Once again, I've had my posterior handed to me by a bowl of Ramen! Tabasco tastes like salty vinegar, so this isn't me not being able to handle some spice. I knew this would hurt the next day, though, I wasn't expecting my lips to burn in the shower that night.
Before braving the Hellfire Ramen, I had asked them how spicy a level one was. The server told me it was about a 4/10. Sold! Yeah... this was more like an 8/10. As I was trying to work my way through, my poor friends were watching my eyes water and my nose run. I couldn't finish the broth on my level one, thus I can't imagine what a level two would be. Level three would send me straight to the hospital.
I will give credit where credit is due. The broth was very savory, flavorful, and the heat wasn't an immediate onslaught. It was more of a slow burn at the back of the throat. They didn't skimp on the pork! There a handful of large, thick slices! The flavor of the meat was okay. It wasn't melt-in-your-mouth like I've had elsewhere, but I've had worse for sure. The veggies were pleasant and in perfect amounts, and the egg was a nice, classic touch. As for the noodles, I couldn't tell you what it was about them, but something made them extra-good! Like no ramen I have had before!
I also had the opportunity to try the oolong milk tea. While solid, I didn't find it superior to what I've had at Kung Fu Tea. Great as a beverage to go with a meal, but if there might be better options if getting it on its own.
The service here was wonderful! They took good care of us, providing speedy and attentive service. All the more impressive is they did this while shorthanded!
Even though this is about an hour's drive, I do want to come back and try a less spicy option!
