The Best Doughnut Shops in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"This Aloha shop is the place to be for those who love a cake doughnut — moist and almost custardy, the crumb on Donut Day’s fritters and chocolate glazed is downright decadent. The raised rings also have a nice fluffiness, for those who prefer something a little lighter. Flavors change periodically, but if a pineapple fritter appears in the case, it’s worth an order." - Rebecca Roland

Google
Great local donut shop. Servicing is really fantastic. They didn't have the donut and icing that I had that I was looking for so they went ahead and made 4 for us. It was ready in two minutes.

M Clemens

Google
This is such a wonderful donut shop. It’s a family run operation and I love that. Very friendly people and great quality. Everything I ordered was excellent, but the blueberry old fashioned blew my mind. It was both substantial as an old fashioned should be but the outside was also amazingly light and so crisp! That old fashioned was better than any I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this gem of a donut shop. You can’t go wrong!

Google
These are *the* best donuts. I mean this with no exaggeration. Everyone will have their own bias- simple glazed donuts, complex and intricately crafted ones- but these are, frankly, The Best Donuts. The dough is flavorful and fried *perfectly*, just a touch crispy on the outside and perfectly fluffy on the inside. And they have such an incredible range of flavors, with what is clearly all house made fillings, toppings, etc. and they're TWO DOLLARS. Do yourself a favor and come pick up a half dozen. I highly recommend the espresso cream, peanut butter crunch, and Mexican mocha.

Zea mays

Google
This dimly lit donut shop was a little off putting inside, and had an unpleasant chemical smell, but the donuts were of very high quality. I prefer cake donuts to raised, so that's what I'm describing. Wonderful, soft, moist texture with just a touch of crispness here and there on the outside. Cardamom in the powdered cake donuts was perfection.

Google
I bought half a dozen donuts and some donut holes. I was disappointed and disgusted with the Espresso and Cream donut. Not only did it not taste like espresso, but it also had hair in it!!! 🤮 This was my first time trying this place, and it will be my last. I was almost done eating my donut, and before I took the last bite, I looked down and saw a piece of white hair in the donut. It had resistance as I pulled it out and saw that it was actually longer than what I initially saw. What a waste of money and food because my family and I will not be eating the rest of the donuts I bought.

Google
This donut shop is such a gem in our town! They have an awesome selection with lots of unique and interesting flavors — definitely not your average donut spot. I especially love that they offer so many fruity options, which can be hard to find elsewhere! The staff is always friendly and efficient, and I’m usually in and out with my order in no time. It’s the perfect place to grab a quick treat that never disappoints. Highly recommend if you’re looking for something fun, fresh, and delicious!

Justin

Google
Small business, you never know what you’re going to get when you walk in but generally the service is friendly. The donuts are incredible though. Truly the best I’ve had in this area and I keep coming back. Cannot recommend them enough. Give them a try. Their fritters and maple bars are top notch. Light and airy but still filling and reasonably priced.

Google
I've been coming here for years and it's the only donut shop I will go to. The people who run it are so kind. The lady often offers my daughter a donut hole to eat on our drive home. It is clean. And the donuts are just so much better than anywhere else

Yelp
Best donut I've had in Oregon yet (Cinnamon roll). The sub quality services called Yelp, demands I write more- so give Donut Day a try.

Yelp
Very tasty donuts and very kind team! Be sure to get there early on the weekends. We got a dozen donuts for 2 people and will eat them all lol The donuts are fresh and good quality!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
The best donuts in Hillboro! Always good, wide selection. Massive cake donut, so soft, plush, sprinkled with cinnamon sugar.

Jenna H.

Yelp
Yummy donut shop we came across while visiting Oregon! Our favorite was the blueberry old fashioned donut. The donuts were unique because they were fried to a crisp crunch.

Yelp
Ummm...it has been a long time since I have reviewed Donut Day. Possibly the reason is because the family has moved out to Beaverton...we don't double back towards Aloha very much any more. While their Donuts are amazing it is kinda good that I live a decent distance away. It could get addicting...very quickly. Anyway I went into work the other day, and my Pharmacist on duty, came over to my station and said, "I got you an apple fritter from Donut Day." She obviously knew that this was my favorite, basically because I talk about it all the time. So I thanked her, put it to the side and kept working wondering what she got everyone else. So on lunch, I had, yes, an apple fritter. Mind you this thing could feed three normal humans, however pharmacy work requires more carbs than you could imagine. I ate the WHOLE THING, and I washed it down with a Diet Coke. Not the healthiest of lunches, but it powered me for the rest of my shift. The next day I discovered that other workers did not get one. I think they might have been a little jealous/upset, but I let it go. Pharmacists are known for being quite attentive to their surroundings. Hope to make a personal visit to Donut Day soon... P.S. Congrats on being named #73 on YELPs Top 100 Best Donut Shops in the USA. I would have put you at least Top 50.

Yelp
I was having some cravings for donuts and particularly the raspberry jam filled ones and glazed donuts. It was our first time here and it's a very cute place and it's still open while undergoing renovation. New parking lot however inside is being renovated. We were greeted by a very lovely young lady and maybe she's also the owner? She let us sample the donut holes (those smaller pieces) to try glaze vs cake and that was so kind of her. We fell in love with how fresh and delicious the donuts were and bought a 1/2 dozen. I was in love with their glaze donut and it tasted so fresh and soft and got to say, was quite addicting. The chocolate and regular glazed ones were the best. Tried the blueberry jam and raspberry jam filled and it was no longer my craving. It switched to the glaze ones!! Donut holes are a good option for those that just want to snack and not over overdo! The lady was so kind she gifted us a bag the donut holes! Great first time experience!

Yelp
We love our Donut Day, especially the Cinnamon twists and maple bars. The donuts are fresh and the cinnamon twists are huge. The family running it is very nice and they work very hard.

Yelp
Saturday 9/23/23 I found this spot through Yelp while looking for the best donuts in Portland. Their menu had a variety of different fruit fritters that I had never seen before and I had to try them. I spent 24$ on a dozen of donuts for the house: half dozen fancy donuts (cinnamon roll, apple fritter, cookies n cream donut, pineapple fritter, blueberry fritter, and raspberry fritter) for $16 and 4 regular donuts (2 glazed, 1 coconut stuffed, and 1 coconut regular) for $8. The different kinds of fruit fritters were all very unique and very good; my favorites were the pineapple fritter and apple fritter. The cinnamon roll ended up being pretty decent and was even better when microwaved back at home. The cookies n cream donut was good and unqiue: it came with a chocolate cake/donut base and great toppings design for a good taste. The glazed donut was solid. All in all, this was definitely my favorite donut spot I went to while in Portland and it's not even close. I would recommend for others to come enjoy these great donuts and I would definitely return if possible. I am definitely glad Yelp sent me here!

Yelp
Just okay. The maple cake donuts tasted like there was raspberry in the maple frosting which was odd. We came later in the day and most of the donuts were out, which is our fault. Prices were fine. Staff was fine. Tried the cinnamon roll donut, nothing to get excited about. Okay donuts, will try again in the morning in the future. Just so so

Yelp
We had driven past many times, it always looked closed. Recommend by a friend and glad we stopped. Cute little independent donut shop. Sunday at 10 am and they were almost sold out. The ladies at the counter were very nice even though they were hoppin. All the old school flavors and some of their own creations. I had the cream filled devil dog hubs had a cinnamon twist. These were huge, fresh and reasonably priced. I'd have to say I like these better than any others in the PDX area. What a gem.

Yelp
Great hospitality and delicious donuts. This is the family's go to spot in Hillsboro. We love coming here and trying out many donuts! A little construction for the parking area but they are fully operational!!

Yelp
This location of Donut Day in Aloha is old school. They don't have a website or social media. But stop by in person and you'll be pleased with the variety of classic donuts they offer and the friendliness of the customer service. They've got a small parking lot off the busy road. The interior has a decent amount of seating but it's not fancy. You'll probably want to get the donuts to go. As of yesterday, a dozen is $17.50, two dozen is $32. Each donut is $2 unless you're getting a "fancy" one and then it's $3. Seems like reasonable pricing to me. I got an assortment and enjoyed everything. They've got so many donut types here it could take a while to find your favorites. What a difficult task! ;)

Natalie W.

Yelp
They gave me a moldy donut I felt too nauseous to go back and ask for a refund or different donut but just beware
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
Very Good donuts. I am a many times repeat customer. Service is always friendly. Ambience is nothing special.

J J.

Yelp
Lady in the front was so nice and helpful. Even gave us some extras to try since we bought quite a bit. Apple fritters and long John's were good!
google avatar

Joe G.

Yelp
The donuts here are fantastic. Nothing too fancy, but every donut is done very, very well. I spoke with the owner many years ago who told me his process and his enthusiasm for his product was unmistakable. This really comes thru in the quality of the donuts. Unfortunately, the younger woman working here is a miserable person. Dry, no personality, and she likes rolling her eyes at the customers. Sorry, but you sell donuts. A good attitude is expected of you so if you don't like your job, do something else Mrs. Donut Downer.

Claudia C.

Yelp
The donuts are fantastic. I love glazed buttermilk donuts, and Donut Day's are excellent. The woman who assisted me was gracious and understood what I wanted just by my rather somewhat silly descriptions. Their donuts are displayed so that you can easily view them. There are plenty to choose from, if variety is your thing. The best for me is they are located just a quick jaunt from my house.

Yelp
One word... FRITTERS!!!! Oh my lands are their fritters amazing. Not just apple but pineapple, blueberry, raspberry, oh my! AND THEY'RE THE SIZE OF YOUR HEAD, maybe slightly exaggerating on that but they're huge! So are the twists! Other donuts are fantastic but the fritters... I crave them fortnightly! The folk there are super friendly. I just wish they still had their Tigard location! Seriously, get a fritter and maybe some stretchy pants!
google avatar

Yelp
Best Donut in Portland, no contest. Voodoo donuts, yeah it's good. I love a good voodoo donut. But they are no match for Donut Day. Blue star donuts, yes, they are fantastic. I love blue star donuts especially their key lime donut it really makes my day. But I will take Donut day over blue star 7 out of 7 days of the week. It's worth noting: there's nothing fancy about Donut day. They are as classic as it gets. Small little building with standing room only and they serve only the classics. Fritters, old fashioned, maple bars, ect - you know the type. It's just a small mom and pop outfit. I love the owners though - they are such subtle characters. The old man always has a big smile on his face he's always so happy looking. And the mom is always there, a little stern but so polite and attentive. They are real people and I love it.

Ed M.

Yelp
Best donuts in Hillsboro and Beaverton hands down! Give it a try for yourself and reply.

John R.

Yelp
Delicious donuts, family-owned. Honestly, the best fresh donuts in town that have the classics... no frills, lots of options.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
Had to stop and grab a few donuts from our local favorite spot today! Strawberry cheesecake, Dutch crunch Apple fritter, Dutch crunch lemon filled me cinnamon twist. These are always so squishy and delicious!

Gayle R.

Yelp
I used to go to his other building up the street early morning and got his donut holes for my workers. He has the best fresh donuts and good coffee. Thanks
google avatar

Becky M.

Yelp
Wow!!! We went in today, Friday at 3:00pm and picked up some donuts for our afternoon sweet tooth. We got a maple cake, maple bun, raspberry fritter, and some glazed. The maple cake and maple bun had us licking our fingers, sooo good. We could have stopped there but decide to split a glazed. My husband and I believe these are THE BEST glazed donuts we've ever had! Family owned and run. Run in and get your donuts people! Forget big Portland donut places, me and my hubby found our favorite treats.
google avatar

Yelp
I don't eat donuts more than 2-3 times per year so when I do, I am picky! After reading reviews, I decided to try Donut Day. It was great! Their selection is unbelievable. They must have at least 60 types of donuts. In fact, after I ordered, I spotted a section to the right I hadn't even looked at! In general, Donut Day's donuts are not greasy at ALL and just the right amount of sweetness. I chose the apple fritter and the Boston Cream. My husband had the maple bar and standard jelly. My Boston may be the best I have ever had, excellent amount of cream, and chocolate icing was not too sweet. The apple fritter could have used more or bigger apple pieces. Also, not enough craggy, crunchy, bumpy places is why I like fritters. Tasted good though! Hubs enjoyed his donuts, nothing special to report here. Owners are efficient and attentive. Added bonus: nice customers! I forgot to order my husband's coffee after the next customer had already stepped up. The couple graciously let me butt in and the owner accommodated me without fuss. Thank you, mystery customers and kind owners! I started to give 4 stars because of the slightly less-than-perfect fritter but shoot, that isn't right! I only think that takes them down maybe 1/3 of a star. Five stars it is! I will be back!

Jim S.

Yelp
I have been a big fan of Donut Day since they opened in the old location. The only apple fritter I ever had that compared was at Perfection bakery in Hillsboro, snd that was 60 - 65 years ago.
google avatar

Cindi F.

Yelp
I got one thing to about this place, GREAT DONUTS!!!!!! For us from the east coast, the second closest you can get to DD, if you know you know.

Brenin J.

Yelp
Best doughnuts and the latte was great too! Definitely check this place out The family that owns it are very nice as well, makes me happy to support this small business
google avatar

Sean S.

Yelp
The donuts are amazing. The place is kind of a little whole in the wall but donuts are yummy. Not really any place to sit and eat so we got them to go

Obama c.

Yelp
the people are so kind and have amazing donuts. every time I go in I get a warm welcome. The donuts are the best in the area and the inside is so cozy.

Celestina B.

Yelp
We have been going to this donut shop for over 8+ years. It is the only donut place we visit. Nothing compares. Their donuts are well made, fluffy, moist when needed, flavorful but not too sweet, consistent in flavor and perfect. The service is always warm and friendly. They are an awesome family owned business. We always have joyed chatting with them. A great neighborhood place. Give it a try. You will not be disappointed.
google avatar

Jim A.

Yelp
My new favorite donut spot. I will drive miles for a good donut and this place is worth the drive. Loads of donut flavor combinations that's I've never seen before. They make the perfect old fashioned with the right amount of exterior crunch. Bring cash to help support this small business
google avatar

Chris L.

Yelp
I was in the area and decided to check out Donut Day after seeing them ranked in the top 100 donut shops in America. The building is just off a busy road and doesn't look anything special from the outside. And even the inside could use some help - their floor had been ripped out so perhaps they are in the midst of a renovation. They have a wide selection of donuts, so I opted for a variety and ended up getting a dozen. All of them were excellent and what I would describe as really good standard donuts (nothing high-end...just solid traditional donuts). The staff were really friendly and the prices were very reasonable. I'd come back here again.

Ken K.

Yelp
I'd give a four for the quality of the product, a three for the atmosphere and a one for the friendliness, or lack therof. The lady who helped me was not at all friendly. Felt like I was bothering her by being there yesterday afternoon.
google avatar

Jafari C.

Yelp
By far my favorite place in Beaverton. I mean perfect old-school donuts made to perfection. Costumer service is great too. Go there!!

Jeff P.

Yelp
I went to Donut Day months ago even though I don't eat donuts very often. Could not have been more pleased with soft and light donuts I purchased. Well priced for such high quality. My next donut will be at Donut Day. Grazie JP.

Andrew F.

Yelp
Family lovely place and donuts are so soft and good. Took my daughter who is 2 and they were so kind.

Yelp
First of all, the address on Yelp is incorrect. It led us to the empty building. We circled around the building multiple times and left. But somehow I just know that the shop was very close by. So we googled instead. The correct address is 18955 SW Tualatin Valley Hwy, Beaverton, OR 97006. NOT 18295. Then the donuts!!! OMG! They are so soft, no greasy, not too sweet, and very cake like. One of very picky eaters in our group LOVES the donuts so much that she asked to come back again. She had chocolate one. And the owners and their family members there to help out: they are so sweet; hard working; and best of all, very sweet. Just something about them that sends out very comforting and good vibes. We LOVE this donuts shop so much,
google avatar

Angel L.

Yelp
Fancy donuts (noticeably bigger than others) are $3 and regular donuts are $2. You can also opt for donut holes - 6 for $1.95 Parking lot is a little bit sketchy (broken glass, faded lines, etc). The atmosphere has the vibe of an old gas station. Would recommend grab and go. Tried the double chocolate cake donut and the orange buttermilk bar. Cake donut was solid - no surprises here, but the orange buttermilk bar was simply divine! The orange flavor is strong and well distributed throughout the donut with pieces of orange peel. If you love your old fashioned donuts, but want a little something to spice it up, this is the pick. Looking forward to returning and trying some fritters.
google avatar

Bob R.

Yelp
This is a review by a vegetarian Decent donuts but nothing super special. Place itself is kind of rickety. Open at 6am.

David P.

Yelp
Best donuts ever. Friendly service. The best place I have been for donuts. This is a business I support and feel good about recommending

Jackie L.

Yelp
I saw this recommendation on Next door and decided to try it. I got there just after 6am and the selection was limited so I'd suggest going later if you're looking for éclairs or other fancy donuts as they call them. I think these are just a smidge better than Sesame. The Mexican hot chocolate donut is phenomenal though! I'd stay away from the chocolate sprinkle. The taste of the chocolate was very dry and it was like a lot of sugar was added to cover it???? This one is the reason I gave 4 instead of 5. We'll be back for all the others though!
google avatar

Kim R.

Yelp
Always searching for an exceptional donut! I decided to drive by and give it a try based off some consistently good reviews. I stopped on a weekday, around 11am. They seemed to be out of many options, but I chose 3 different ones and a dozen holes: regular glazed for the holes, along with a white iced cake with sprinkles, an old fashioned, and a cookies n cream chocolate cake donut. The holes were good and moist. My husband really liked the cookies n cream, the cake was not at all sweet, which for us was appreciated since icing is always so sweet. (The icing decor was a bit messy in appearance). Same low sweetness level in the vanilla cake donut. The icing used for it has a different kind of texture, kind of whipped, not my favorite. The old fashioned was pretty good, but tasted a tad oily compared to all the others. The building itself could use a bit of a facelift, inside and out. And the donut display boxes seemed somewhat messy. In a nutshell, the donuts had highs and lows, an average rating overall. I would like to stop by again sometime earlier to see what they have to choose from when the bins are full. Good enough for a second try? I think yes.
google avatar

Daffy D.

Yelp
I am a Donut fanatic and Donut Day is an exceptional place, it's owned and operated by a married couple from Iraq, the husband makes the donuts and the lady makes the best Middle Eastern coffee blend in the morning, it's just a regular brewed coffee in a thermos but she adds her own blended coffee to it and it is sooooo good, her husband makes one of the best fritters and pair that with her coffee is like heaven! I live in Seattle and I make the drive to this place just for the donuts and coffee, it's that good for me.
google avatar

Janice M.

Yelp
Great family run place. My grandson loves their donut holes! The donuts are fresh and delicious.

Cole M.

Yelp
Donuts were so good- my wife said the pumpkin cake was the exact one she's been looking for after years of looking. I got the glazed blueberry filled which was terrific, and the nice woman working hooked us up with the lemon cream cheese to try later! Thank you!
google avatar

Jason J.

Yelp
Great doughnuts . Wide variety fresh and tasty. The That 1 Painter Oregon City team purchased for a Holi Senior Event. They loved them!!
google avatar

Sam H.

Yelp
Absolutely the best donuts ! The owners are the sweetest people ever!! Highly recommended

Jo S.

Yelp
First of all let me preface this with admitting that I am not a donut person but took my friend here because it was highly recommended and yes I see why. I got a chocolate eclair donut and it was literally filled with delicious custard. My friend tried the Dutch crunch apple fritter and the espresso donut and said they were incredibly tasty. The dough is light and not at all greasy. Cute little shop that does have a small amount of indoor and outdoor seating. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!
