"Cambridge recently saw the opening of a new location of Malden classic Donut Villa Diner, which, while not a vegan restaurant, does offer one of the largest vegan menus around (including plenty of doughnuts)." - Rachel Leah Blumenthal

"Donut Villa Diner is a full-service breakfast-and-lunch joint, but “donut” is in the name for a reason. This doughnut-filled diner — which expanded to Cambridge in June 2021 — offers a variety of flavors (including some gluten-free and vegan options). While the classic honey dip is Donut Villa’s bestseller, doughnut enthusiasts should be sure to try the powdered doughnut stuffed with lemon cream or the Nutella-filled doughnut with chocolate glaze and hazelnuts. Donut Villa also serves dishes made with doughnuts, such as a cheeseburger with a doughnut instead of a bun and a doughnut Benedict." - Terrence Doyle

Yelp
A very nice diner perfect for breakfast or lunch. I came here visiting from Connecticut for a weekend. I ordered an omlette and my wife got a turkey club. We both enjoyed our food. The booths were nice and spacious. Bar seating was available like most diners. The diner also made their own donuts, which were excelltent. Staff was friendly The only thing that I noticed were that the menus could use replacement. They are faded in some areas. This is such a minor point that it doesn't warrant a loss of any points. If you are in the Malden area, check out Donut Villa Diner. It's worth it.

Yelp
Great catering options for breakfast items. They also offer delivery which is always a plus. I've never personally been to any of their locations, only have ordered for work events. I do plan on stopping by soon with my family for breakfast. I'd love to try their omelettes and french toast :P So far I have tried their pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, donuts(amazing), and bagels and can say it was all delicious every time we ordered from them. They also ask if you need utensils, ketchup, syrup, etc.

Yelp
New menu this week Prices little increase as expected in this economy New menu has new meals added in For breakfast and lunch too! Still worth going to Never a bad meal or donut Go early for best choices on donuts

Yelp
Have been going to Donut Villa for years & years, this past weekend we were craving breakfast and didnt want to get out of bed (The kids have the flu) and I just didnt want to cook - but being that breakfast is one of those things that cold it doesnt re-heat well, Eggs actually... But to our surprise everything showed up still warm, Eggs still runny as certain people love... Waffles, Pancakes - Everything was packaged all neatly in separate containers with sides & sauces and everything all neatly wrapped up. Food was great, just as delicious as in person which scares me because now I feel like this will be an every weekend event. Love their homefries - might be my fave from many places. You wont be disappointed, my only one take away - Benny delivery could have used more Hollandaise, so if thats your order - pay for the extra side!

Yelp
This super cute family owned diner is located in a plaza so there is parking which is a huge plus. The women who used to own it is now the mother of the owner and she was absolutely amazing. We got to hear her backstory and it was awesome. The donuts were fantastic. I enjoyed the Florentine Benedict. I got the donut bacon egg and cheese and the donut was not sweet and more resembled bread. I understand what they were going for but I defiantly would have enjoyed it more if it was sweet. All in all, a great spot for classic diner food and good donuts.

Yelp
Our office orders breakfast for 10-12 people. We have been going here for 2 years and have never had a complaints. The food is amazing. I personally have ordered omelets, steak tips, the hangover sandwich, (my favorite) donuts, all are delicious and the staff is very friendly. 10/10!

Yelp
I'm bummed to have to update my previous 5-star review, but I've had more disappointing experiences than good here now. This place gets super busy, and the system they have for getting a table is downright awful. You literally have to stand in line until a table is ready. This line can be so long that it extends out both sets of doors, almost blocking the entrance/exit, which has to be a fire hazard. Then, the servers get annoyed because you are in their way while they're trying to tend to the tables outside. It's astounding to me that they haven't adopted a better way to accommodate customers waiting for a table. I was excited to take family here while they were visiting from out of state, and we had to completely abandon our plans to eat here because of the way we were treated just while waiting for a table. And I honestly just don't think I'll try again, or even recommend this place as long as they keep it this way. Super disappointing.

Yelp
This place is somewhere between OK to meh. Interesting local chain with concept of upscaling diner food with a few gimmicks. It did the trick of bringing me in once and probably only once. The place is inclusive with a ton of vegan options, so you can bring that self-righteous friend of yours with you. Skipping straight to the food. We ordered specialty items the donut burger, the grilled cinnamon roll, and the Boston creme pancakes. The donut burger was a big disappointment at $17. The patty was clearly one of pre-frozen burgers you can get at Costco for $8 a pack. Why go through the charade of how I would like it? It's always going to be well done. The donut bun was super dry, and the toppings didn't do much to enhance the burger. If the burger was $8 or $9 dollars, still not great but I stomach it a little easier. Just make sure you have enough water, so you don't choke on it. Did I mention it was dry? The grilled cinnamon bun had nice flavor but was super dry. The Boston crème pancake was the highlight and was super moist. It tasted like the Boston crème donuts of my Dunkin Donuts youth. It's a strange nostalgia twist because it's not like I can't get this in donut form down the street for a $1. I think the concept of this place is cooler than living it. I think certain people that want a Guy Fieri like atmosphere will like it, but if you want better executed food you'll need to go elsewhere. For me, it's not worth going back.

Yelp
I've been here before and enjoyed a breakfast sandwich. Came back today and my partner and I both ordered the breakfast burrito, and we were both really disappointed. It lacked flavor. The beans were truly flavorless. It just was hard to get through more than a few bites. Ended up throwing it away and needing to find another place to eat. Maybe it's a better place if you're looking for classic breakfast but the burrito just isn't good at all.

Yelp
I saw Donut Villa Diner on a Chronicle special and had to try it! They offer healthy options, and there is plenty to splurge on here too (amazing donuts)! The staff is super friendly. Not a surprise that this place is so popular!

Kaire H.

Yelp
Cozy and comfortable. A great menu and jubilant hostesses. Very reasonable price for creative and yummy food

Carlos G.

Yelp
We've been to Donut Villa many times and you really can't go wrong. This time around we ordered the corned beef hash and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant, both of which were great. It's hard to truly mess up breakfast food, right? Like, it's eggs and bacon and stuff that already tastes good to begin with. But, that said, it's also hard to do breakfast food extraordinary well. This place does breakfast food extraordinarily well.

Yelp
This place is a total gem! It'll give you serious diner vibes. My sister was visiting from California, and we came here for brunch on a Sunday, and this place was poppin'. Our goal was to go somewhere good but with parking, and this hit the target. We showed up around noon, and there was a little bit of a wait because the place was fully packed. The wait wasn't terrible, so we decided to stay, and then we ended up sitting at the counter when two spots cleared up. Our waitress, Dawn, was everything! She was a hoot throughout our entire experience. This place was busy, and she and the other waitresses handled it well. They turned over tables so quickly to keep up with the demand of customers waiting at the front, and yet nobody felt rushed to eat and leave. My sister and I ordered an assortment of food. We got the Blueberry Lemon Donut, the Monte Cristo Sandwich, the Peanut Butter Banana Pancakes, and the Loaded Chili Cheese Fries. (You know, just a light breakfast.) Everything tasted good. I mean, nothing really blew us away, but it was solid diner fare, and I'd eat here again. I definitely want to give their donuts another try because the one we ordered was tasty but slightly too "bready" for my liking, so I'm interested in seeing if they're all that way, or if it was just the specialty one we ordered that morning. Overall, it was a great "no-frills" diner experience with friendly and efficient staff. I'll definitely be back.

Carra F.

Yelp
Chicken and waffles were good, but wish the chicken was more of a traditional souther fried style.

Adam F.

Yelp
Wicked good diner! Great food, fast and very friendly service, and the prices are very reasonable. Also have the best donuts around. Don't even contemplate it khed, just go!

Sandy D.

Yelp
Ah, diners are always my weakness. From the atmosphere to the simple yet hearty breakfast foods, this is my type of place! We ordered The Hungry Man and the Norwegian Benny. Check-in on Yelp for a free coffee, although they're not aware of it! The Hungry Man ($11.99) was an amazing deal, being that it comes with both orange juice and coffee! A hearty meal for a hungry man for sure, and my boyfriend sure was hungry! I have been craving smoked salmon for a while now and Norwegian Benny ($13.99) did me no wrong, for the most part! The eggs benedict was aesthetically runny and balanced with the salmon well. But no matter how much I love home fries, they were on the hard side and way too salty the more you eat of them! And with the salty salmon along with that? That was more than enough sodium intake for the day! Nonetheless, the food came quickly, the staff were respectful and nice, and the place offered me an accurate and comfy diner experience. Note there is a "Back of House Relief" charge on top of your bill.

Alexandra M.

Yelp
We came for an early Sunday brunch, sat at the counter, and ordered the greek wrap and the donut benedict. Both were great; with the wrap having tons of olives in it, and the donut benedict having both sweet and savory (I've had donuts turned into other things before and it often goes too far one way).  My partner had their coffee offered to be filled up more times than I can count We took some donuts to go and enjoyed them as well! The Samoa has chocolate on the bottom, which was unexpected, and the coconut on top was nice, but something felt lacking. The oreo one was perfect though.

Nicole S.

Yelp
Cozy, nice and great selection of vegan options. I tried the vegan doughnuts, the vegan egg sandwich, and shared them with my friends. We all liked it and it wasn't insane prices like some places in NY or CT. Will definitely be back!!

Barry G.

Yelp
D onna is the greatest , breakfast and lunch both ate pretty good. Prices are as well

Art L.

Yelp
love the food here generally.but orders are never accurate if placed through the "toast" app for pickup.

Carol W.

Yelp
I recently returned with a $10 gift card from the owner as the donuts on my first visit tasted stale. This time, my honey dipped tasted fresher. I also got a coffee roll - they are huge!, and a chocolate glazed. These were for my ten year old daughter and husband. Of the three donuts, the best one was the chocolate glazed. They definitely know how to make cake donuts. The honey dipped and the coffee roll were heavier than I would like. I prefer light and airy glazed donuts, and these were definitely denser. I'd like to come back a third time and try their diner food. A friend has told me that that's what they are really good for. I'll have to find a time in the morning where I can sit and enjoy breakfast.

Magaly G.

Yelp
Best food and staff, especially Dawn, Felice and Tatiana. I come here for that old school diner feel and good food and I leave more than satisfied with a full belly and a smile on my face because one of the girls made a joke that made my day. Best place in Malden/Medford/Everett area!

Christina C.

Yelp
*This review is regarding a delivery order Full disclosure: I have never been to their physical location and I've never tried their entrees. I ordered donuts from them for a party and I thought they were "ok" hence the rating. Truth be told, I think the taste about the same as Dunkin Donuts (and I'm not really a Dunkin fan). To be clear, they are by no means bad but they don't impress much either. They are....okay...and that's my rating.

J C.

Yelp
Excellent donuts! Order or arrive early to get the more popular ones! Also you can get delivery, so treat your household with surprise breakfast donuts!

Tiff L.

Yelp
A small but busy diner that serves up all the great diner classics with added twists. Donut Villa Diner is located in a small plaza in Medford with ample parking. It's small inside but they do have outdoor dining. With donut in the name, you can't leave without getting a donut! They sell out early so I recommend getting here early. The menu is very extensive - I recommend the hash omelette, pancakes, and The Hungry Man! They also offer a variety of dishes that include donuts in it as well. I've tried their donut french toast which was pretty good!

Hillary F.

Yelp
Found this little gem searching for the best Boston cream donut near our hotel, certainly not disappointed. The ambiance is so welcoming and homey, the woman that served us was so friendly and helped us picked the donuts we should try. The Oreo donut was AMAZING , it was my favorite out of the half dozen we tried. It was super sweet but not overbearing, the maple bacon was surprisingly really yummy too! Honestly all the donuts we tried we really good & fresh. Highly recommend coming here if you want super yummy donuts!

Gabriel F.

Yelp
Popped in for a quick coffee and a meeting with some colleagues and tried their Boston cream donut. Granted, it was late in the day (around 1pm) and I got the last one but it was still pretty good. Soft and fluffy donut with not too much filling and creamy chocolate glaze. I'm definitely be back again, earlier next time, to try a fresh one.

Julie K.

Yelp
I don't get a lot of food here, but I always make it a point to buy one of their monster coffee rolls. The thing is huge. It's easily enough for two or three people. I usually cut it in two with the intention of saving the second half for the next day. That second half usually doesn't last more than a few hours before I eat it. I have had their iced coffee, which is also very good.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
Good donuts! They were big and fresh. The dough was good not melt in your mouth but light. I tried the glazed and the Nutella. Neither was overwhelmingly sweet, they were both just sweet enough and you can definitely eat more than 1!

Hayley S.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast and it did not disappoint! I made my own omelette and my boyfriend got the Boston cream pie pancakes! We sat at the counter which gives such a cozy vibe and the staff was super friendly!

Sean M.

Yelp
A hidden gem! Hidden in a small strip of stores off a busy intersection, but after you're past the threshold it's like your small home town. An unpretentious menu also has hidden delights like a Belgian waffle artistically piled with fresh sliced strawberries and whipped cream-- who woulda thought!! And the BEST coffee this side of Seattle. Booths as well as counter seats. I live 2 1/2 hours away and can't wait to get back if I'm brave enough to tackle the horrendous roads of metropolitan Boston that resemble a brown of spaghetti.

Rita C.

Yelp
Great service. The workers were super busy on a Saturday morning but clearly flowed well together in such a small space. The chicken and waffles was great. Fluffy & vanilla waffles with piping hot chicken. Will definitely visit again

Geo R.

Yelp
Food is ok. Server very friendly, 4 stars, we did order some others dishes, corn beef h and eggs, order over medium, I got over easy, pay extra for truffle fries... very, very cheap on the truffle

Taryn C.

Yelp
The food here is AMAZING! I loved the atmosphere of a small diner, and everyone is friendly there. There's so many choices for food, and their donuts are unreal. I ordered the grilled cheese pesto egg sandwich, and they let me substitute turkey bacon for ham, and I shared a cinnamon roll donut with my sister...11/10!

Sarai R.

Yelp
Love. Love. Love them!!! I've been to both locations and both are wonderful. Staff is always helpful and the vegan food is *chefs kiss* perfection. Whenever I'm in the area (I'm two hours away) I make sure to make a quick stop even if it's just for their vegan chicken. It's the best I've ever had!!! I'll be there this week!

Julia M.

Yelp
Great gluten free donuts! Multiple flavors to choose from and I've never felt sick after. The owners are incredibly friendly too. Need to check out the other locations.

Chun T.

Yelp
We randomly choose this place for brunch because the original one we want to try near Charlestown is not exist anymore. What a surprise that this place is amazing! We had donuts French toast and steak tips and eggs (of course ). It was delicious! The donut tasted so fresh and the steak was very tasty. It really does tasted like marinated over 24 hours. Very delicious. We will definitely come back again for sure!

Laura D.

Yelp
3.5/5 Pros: -Some fun donut flavors -Inexpensive -Cool diner vibe -Really nice staff -Lots of parking in the plaza -- Overall, the dough is fluffy but a little bit heavy/thick. Not oily, but not melt in your mouth light. Honey Dip Nice amount of glaze. If I went back I'd probably get this or a chocolate frosted. Boston Cream I liked the chocolate icing which seemed to be a little more cocoa-y or at least less sweet than other places. The filling seemed like standard vanilla pudding, but there was a lot of it. Coffee Roll HUGE roll--probably the size of 1.5-2 donuts. It was on the dry side inside, but I liked the cinnamon flavor and the icing tasted like cinnamon roll icing. White Chocolate Oreo Yeast donut topped with white chocolate icing and a generous amount of Oreos. The donut base was a bit dry and the white chocolate icing was very sweet, but it did mimic the flavor of an Oreo a bit. From a previous visit: Plain Old Fashioned This one was a disappointment. It's definitely crispy on the outside but not very soft on the inside, and doesn't really have much of a flavor. Stick with the yeast donuts!

Michelle M.

Yelp
It's a long narrow dining space with no ambiance and no music. Food was decent. Older woman Dawn has that Boston townie "charm" (read rudeness) It was full when we entered. No one glanced in our direction after 5 minutes at the bar. Not much to be expected. Service much better other places.

Rui T.

Yelp
We came here for a post workout brunch from our gym, crunch (which is right next door). This restaurant is an adorable old-fashioned diner with small tables and a bar seating area. You're greeted by a full rack of huge, deep fried donuts of all different flavors. The staff is gentle and friendly!! We ordered the Norwegian eggs Benedict and the strawberries and cream waffles. We finished both within minutes because it was so delicious! 5/5 also includes the very reasonable price! Both were under $10! Then we finished with picking half a dozen of donuts for $9. I really appreciate their "kitchen appreciation fee" for those who work extremely hard in the kitchen. It is a voluntary 3% fee from your bill that goes to them since it is so common in food service that the staff are underpaid even though they are the ones bringing you the delicious food! Can't wait to come back!

Ashley M.

Yelp
Update: increasing to two stars because the owner reached out and fixed the issue with today's order and was open to discussing the quality issues I have been encountering lately. I appreciated that level of customer service. I probably won't risk another order here but I will miss their food because it was usually good. This place is a disaster. I would give zero stars of I could. My husband and I had been consistently ordering here once a week for months and our last 6 orders have all been delivered wrong...missing items, items prepared wrong, incorrect items delivered. Today was the last straw. I will never order from here again. Our order today was simple and they still managed to mess it up and I have been waiting for 4 hours to speak to the manager to try and resolve the issues. Do yourself a favor and don't order here. There are plenty of good breakfast places in the area that can manage to deliver an order correctly.

Brandon K.

Yelp
Phenomenal food and service! It was so good we ordered breakfast here twice during our trip. Can't be missed!

Lindsay D.

Yelp
There is nothing nearby that compares to the vegan donuts here. I have ordered lunch, waffles, fries, etc. Vegetarian and vegan food is abundant! This tiny spot in a strip mall that has this enormous outside tent for covid eaters was a miracle to find. I try not to go that much because I don't want to weigh 400lbs but the vegan donuts are fried and fried vegan donuts are just nonexistent around the Boston area. Some places may have them on a Sunday or for brunch but never on the regular. If they delivered these crunchy moist not too sweet but full of flavor and glazed creations... I would likely need to look up cranes to lift me out of my house post COVID. The staff is also so so nice. Love this place! Such a hidden gem!

Esther S.

Yelp
Overall great experience dining here. Came here on a Saturday at 11:30 am. The place was full but we were seated within 5-10 minutes. I ordered the lox bagel which tasted great (though I wish it had a bit more lox, and I was charged an extra $2 for the onions and capers). My partner had the donut burger which he says was very good. We also ordered the Boston cream pancakes for the table which were fantastic! Our server Felice was super nice and welcoming. The staff here are very attentive, frequently coming to refill coffee and check in to ensure we had everything we need. Would definitely come back. There are multiple things on their menu that I'm hoping to order in the future.

Pooper M.

Yelp
Housemade donuts are fantastic. The donut breakfast sandwich is very good, the donut bacon cheeseburger is awesome. Definitely worth a try at least for the novelty menu items.

Cecelia K.

Yelp
31/2 stars rounded down. We ate today at the new Newtonville location. We were seated immediately. Nice waitstaff and very nicely decorated. Vegan donut was excellent - lemon blueberry just wonderful. Vegan egg sandwich very good but a little small and didn't come with anything on the side like home fries or fruit so presentation was a little lacking. Also English muffin wasn't toasted well enough. However hubby disliked everything so unfortunately we will not be back. He ordered eggs Benedict with ham, corned beef hash, and home fries. I tasted the home fries and agreed just okay. Not enough sauce on eggs Benedict. Also I originally ordered vegan Mac and cheese but they did not have any vegan cheese sauce on a Sunday afternoon which is when you would think they would be best prepared. But maybe they ran out Too bad because their vegan menu is huge but they just don't seem to put a lot of attention to the quality of their food. Except the donuts. That was to die for!

Jen D.

Yelp
Great Vegan Options. It's tiny so I won't eat inside (immunocompromised) but they have outdoor seating. Vegan Donuts!! Delivered!

Christa S.

Yelp
Diners are some of my favorite places to go. Now that I'm vegan, it's very hard to find a diner to have a good (bad) cup of coffee at and order all of the classic Americana diner delights. Sure, there's Veggie Galaxy, but finding parking in Central Square is a nightmare and it is more of a vegetarian restaurant with a diner theme than an actual diner. Donut Villa Diner is closer to me, is a diner-diner, and has vegan donuts seven days of the week! Score. This diner is in an unassuming strip mall in a tiny, narrow spot. They have outdoor seating now in the form of a white tent in the parking lot. Our first visit was heavenly. It was a Saturday morning. I had the chik'n and waffles and my husband had the vegan Almond Joy waffle. The coffee flowed, the waitress was quick and played the "diner waitress" part to perfection, and there was a very sweet young server who kept offering us refills or asking if we needed anything else. Our second visit was a bit hectic, and the tofu scramble was the worst I'd ever had. It smelled like old sponges and old onions and tasted bland. I could only take one bite. The pancakes, house-made vegan sausage, and home fries were good! The waitress was new and very sweet and polite. Some minor things were forgotten, like a coffee order in addition to orange juice, but hey, we're all coming out of the pandemic and things are tough right now. The third visit was hectic and we ended up having to leave cash on the table (we way overpaid) and bolt. Everything was extremely discombobulated - no menus on the tables, some silverware set-up at a waiting station you had to end up serving yourself even though I don't think it was for patrons, etc. My husband went inside and tried to directly pay for our meal, but the only person who had our order information was the waitress - no centralized point-of-sale system. The Vegan Scramble (not tofu - it's home fries and beans and onions, etc) was good - mine had a hair in it and a metric ton of salt - but the extremely loud patrons next to us seemed to be having a competition with the other table next to us on who could be the most obnoxious in public and made me leave before I could finish it. One table blared videos of church and scream-talked and the other table loudly Facetimed with kids. I know it's not the restaurant's fault that the patrons were extremely loud, but my husband has sensory issues and had to keep leaving the table and sitting in the car until I texted him our food had arrived. It was honestly so horrible. One of the patrons was even talking and laughing so much she coughed on her food a few times. The waitstaff was totally MIA for most of the meal, probably because of the loud customers. All in all, it's cool that they have a vegan menu. There are vegan menu items on the Online Ordering system that don't appear on the paper menu. Will stick to donut takeout. Maybe will try the food again. My stomach doesn't feel super great, though.

Kelly B.

Yelp
The best yummy diner with a whole vegan breakfast menu. Hungry vegan is my fav but the donuts are also lovely

Taya A.

Yelp
I can't believe this place was a 5 minute walk from me and I didn't know!! I guess they recently remodeled and reopened so I'll let myself slide just this once. I have yet to have an actual meal here, but I heard the donuts were slammin', so I popped in on a Friday morning around 7 to be my own judge. First of all, the woman working was SO DAMN SWEET. She kept calling me baby and honey. I wanted to put her in my pocket and bring her home. That is exactly the kind of vibe I want when visiting a diner. They only had a few types of donuts out at that point, but I asked if there were any Boston Creams on the way because I heard those were the best. I waited a couple of minutes and the sweet lady brought out a fresh tray just for me. I grabbed two Bostons and two regular glazed. The donuts are HUGE but they are very light compared to other donuts I have tried. They aren't dense at all and aren't terribly sweet either. Also, these donuts are cheap as hell, as donuts should be! The guy behind me bought a dozen for $17. Wow. Kane's still has my heart but It's nice to know that I don't have to drive 20 minutes if need an instant donut fix. Can't wait to come back and have breakfast!!
