Which Minneapolis and St. Paul Patios Are Open Right Now, Summer 2020 | Eater Twin Cities

"I found their patio is currently open with tables sometimes placed on existing patios, in parking lots, or on sidewalks; guests are asked to wear masks and all staff will be masked, with precautions in place—check with the restaurant for individual days and hours. Studies suggest lower exposure risk when dining outdoors, but that benefit depends on restaurants following strict social distancing and other safety guidelines." - Joy Summers

The food was fantastic and the service was great. Some of the best wings I have ever had. If you’re going to stop here for lunch order the wings as an appetizer there’s enough for three people. The burger I had was also delicious and cooked to perfection

My chicken was half done I sent it back to the kitchen twice. Third time it come back half done I give up. I ordered the rib and chicken combo. My ribs was dry like they had been set out for a minute. I don't know high skill as it's supposed to be, I just expected more, but my service was awesome and the manager was amazing.

This place was amazing it was me and my fiancés first time here. The food was phenomenal we got the ribs and the cajun chicken pasta. It was great and our server Payton was energetic, lively and brought the whole mood up in this place and was very welcoming. He was also a good in conversation and he makes us want to come back!!!

When you walk in the door you are greeted with the smells of roasting chicken. As you are seated, you walk past turning spits of roasted chicken over flames and neat stacks of firewood reminding you that the woodfired aspect is not just a name. The atmosphere is bustling yet intimate. Great date spot. Good, American style food done well. Definitely a couple steps above the proverbial 'millennial burger joint.'

I’ve been to this restaurant at least a half-dozen times now, and my experiences have ranged from great to just okay. With that said, I’ll share some of my favorite parts of dining here and a few things I’ve noticed over the course of my visits. One thing that stands out is that the service isn’t always consistent. The only times I can say it’s been truly great were when we specifically asked for Ivan, who does an outstanding job and is a character. There’s also a female server I can’t recall her name for the life of me but she is very good as well. On the flip side, a couple of other times the service wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t quite up to par either. The host stand, though, is almost always excellent. The ladies there are welcoming and make you feel welcome as soon as you walk in. Only once did I have a hostess who seemed off her game, moving us around to different tables because they weren’t clean or no one was covering that section. Still, most of the time, they set the right tone for the evening. As for the restaurant itself, the decor has a nice, somewhat romantic vibe, and the food has been consistently good on every visit. It’s definitely become one of our go-to spots. Another plus is that there’s plenty of parking, which is always a relief. On my most recent visit, a manager even came over to introduce himself and check if we needed anything. That was a nice surprise and made the experience feel more personal. Now, for the cons. Service tends to slip if we don’t happen to get one of the more seasoned servers. The wings also aren’t consistent—sometimes they come out perfect, other times they’re a little pink. Since that seems to be the usual way they serve them, I think it would be better if they asked guests if that’s okay rather than just assuming. Also, be prepared to wait if you come on a weekend or even a weekday after 5 PM, because it fills up fast. All in all, my wife and I have enjoyed our visits and learned what times and days work best for us to get our favorite staff and avoid the long waits. Between the good food, the nice atmosphere, and a few stand out servers, it’s worth coming back even if there are a few inconsistencies here and there.

Google
Came after 9pm for half off apps ($2 off the wings). Great food, especially the wings! Calamari and the Chicken flatbread were great too. Meatballs were decent but a little bland for us (we’re from Louisiana 🤷🏻‍♂️). Walleye was very tasty. Our first time here, we were recommended by a friend who lives nearby, and we would happily return!

I didn't prepare my self for such a nice time for my mom's 82ND birthday. But could not been more blown away by the wonderful menu, chef, staff, and above it all the FOOD!!!!! We all 8 of us by the way, we all ordered different items and not 1 bad dish in the bunch.

Google
This place was an unexpected to find on our trip through Minneapolis. you were hit by an amazing smoke smell as soon as you walk through the door. The steak was one of the best stuff I've ever had in my life.

Yelp
I cannot recommend this place enough. Being from Minnesota originally and eating at this restaurant so many times what I can tell you is they're consistency is never off. It's always delicious. Make sure you get something from the rotisserie chicken menu because their food with the chicken always hits hard. Cajun chicken pasta is always one of my strong go to... But honestly everything is tasty there. It's a suburb of the Twin Cities and so you know the people and staff are extremely friendly. Your water glass will never go empty nor will your cocktail glass. The restaurant has aviation decor which makes it fun and whimsical. I highly recommend if you're anywhere near this place to go try it it's very affordable, very good service, and like I said it's consistent and it's excellence and taste. Great place to catch up with friends and just have a wonderful dinner with your significant other

Yelp
On our first night in the Twin Cities, we decided to eat near our hotel in Eagan. It is a lovely place with kind people and wonderful staff. Everyone were helpful and made this a great experience. And now, the food. They have a good salad choice as a starter. My husband had the Caesar Salad to start. He enjoyed it and it was a perfect size. I had the house salad. J had a conversation with the server about trying to order gluten free dishes. I was disappointed that my salad had toasted strips all over the top. In the description of the salad, they only mentioned the types of salad dressing. They never mentioned any type of wheat product here. The chicken on the spit was recommended. It was very tender and the dark meat was even juicy. My husband had the salmon which was prepared perfectly. We had a nice dinner and would definitely go back again.

Yelp
I've been here a handful of times for company lunches and my tummy is happy every time ! My go to is the steaks here, always cooked to perfection! I order mine medium rare and it always comes out nice and tender. I've have a handful of the appetizers as well but always forget to get photos, hands down my favorite one is the walleye fingers.

Yelp
We met up with family here for our final vacation night in MN. What a perfect meeting place! We had reservations and were seated right away. Our waiter immediately came over and took our drink order followed by our food choices. The food came out very quick, especially since it was so busy. Everything was cooked to perfection and delicious! We ordered the 1/4 roasted chicken plate, the Cajun chicken pasta, prime rib French dip and two orders of the chicken wings. The bread slices were also delicious. The atmosphere is somewhat loud, but not annoyingly so. We would definitely go back!

Yelp
Decent food and seems fancy enough to come here but haven't been here in years due to getting sick after eating here. Typical American food.

Yelp
This is for the wings, and for the service I've had here. The wings are to die for! I am in love with them and I am a wing girl!! Also each time I have been here I have had fantastic service. All of the waiters have been quick, super nice, funny and kind no matter what time of day. It seems to be slow during the day until about 5 or 6 then this place gets busy. I enjoy sitting in the booths at the bar but if you have a larger group or want more of a dinner experience the back room is very nice.

Yelp
Yup, it's faaawncy. Which means it's both a little pricey and smaller portions, but lovely presentation and great, unique flavor. Honestly, the deserts were the most affordable thing on the menu. Lots of alcohol options, if that's your thing. The inside ambiance is also fancy... somewhat dimmed lighting, but loud and bustling inside. There's some but not a lot of outdoor seating, and a large square bar in the center. Employees were kind enough and attentive to our numerous refills (my father-in-law drinks iced tea like a fish). Bathrooms were fine, though only a single men's stall for such a crowded, high-occupancy place isn't the best (might I suggest making your bathrooms all-gender?). Might end up going again sometime in the future, but maybe not? We just moved to the area, so we've got a long list of places to try out to find out what's our fave!

Yelp
The smell of the wood rotisserie when you first walk in the door is AMAZING. The service was great. The server was kind and helpful with fun suggestions to do while we were visiting Minneapolis. I got the Reuben . I am always looking for a good Reuben . I was not disappointed, so much flavor and big portions I brought 1/2 back to the hotel. My husband got 1/2 chicken w/ mashed potatoes and green beans. So good. Chicken falls off the bone and so flavorful. We were so surprised to only see a few people in the restaurant. If this was in California there would be a line out the door. Oh and we got a pice of the mudslide cake to go . Also amazing.

Yelp
I really enjoyed this restaurant - everything I tried was great! I was with a group and we shared the walleye fingers and buffalo wings. I think they are well known for their chicken and when you come inside you can see the chickens cooking in the wood fire. The ambiance is a step or two above casual - I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We are new to Eagan and decided to try Doolittles for lunch one day. The food was so good and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The service was friendly and quick. We liked it so much we decided to go back a second time for dinner a few days later. We will definitely be back again!

Yelp
Excellent cozy restaurant, the best bartenders and drinks in town! They remember your name and treat you well. Wood fired chicken and wings that are delicious. Fantastic ceaser salad. Comfortable booths and bar stools. Great views of the TVs to watch the game without being a wall of TVs. Always great patrons to strike up a conversation with at the bar. One of my favorite places to go. Great management, and a lot of pride from the staff. I would say this is the best restaurant in the Eagan, apple valley area!

Yelp
Came here for Father's Day and they were packed. The host greeted us and got us a table within minutes. The classic cheese burger was nice and juicy, the ribeye steak with fingerling potatoes. The wood fire wings is a must as well as the cream of wild rice soup. Wings are roasted to perfection. The star of the meal was oven roasted Alaskan Halibut over hash of artichoke hearts, red bell pepper, fingerling potatoes, onion & arugula, lemon cream, basil pesto aioli. Our waitress told us that it would smell fishy but would not taste like it and she was right. The halibut was delicate and moist. The basil pesto aioli paired very well. The arugula gave the dish a freshness.

Yelp
Service by Lindsey was the best part. My companions like this restaurant a lot better than I do. They have half-priced bottles of wine on Mondays which is a great deal. I had the Butternut Squash soup and it was very good. Autumn in a cup. My friend really liked her Cavatappi and another ordered the half-chicken. She took the leftover chicken home to her dog. I ordered the Scallop Risotto and was disappointed. The menu description is shown below. My first bite was just lemon oil. Then I could taste the yam. The risotto itself was very plain and didn't taste of mushrooms. The fennel really threw the dish off. The scallops were very good and cooked perfectly. The flavors didn't mesh at all. Seared Scallops & Mushroom Risotto-pan seared scallops over roasted crimini risotto with fresh fennel, broccolini & parmesan cheese, lemon oil, crispy yam shoestrings. We didn't have room for dessert.

Yelp
Came here Saturday afternoon and was seated right away! We sat out on the patio and our waitress was very accommodating with our seating and helped us move umbrellas so that we could have preferred sunlight seating!! Our meal was amazing, no complaints. Outside they have music playing, but it is at a nice volume. Tables are spread out, so you're not too close to any one. It is a bit pricey, but well worth it!!!
google avatar

Kaelyn C.

Yelp
Walked over from our hotel and glad we did. The atmosphere of the restaurant is really cool, lots of vintage aviation stuff. The food came out fast despite the restaurant being fairly busy. The food itself was good, the chicken breast sandwich was very tasty. Our server Portia was super engaging, she offered us some good recommendations, and was super prompt with refills on drinks.
google avatar

Natalie P.

Yelp
Food was amazing, service was amazing, and the seating was comfortable! Best chicken I've had in my life.
google avatar

Raiana Z.

Yelp
Just has an amazing time here! Went for a birthday dinner with about 20 other people and they were so accommodating! The staff were very friendly and the chicken is the best I've had in years! Super juicy and tons of flavor! Space was also very comfortable and had a friendly atmosphere! We will definitely be back!

Yelp
As soon as you walk in the door, the smell of their food is beyond delicious. Very friendly. Staff was seated right away. Ordered food got food immediately nice and hot. Chicken was very tender. Fresh green beans mashed potatoes were very good fresh overall great experience definitely will be back
google avatar

Joanna R.

Yelp
Service was excellent. The staff was personable and took extra care during our visit. The food was ok. The quality was not there! It's a shame. The Brussel sprouts were hard but the salmon was good. The chicken wings were different but good. The cheesecake was a triple chocolate kind of desert-different. I did not like the way the chicken was topped on the salads. Some of the pieces had gristle and soft bones. Entrees prices from $22-$39. Check it out and form your own opinion!
google avatar

Justin R.

Yelp
This place was very good ! The parking lot out front is very large and easily accessible. When you walk in, you get greeted and then seated. Make sure to smell the meat over the wood fire behind the desk :) the menu is pretty big with a lot of options. I had the Cubano sandwich with fries and got a side of cole slaw. The food was very good. The server was quick and timely and very respectful. If you haven't tried this place, it is great for a family dinner or even a solo dinner ! I will definitely be back.
google avatar

Yelp
Such a warm and comforting place. Comforting is how I would describe this place in general. The staff is very welcoming and the service doesn't disappoint. The food is good old comfort food and it is definitely done well. I love the chicken roasting on the fire rotisserie. It smells amazing and the fire adds to the comforting atmosphere. Started with the Parmesan Artichoke dip. It is very good, I appreciate the toasted yet soft Focaccia that is served with the dip. I ordered the Arctic Char with Ginger Honey and I loved it. The fish was cooked nicely and the couscous with bell pepper, squash, and plumped raisins is excellent but the star of this dish is the Ginger Honey cream. Another person in my party ordered the Rib and Chicken Combo. Slightly disappointed with this dish. The chicken was good but the ribs were a bit tough. Definitely had to work to chew it. Not sure if I would order the ribs on a return trip. Luckily the menu has a lot to offer and this place is worth checking out if you're in the mood for some good comfort food.
google avatar

Edward S.

Yelp
Love the airplane theme of this restaurant. It was very busy on a Friday night but was still able to find a parking spot in their large parking area. The service was fast and friendly. I had the rotisserie chicken sandwich and it was delicious! Mashed potatoes as a side option is much appreciated as I prefer that over fries with that type of sandwich. I've been here before and will be back again. One of my favorite restaurants in Eagan.
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Definitely a place to check out for great food and discounted drinks. Came here with coworkers for dinner and was immediately impressed by their grill area that they display in the front before you are seated. They have $5 beers and $4 other drinks with discounted wine and happy hour appetizers. Everything looked and tasted great. One complaint, if any, is that the meat - especially the ribs I got were burnt bad on the bottom which reduced how much meat was edible. Portions overall could be improved. However, still a great place to visit. Their chicken is outstanding.
google avatar

Hoa N.

Yelp
The first time we tried Doolittles was from a to go order for their wings and my husband and me just had to come back to try them as fresh as possible since they were already so good from take out. When you first walk in, you'll see all of the proteins being cooked over the Woodfire grill, rotisserie style which was great to be greeted by (both sight and smell). We also ordered the ribs and the bbq sauce had a good tang and sweetness to it. Our server was awesome with the recommendations and was very attentive for anything we needed.

Buster H.

Yelp
First time I've been here in years and now I remember why. Service was slow and uninspiring, while the wood fired area filling the room is nice the noisy features of the bar detract from a dining room experience. The food was decent but I'd probably go across the street to Casper's as it was, as mentioned, just decent.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
We stopped in on a Thursday night around 6/630 without a reservation and were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant was full of people and amazing smells. We were seated in a side area with a fireplace and found it to be very cozy on a cold night. Fresh bread was brought to the table and it was very good. We started with a salad, which we asked for with the meal but it came out first. Not a huge deal. For a meal we split the half chicken, I found the potatoes to be lacking flavor and the chicken was good but a little sweet. I'm not sure what sauce was on it but wasn't totally my jam. For dessert we went with the carrot cake based on recommendations from our server....this was my least favorite thing I ate this week. I took one bite and stopped, it was super cold and pretty lumpy filled with some an assortment of items. I also have to say it was a pretty small piece. We ordered the kids mac and cheese and it came out piping hot, to the point where we burned ourselves and still have a mark. Would love for them to cool it down a little before bringing it to a child. All in all we had a good time, but I can't saw we will be eager to come back. In a normal world I may have rated it a 3, but because the service was good and there honestly wasn't anything majorly wrong I went with a 4.

Trance Q.

Yelp
Waited 30 minutes for Bloody Mary One hour and 30 minutes for food and everything we ordered weren't bad but weren't good either So bye bye not returning here for sure Waiter was quite lazy by the way
google avatar

Gita B.

Yelp
The wings at Doolittles cannot be beat! The warm inviting smell of the wood fire is just a lovely way to set the tone for your meal. Plus, out of this world service by the folks in Eagan on a busy New Year's Eve. The ribs were a-okay. Wings are definitely the way to go. The subtle buffalo glaze packs a huge flavor punch. Definitely go check out this Twin Cities staple!
google avatar

Douglas H.

Yelp
Great meal. Doolittles is known for their wood fired wings which were amazing. Also tried the walleye fingers. I am not a fan of fish but these may change my mind on walleye. Really good. Had the chicken breast sandwich for entree and it was one of the better ones I have had. Tender, juicy rotisserie chicken breast with a nice chipotle aioli. Loved this place. Great service, great food. Look forward to coming back.
google avatar

Jessica W.

Yelp
Doolittles has been a staple spot in our family for about 2 decades and it never disappoints!! The rotisserie wheel when you enter immediately explains that any order including chicken will be 5/5 stars. Standard orders from us include Walleye Fingers, Chicken Sandwich, Cobb salad, and a bowl of wild rice soup - an unwaveringly comfort meal!
google avatar

Shawn A.

Yelp
I was very happy with the taste and juiciness of the woodfire rotisserie chicken. I wish I could eat all the skin on my 1/2 chicken dish. But the little part I had had such a great overall taste. The meat was very good. The service was also great with a decent draft beer selections. The seating arrangements are busy, crowded, and aged. But comfortable and, oh boy, so busy on a Wednesday evening with so many locals. Great sign of a sustainable business. Well done everyone overall and happy to have visited it.

Dawn R.

Yelp
Services was excellent. Good variety on Menu. Noise level was pretty high. Food was fine.

Yelp
Eat here all the time. SO yummy. Love their roasted chicken and their chicken wild rice soup is delicious. The mud pie is good too.

Yelp
Came on a Sunday night for dinner. The first thing you will notice is the delicious wood burning smell! As you walk to the dining area, you will walk past a open fire roasting all kinds of different meats! The vibe felt slightly dated but has a lot of fun airplane vibes and decor items. It is well kept and the seats in the booth were comfortable. The host and server were very pleasant. I did notice that everyone around us got a basket of bread and we did not. We did order entrees, so I'm not sure why we didn't get the bread. The blueberry mojito was very refreshing and would be perfect on a summer evening! The prime rib French dip was good but towards the end of the sandwich it got fatty and I wasn't able to finish the meat. My friends steak wrap was very good! The carrot cake was good but would have been great had it been heated up! (It came out chilled) Overall, a good experience! This would be a great place to bring the family or a date!

Midwest R.

Yelp
Service was terrific, and the prime rib Philly was excellent. We also had a flatbread that we would definitely order again.

Mari M.

Yelp
SO GOOD!!!! The service was wonderful, our waitress was so sweet to our 7 month old baby. I've been here 4 times and have gotten the ribs every time, they are amazing. The overall feel of the place is warm. Love that fire when you walk in. It makes for a great date night.
google avatar

Liz C.

Yelp
I had the chicken and ribs dinner that came with coleslaw and fries. I cut into the rib and found it to be really dry, the bbq sauce was a tad too spicy for me. I then cut into the thigh and that was so dry that I had to spit the bite out or risk choking. Our server Ashley was friendly and helpful, the coleslaw and fries were really good. I sent my dinner back and instead got a bowl of chicken and wild rice soup which was quite salty and I didn't finish. The restaurant has a good vibe and maybe this was just an off night for the cook but I sure won't be going back.
google avatar

Jens M.

Yelp
Update. I can't review the Cubano again because they don't offer it on the weekends! What is up with that???????
google avatar

Kristina W.

Yelp
The pear and chicken salad was honestly the best salad I have ever had! The mix of ingredients goes so well together, just truly delicious. Our server was very friendly and attentive and had great menu recommendations.
google avatar

Landon H.

Yelp
Great place for socializing, drinks, and food! Came here with a large group of people and we all enjoyed our time. The service was great and served all of us quite well. Everyone's drinks looked good, and mine tasted great! I got an Old Fashioned. Very well balanced. If you come here you have to get the spareribs! I got the spareribs and they were amazing, I wish I could of had more!!! I also enjoyed my sides of coleslaw and fries which come with the spareribs. For dessert we tried the crème brûlée and it was amazing!!! A hard top with a creamy filling, it was to die for. I would recommend anyone to this restaurant if you want to have a great meal and a good time with others!
google avatar

Shayna T.

Yelp
My experience was better this time around. The menu has been recently updated and they now have sourdough bread instead of their old seeded crust bread.
google avatar

Frank N.

Yelp
Food was average, 3.0 the Pork Chop for $28, was maybe 7 ounces, over grilled, the Salads were good 3.5, the Ribs an Chick portion was adequate $34.00, ? 3.75 they rated ribs just ok! The House Chardonnay at $29... 3.0, over priced. The Waitress was a Pill, actually a Pest, until we said we are visiting over wine an the Calamari.. 2.5.... Second time and last time there Porter Creek , Gary's, is a better option, owners the same!
google avatar

Elizabeth P.

Yelp
Always great food and great service whenever I come here. The wing and cauliflower bites are my favorite
google avatar

Ryan F.

Yelp
So many menu options and it was tough to tell if there's a specialty. Ours was a fine meal - the space is comfortable and there's a very strong local crowd supporting the business. Our service was okay and the food was not memorable.
google avatar

Nancy W.

Yelp
The ambiance is beautiful and the wood fired rotisserie chickens are a spectacular focal point. The service was good. For the serving size, I found the price too high. Further, the meat (rotisserie chicken) that was added to my pasta dish was extremely skimpy. I think I got two bites of chicken, and the rest of the dish was inexpensive pasta. The drinks were expensive and overloaded with ice. Overall, the meal was OK, but we were trying to celebrate a milestone and wanted to splurge. We left feeling disappointed. I would probably eat here again, but wouldn't seek it out.
google avatar

Noah J.

Yelp
The food was amazing. I myself ordered pasta and wine and it was delicious. Not to mention the restaurant had an excellent environment, it was cozy like a dinner at a lodge. Our server was also wonderful and overall I would definitely recommend it in the future.

Patty N.

Yelp
Great lunch last Wednesday. We had the bartender as our server. He was great. I accidentally put wrong dressing on my salad and insisted he would get me another. A very good salad & friendly employees. Can't wait to go back!
