Where to Eat at the Jersey Shore | Eater Philly

"Decked out in neon, glass bricks, and a black‑and‑white tiled floor, this throwback diner on the boards serves a monster two‑pound burger topped with three cheeses, sautéed and fried onions, and chipotle mayo — no sharing allowed, but slaying the burger beast earns you a commemorative T‑shirt." - Caroline Coral

Google
My girlfriend and I both got burgers, I went with the Billy the Kid and it was delicious and she went with the classic Cadillac burger which was also very good. The fries were perfectly crispy just how we like them 😋. We also shared a chocolate banana milkshake and it was tasty

Google
Awesome place on the boardwalk to get breakfast, lunch or dinner. There chicken sandwiches are top notch! All 4 of us in the group had one, I prefer the Nashville! Don’t miss out, this place is a gem.

The U.

Google
Best chicken sandwich I have ever had. Beats Popeyes, Chick Fil A, if you think you have had better, you're wrong. Sandwich is massive, chicken is crispy and juicy, bun is soft and comes with fries and while you wait you can take a look at the retro art work and pictures. Definitely is a must stop in Wildwood.

Google
Stopped into Doo Wop Diner on the Wildwood boardwalk and was pleasantly surprised! I had a classic burger and shake, and both were fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and served just right. The prices are very reasonable, especially for a boardwalk spot, and the staff couldn’t have been kinder. I was impressed to see they also offer vegan and gluten-free options, so there’s something for everyone. The retro atmosphere makes you feel like you’ve stepped back in time, adding to the charm of the experience. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in Wildwood! We beat the Saturday night wait by arriving around 6:30/7pm

Google
Food was good. Service was excellent. Not much of a wait for seating. Prices are what to expect if you're eating on the boardwalk they do offer some specials as well to save a few dollars. One of the more reasonable places to eat on the boardwalk and they have a large selection of breakfast and lunch options.

Google
Absolutely amazing food and great service. Love the 50s vibe and music, poodle skirts and great staff. Have gone there every day on this trip, and is our top pick for the boardwalk. 10/10 would recommend.

Google
Was a very good meal! Food came out hot and the burger was very juicy! YUMMY!

We came here for lunch and man it was delicious! Our waitress was very nice too. Great food and great portions for the price

Yelp
If you love the 1950s era and the music (and decent diner food), this IS ABSOLUTELY your spot. Doo Wop Diner brings diners back to the days of the Doo Wop Era not only with its interior design, but also the music blaring from its sound systems. You'll feel like you've transported back to the future like Marty McFly, except you won't need a DeLorean for this. This diner is nooooo gimmick as the food is surprisingly pretty good here. Like any diner, they've got a variety of different selections that'll make your head spin and make you wish you can order everything. They've got your breakfast items - omelettes, sandwiches, pancakes and French toasts. They've got your lunch/dinner faves like 1/4 lb foot long hot dogs, half lb burgers, sandwiches, wrapes and, of course, milkshakes and malts. On our visit here, my wife ordered the Doo Wop Burger and I went with the Road Runner Dog. For the kids, we ordered the Baby Bopper Dog and Fish and Chips. Like I said, all of the food was surprisingly pretty good. We've had bad experiences with beach boardwalk food in the past, but Doo Wop Diner really exceeded our expectations as we knew we were taking a chance when we walked in. The highlight for me though was actually the addictive crinkle cut fries that was served with all of our meals. They were probably frozen, but I absolutely couldn't stop eating them because they were just so perfectly crispy and crunchy - dare I say even better than Shake Shack's fries????? To wash down our meals, I also ordered the Strawberry Banana Shake, which was a real deal ice cream shake and quite refreshing - just ask my kids. If you're walking north on the boardwalk from the Convention Center, chances are you'll easily run into the Doo Wop Diner. At first, you'll think it was just another gimmicky restaurant on the boardwalk, but you'll quickly find out that they probably serve some of the better food on the Wildwood Boardwalk, so fill up here.

Yelp
We stopped here for lunch on our first day visiting. The place itself is cool and definitely gives you that old diner feel. The staff was nice, but I feel like the server could have done a little better. We felt as though it was very transactional. The portions were okay for the prices. The food was just average. My husband did enjoy his milkshake. It's a good spot for families especially with little kids.
google avatar

Michaek S.

Yelp
Fast, attentive service. Delicious, fresh, tasty food. Basics were on point. Big half pound tasty burger, crispy crinkle fries, ice cold Coke - spot on!
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Great service, great burgers and shakes. Eating on the boardwalk can be sketchy, but this place was great.

Yelp
I decided to go with the chili cheese dog with the friend onions and a couple different things. The bread is delicious and the hot is all beef. However I'm not a fan of the chili and that's for personal choice. I don't do beans. I prefer a hot dog chili not the chili you eat out of a bowl. My waitress never did refills and it was a okay experience. The pickles are yummy! My daughter loved the burger but didn't like her chocolate pb shake cause it was not very flavored. So the food was good and if I go back I'll try the burger next time.

Rose K.

Yelp
Great service ,great food ,great atmosphere, got a six scoop ice cream sundae to share with family. It was wonderful. Can't say enough great things. Located right on the boardwalk.
google avatar

Bailey D.

Yelp
Great location right on the boardwalk with all the vibes you're coming for. Service was friendly and fast. The portions are very large so come hungry or be prepared to share!

Guy H.

Yelp
Outstanding burgers and chicken sandwiches Portions large,,milkshakes and sundaes ,,,,winners , Great value ...Great and friendly staff and family owed business ..Great vibes ..A must for locals and visitors

Unhappy A.

Yelp
Prices are good especially for the boardwalk. Food is average diner food. Servers were friendly. We go back every year.

Yelp
Tried this place when we visited Cape May in July- the restaurant is small but they are able to fit a lot of people in there and it wasn't crammed. The service was amazing and the waitstaff very attentive. The food wasn't the best- no flavor in the burgers, but came with tons of fries. Only a 3 due to the mediocre food, would have been much higher if the food matched the service!
google avatar

Brandy B.

Yelp
The Doo Wop diner is a fun, funky little diner right on the boardwalk. We arrived around 5 on a Wednesday night and although it was busy, service and food delivery was fast. I ordered the roadrunner hot dog and it was tasty! Their fries were plentiful and could easily be shared! We were a party of 4 and had absolutely no complaints whatsoever. Two of us got hot dogs, one a hot chicken sandwich, and one a patty melt!

Johnny B.

Yelp
food was sub par and they can't be bothered to give enough salad dressing. for 17 bucks there should be more then just one tender sliced up. The burgers look decent but those who want a healthier option find another place to eat
google avatar

Crystal J.

Yelp
My husband did the "Chubby Challenge" and finished it in 22 minutes to get his free t-shirt. He said the burger was really good and worth it. I had the impossible burger with fries and mozzarella sticks for an appetizer. It was all so good and we will definitely stop by again on our next trip to Wildwood. Loved the 50s atmosphere and our server was very attentive and did a great job.
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Another delicious lunch. Fish tacos were great, salad was very fresh and delicious, hotdog was amazing!
google avatar

Rachel Macie H.

Yelp
Burgers and 50's fan fair is what you will find here along with lots of other goodies as there's something for everyone even those who want an eating challenge! Coming here was kinda like heyyy there's a place we can get out of the boardwalk sun and away from the tram car for a minute let's go sit and get some food and that's exactly what we did! They have your standard you'd find at a place like this burgers malts fries fried goodies and all that in between so it's just pick your poison at that point! For me it was all about the burger that had the fried pickles on it as that's like one of my favorite things along with it came the fries which were good too and let me say it was definitely yummy and totally just hit the spot for this given day of adventure. My friend Eric from Pride Coaster Club got the burger challenge and wow this thing was a tower of burger goodness along with those fries makes for like 5 meals for me lol! He seemed to enjoy it for the most part. Our service was awesome and everyone was very friendly and this was an awesome little spot to get some classic boardwalk food. Overall who knows when or if I'll ever get back here again but it definitely was what's good for this given day of boardwalk adventure!

Yelp
Doors were wide open but still felt nice and cool. It is a very large menu with plenty of food choices for everyone. We were seated right away, and service was quick. They weren't really busy, and the food came out within 15 minutes. It is decorated like a old soda shop with plenty of nostalgia on the walls. The food wasn't bad actually the burgers were really good and juicy.cooked perfectly. I'd eat there again. Average sandwiches are around $14.

Yelp
This place is such a gem! Located centrally on the boardwalk, they can accommodate large groups. They are very efficient, & maintain quality. Their burgers are amazing!! The bread was phenomenal, as were the fries. The burger itself was decent + they have a fun variety. I would recommend!!

Melissa R.

Yelp
Amazing views. The waiters were ever attentive and friendly. The food was amazing. The wait was not very long. The pictures of Elvis were amazing. The music was my favorite.

Yelp
I ended my trip having breakfast at this classic restaurant. I was shocked I sat within 5 minutes. This place is busy. My meal was the kitchen sink and the wife had cinnamon pancakes with banana and pecans. Both meals were great and large. Great portions and fair pricing. I thought the pancakes were so good and large. Jealous I didn't have this meal but I enjoys the hash browns, the shredded kind. Although my coffee did taste kind of burnt it didn't take away from the experience. The atmosphere does feel very old-school and there's so much more to have there. I will definitely return and hope to enjoy more meals.

Yelp
I came here with a large group of friends for Sunday brunch . The vibes are clearly nifty 50s with all the chrome and 50s decor . It's an open style restaurant with great boardwalk views . My friends and I ordered a variety of things : iced coffee , omelets , French toast and pancakes ! The food was delicious, but the service was lackluster . The server forgot about my friends iced coffee twice. When she finally gave it to him there were a lot of grinds at the bottom . ( gross ) In addition , our group wasn't served at the same Time which should be standard at most places . So when my food was served I was mostly done when my friends got their omelets . The restaurant was busy but these are basic mistakes that can turn off a lot of people . I would come back to try more food though.

Yelp
My family and I went here for breakfast this week on Monday morning. When we ordered, we were told they were out of hot tea. My sister and her husband both ordered cold brew lattes from their drink menu and were both told that's not something they offer. For food, everyone's food was made as ordered except mine and my father's. I ordered a wrap that came with scrambled eggs, guacamole, and Monterey Jack cheese. When my food was served, I noticed there was no cheese on it so I asked about it. The server told me that they were out of Monterey Jack. She did offer me a different type of cheese and had my wrap remade, but it would've been nice to do that before the food came out and I had to mention it.
google avatar

Brian M.

Yelp
My daughter wanted to give this place a try for breakfast and it was very good! The service was excellent and so was the food. The dinning area was nice and clean! The price is around what to expect on the boardwalk. Definitely would recommend.
google avatar

Tracey D.

Yelp
Great food and service!! Burgers, salads, French fries & shakes.. all delicious. I had the most amazing chocolate cherry Shake! Cute theming and I highly recommend

Zach L.

Yelp
Great food and service! Our favorite boardwalk meal. Burgers were excellent. Great options for our gluten free family member. Can't wait to go back!

Genesis G.

Yelp
The brisket grilled cheese was delicious. The service was on point with it being early lunch.

Yelp
We were looking for a place to grab dinner while hanging out at the boardwalk and figured you can't go wrong with a diner! We were seated pretty quickly and given our menus. Our server was quick. We ordered chicken tenders/fries and tuna sandwich/fries. Our food came out quickly and in generous portions; I was actually surprised since almost every page of the menu mentions that "they are not a fast food place and everything is made to order so be prepared to wait". We were in and out in about 30 minutes which was pretty quick to me, especially since we were there mid week around July 4th week. Prices were also average for the type of food we had. Cash only though, so make sure you have cash to pay your bill! (I only mention it since so many people don't seem to carry any nowadays)
google avatar

Mandi C.

Yelp
Great burger/sandwiches and a great atmosphere! My boys had burgers and I had the Miss Piggy (pork roll/egg/cheese). We had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. A fun evening out on the boardwalk!
google avatar

Stacy L.

Yelp
Excellent food, especially for a location on the boardwalk. It is typical diner food which is exactly what we were looking for. Great diner coffee, large portions, good service, and reasonably priced. Everything was cooked just right, couldn't have asked for anything more

Yelp
My family and I visit the Jersey Shore for a week every summer. We decided to take a trip to Wildwood Boardwalk. We grabbed a bite to eat at the Doo Wop Diner. 4 different Shakes and 4 different burgers. Shakes were solid. Served in metal Shake tumblers. I got Chocolate/Coffee. My wife and kids got Snickers, Banana , and Coffee respectively. Burgers arrived right after the shakes. Great timing !! I got the Cuban Burger. My daughter got the Rt. 66 with mushrooms onions and Swiss. My son got Billy the Kid with BBQ Sauce and Fried Onion Rings. My wife got the Doo Wop burger with mushrooms onions Swiss and bacon. They were all served hot and cooked correctly. Fries were fresh and I upgraded to Chili cheese fries and I'm glad I did. Will I dream about this place ? No. But when you're taking your family of 4 out , you take a chance on a restaurant and the decision you make is whether you'd return or not. And we will definitely return to Doo Wop Diner. I wonder how good their breakfast menu items are .

Yelp
Seemed clean, and very busy at this diner on a holiday weekend so I found the service slow, we were so thirsty and had to wait for a drink. Okay, you are busy understood. I asked for my sandwich with no cheese, and waiter repeated it ok no cheese but guess what, yep there was cheese on my sandwich.. Two strikes for slow service & wrong order...the fries were good if that matters to you. The food could've been better but as boardwalk food goes, better options here than just pizza.
google avatar

Jenn C.

Yelp
Went to Doo Wop Diner for the first time with a group of 5. Seated fairly quickly, maybe a 10 minute wait. Everyone from the hostess to the bus boys were so polite and efficient. There is a huge menu, I should have looked before I went to get an idea of what to get! Food came out quickly. We got: chocolate chip pancakes, maple butter waffle, kids eggs, French toast, oatmeal, and a few sides. Everything was really good, except the waffle and oatmeal were just okay. I wouldn't get either one again.
google avatar

Christopher P.

Yelp
Place is jus right in the boardwalk . love the decor with all the vintage 50s stuff. Servers are young and are attentive to a point. I ordered ice coffee from a server and got regular coffee. I got the tbird burger and the beef was delicious. Everything tasted fresh. The fries tasted frozen and bland. Needed alot of salt Prices are not bad too for the portions that are offered. If in the area , check this place out if you are visiting wildwood
google avatar

Alyse J.

Yelp
This is a good, relatively quick sit-down restaurant on the Wildwood boardwalk. I think the food here is pretty average, and they lack healthy side options, which would have been appreciated. If you aren't looking for healthy food, then it is a pretty good diner. But they do have salads as well (all romaine lettuce based). I got a wrap with chicken, but the chicken was pretty dry and lacked some flavor. Fortunately, they have sauce available.
google avatar

Tony R.

Yelp
Everything here was great! From the service, to the food...it was everything you'd expect from a great diner. We will definitely go back, our next time in Wildwood!
google avatar

Cindy M.

Yelp
This place is a great place to go for a burger and milk shake. Hubby always want to stop here for lunch I usually get a burger and they are always so tasty. This time I got a salad and it was eh. I guess that's what I get for ordering a salad in a burger joint The hot fudge sundae was amazing The decor is super cute and definitely a cool place to eat The staff is really nice and attentive
google avatar

Donata N.

Yelp
Hungry and wanting to get out of the heat of an unseasonably hot day on the boardwalk we wandered it. Place was busy but we didn't have to wait. Waiter took our drink order within minutes. When he brought back our beverages he took our food order. One Marvelous Melt, one 57 Chevy and one kids Baby Bopper Dog. Food arrived quickly and hot. My Marvelous melt (think Patty Melt) was really good. Lots of grilled onions and the bread grilled toasty. Husbands 57 Chevy looked good, he said it was ok, but he is also a burger snob and a picky eater. Childs hot dog was just an average run of the mill hot dog. Fries on all even though clearly the bagged, frozen variety were crispy, salty and hot. Perfect. This was a really good boardwalk meal at a fair price. Service quick and friendly. Restrooms weren't the cleanest though. Definitely would return. Maybe for breakfast next time.
google avatar

Arriba M.

Yelp
Not too good. We ordered shrimp tacos which were served on cole slaw yuck. The Cuban sandwich had no taste it was subpar and it was overall not a good experience. I was disappointed and won't be back.
google avatar

Kelly F.

Yelp
Very nice ambiance, i really like the outdoor seating area on the boardwalk. I get to enjoy the liveliness of everything going on while enjoying my food. Server was very friendly and portion sizes were pretty big. Has the classic diner look to it. Definitwly would recommend and will be back again.
google avatar

Sidney N.

Yelp
Yummy breakfast here. They had a doo wop special we also got that was good for 8.99. 2 pancakes, 2 eggs, 2 bacon& 2 sausage. Everything was good and not expensive
google avatar

Jessica M.

Yelp
This is place worth a visit! I went to grab breakfast to go, the doo wop special, which came with 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausages, and 2 eggs. The breakfast tasted great, exactly what me and my husband wanted. Tastes way better than breakfast I've had in other places in the area. For lunch, I went back for another order to go, the Cadillac burger with substitute onion rings, and three milkshakes, chocolate cherry, m&m's, and orange cream. My kids loved the milkshakes, and so did I. Nice and thick, but not too thick where you cant sip from a straw. My husband enjoyed his burger. Onion rings were delicious. Will definitely be back. Plus the lady at the front counter was friendly, helpful and so pleasant! Great customer service provided!

Bunny R.

Yelp
This used to be my favorite place to eat on the boardwalk but this year that may have changed. The menu is now much smaller, and many of the items I once ordered are now gone. Service is pretty quick but my waitress kept talking quietly as if it was not a bustling restaurant, but she was very nice. Our food was served on a prison tray and mine in a wire basket that made it very difficult to cut my food. I used to feel like they cared more, maybe there's new management, but at least the food was still tasty, just regret the shortened menu. Try their milkshakes, they're huge and come in a variety of flavors! and always still fun looking at the vintage decor.
google avatar

Dylan Z.

Yelp
Hit this place on the boardwalk for dinner after a long day at the beach, and it was pretty good. It's got a cool 50's vibe to it, and it had plenty of seating. The service was also great, our waiter had a few other tables besides ours and was still very attentive and caring. The food was good too. I got the Drunken Sailor, which was a Mahi-Mahi sandwich, and it was really tasty. The fries were also excellent. Overall a great place to hit on the boardwalk!
google avatar

Joshua M.

Yelp
Excellent food and service. Would recommend to anyone visiting the wildwood boardwalk!

Yelp
Visit Date: September 1, 2013 Love this gem of a diner on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. This is one of the unique attractions on the boardwalk, among stands hawking many appetizing fatty snacks, boardwalk merch, rides and games. When you step into the Doo Wop you literally step back into the 1950s. I've been here three times during two trips to WildWood. Once I had a shake or a soda at the counter (I can't remember), the first time I shared a shake with hubby (he was my fiancee) at the time, and recently we went there for breakfast during our first wedding anniversary trip to WildWood. I ordered the Anna's special pancakes. They were a delight I couldn't finish but they were delicious! The pancakes come with bananas, peanut butter chips and chocolate chips. My favorite combo is peanut butter and chocolate, sometimes when I make a smoothie I do throw a banana into that mix so I needed to try these pancakes and I did not regret my breakfast choice. The coffee is your standard diner coffee which is fine by me. I'm a weird coffee snob. I will drink standard diner coffee with no problem, but give me a weak, bitter or incredibly strong but ill tasting cup of coffee anywhere else and I might not be a fan of your establishment. If you come to Wildwood, NJ doowop is a must at least once!

Joyce Z.

Yelp
Love this 50s doo wop themed diner right on the boardwalk! We arrived at 9:30 for breakfast and there was no wait. Our server was very friendly and attentive. The food was perfectly prepared and delicious. It's a fun decorated restaurant and we enjoyed looking at all the 50s artwork on all the walls. Highly recommend!

Lor S.

Yelp
French toast was out of this world! Busy place with hard workers. A little bit of a wait to sit but overall was pretty quick given the amount of customers. Breakfast was delicious. Mozzarella sticks for dinner are amazing!

Shirley S.

Yelp
Great burgers and fries! Delicious milk shakes too! Did takeout but the hostess was nice and friendly!

Joe C.

Yelp
One of the worst meals of all time. My 2 year old was served chicken tenders. After giving him a piece and him eating it, I realize that the middle of the chicken tender is RAW, pink like just purchased at the store uncooked. The other chicken in the basket also raw. When telling the server i saw him mention to the manager and all they did was take it off the bill. She didn't bother to come over to apologize, nothing. The server tried his best to explain that the cook was new, etc. However, a situation like this the manager needs to check in with the customer and take control. I can deal with something being wrong or incorrect in an order but I cannot deal with serving straight up raw chicken to a toddler. This is never an mistake that should ever happen in a kitchen. The manager should inspect what she expects. Do better!

Allie A.

Yelp
My favorite diner by far in the Wildwoods! I've come here many times and I love all the diner staples- grilled cheese, milkshakes, crinkle cut fries, mozzarella sticks, etc. They have really good chicken tenders and I love the Stewart's Cherries and Cream Soda float with vanilla ice cream! The diner is really cute as well and I've never had an issue with customer service. The only negative I can think of is that I had a take out order of mozzarella sticks last week and they gave me a cup of marinara with no lid- of course it spilled and went all over the food, luckily it didn't go on my clothes or car! 100% come here if you're looking for a diner in the area, I've tried many and this is the best.
