I found out about this bakery business through a yelper, Kendra W, who gave a very detailed review. The review was useful and cool. It was her first review. I hope she writes more reviews.
Doodlecakes is located in the 600 block of Central Avenue, formerly the site of the Cookiebar Ice Cream. What a cute bakery decorated in pink and a hint of lavender. Even the decorations on the assorted cupcakes are cute. It has a certain charm and reminds me of another bakery in Castro Valley which specializes in macarons and other sweet treats. Outside of the bakery are two small tables and four chairs for customers to sit, relax and enjoy their sweets.
Specialties: cupcakes, regular and gluten free/vegan; sugar cookies, cake jars, fancy cake jars, custom made cakes in three different sizes (4", 6" and 8") and beverages.
Female employee is the baker/owner and male employee serves the customer. They are friendly and pleasant. I asked if they would be offering sugar free cupcakes. They didn't have any of those at the moment; however, the owner is working on it. I am not the only customer who asked that question.
Purchase: 1 strawberry shortcake in jar, 3 cupcakes in different flavors - orange creme, carrot and red velvet. Which cupcake did I try first? Because I have to watch my sugar intake for health reason, I had 1/4 of the carrot cupcake. Icing was a tad sweet, but the cupcake was flavorful, moist and very good.
Finally, I hope Doodlecakes is here to stay on the west end. It is a welcome addition to the community, as I miss the other bakery (Superhero Desserts) with their "happiness in a pan".
