Was Shock G foreshadowing the existence of this perfect doughnut shop when he uttered these words back in 1990?
Donut World has the best doughnuts in the Triad. This is a scientific fact (see the research in the latest issue of the Journal of the American Association of Doughnutry). They burst onto the scene with their first store on West Market back in 2010. In the land of Krispy Kreme, it is Lean Ly's sweet shop that handily reigns supreme, raising the bar when it comes to that sugary Ouroboros known as the doughnut. One bite of these decadent doughnuts would make Gollum toss the One Ring aside like yesterday's garbage and spend the next few centuries gorging himself inside Donut World instead (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/donut-world-greensboro?select=qAmlNb3dDLflv8E_wKbhBA#qAmlNb3dDLflv8E_wKbhBA).

But yo I'm makin' money, see
So yo world, I hope you're ready for me.

The apple fritter deserves a review unto itself. It's not a pretty pastry - a lumpy, amorphous mass of dough, apple chunks and glaze - but at the same time, it's one of the most beautiful things these eyes have ever witnessed.
Just take my money, DW.
Every type of doughnut I've had here has been sublime. Even the standard varieties that look as though they'll taste just like their counterparts from KK and DD, from Harris Teeter and other supermarkets, or from every other indie doughnut shop, are just better in every way. Other than the apple fritter, I highly recommend the buttermilk doughnuts, but really, you can't go wrong here.
Doughnuts have become something of a fad in recent years, riding a junk food wave with frozen yogurt, cupcakes and bacon. In Atlanta, there are countless doughnut boutiques vying for a space in the pastry pantheon, but despite inventive flavor combinations and unusual offerings, none of the many I've tried - NOT ONE - comes close to matching Donut World when it comes to quality and flavor.
Donut World has expanded like crazy since opening the first shop just 3 years ago. There are now locations (franchised, I presume) in High Point and Burlington, and now that a High Point Road shop has opened months after another appeared on Randleman Road, that makes 4 in Greensboro.

Hey yo fat girl, come 'ere. Are ya ticklish?
Yeah, I called ya fat.
Look at me, I'm skinny
It never stopped me from gettin' busy
I'm a freak
I like the girls with the boom
I once got busy in a Burger King bathroom

It's OK, ladies... We like a little extra boom. Just down the road, across from the Burger King, is the Krispy Kreme. Walking distance from DW, even! Now that takes balls. If you really want a hot original glazed from KK to help with those curves, then by all means, head toward the bright red sign. After all, Donut World doesn't have the late-night hours of KK, so when you're craving a doughnut at midnight, it's not really an option.
But if it's daytime and you want a serious doughnut fix, then get your humps over to Donut World and pick up two or three. For an added treat, walk or drive to the Cook Out just down the street and enjoy your doughnut with that shake. I know I will.
Who's up for Gutfest '13?
Overall, 9/10.
