to donut lovers
google avatar

Samantha M.

Yelp
Great classic donuts. Sometimes things are over done, too fancy. Our son will take a Donut Cutter donut anytime and that can not be said for all donuts.

Julie T.

Yelp
We love getting treats from The Donut Cutter for special occasions at my job! Everything is so fresh and delicious! Make sure you get there early to have a lot of options before things sell out. You know it's a quality place when you need to get there before they sell out!

Yelp
Our friends who hosted us this weekend told us these were the best donuts in Detroit and we were so happy to experience them. Every donut we tried was fresh and melted in your mouth. My personal favorites were the cream filled and the Apple fritters. If you are a fan of Apple fritters, then this is the place for you. Wow. Just wow.

Char S.

Yelp
I had to update my review. I went this morning and these donuts are honesty the best I've ever had. I'll deal with weekend only for these lol

Isac K.

Yelp
I REALLY wanted to love the donuts here. I love hole in the wall places and was really excited to visit this place. The service was great, they were very kind, and if this review was just on service service, it would be 5 stars. I ordered 4 donuts. My first bite, with much anticipation, felt like I bit into pure sugar. Sure, donuts are SUPPOSED to be sweet, but great donuts are so much more than that. The sweetness was overpowering, to the point where I tried to eat just the bottom of the donut without the icing. I'm willing to go back and give them another try; maybe it was just a bad batch.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Best donuts around. Real donuts not the kind with all the shit on it. Family owned business and they're really friendly. They also do huge donut cakes and they're delicious.

Yelp
Classic family-owned vintage feeling doughnut shop with excellent treats! This is easily the best doughnut spot in the area and a favorite amongst the local hospital staff. Every time I see a Donut Cutter box, I know that I have to have one. They have a wide variety of flavors to choose from, all for a pretty low price ($18 for a dozen as of the writing of this review). I do highly recommend bringing cash if you can, as they do charge 4% if a debit or credit card is used. The workers there are all very nice and if you see a long line just know that it moves quickly and is well worth the wait!!! This is my go-to donut spot when I get treats for work or to share with friends, and they often ask where I get them from. This is the spot, and I highly recommend giving them a try!
google avatar

Yelp
Best donuts we've ever had bar none. Get there early though as they sell out. We love this place!!!

Yelp
Had a hankering for donuts and The Donut Cutter met our criteria: *we wanted no frills donuts - sorry there's a time and place for maple bacon, dulce de leche and other new age fancy flavors, but that time and place wasn't today for us! *we wanted a no frills donut that wasn't from a chain! - I love me some krispy kreme but there are so many awesome mom&pop shops around this part of town that we felt the need to support local! *we wanted a non frills donut that wasn't from a chain but ALSO had the variety - I say this because I LOVE cake donuts and my fiance likes yeast-risen fluffy, soft donuts. We were able to walk out of The Donut Cutter with 6 soft and fluffies and 6 dense and cakey! Perfect! There was a surprisingly long line but the husband and wife duo (maybe?) worked quickly. Even as a dense and cake donut lover, I was glamoured with their soft & fluffies. Solid donut spot! 313/365

Yelp
These donuts are so moist and fresh! I'm a huge fan of their cake donuts especially. Highly recommend!! Also note it cash only!
google avatar

Mara W.

Yelp
Excellent yeast and cake donuts. The cake donuts are light and moist. The yeast are perfect texture and density! Thoroughly enjoyed them. My son loved the fruity pebble. My husband loves the glaze and sour cream. I loved the Samoa, sour cream and filled buttercream! As a donut lover and always looking for the perfect donut we will be back!
google avatar

Jaewoo S.

Yelp
Great donuts but bring cash if you don't want an extra charge for putting onto your credit card!
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
Look no further to find the best donuts in the area. I love their blueberry donut and old fashioned. But you can't go wrong with whatever you pick out! They accept debit and credit card and no longer require just cash!
google avatar

Lynn S.

Yelp
Paczki day did not disappoint. Line was out the door and in the parking lot. Streamlined and efficient service and highly desired flavors continued to be restocked. Great teamwork and great product. Tender and soft inside while a great exterior and glaze outside. Raspberry and custard flavors for the win.
google avatar

Eowyn K.

Yelp
The Donut Cutter is deservingly rated as the best in the area for a reason. You know they are good when they can get away with only accepting cash (an FYI for others they use only plastic). They are my brother's favorite when he is out visiting from across the state, and I have to bring the apple fritters when I travel home. Just as they are cash only, this is a no frills place. There have been several fancy, pretty shiny donut places that have popped up in the area, and while theirs are less Instagramable, the quality and taste is what really counts to me. They have a large variety of all the classics, and everything I've tried has been fluffy and fresh, with the right amount of crispness on the outside. You can also feel good about supporting a small family owed business!

Yelp
It says Voted Best Donuts right on the window; I can't say I wanna argue. Let me start with the apple fritter, it is heavenly. It's a quaint little spot and we were greeted with smiles right away. We always have to get sprinkles for my daughter and she seems to be enjoying it very, very much. The glazed is amazing too, I'll take it over a certain other glazed any day. All in all, we had a fun little trip and it's a spot worth coming back to for future adventures.

M C.

Yelp
One of the best donuts in the whole metro area get there early on a Saturday morning, they do sell out.
google avatar

Howard S.

Yelp
Best donuts ever. Always fresh and the staff always friendly. Open early and convenient
google avatar

Nicole E.

Yelp
Note: This place is cash only. I have been here only a couple of times, it's the closest for me to my house, but I can't seem to make it in before they run out of a variety of donut flavors and I rarely have cash on my person. I am satisfied, so long as I can snag a custard and a sour cream or buttermilk donut at least. This is a good donut spot for bringing in a dozen or two dozen donuts for work folks. They offer many different kinds of donuts, but most are too sugary and overwhelming for me. My standard for a good donut anywhere is their sour cream, custard and their fritter. They are quite suitable here. My litmus for a great donut is DG in Detroit. The size of the donuts here are standard size, dough isn't bad. Prices are reasonable.
google avatar

Nikhila K.

Yelp
One of the only places that was open on thanksgiving morning. I swear I was so happy. Accepts cash only. Loved the chocochip cookie
google avatar

JLimo V.

Yelp
Had to be up early but totally WORTH it! You've never had a good Doughnut until you've tasted one from here! I love the sugar raised, my husband loves the samosa and my kids love the red velvet & powdered sugar creme filled. Yum!
google avatar

Lee J.

Yelp
This is the spot for donuts in the Royal Oak-Birmingham area. Donut Cutter is reminiscent of old charm donut shops. They have all the classics, variations of classics, seasonal flavors, and even some experimental ones. BRING CASH HERE its just easier. I got 4 donuts on my first visit: Classic Glazed, Chocolate Raised, Buttercream Filled, and Salted Carmel. The yeasted donuts (glazed, chocolate raised) were nice and fluffy and not sopped in frosting. The cake donut (salted caramel) was moist and flavorful; usually I'm not a fan of cake donuts. And my favorite, Buttercream filled, was so delicious, with a rich buttercream filling topped with chocolate frosting.

Yelp
Being Polish I grew up with soft and fluffy paczki, so I was never a fan of American cake donuts. That was simply not my thing, until I got introduced to Donut Cutter and their goodies. First I had a pleasure to try their custard paczki and I cried with a huge smile on my face because I finally found something in US that was the closest thing to true Polish paczki. I knew that if I ever crave paczki, this will be my place to go. They are the best I ever tried in US. Today friend of mine brought some cake donuts from this place and I followed my inner curiosity and tried few of them. Oh my, they were very fresh, dense but very moist, not dry at all and I really liked them. Again, I'm and always be a paczki fan but if I ever get to the point that I need a donut, this will be my place to go. My favorite ones were red velvet, sugar coated and glazed. Not a fan of nut flavor. I'll definitely try other flavors. My only concern is that now I'll need a huge power from don't know where not to stop by this place every single morning while passing on my way to work! This will be tough!
google avatar

Deanna C.

Yelp
My cousin bought me one of these fritter and when I say it was deelish it reminded me of my childhood going to the bakery buying these believe me I savored every morsel great job DONUT CUTTERS
google avatar

Bernadette B.

Yelp
I've been to this place a few times, and the donuts are great! It's a solid local business if you're craving some sweet "breakfast", but they aren't the best donuts I've ever had. I ordered the glazed donuts, the red velvet, the chocolate iced, and the nutty donut. I liked them all, and I've had the fruity pebble donut before. It's good, just not life altering. If you want donuts though, you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Yelp
stopped at Donut Cutter on Woodward in Royal Oak Michigan donuts for clients means one for me. Voted #1 in the area. great donuts
google avatar

Hannah H.

Yelp
I had the best yeast risen chocolate dipped donut from here. I wished I knew it was cash only because I would have tried other flavors. My friend tried a few others and loved them. Great place to go! You get quality, tasty donuts at a great price.
google avatar

Alla R.

Yelp
Oh my god!My life will never be the same. They are so fresh and tasty I regret getting only a few pc!Dough is so soft and tasty, custard soooooo creamy and yummy, strawberry finning very tasty and almost like a gel.Need to try and stay away from the place before I gain 10 lbs....but I'm not sure I can resist Tip:cash only!

Sue P.

Yelp
This is my first time having the fritter! I was standing in line and I was going to get the cherry cake donut when I saw them bring out a fresh tray of fritters. Get the fritter if you have the opportunity!
google avatar

Marc N.

Yelp
I love donuts so much that I don't even eat D***kin or Kr***py Kr***e. Donut Cutter makes the best donuts I've ever had. Seriously. I stop at donut places everywhere I go and nothing has ever topped them. Add to that that it's a family run joint where they remember you and your kids and they are so kind and they work their donut holes off to be there for their customers every day of the week. DC is an institution.

Yelp
Great, traditional (cake-like) donuts. A true metro Detroit staple located on the Woodward Corridor.
