"Donut Hut keeps it classic with glazed raised, sugared cakes, old fashioneds, Long Johns, Bavarian creams, and apple fritters, all baked fresh every day. Tucked into a Little Canada strip mall, this place has a true mom-and-pop feel, and it’s budget-friendly, a good place to buy a dozen (or two). Get here early, as Donut Hut often sells out on weekend mornings." - Serena Maria Daniels

Best donuts within 300 miles. I drove 25 minutes to arrive just before 8 AM on a Sunday. I got two premium dozen. Premium includes three “fancy” donuts. At a birthday breakfast later on, everyone there remarked over and over at how good these donuts were.

Google
The quality of each donut was outstanding. They were incredibly soft, fluffy, and perfectly sweet, making them an absolute treat. I couldn’t resist trying several different varieties, and I’m so glad I did—each bite was a delightful experience that left me wanting more. I do recommend to call ahead or be there really early they sell out fast.

Google
I've had a lot of donuts in my time and these were without a doubt some of the best. I've never had one with such a fluffy and slightly crispy dough. Highly recommend the chocolate with sprinkles it's the perfect balance of sweet and textured.

Google
As a nationwide connoisseur of donuts and pastries I can say the Donut Hut has the best apple fritters I have ever tasted. The cinnamon roll was very good and the other specialty donuts were good. I would definitely recommend getting there early as they sell out of the best donuts first. Signs say cash only, but they will take credit card. There is usually a line to the door and they do take call ahead orders. Apple fritters 10/10 Cinnamon rolls 9/10 Butterfly, Pinwheel, Twist, and Long John 7/10

Very nice people selling the best donuts I've had in a few years. This dozen was about $18.

Update: the last few times I've placed orders, they haven't had them ready for me at the specified time. Today i had to wait another 20 minutes for some of my order of a dozen to be done (they said it would be 5 minites only to wait). They are really becoming popular and are routinely doing large orders for companies and churches which is making it really hard to depend on them when you need a good donut fix. WOW! After reading the reviews, we were so excited to try Donut Hut. We were not disappointed! Donuts are fresh and taste better than any donut that I have ever eaten. I called ahead at 6am for an order of 3 dozen for a hard working crew of chefs and cooks, and they were ready when I got there at 7am. The woman working there was very nice and really quick so didn't have to wait very long, even though there was a small line.

Talk about a hidden gem. I always drive past this place and, after reading reviews, decided to stop in. I first went on a Thursday a little past noon, and most of their donuts were sold out. But I made it bright and early at 6 am Monday morning! (Come in early for the best selection.) They were fairly busy, and the donuts kept coming in fresh. They are more than affordable, with individual donuts or by the dozen. These donuts are super fluffy. Highly recommend!

Google
You need to stop buying donuts at the grocery store and start exclusively buying donuts from Donut Hut. I just ate the best apple fritter I’ve ever had. Crispy on the outside, dense and perfectly moist on the inside. Every donut we got was perfection, and cheap. Grocery store donuts taste like oiled packing peanuts, come get these instead.

Yelp
These baked items are delish!! I got two cinnamon rolls and only ate one with the maple on it. I honestly enjoyed it a lot. Nice texture, soft and not overly sweet. I'm just not a huge sweet eater but I do get a little sweet tooth every now and then. Service is well...service, nothing too friendly or extravagant but it was a one time treat for me so I'm not too concerned with that. I won't be returning because I don't live here. The place could use a good cleaning and dusting but aside that, it was pretty good.

Genesis M.

Yelp
I don't know what it is about their dough here but it's so good! Anything cinnamon or glazed is delicious. They have some huge cinnamon rolls as well as braided long doughnuts and some in form of a flower that are just so good. You definitely do need to arrive super early early in the morning to be able to see the complete selection. They go by fast and aren't open for that long depending on the day. Service is fast and efficient and they do their best to put out doughnuts as they come out. It's in an easy location to park as well which is super convenient.

Yelp
YUM! Must visit. Stopped in this morning around 7:20am. Lots of donuts available to pick from and hard to just pick a few. It smelt amazing in there. Donuts were coming out fresh frequently during the short visit. My suggestion, do not skip this donut shop. Donuts were fresh, fluffy, crispy on the bottom, and just simply delicious. Ladies behind the counter were nice. They were getting a little busy during our visit. A bit of a line was starting to form as we were leaving, but staff handled it well. It's a cute little Ma and Pop donut shop. Lots of donut boxes. The display case was lit up well. I'll definitely be back for these melt in your mouth donuts. I live about 15/20 minutes from here and the drive is worth it.

Kelly F.

Yelp
Egg croissant was HUGE and so good. Also they have fresh squeezed orange juice. Delicious nuts are amazing as well. Highly Recommend

Ahmad R.

Yelp
Yes. Yes. Yes. This is a great spot for delish. Judging by the line and the "sell out and close early" scenario I encountered here on the weekend, they've clearly been found out by plenty of folks over the years, but I only just found them. New fan.

Destiny J.

Yelp
best cappuccino ever!! it was so cold out had to grab it, warmed me up so fast! and the 2 lady's working today dec 5th @ 5:20 very nice! thank you. Linsey was VERY helpful! and very nice!!

Rachel E.

Yelp
Great staff and amazing donuts! No where better to get donuts in the twin cities. The staff is so friendly and welcoming.

Deborah B.

Yelp
Good donuts! Nice staff! We had a cake donut with sugar and a glazed cruller, both delicious.

Courtney J.

Yelp
Friendly staff and fresh doughnuts all day. We come from WI to get these awesome doughnuts.

Richanda N.

Yelp
Donuts are the best. Service is great. Staff is amazing. I recommend if you are craving freshly made donuts.

Tammy W.

Yelp
Great ma and pa donut shop. Donuts were super fresh, delicious, and inexpensive. Plan on waiting in line but it moves quickly.

Anh P.

Yelp
Lightly crisp donuts from the outside and soft and airy on the inside! Grateful my work place got them for us! Would love to stop in to get more donuts!

Carole C.

Yelp
Pre order or get there as early as possible. It will not disappoint. Our standard order is Chocolate Frosted Fried Cinnamon rolls. My husband loves the Apple Fritter.

Li Mun N.

Yelp
Glazed doughnuts and Boston crème are so light and fluffy--yum! Apple fitter was too overcooked and sweet. I'll be back for raised doughnuts

Nick N.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite donut place ever. They're not the fancy schmancy donuts you can get at some places but I'd choose them anyway over a specialty donut. They're fairly cheap and always fresh. Whenever people are in from out of town we stop here and grab a 6 or 12 pack.

Gary H.

Yelp
My Apple fritter was light on the apple and heavy on the oil. Disappointing. I wanted to like it.

Cassandra M.

Yelp
Used to be the go to place for donuts in the area. New management took over a while ago but quality remained the same. In the last few months they have gotten awful. The young girls working the counter in the mornings are rude and talk about customers while they are still standing at the counter. Donuts are getting done later and later so not all types are ready if you get there too early. Donuts remain good, service is questionable. Just a heads up, they do ask for orders larger than 2 dozen to be ordered ahead of time.

Stephanie G.

Yelp
It was a rough week at work for my team and when we finally made it to Friday I thought I'd bring in doughnut holes. I wanted the old school traditional doughnut holes that I remember from my childhood, which I didn't realize would be so hard to find among the new agey cereal-&-bacon-on-the-donut places. I read about Donut Hut from a yelper's review of a different doughnut shop but because they described it as a "no frills mom and pop shop" I knew this was the one for me. I arrived around 7:15 on a Friday morning and there was a sizeable line out the door. They limit the inside capacity to 2 people ordering at a time so the line moved quickly. I got 3 dozen doughnut holes ($2.50/dozen) and headed out. My coworkers dug into them as soon as I walked in with that white box and they all commented on how fresh and light they were with the perfect amount of icing. Any place with a long line out the door is usually worth it. This is definitely true for Donut Hut.

T C.

Yelp
They have the best donuts in my opinion! This place reminds me of the 60's when the donut wholes were free, and there were bakeries on every corner!

Alysha W.

Yelp
I had donut hut a number of years ago but it had been a while. I was in the area today so I decided to stop in and get some donuts. They are freshly made each day and you can for sure taste it!! I got a glazed twist, a vanilla frosted twist and a raspberry filled sugar coated donut. We loved all of them and for sure will be back. The woman working was so kind. They do have a little sitting area if you want to eat your donuts there. Overall, I would highly recommend this place.

Pat P.

Yelp
Bought my birthday donuts. Arrived at 7:00 am on a Saturday. No line and friendly staff. Cake donuts were very fresh and tasty. Partner ordered an apple fritter and reported it was too sweet. Highly recommend this place for donuts. You won't be disappointed.

Logan S.

Yelp
Every Monday, for some reason, I crave a donut in the morning before work. This is the only actual donut shop anywhere near me. It's upsetting that they are closed on Monday. Monday?! The day people want a donut to start off their day. Why not any other weekday? The donuts are fantastic and well priced, but whenever I really want a donut, they are closed.

Jeff R.

Yelp
A cute and charming spot that feels like it's been a part of the neighborhood forever. I came early morning on a weekday and the doughnuts were so fresh, fluffy, and slightly crisp. They were perfect!

Robert S.

Yelp
Amazing family run donut shop in Minnesota! The selection is very good and everything is made fresh daily. Don't go there too late or they might be closed though! They go by 2pm or until they sell out. Well worth the trip!

Ethan T.

Yelp
I recently visited Donut Hut in the early morning. I had high expectations, as City Pages has ranked this place as one of the "top ten" places in the Twin Cities for donuts. I ordered a maple glazed raised donut, an old fashioned, and an apple fritter. I think it was a little over $3 for three donuts, so they were a good price in my opinion. The maple glaze raised donut was delicious. It was thick, airy on the inside, and had the perfect consistency on the outside. The old fashioned was mediocre at best. The outside had a nice crunch to it, which I appreciate on an old fashioned. I thought it had been a bit over cooked. It really had no flavor whatsoever. That was the most disappointing past. The apple fritter, once again, seemed to have an issue of being over cooked. The outside was perfectly crispy, but the inside was way too chewy. It also had a burnt taste to it. Overall, the only good donut was the maple glazed. I can get the same donut around the Twin Cities at other donut shops. The other two staples of a true, good donut shop, fell short of my expectations. On a positive note, the worker was pleasant, and the store was stocked full of donut choices.

Kelle K.

Yelp
Without a doubt, the best cake donuts I've ever had. (I only got a couple bites because this cutie inhaled them all!)

John Z.

Yelp
A great, old school donut shop. Nothing too fancy, but really good donuts and a very friendly vibe. I give it four stars only because the coffee was pretty bad and served in styrofoam cups. A great find for us in the northeast quadrant of the Twin Cities!

Marie H.

Yelp
I had initially given this place 5 stars because the donuts were so delicious our first time there. However we've been back twice now since our initial visit & the donuts don't even seem the same. They were SUPER greasy to the point you'd push on them and grease would ooze out, and they were sitting in a puddle of grease in the box. They weren't fluffy like before either - in fact they were flat and like a brick. Plus all they tasted like was oil. I'm not sure what is going on. So disappointing.

Mary A.

Yelp
Good experience overall. Waited for about 15-20 minutes but that was pretty understandable given it was a Sunday morning and Mother's Day. Excellent donuts, not my absolute favorite in the Twin Cities, but pretty great nonetheless.

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Best apple fritters in town! Must try glazed donut holes . Fresh donuts made daily, the best time to visit is from 7 to 9 am. It's my favorite place!!!

Nicole B.

Yelp
This place has THE best donuts! One of our local coffee shops (shout out to the wonderful Wild Bean in Mahtomedi!) has them on the weekends, so we decided to go and check them out. The place itself isn't cute really - not somewhere I'd want to sit and hang out at - but the donuts are absolutely 5/5. Great variety and so fresh!

Gabriel P.

Yelp
This place would have to be in the top three best doughnut shops in the metro area. I say top three because they are limited on selection they do the classic doughnuts but the ones they do are nothing short of amazing. The three doughnuts I had out of this box were fresh and had great flavor. I will and plan to be back to get more. I would definitely suggest getting there early this place has people coming and going and you don't want to miss out.

Roxanne S.

Yelp
These are our absolute favorite donuts. Nothing wild or fancy, just classic donuts. Fair prices, hard working staff. If you don't want a donut with bacon or cookie crumbles on it, this is the place for you.

Samuel H.

Yelp
My in-laws brought an assortment of Donut Hut's donuts over to Easter brunch today. We were all blown away. We had a knife and cutting board out so people could try a few different kinds--but I still ate two whole donuts and parts of a couple more (hey, no judging). The bear claw was great, but even better was a cinnamon donut with maple frosting. Just out of this world! The dough itself was perfect in both texture and flavor, and there was just the right amount of very flavorful maple icing, the consistency of which was ideal--not hard or grainy, not runny, just velvety smooth perfection. I'd put these donuts up against anybody's out there. We have a few good bakeries not too far from our neck of the woods, but none have donuts that compare to these. Truly the best donuts I have had in... well... I don't know--years? Ever? It's probably a good thing this place is a good 30-minute drive for me. If I were closer, I'd have a hard time not stopping by on a regular basis. (As it is, I'm thinking about when I might be able to head over that way and try an apple fritter, which is generally my favorite, but which we didn't get today.) To sum up, if you like donuts at all, you will LOVE LOVE LOVE Donut Hut.

John L.

Yelp
This may be the best donuts in the Twin Cities. Have been here a number of times now and the donuts are consistently super fresh and melt in your mouth. Raised glazed and Sugar Raised glazed are perfect.

Amy M.

Yelp
This is the best donut place in the area. Fresh baked, every day, daily specials, delicious donuts! And cheap prices!

Greg F.

Yelp
Consistently excellent doughnuts. The best apple fritters in the Cities. Raised doughnuts are the right amount of pillowy and the cake doughnuts aren't dry.

Tim D.

Yelp
Donut Hut makes donuts just like you remember them. You won't find fancy, newfangled, artisan flavors like key lime and bacon with maple or things like that. What you get here is straight-up, old school donuts like the bear claw, glazed pinwheels, mouthwatering apple fritters, sugared bismarks, and the like. They are open every day, and the donuts are fresh. Stop in when they open, and they're real fresh. When I stopped in, there were a lot of old-timers who were there having their coffee and donut, sitting by the tables along the windows. Each day, this bakery does offer some specials. This place has been around since the 1980s. I'm just sad to have only just learned of it recently. If you're a fan of old-fashioned, raised, glazed donuts, the Donut Hut is your place. It's located in a strip mall just off 35E.

Barclay W.

Yelp
I believe strongly in the power of a good doughnut to make someone's morning. Donut hut provides a great start to your day. Their selection is big and has things I have never seen before. They all taste delicious too! I don't understand people's obsessions with other places for their doughnut needs when you have a place like this. I've ordered a dozen+ doughnuts from them a couple of times. It was really easy to call in and leave a message telling them what I wanted. They also do a great job mixing up what you get. I ordered their "fancy" mix both times, and they do a good job throwing in those big ticket doughnuts. Want to be the hit at your next work? Be the doughnut person and bring doughnuts from here. 48/100

Jackee F.

Yelp
OMG I miss y'all I use to come every week and my dozen of doughnuts when I live St.Pauland now it been 8yrs ... I just asked my sista was the HUT still open and she said yes and I said hell it's time for a visit so I'll see y'all soon spring is on the way love you guys imma need two dozen please when I arrive I'm Ms. Jackee'... Yesssss

Arah B.

Yelp
Delicious classic doughnuts! I got a maple bar and an apple fritter and both were perfectly cooked. The maple glaze needed a little more maple flavor, though. I also got a cappuccino, which was made in one of those machines like at a connvenience store, so: too sugary and so couldn't finish it. I'll definitely be back for the doughnuts, but will stick with brewed coffee, next time.

Ellie F.

Yelp
My fave donut place :) highly recommend checking it out! Make sure to get there early they sell out sometimes

Alyssa D.

Yelp
The is hands down the best spot for donuts in the twin cities. For years I would get the cake donuts or old fashioned glazed, but recently I've had an apple fritter and they are exceptional. Like I've actually gone back the next day to have another one, and I'm not an apple fritter fan typically. Prices shock me every time they ring me up because they are so low - especially compared to all the new fancy donut shops popping up around town.

Mitch K.

Yelp
Best donuts in then Cities! The best apple fritters I've ever had!!! Go early before they run out!

Nikki M.

Yelp
6 stars! Best donuts I've probably ever had! Hand made every day, and CHEAP! Dozen of specialty donuts/fritters/cinnamon rolls for $11!

Emm C.

Yelp
Donuts and pastries have been one of my passions all throughout my life. I have been going to Donut Hut for around 15 years now. I have eaten some of the top donut shops around the US (a lot in CA). Through all those years I have taken Donut Hut for granted, as they were the closest to me for ten of those years. Now that we have kids, we have eaten at all the top spots in the twin cities. Donut Hut is the best shop in MN, hands down. Sure, some days the fritters are dark, but overall, this place is consistent and has a better flavor than any shop in the Twin Cities. You won't find any fancy donuts or french pastries (Marc Heu), but for the common donut, there is no equal.

Brian H.

Yelp
I must admit, I had forgotten about Donut Hut for a bit. It's been a while since I've been there, but I was at a local non-profit that serves the homeless and transitioning and they had donuts from Donut Hut! I asked about them and was told Donut Hut donates donuts every week to the non-profit to serve their guests. Way to go Donut Hut! Thanks for being a great local business. It's been a while since I've been to the actual location, but it is a no-frills kind of place. They make good donuts, you buy them to take with you, eat one on the way out to the car, and one more on the way to where ever you are going, then one more once you get there and are sharing with your friends/family/coworkers/random guy you bought a donut so that you could have 3 for yourself and not feel bad.

Andy T.

Yelp
Donut Hut donuts are very good. My family eats them every Sunday, and has for 15 years. "Why haven't you reviewed them in all that time?", you might ask. Well, okay, I'm not proud that I feed my wife and kids donuts. But these are made fresh every day, they have a bright, airy texture, great flavor, and they beat any mass-market or grocery-store donut. So for an after-church treat, you can't do better than Donut Hut. All that being said, a couple of months ago, Donut Hut changed the type of frying oil they use to make their donuts, and it added some burnt-oil flavor to what used to be neutral-tasting dough. You can actually smell the change when you walk in the door. Donut Hut donuts are still better than the rest, but they aren't as good as they were.

Grace H.

Yelp
Stopped here on my way home after a night shift. The donuts were very tasty, rich, soft and fluffy. There was also a great selection, the donuts were good to look at as well as being tasty. I recommend this place, well worth the stop.
