Donut King

Local donut shop with an old diner-ish vibe (cash only). First time passing through Quincy Center, so I stopped by to try some local donuts. It’s cash only, but prices were reasonable. About $11 for a half-dozen regular donuts. Their “special” donuts sat up front in the glass case with fun toppings, but one of the employees mentioned they’re basically the same chocolate or vanilla frosted donuts dressed up with extras. At $3.50 each, not terrible, but both the pumpkin one and the cookie monster one were just okay. From their classics, we grabbed the old-fashioned and the Boston cream. Better than Dunkin’, obviously, but not my favorite versions around Boston. Feels more like a spot I’d stop by on my way to work than a place I’d drive out of my way for.

Donut King in Quincy, MA, is an absolute gem! I recently visited the day after National Donut Day and was thrilled to snag one of the last Boston Crème donuts before they sold out. It was hands down the best I’ve ever had. The donut was perfectly soft and fresh, with just the right amount of sweetness. The creamy filling was generous and delicious, and the chocolate glaze on top was rich and indulgent. The staff was incredibly friendly and efficient, making the experience even more enjoyable. If you’re in the area and have a sweet tooth, Donut King is a must-visit. Highly recommend!

Some of the best donuts you’ll ever eat. Staff is funny and helpful when you are ordering. A super serious dude made my breakfast sandwich - everything was delicious.

Best donuts in south shore, and really good service. They only take cash so bring the green! You will likely leave with more than you planned as there are so many good donuts and creations. Go early for best selection!

Made a quick stop here on vacation and was surprised how good it was. We ordered a few donuts and coffee. We came around lunch and they were already sold out of half their flavors (which is perfectly understandable for that time of day) but they still had a decent selection and everything we got tasted great. The iced coffee was surprisingly well made. Prices were average (see photos) and there was room to dine in if you wanted to.

It was also surprisingly lively with locals despite the early hour, so I can see why the doughnuts sell out. There were some cutely decorated special doughnuts for Easter, but I stuck to my mission of trying the famous, classic honey dip doughnut. The price ($2.25) was the same as that of the marble cruller that I got last time even though there is less doughnut, so I wish it were cheaper for the size. However, it was airy/fluffy and soft with a delicious glaze. The only thing I did not like was that I could slightly taste old oil with some bites. I think I prefer the slight crunchiness of the marble cruller last time more, but maybe the crunchiness is only unique to cake doughnuts. MAR. 5, 2024 Stopped by toward closing even though I would have preferred my first time to be in the morning when the doughnuts would be the freshest. As expected, the majority of the doughnuts were gone by this time. I decided on the marble cruller, which was $2.25, despite the lower price listed on the menu (however, this is still cheaper than doughnuts at "fancier" places, so it's okay). The person working there was friendly. I heated up the doughnut before eating, and it tasted very good. I believe this is a cake doughnut, so the inside was denser. I loved that there was a slight crunchiness. The glaze on the outside was definitely sweet, but the inside was not, so it was a satisfying but not overwhelming dessert. I'll definitely have to swing by at opening to try the doughnuts fresh sometime (I actually love that they open at 4:30 AM because it is so rare to find a place that opens that early. The fact that they close much later than other bakeries/cafes despite being open so early is also pretty amazing).

Bring cash since they do not accept credit cards at all. There is a ATM in the store to dispense cash but it’s one of those private ones that charges a fee. I was really wanting to love this place . I visited this morning and purchased a coffee & a few donuts. Every donut is just enormous and sickening sweet and they all seem to taste the same even though each one is a different flavor. The glaze on the donuts is just too thick and not appetizing. I ended up throwing them away after 2 bites of each since I just couldn’t eat anymore. The employees seem nice enough The coffee was very bland nothing I’d come back for. I definitely won’t be back again

I have k own the owner since I was a child my kids pics are hanging in the store they are the best donut and coffee shop in quincy we need to support more mom and pop shops like this it truly is a quincy landmark

Had a craving for donuts, which I assure you doesn't happen all that often. I didn't feel like going all the way to Kane's, nor did I feel like having the factory-produced sugar/oil rings of Dunks. Sorry not sorry. Yelp took me to Donut King. For donuts got a Honey Dip and Bavarian Cream (for Boston Cream (Kream?) was all sold out that morning. Also ordered a Coffee with cream and sugar (oops on the sugar). The Honey Dip donut isn't quite as deletible as Kanes, but still very good. it tasted fresh, and was light and airy as far as donuts go. This is a donut I would absolutely return for should the aforementioned cravings repeat themselves. However, if I am to offer criticism: I found it a little oversweet, and the hole in the center was substantial enough that whoever got the donut-hole/munchkin would be a very happy camper. Then there was the Bavarian Cream... this one was a miss on a couple fronts. First, the donut had that day-old taste you find at Dunkin. Second, it took be almost to the center of the donut to get to the actual cream inside. Third, it seemed to have spent too long in the fryer, for it had a crust sturdier than any donut I'd ever had prior. The coffee was nothing remarkable, but understandable considering they specialize in donuts, not coffee.

Every time I think I have a handful of favorite donut shops, I run out of hands whenever I try a place like this. I'm a sucker for a classic donut shop. And don't get me wrong--not all classic donut shops get it right. But Donut King does. The way to my donut-clogged heart is simple: 1) inexpensive 2) classic styles (old-fashioned, basic filled yeast donuts like jelly & Boston cream, a multitude of old-school favorites) 3) HUGE 4) slightly crispy outside, dense yet airy inside (speaking for the old-fashioned styles like the cruller) 5) fresh (not being able to taste old oil from the fryer) Donut King hits all 5 of those qualifications. So, I suppose they will remain king.

So good. If you like donuts and you get them at DD, go here and you will never get one from them again. I made the mistake of buying 2! Haha

Some people look forward to the weekend so they can sleep in. As for me, I'm out of the house no later than 6am. Simply because the coffee rolls at Donut King are normally gone by 7am. And there is very good reason for that.

It's all about the donuts. While the world knows Dunkin it's hard to compare them to the real thing at Donut King. Works of art not not mass market manufactured . Did yourself a favor and try donuts as they really should be it's worth the trip

I came here Saturday afternoon and luckily they still had a few donuts left! I was able to snatch up a Bavarian cream, powdered, and a chocolate chip donut. The only other donuts that were left were coconut. This place definitely has that old-school vibe and they are cash only. The donuts are a good size, not too small or too big, making it a satisfying eat. I'm usually not a fan of cake donuts, but somehow the donut king here has done it well! It's not too dry or crumbly and packs in plenty of flavors. The chocolate chip muffin was a step up from your supermarket muffins. Lots of chocolate chips and sugar on top making it sweet, but not too sugary. They open at 4:30 AM, so hopefully one day I'll be back a little bit earlier to try their other donut flavors.

Looking for doughnuts and happened to have a kid who really needed to use the restroom. They wouldn't allow us, as potential paying customers. Took my business elsewhere. Imagine that, a restaurant without a bathroom!

Nothing but the best service, great donuts, good coffee, and doors open at 4:30 am. What else can you ask for? If you are new to the area or from out of town, this is the best!

THE BEST DONUTS I'VE EVER ENJOYED!!!! A friend of mine brought in a dozen donuts, that wouldn't fit in the dozen box!! The remaining donuts were put in a bag. I really like the glazed lemon cruller, but they also have the powered sugar option too. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Get there early to get the best selection! Parking can tight but definitely worth it. Cash only ....but there's a cash machine on premises.

Pros: -Parking lot Cons: -Lines/busy! Seemed like they were out of Boston Cream donuts around 7-8am on a Saturday (luckily they had more in the back--be sure to ask!) -- Boston Cream Not bad. The chocolate was a bit cool/hard which adds some nice texture. The custard had a tang of what almost tasted like cream cheese(?), which I couldn't decide if I liked.

I absolutely love this place. Yummy banana hazelnut coffee. The donuts are to die for. That are huge and very affordable. I always get honey dip, boston cream, and Bavarian cream. Their breakfast sandwich are so simple but so fresh and hot. I love it. I usually get sausage egg and cheese on English muffin. Keep in mind they are cash only!! You have to go before 10am if you want any donuts at all. Good luck!! Will post donuts later!

Donut King definitely lived up to its name! We were there on a late Saturday morning and they still had a really nice selection of doughnuts. I tried the honey glaze apple doughnut and it was delicious. The honey glaze was perfect and there was just the right amount of apple inside - enough to be gooey but not overfilled so it wasn't messy. Best filled doughnut I've had in a long time for sure! We also tried the nitro cold brew (so strong and good) and the iced snicker doodle which was made perfectly with the right amount of cream. All together it was delicious and more than affordable. Definitely will stop in again!

Disappointing donuts and pastries, kind of dry not much flavor. Drove across town hoping for something better than DD , but DD would have been better.

I don't always eat donuts, but when I do... Okay, that joke's so 2007 (or 2008 or something)! As my aunt once said, "you can't make donuts without trans fat." I'm not positive that they still do, but Donut King provide larger, cheaper, and tastier donuts than DD by a mile. This local hole-in-the-wall dominated by townies is worth a trip if you're a fan of donuts. I like the honey dip and old fashioned donuts the most here. Yeah, they're simple but DK is better when they make the basics. The honey dip isn't too sweet and the donut's light texture is excellent. The old fashioned is full of sweet flavor with a nice spicy undertone. Opposite of the honey dip, the old fashioned is cake-y and more dense. The filled donuts (raspberry, lemon, bavarian) are okay but not my favorite. The problem is that, while they're gigantic, they can somewhat lack in flavor. You sometimes end up eating a lot of doughy nothing before you get into the filling. The muffins are underwhelming in the face of the titular baked goods. They're okay, but when you compared them to donuts, they're easily overshadowed.

I wanted to like this place. I really did. But the subpar quality of the doughnuts, terrible coffee, and barely-there customer service urges me to seek greener, doughnut-filled pastures. After having tried a little of everything they have, I can say that unless your standards are a supermarket bakery or the plexiglass pastry cabinet at a gas station, you won't be impressed here. Their old-fashioned is an enormous, bland monster. It also serves as the base for many of their other doughnuts. It's terrible. The two times I've gotten their "famous" honey dips were disappointing; both times I've taken a bite only for my teeth to sink into a cold spot of grease, the dough not quite cooked all the way through. The employees' attitudes are not unfriendly, with the sole exception being a woman named Scottie; she's rude, walks away from waiting customers, and has a tendency to make it apparent that she's muttering things under her breath. I'm not asking you to bend over backwards and kiss my ass just because I spend $5 at your place, but being greeted and having my order taken promptly --whether I'm a regular or not--should be service 101.

I'd advise staying away from this place until the pandemic ends if you are at all concerned about Covid 19 or social distancing. While the employees wear masks, the other customers...not so much, and they're not really set up for social distancing, even for something as simple as waiting in line. Waiting on multiple people at once causes crowding and makes it impossible to keep even a small amount of distance when you're completing your order. The donuts were okay, but nothing to write home about.

Man o man, sakes alive! Best doughnut shop in Quincy... and maybe even the Commonwealth!! Not LEO friendly. Old school, no nonsense doughnut and coffee shop that has been around for a thousand years. My buddy who grew up in Quincy in the 60s and 70s and I stopped there a few weeks ago, and while the demographics and worker bees have change the quality of the product certainly has not. Best jelly doughnut imaginable. Glazed plain and chocolate just the right size and moisture. Good and consistent coffee, and the prices are just right. Often habituated by locals, retirees, unions fellas and jakes/cops... you can't go wrong. Pricey, but yolo.

Really love the donuts here!! I'd suggest waking up early to grab them. The donuts are usually the first to go since they're so delicious! Their breakfast sandwiches are pretty good too. It's still cash only, but totally worth it. They also sell iced/hot coffee here.

So there are many times I could have come on here and given a 5 star review. They have the best donuts in Quincy. But I'll be honest, I never did come on to give them that review. That said 3 times in the last two weeks I have had issues. Two weeks ago my Asiago bagel that my sandwich was on was way undercooked with raw dough in middle of the top half. Then again today same exact thing. Had to throw it away when I got to office building cause it was that raw and doughy. I said to myself that I just wouldn't get that kind of bagel again b/c it is odd shaped and they must not be cooking right. I also got a coffee roll/honey bun. This i had at my desk so luckily I got to take a pic. Again, raw. Just really unacceptable. And disappointing. If it's happened to me it definitely happened to others given it's been three times in 2 weeks. For these reasons I want to give 1 star but never left them the 5 star they have deserved in the past so averaged it out in the middle.

Personally, they were not my favorite donuts. The cake donuts were giant with a crunchier exterior, the inside wasn't too dry but they hardly had any flavor and ended up upsetting my stomach. Maybe I just need to try different flavors!

Love it. Awesome donuts...not that pocket of air you get at chain locations. They are big, thick, dense, and delicious. Coffee is fantastic too. I hate that it's cash only. I would buy so many more for customers if I could use my expense card.

This is unfortunate but I have to knock off three stars and give this place a bad review NOT BECAUSE of the donuts but because of the arrogant customers who frequent here. I believe any place who has customers should have 1. Great food. 2. Pricing 3. Cleanliness 4. Safe and welcoming environment. 5. Care about their customers. I dinged them for the last two which are very important as this incident happened when I was writing my review in my car, in their half empty parking lot at around 10:30 in the morning. Read on... I was writing the review as this was my first day to try out donut king donuts. I got the honey glazed donut. It was fantastic for $1.34 I spent. I enjoyed it while in my car and pulled out my phone and started writing this review put of joy. So what the fu** can go wrong....? Read on... Massachusetts, I truly believed was not going to succumb to the stupidity of kicking out customers from PARKING LOTS due to the colour of their skin or that the fact that this happened is sort of funny at the same time outrageous and the owners should know about WHAT truly happened because hates gonna hate and liars are gonna lie. There was an old man with his SUV Parked right next to me. My car was on as the heater was on. He started to pull his car out. I looked up at him and he glanced at me and started swearing. It seemed to me that he thought I was pulling out and thats why I looked and seemed very pissed. I pulled my window down and waved my hand to let him know he is good and he can pull out. To which he shows me a finger. I yelled at him - 'Sir you can go'. To which he swears on the colour of my skin and says - Get the fuck out of my country. (Ironically the woman who served my the donut was dark skinned and def. an immigrant). Thanks for ruining my Donut Joy Old man. To end this - I honked at him at least five times to show him I am not going down to his level but I guess I had raise my voice and tell him - He can Mind his own personal appearance and keep his fu**ing thoughts to himself. The owners probably know about these fu**s and if they read this then they should do something. Maybe hire some more coloured Americans. He seemed like a frequent customer who truly in 2018 chooses to live misinformed and then again swears at anyone because he can't seem to able to pull out of a parking lot and IMO he should not be driving. Sigh!

I did not realize what a donut was until I came here! The best donuts and breakfast pastries along with great prices. I will say some of the staff is not friendly but that is not a deal breaker. If they asked you how many in an aggressive tone, its because they want to use the right bag/box!!! A lot of people don't understand and they don't explain it. Overall a must visit. PS If you want an amazing donut cake for a birthday go to the Weymouth location!

I went with 2 stars for Donut King in my opinion it used to be better back in the day. The orange juice I got was in a small plastic bottle and I did not know the name brand it was a local name and my bf said to me oh that orange juice we had in school. Very off tasting orange juice we also had a donut it was dry and hard tasting. I have never had their coffee though the breakfast sandwiches that we had were so-so everything was cooked alright but nothing to write home about. I guess it is better then other places but might not order from here again idk it was alright.

We were treated really rudely. We asked if we cab have an order of munchkins/donut holes (because the other location has it). The woman that was helping made it a point to rip is apart by saying "we're not Dunkin donuts we don't carry those". We kindly said that oh we didn't know since they have it at the other location. She then goes " no they don't and never have".... We won't be coming back. There was no reason for her response it was rude and inappropriate.

Donut King donuts are a gift from God!!!! The honey dipped ANYTHING will make you cry they're so good!!! The women that work there are the angels who greet you with a smile & a pleasant attitude that is the perfect beginning to your day or ending of a night shift!!! I'm sure knowing they are serving the BEST DONUTS & PASTRIES in the world helps make them so pleasant!!!

Their cake donuts are run of the mill, in line with Demet's etc. I thought their yeast donuts were better. Light and fluffy. Would return but won't go out of the way.

Visited Donut King on our way to Blue Hills Reservation. Unfortunately they were out of most donuts but the two we tried were pretty amazing-Bavarian cream and coconut. The donuts were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and overall delicious. They were a little bready for my taste but my partner really liked them. The black and white cookie was not good. I'll definitely be back to try more donuts!

I work in South Boston, live in Somerville, and have somehow convinced myself that this place is totally on my way to and from work. Despite the fact that it's a 15 mile round trip through the most hellacious traffic I-93 has ever seen. Their butternut donuts are beautiful. As in awe-inspiring. Before I met their chocolate butternut, I had a deep-seated prejudice against plus-size donuts, primarily because it meant the delicious-fried-bit-to-dry-ass-cake ratio was totally out of whack. But they glaze and butter their nuts so hard that they could be twice the surface area and still be sweet enough to melt straight through my fillings and right into my (admittedly sparse) chest hair. They're the second best butternuts ever (Supreme Coffee and Donuts in Brockton nails the glaze just as hard, but is way better at straight-up frying the pants off of donuts), and there's no real reason to try anything else. The honey dip's lovely, but the raised donuts I've tried have more of a flaky brioche consistency (like Kane's raspberry coconut, for example) than a soft, this-is-what-JFK-was-talking-about-when-he-said-Ich-bin-ein-Berliner, raised donut texture (think Kane's creme brulee, or the exact opposite of anything Dunks has ever sold.)

Decent doughnuts, large in size, Eat too many, they'll go to your thighs. Classic styles and classic toppings, If you're driving by it's sure worth stopping. This place has larger-than-average doughnuts. They were very doughy; I like my doughnuts with a bit of an exterior crisp. There were no crazy flavors or toppings. All classic doughnuts that you would find in an old time bakery such as Boston Cream, Glazed, Frosted, etc. It was nostalgic. The place was mobbed but the staff still kept their cool and were very pleasant. Coffee wasn't great. Also got a ham, egg, & cheese for the lady and she said it seemed just thrown together without enough egg and ham to fill the bagel. All in all, the doughnuts weren't extraordinary, but I'd put this place a step ahead of Dunkin. When I eat a good doughnut I tend to sing with joy, and there were no melodies coming from my mouth after sampling my 3 doughnuts here.

If you're looking for a REAL donut (not dunkin donuts) this is the place to go. I love their chocolate frosted but have also enjoyed the butternut, chocolate glazed, jelly, Boston creme and a few others. I highly recommend getting here as early as possible on a weekend morning because most specialty flavors sell out by 9am. I have never tried their coffee but they offer a variety of flavors. The parking lot is small but there is also some street parking. Most people get their donuts to go but there are some bar seats and a few tables inside. Enjoy!!

The BEST! Really though... Does it get any better than this? Pros: - BEST donuts this side of the Mississippi; cooked fresh everyday... Usually a couple times a day?! I have gone in later in the day and they are still bringing out more donuts from out back - Donuts are huge - Great prices - Friendly staff - Absolutely delicious... Meh, I've been in a handful of times and have just had a so-so experience each time. The coffee was ok, the baked goods were ok. Nothing mind blowing, I prefer Dunkin overall, especially since the Dunks down near Quincy Adams has pretty great customer service usually. The staff here are not very friendly. I got the feeling that they have to know you to be nice to you, which is pretty off putting when you're not a regular. Guess they have enough regulars that they don't need to win over new people. They have a tiny parking lot, which means most people park on the street/sidewalk or across the street at Copeland. It can make driving around here in the morning annoying.
