The Best Doughnuts in Nashville | Eater Nashville

"From its food truck origins, Shauna McCoy’s Donut Distillery is now a growing franchise business with a shop and a drive-thru in East Nashville, a stall with a limited menu at the Assembly Food Hall downtown, and even market pop-ups. As the name suggests, this hip shop specializes in the intersection of mini doughnuts and alcohol — whiskey-glazed doughnuts, coffee cocktails, Dreamsicle doughnut milkshakes spiked with tequila, and even mimosa flights paired with doughnuts. Donut Distillery is open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily (except for Saturday, when it stays open until 8 p.m. and Sundays until 5 p.m.), and the vibe is very “boozy brunch.”" - Eater Staff

Google
They had me at donuts! My husband and I were passing through, and the name is actually what made us stop. I love that their donuts are so small. It allows you to try many flavors without going into a diabetic coma. My favorite was the sweet swine. The maple really shined through. The whiskey glaze was pretty good. I'm just not a fan of whiskey, but you can definitely taste the whiskey, so I'm sure it will appeal to many. They have so many interesting drinks, shakes, donut shots. I could see this being a really fun place for a bachelorette party or a girls' night out. The service was top-notch as well, really friendly staff.

We went to the Donut Distillery on a recent trip to Nashville! It was a stop on our Secret Food Tours - East Nashville tour. Such a great vibe! Loved the atmosphere and both donuts we got were incredible. The Whiskey Glaze donut is a Donut Distillery original made with TN whiskey. It was delicious - sweet, austere, soft, and subtle! It had just the right touch of whiskey, where it felt like an elevated glazed donut. My personal favorite was the Frosted Fruity for the nostalgia - it transported me back to being a child and eating my favorite cereal (fruity pebbles) with milk! It was perfectly sweet (without being too sweet). It had the perfect addition of the smooth, vanilla frosting (which wasn't overpowering) and the crunch of the fruit pebbles, which made every bite incredibly fun! I would 1000% come again in the future to try other recipes.

Google
We randomly found this cute donut shop, and the donuts were sooo good! Both the kids and adults loved them. A sweet surprise we’re glad we found! 🍩

Google
I wanted to like these so bad!!! They are hecka cute and I love a good theme…but in my opinion booze and vibes are what’s really going for this place. The donuts themselves are adorable but lacking in flavor. I feel as though the baker is relying really heavily on the icing and toppings but not the actual dough. I had the strawberry lemonade, whiskey glaze, and I think it was a double chocolate…it was the chocolate topped mini. The donut shop overall is a vibe. Super cute and instagramable.

Google
it was so different than what i had in mind when we just decided to check it out when we passed by, in a great way! really nice vibes, such cute lighting, unique flavors, and i kinda just love everything mini!! 🥰 we got an assortment to try, but the whiskey cream donuts were legitimately mind blowing. i could eat those forever. service was also amazing! they were so willing to explain all of the flavors and options on the menu and help me choose, as well as check the ingredients for a spice i’m allergic to. i can’t wait to go again! <3

Google
The Donut Distillery is delicious! The mimosa flight is so much fun and just go ahead and get all the flavors you won't be disappointed!

Google
What a sweet spot that we found right up the road from our Airbnb. Donuts and booze, perfect pair and the selection was huge!! Can be sickly sweet depending on what you get but we loved it. Read the story of how donut distillery came to be on the wall.

Lane Stevenson

Google
We tried the strawberry lemonade, Boston creme, and creamsicle donuts. They're not horrible, but they can't stand on their own - pricier than donuts from elsewhere that would be far better. They look better than they taste.

Yelp
Delicious and inventive! We all loved it! Just a couple hiccups that the server gave 2 of our tasting plates to a group that came in way after us. We ended up waiting a good 15 minutes for 2 of our tasting plates (donuts and mimosas). We were the only other customers besides the people that got our food. It's also VERY HOT inside! Please turn on the a/c or vent system. It was cooler outside than in. Other than that the donuts and boozy coffee and mimosas were wonderful!!!

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place :( Concept of the place is cool and I see what they're going for. But...... The workers were rude and seemed more interested with what was going on with their phones. We got the tequila flight and honestly wasn't that great. The pairings just didn't make much sense. Biggest let down was the customer service though.
google avatar

Lisa P.

Yelp
The concept of this place is what drew us here. We did go on a Monday so it was empty thus not sure what the vibes of this place are. I would say it could be cleaner and less dingy looking inside. The day we went it was hot out and really hot inside. There was a fan trying to keep this spot cool as the ac wasn't working it seemed. So the concept is definitely cool as I mentioned however we didn't think mimosa pairing was best matches. The cranberry mimosa and strawberry donut we thought was only one with closest pairing that went together. They do have coffee flight and beer flight pairing too.
google avatar

Doug L.

Yelp
Really fun experience. We enjoyed the fancy mini donuts but the coffee drink flight was what made this really memorable! Employees were polite and helpful.
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
My husband picked us up donuts and coffee from here for our group as it was in walking distance of our AirB&B. The donuts were amazing. He got a 25 pack of the mini donuts. Actually I think they are all miniaturize sized here. Donuts to me aren't worth the calories if they aren't great and these were totally worth it. Some of the standout flavors were the Reese's Cup and the bacon one. My coffee was some type of pumpkin spiced drink and was also good. It is definitely on the pricier side but I enjoyed it and would get it again.
google avatar

Kristianne B.

Yelp
What a cute little place to get some mini donuts. Since we came in the morning we got the coffee flight. All of the coffee was very delicious and of course the mini donuts it came it. Wasn't too busy on a Sunday morning. Service was quick.
google avatar

Marisol A.

Yelp
Todd at Donut Distillery was amazing. We came all the way from Cali and this spot was on our list of must visit places while in Nashville and they did not disappoint. Beers and Delicious donuts were the best of both worlds.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is so much fun! The interior has a fun funky vibe with neon signs and a mural perfect for taking pictures. My donut and tequila platter came out super quick and was a really yummy and unique pairing I had never thought of! Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Donut Distillery offers a delightful experience for donut lovers with their beautifully decorated mini donuts. Each donut is a small, perfectly crafted treat with vibrant colors and creative toppings, making them almost too pretty to eat. The texture is light and fluffy, with a slight crispiness on the outside. Standout flavors include the classic Glazed, the savory-sweet Maple Bacon, the rich Cookies and Cream, and the nostalgic Fruity Pebbles. The donuts are well-balanced in sweetness and made with quality ingredients.
google avatar

Christie B.

Yelp
Delicious donuts and worth the drive to some of the best donuts I have ever eaten! Very fresh and delicious!
google avatar

Yelp
We stopped here during our food tour and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and the donuts were amazing.
google avatar

Yelp
You gotta love this place. The donuts are bite-sized and each one is a little cloud of heaven in your mouth! Prices are reasonable; staff is terrific, food and drinks are on point. This is a "gotta-go" place in East Nashville.
google avatar

Tess W.

Yelp
Super cute place with friendly staff and colorful decorations that also help the mini donuts stand out. If interested you can do pairings for whiskey coffee or mimosas with donuts. Super cute place!

Yelp
My family and I were visiting Nashville for the weekend and kept driving by this place, so one day on the way back to our Airbnb I decided to pull on in. When I walked in it was very much giving dive bar, and I wasn't quite sure what to expect. I loved the neon donut sign on the wall and thought it was a cute place to take pictures. I was created immediately and warmly. When I told the employee that it was my first time being there, she gave me a very thorough run down and made some good suggestions. I decided to check out a dozen minis for us to sample. Anyone who knows me, knows that peanut butter is my life's fuel, so of course I made sure to try the Reese's donut along with the whisky glaze, cinnamon sugar, Boston creme, and sweet swine. The donuts were fresh and we all loved them. The next time I'm in East Nashville I would love to swing by again so that I can try the cocktail and donut pairings they have there.
google avatar

Jasmine C.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting. People here were very friendly. I wasn't that impressed with the mini donuts. They didn't taste very fresh to me. I assumed they were going to come out warm considering they go to the back to top each donut based on the flavor you choose. Wasn't warm at all. They do have a grab a duck machine in here that I'm sure all the jeep lovers would appreciate. The day I came they were having their vintage tee sale outside, which was cool to browse around.
google avatar

Katherine P.

Yelp
Came here on a food tour with Secret Food tours as our first stop and what a great way to start our adventures in eating our way through Nashville. It was bite sized pieces of heaven in a shape of a donut. And what a great way to wash it down but with a mimosa!
google avatar

Jaime R.

Yelp
The flight was pretty good. The place is advertised as kid friendly but they had a problem when my toddlers were running in a circle. I get that can be annoying but sugar does that and the people around us had kids and we're not bothered by them. In fact they had kids themselves. The ones with the problem the staff member. I might come again by myself
google avatar

Becky Y.

Yelp
Booze and delicious mini-donuts? Yes please! I got the mini-donut 6 pack - pillowy and delightful. Also a boozy shake with a nice shot of whiskey, whipped cream and topped with a whiskey glazed mini-donut. And they have flights paired with donuts - coffee flights, mimosa flights, whiskey flights - along with shots topped with a mini-donut. Amazing!
google avatar

Victoria R.

Yelp
This place is very hometown feeling! You come in and it's like you've known them you're entire life the conversation with the bartender JoJo was flowing, natural and inspiring. She was Personable, lovely, and atmosphere of this place is top notch, kids, families, adults, friends you must stop by! The pairing could not have been any more SPOT ON! The service was FAST and the adult milkshake was delicious. Thank you for taking your time with us first visitors & making me feel like a human and not just another customer in your shop, JoJo.
google avatar

Dani D.

Yelp
What a fun concept! As someone coming from out of town I'd say this is a good morning activity. I got a whisky flight and it comes with 4 drinks and 4 donuts. They state they pair the whiskey with the donuts but I'm not really sure how? They handed me my flight but didn't tell me what donut pair with what whiskey, which was disappointing. But overall the donuts were great and the environment was fun. Great for kids too as well as parties.
google avatar

Melissa H.

Yelp
I love these mini sweet treats all by themselves but adding booze takes them to a whole new level. Try adding Baileys to any chocolate flavor like the Reese's and Bavarian crème. I love the strawberry lemonade and the fruity pebbles as well. Other fan favs include the whiskey glazed (add a whiskey shot) and the homer with rainbow sprinkles.
google avatar

Sarah T.

Yelp
Donut distillery is a tasty morning breakfast spot. I've been twice and both times donuts have been warm and coffee tasty. The donut and coffee flight is a great way to try quite a few different flavors and they are paired together for an optimal tasting experience. The space is fun and funky with a light up sign and games to play as you eat!
google avatar

HeatherandMark Q.

Yelp
We loved our visit to Donut Distillery! Such a fun concept. The little doughnuts were so cute and yummy, the mimosas were good, and the coffee was great!

Yelp
Came in when there was hardly anyone inside at the time and wanted to try them for the first time! I ordered the 6 count since I was excited to try the flavors. After 30 minutes of waiting, I was getting irritated and wondered about the wait as people before me were also still waiting for their orders. At the 40 minute mark, I noticed that the food tour group that was there after us had gotten their donuts before me. That's where I just drew the line because 40 minutes of waiting and seeing the same people before and after me wait that long as well was upsetting. I was excited to try this place, as I've just moved here. So disappointed that mini donuts would result in a long wait like that and no communication whatsoever from anyone there :( ended up just leaving because I spent so long there that I didn't care about the $8 spent

Karen M.

Yelp
Fantastic donut flight. Treat yourself to this thoughtful pairing of donuts and coffees that complement each other. The people here really care about good customer service. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Erin S.

Yelp
Fun concept, average results. This review is for donuts only. Unfortunately, we didn't try any of the boozie drinks, though they did sound good. We got a 12 pack ($12). We tried all the different donuts, except for the Sweet Swine. We got the Dulce de Leche instead. I truly don't think any of us had a favorite flavor. They were all super average. They all have the same base, just different toppings. Their famous Whiskey Glaze donut was disappointing. The Cinnamon Sugar donut should be super hard to mess up, but it had very little flavor. Again, cool concept, but not worth it. Go somewhere else for good donuts.
google avatar

Mae D.

Yelp
If you love donuts, coffee, or mimosas, this is your spot! And go to the main location in east Nashville (not 5th and broadway). The flights are actually affordable from $20-30! The service was excellent- the staff was super communicative. The only negative, there was no toliet paper in the bathroom and they were out until the next day! A big bummer!
google avatar

Carson A.

Yelp
Delicious and fun pairing of donuts and coffee, mimosas or alcohol. Death by chocolate and whiskey glaze were awesome!
google avatar

Jo W.

Yelp
So many donut options! They've got tables and a bar to sit at inside. I did the pick 6 donuts and they were so incredibly fresh the box was hot when they handed me my donuts! The employee working the register explained all the donut options so well and had good recommendations. They're mini sized donuts so you don't feel guilty eating a few of them! Out of the six I got the s'mores was my favorite!! Highly recommend
google avatar

Mike H.

Yelp
Tried out the donut distillery recently and loved it! It's holiday themed already (late November) and very cute atmosphere! The menu itself has a few flight options including the coffee cocktail and donut flight I got (pictured). Each pairing was very tasty and a nice little treat to start the day. They have plenty of donut and coffee options to go as well. Plenty of parking!

Yelp
Indulge in the exquisite delight of these delectable donuts that are not only irresistibly cute but also boast an unparalleled flavor that is truly to die for! The service at this donut haven surpasses even the most upscale restaurants, with Todd delivering a superb experience. The atmosphere is a perfect blend of coziness, friendliness, and warmth, making it the ultimate destination for sweets, coffee, and even alcohol. On our second day in Nashville, we've encountered the best customer service imaginable. Without a doubt, this is our number one spot in Nashville - a phenomenal haven for donut enthusiasts and beyond.

J C.

Yelp
Delicious we tried all the donuts They were warm a tasty Our server Brianna took the time to explain the menu The menu had extensive variety of drinks cold and hot We drove a hour to get there and it was well worth the drive

Breanna U.

Yelp
Amazing donuts. So many different flavors and options!! The donut milkshake is also quite delicious. Highly highly recommend.

Yelp
Unfortunately I found Donut Distillery to be just average during my stay in Nashville and even though it's a super cool concept, I don't think I'll be recommending here to anyone I know. We came when there was live music and I'm not sure how often they do this but it was LOUD. Like unable to hear the person right next to you loud. When we put in orders, they asked for names so we assumed they would call them out when the food and drink were ready (it was packed too with a lot of people sitting at the bar so there wasn't exactly a place to wait). We later found out they just put our order to the side along with many others and just didn't say anything about it being ready. The donuts and shake were pretty good and the shake was much stronger than any alcoholic shake I've ever had so I liked that, but the experience itself really hindered the tastiness of the food! I think getting things to go is the move, because I didn't really enjoy the stay there.
google avatar

Walter C.

Yelp
Diabetes and disappointment both live here. The doughnuts are average at best. A 7Eleven Boston cream is better than 1/2 the 12 pack we tried. The combination of the doughnuts and the cheap flavored whiskey had my teeth ready to crack and my blood sugar in a full fledged body shock. In addition the windows and interior could use a bit of cleaning. At the end of the day Doughnuts and beer/Whisky simply don't mix in my opinion.

Yelp
First review being a resident in Nashville, TN Atmosphere: When you walk in the first thing you here is music. The music sounds great loud and amazing. The song that was playing was "Dance to this" By Ariana Grande This song was fitting for a Friday afternoon getting Donuts You could smell the donuts and they smelled absolutely amazing. I couldn't wait to order. You got the music playing in the background combined with the amazing smell of donuts is absolutely a no brainer. It's a one two punch just waiting to happen! Customer Service: Ok so after we got hit with the music of the location and the smell of the donuts we were expecting the same for customer service. Now I can't say customer service here was the best, but it wasnt the worse it was in the middle. The employee knew it was our first time there but just stood there waiting for us to order. Nothing was recommended so he had to go by pictures and what we thought we would like. What we ordered: 12 pac mini donuts Four vanilla frosted donuts with fruity pebbles Four Dreamsicle Donuts Four Strawberry Lemonade Total price for 12 was $13.11 after taxes. All in all our experience was great and we will be back to get more. The Donuts were absolutely amazing

April F.

Yelp
Delicious donuts! Little and cute! Neat atmosphere although we stopped there in the morning, it could be a fun place in the evening with a flight.

Meghan C.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way out of Nashville and I'm so glad we did! The service was amazing, everyone was so kind and the food was even better. We didn't get an alcohol but the coffees and donuts were delicious. Would highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Yelp
Cute donut shop with amazing treats and drinks at a great deal! highly recommend as A post meal stop in. Who knew Prosecco and donuts were the perfect pair.

Yelp
Food (5/5 stars): Mini donuts are fantastic because you get to try lots of flavors in one sitting my favorite was the Resse's Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: reasonable * Wait Time: no wait on a Monday morning * Service: very good and friendly * Ambiance: it's a cute donut shop with a Photo Booth, stage, and indoor and outdoor seating
google avatar

Yelp
I've gotten donuts to go a few times but went and had a "dine-in" experience a few weeks ago. Donuts were warm and so tasty! Love they are little so you can splurge and try a few varieties. Friend loved his boozie shake "A Pirate in the Sand". I loved my Tennessee Coffee. Recommend this fun snack!
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
This is one of the places that seems most specifically targeted to the sort of bachelorette party basic Midwestern girl demographic, and even on the middle of a Sunday afternoon, the customers and staff were both up to some mild chicanery. Not my scene, to put it mildly. But I thought the concept of a pair of freshly baked donuts whirled into a milkshake and topped with another donut would be worth it, and I was right. The Reese's was a good choice, though I considered several others, and the one mini-donut on top was immensely fresh and fluffy. Visible flecks of its recently deceased donut relatives permeated my shake, and I took my sweet time with it. While this is not a huge vegan place, they do at least offer some milk alternatives for coffee drinks. You can customize your own donut flavors as well. I suspect if you do drop in seeking sweet indulgence, you'll leave satisfied.
google avatar

Dylan P.

Yelp
Kind of a let down. Really cool place and people seem to be enjoying themselves in there but let's call this what it is. It's a bit of a tourist trap place for people to post instagram pics. The donuts are small and the coffee flights are more desert coffees. Donuts are about the length of your thumb. I really wish they had more coffee flight options to chose from. But the staff was really nice and it's absolutely worth checking out just not what we were expecting. Definitely go! It's a good place to hang out for a bit. Was hard to get a table.
google avatar

Yelp
Something different. Never experienced anything like that. Happy we tried. Service ok. Can't really pick what you want, preset for the samplers.

Douglas J.

Yelp
What a treat! This place knocks the socks off of Blake Shelton's country bar! Nashville is known to be the home to the most unique bars and restaurants in existence but this place takes the cake (or donut if you will)! There were so many choices we didn't know where to begin but the Sommelier sat down and consulted with us to curate the best pairing experience based on our history as an auto mechanic with a robust palate. We were shocked by one of the Sommelier's recommendations, which ended up being our favorite of all the pairings, and that was the Woodford reserve bourbon paired with the circus corndog. We got the last one. My buddy went with the peach schnapps chili dog pairing which wasn't bad. We'd recommend that too. We didn't know this but they do bundle home and auto insurance with your pairings, if you're on the hunt for a better policy. The only problem we ran into was that Nana got lost in corn maze they have near the drive thru behind the establishment. Other than that the corn maze was a lot of fun and definitely a great option for kids. Needless to say, we'll be back!
google avatar

Katie N.

Yelp
Delicious! I like the vibe of this shop versus the one near 8th S. Nash. The donuts were delicious!

Kevin T.

Yelp
We just moved 5 minutes away from this location and finally decided to stop in after driving past it for weeeeks. We waited almost 40 minutes for a 6 pack of mini donuts... Two people ordered before we did and a "food tour" of 10 people that ordered after us.. the food tour received their entire order first... then a couple that order after the food tour.. Then the two people who ordered before we did. Maybe they're short staffed.. maybe not but a bit of communication would have been appreciated. We waited so long that we left without our order. This looks like a great place and wish we could have tried the donuts but definitely not worth the wait.

Yelp
We stopped for a quick treat earlier today when driving past the Donut Distillery. My son had just dozed off in his car seat so I was thankful for the convenient drive thru! I thought it might be closed since the area looks roped off in the parking lot for the outdoor seating, but if you pull around the building you are able to order at the window! I saw that the menu said mini donuts but I wasn't quite prepared for how tiny these guys really are! They're small. Think 2 Bite brownie size small. I got a box of six and would have definitely gotten more if I'd known. They are good! And they were served warm and tasted so fresh. My son really liked the homer d'ohnut and I loved the cinnamon sugar and death by chocolate. Cake donuts are not my favorite kind of donut though, and these were all cake donuts, just fyi. The building looks so cool! I like the murals a lot. I think it's awesome that they have a create your own donut menu too, and we definitely plan on trying that sometime!

Yelp
Wow! What a cool experience! Mini doughnuts AND a bar?!? What a cool concept! We sat at the bar being first timers & not knowing the deal. The bartender was super friendly! He directed us to where you place your order & pay, saving our seats for us. We each had a half dozen of various flavors, all delicious! They offer different flights of drinks with lots of options. Next time I'll go back on an empty stomach! They even have a drive thru!
