Yelp
I recently visited Donut Hut in the early morning.
I had high expectations, as City Pages has ranked this place as one of the "top ten" places in the Twin Cities for donuts.
I ordered a maple glazed raised donut, an old fashioned, and an apple fritter. I think it was a little over $3 for three donuts, so they were a good price in my opinion.
The maple glaze raised donut was delicious. It was thick, airy on the inside, and had the perfect consistency on the outside.
The old fashioned was mediocre at best. The outside had a nice crunch to it, which I appreciate on an old fashioned. I thought it had been a bit over cooked. It really had no flavor whatsoever. That was the most disappointing past.
The apple fritter, once again, seemed to have an issue of being over cooked. The outside was perfectly crispy, but the inside was way too chewy. It also had a burnt taste to it.
Overall, the only good donut was the maple glazed. I can get the same donut around the Twin Cities at other donut shops. The other two staples of a true, good donut shop, fell short of my expectations.
On a positive note, the worker was pleasant, and the store was stocked full of donut choices.
