How the Club Sandwich Became an Icon of Hotel Room Service - Eater

"The trope is so common among actual travelers that the double-decker creation accounts for a significant proportion of hotels’ room service sales. In recent years, that meant up to 25 percent across Dorchester Collection hotels, for example." - Rafael Tonon

Outstanding Service from Elizabeth and Jose! Our check-in experience was absolutely flawless, thanks to the amazing front desk team of Elizabeth and Jose. From the moment we arrived, they worked together with such professionalism and warmth, making us feel instantly welcomed and at ease. Elizabeth was incredibly kind and attentive, while Jose was equally friendly and efficient. Together, they made the check-in process smooth and stress-free. What really stood out was their deep knowledge of the area, they gave us fantastic recommendations for local restaurants, attractions, and even tips on getting around. It’s rare to come across such a well-coordinated and genuinely helpful team. Elizabeth and Jose went above and beyond to ensure we had everything we needed for a great stay. Their hospitality truly made a lasting impression, and we’re so grateful for their exceptional service.

I had the pleasure of interacting with Jose and Elizabeth at the front desk during my stay at The Dorchester Hotel, and I cannot say enough about how exceptional their service was. From the moment I arrived, they were warm, professional, and incredibly helpful. Jose greeted me with a genuine smile and went above and beyond to ensure my check-in was seamless and efficient. He was knowledgeable about the area and gave great recommendations that made my visit even more enjoyable. Elizabeth was equally outstanding — friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist with any request. She handled everything with a calm, courteous demeanor that made me feel truly valued as a guest. Together, Jose and Elizabeth exemplify what top-notch hospitality looks like. Their outstanding customer service made a lasting impression, and they are a true asset to the Dorchester Hotel. Thank you both for making my stay so memorable!

The room was spacious, clean, and well-equipped. The location of the hotel was perfect – close to public transport and within walking distance of major attractions. I would definitely stay here again! Jose was very helpful and sympathetic😊

Google
The rooms are apartments turned into a hotel. No outlets by bed which was very inconvenient. Old furniture, dirty balcony. Pool is not on-site as advertised. Happy hour special doesn't include any good alcohol, not worth it. Ice machine was broke. Lights outside are very bright all night, even with blinds closed. Beds are hard, pillows aren't even full pillows. Would NOT recommend this hotel.

Google
Super find on Collins and 19th in South Beach. Spacious room (apartment) at very attractive price, close/walkable to Lincoln Road and sights of South Beach. Excellent Cuban food and Happy Hour at in-house restaurant Morenos. Thanks to Elisandro, Jorge, and Elizabeth at reception for helping make the stay even better. We’ll be back.

Google
The location is great and staff are incredibly nice and accommodating BUT there have been bugs in the room since the beginning. It started as super small bugs in the sink or on the counter tops. Then in the middle of our stay there was a huge cockroach in the bathroom. We called the front desk and house keeping and they just came to kill it and used a towel to clean it up that anyone could’ve ended up using later and moved on like it was normal or nothing happened. This was very disturbing!!

Google
The service provided to me at the Dorchester hotel was indeed excellent! From the very polite and professional parking attendant Devante, to the front desk receptionist Elizabeth ( who is my name twin) , I felt very comfortable and at ease . They gave me an experience of a lifetime that I will never forget!

This is our third time staying at the Dorchester. We love the location, staff and cleanliness of the hotel. It is in walking distance to everything, restaurants, shopping and beaches. The parking is on site and convenient. Julian the hotel manager is amazing he goes out of his way to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. Will continue to stay here. Can’t say enough good things about this little gem!

Yelp
The room was supposed to be ready at 3. We waited until 3:45 and then we're shown to a suite, not a room where the paint was peeling, a bad smell, and broken down furniture over looking a parking lot. All the ground floor was being used for an art installation for Art Basel. The place is a wreck!!! The hotel where we had booked a room was empty. Not sure what is going on but would stay away!

Yelp
I purchased a stay in this hotel for my mother's birthday. Since she's not technologically savvy, I am leaving feedback per her request. The check in: very smooth. She and her best friend arrived around noon and the room was already set up for them. The concierge was very courteous, showed two senior ladies the lay of the land, how things worked, where to go in the evening. Rooms: very clean. The cleaning staff does an excellent job. Even my OCD mother appreciated it:) The happy hours: you sure know to get two ladies (ages 60+) completely plastered:)))) I haven't heard my mother that giddy in ages. The beach: since this was just after Irma, the ocean was still full of gunk but the beach crew did their best to clean things up. The noise: yes, you are very close to all the clubs and attractions and it does get noisy at night. The only reason why I am taking off one star: you may want to invest in free coffee/tea in the morning. Or coffee machines in each room or at least on the floor.

Yelp
It was my first time staying at the Dorchester with my family and we were pleasantly happy with the service. The staff was attentive and allowed us to leave our luggage as we arrived before check in. They gave us complimentary cards for free happy hour drinks, free wifi and free beach chairs/umbrella chairs. The location was perfect, 1 1/2 block away from the beach. Restaurants, pharmacies any shopping was nearby. We would gladly stay here again. The only thing that was a little weird was copies of all of our IDs were made and kept on file. No one could really answer why it was necessary? Please note when we checked out & paid the resort fees, we did ask for our copies to be discarded. However front desk said it was mandatory for the cardholder photocopy be kept on file for 5 or more years. They had made copies of all of our IDs together...when I asked why it had to be maintained on file so long no direct answer could be given.

Yelp
Purchased 2 nights at this hotel through hotels.com and upon arrival realized our room was facing noisy collins the bathroom was gross and the bed though advertised to us as a queen is a full. The staff here was unwilling to give us back our money for the 2nd night as we decided to book a hotel room elsewhere. So honestly for that simple reason alone they get 1 star. As someone who has worked in the service industry my entire working life, it's not the norm to charge someone whom, with in less than 24 hours of a booking, wants to change it or cancel. Especially if that customer is giving you legitimate reasons to not stay, like, "this hotel is loud." Another user said this is just a fancy motel and I have to agree. I can't wait to go to my new hotel "tomorrow"

Yelp
Here's the skinny... Check-in was quick and easy. In addition to the room, you pay a $16 Resort Fee and if you choose to park on the premises, you pay $29 to park. Wifi is free, they offer a free breakfast but you must leave a tip and the free drinks are really a dollar a drink and you can't order whatever you want, it's $15 for a regular drink. The walls in the suites are paper thin, you'll hear everything outside and everyone surrounding you. My room was clean, physical appearances were good, you walk in the living room area and then the dinning room, kitchen and bedroom are all separate living areas, like a one bedroom apartment. It's very bright in the bedroom, the shades don't cover the sunlight from coming in. Sounds like it was raining all day but it's not. Thought we would be close enough to South Beach but far enough to avoid too much noise but that wasn't the case. Definitely not as loud as staying on Ocean Drive but still expect it to be loud, even on weeknights. All and all I was happy with my room and the condition of the hotel, I would stay here again if I was with my BFFs but next time I come with family, we'll stay farther away from the beach or in a hotel that has multiple floors so that we're not floor level to hear action in the street. This hotel partners with another hotel down the street and that hotel looks very nice, probably more my speed. You can use the pool area and that is much nicer and cleaner than this hotel. All the staff here was Latina and they were all very nice and accommodating to me and my sons. Thankful for that!

Yelp
The location is pretty good. There were more downsides than upsides. My hopes were up, as we got an early check in. We traveled all morning and just wanted to rest. Once we checked in, we were placed on the ground level floor facing Collins Ave. (big mistake) The rooms next to us were undergoing massive overhaul and construction (It would have helped if the front desk advised us about this prior to giving us our keys) Basically, our afternoon nap didn't happen. Constant drilling, hammering and jack-hammering. There construction workers talking loudly and yelling. It was uninhabitable. Once that stopped, there was another kind of jack-hammering going on in the next room, and this was NOT the construction type. The paper thin walls allowed us to hear everything in the other room. About the room.... nothing short of expectations for a last minute cheap rate. You get what You pay for. 2 beds, small bathroom with a toilet that is running water loudly all night long. Between that, and the traffic and horns honking throughout the night, maybe at best we had 3 hours of sleep. Other than all that, friendly staff at the front desk. A decent Happy Hour ($1 tip for every *FREE* drink) We probably won't be back to this Hotel, but for a last minute 'sure why not kind of place' it did the job.

Yelp
Not sure if we were unlucky with our room placement however it was an awful experience staying at this hotel. The room was not aesthetically appealing. The room had a very stale smell to it. The sheets were questionably washed. I literally slept with an extra layer of clothes to minimize my skin- sheet exposure. The built in conditioner was rustic, extremely loud, impossible to sleep!! Bathroom _ wore my flip flops into it. Gross We checked in after a long flight at 1am so I was way too tired to complain. Sucked it up and moved on yet completely mentally damaged after this hotel experience. Never again, stay away!!!! Not sure why I am even giving this place a second star.

Yelp
stayed here years ago and it's even worse now....they had bed bugs, they had doors that strangers can look into your bedroom from the hallway, and broken bed with major stains that is unmentionable. oh and they let hookers and drug dealers just hang around and use the room for an hour. DIsgusting!

Yelp
I stayed here with my Mom in the middle of November. I was honestly appalled at the customer service. Mauricio is the rudest front desk rep I have ever encountered. The rooms are gross and outdated. I didn't even want to walk in the room without socks on. Our sheets were not changed in the 5 days we were there. CC, in the bar downstairs will overcharge you and calls herself a hustler so check your bill. During the happy hour, she gets 1.00 service charge per drink plus an added gratuity. Melissa, however, is fantastic. She is the only good thing about this place. Save your money on their breakfast. It's garbage. Walk down Collins or Ocean and you'll find many better breakfast places. Only one cardio machine works in the gym and everything is rusty. Kind of awkward when you're going to workout and there is a line of random people in the "gym" waiting to use the shower, and staring at you. Want to know the best part? My mom got bed bug bites and we showed the front desk who blew her off at first but when showed the bites said "oh my god" and called an exterminator right after. We showed him the feces on the mattress. They said there wasn't any in English but amongst themselves in Spanish, it was pretty clear. I would never in my life stay here again. Btw, parking is 30.00 per night, and resort fee is 17.00 per night.

Yelp
Yay! My hotel didn't suck! For once, the folks on tripadvisor.com were totally wrong. The Dorchester was a great find, with an awesome location (one block from the beach, and one from the convention center!) and very reasonable rates. The room was large, with nice laminate flooring in a dark wood tone. The bathroom was nothing special, but at least it wasn't from 1962. The pool is really nice, with a bar, super comfy loungers and ambient trance playing (until 3am!!) They also offer a breakfast buffet in the mornings, and I totally recommend it. The hash browns are the tastiest I've ever had.
google avatar

CC B.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 nights and overall I was pleased with my stay. The only reason I gave them 4 stars is because I've never stayed at a hotel that didn't have a mini fridge or microwave in the room. I'm notorious for bringing leftovers back to my room so this was my only disappointment. It's very close to the beach and there were a lot of things in walking distance. The bathroom was a tad small but it was just me so I was fine. I would definitely stay here again.

Cynira F.

Yelp
Cute on the outside but our room had bugs and smelled terribly of mold. I got sick and we called and asked to change rooms and they said they could only have us talk to the manager the next Day. Too late I got sick. I get very little vacation time a year and it was wasted here. Don't stay here. Don't get fooled by the cute exterior

Yelp
Well its all about location when you stay in Miami but its not always about the quality and comfort. Is it possible to stay in Miami for less then $200 per night? i think not, case in point Dorchester Hotel. From Expedia and Orbitz picture hotel looked very appealing, stylish, remodeled and only a block or two from the beach. In reality it wasn't all that. In a nutshell, this hotel has gone thru very budget upgrades to make it look nicer and charge a high rates. Upgrades are done in a very sloppy way. Old doors have been repainted multiple times to look like new (they certainly don't). Paint drips are all over the room. Bathroom floor was filthy. We got woken up at 8 am on Saturday by the cleaning crew having a discussion outside our window. One positive aspect was a nice and comfortable bed. I wouldn't recommend for you to stay there. Look somewhere else.

Nihilaa K.

Yelp
They rob you of your money for everything . Apart from the charge you pay on Expedia, there is extra 'resort' charge and for parking in the hotel they charge you $31 extra . And then they tell you the breakfast is not included but you will have to buy it . It's ridiculous . Once we go inside the room, we find the bathroom does not have locks . There is no place to keep your toiletries in the bathroom as well. Worst place I have ever stayed in!

Yelp
This place may be the most disgusting hotel I have ever stayed in. The people in the reception are rude, the rooms have no AC and the room I stayed in was infested with cockroaches, when I complained they said they would give me complimentary parking and not charge me hotel fee. We checked out early because I couldn't relax in such a disgusting environment and still they charged my card - for 3 nights worth of parking and all I did was stay there for 1 1/2. I called for over a week to get my money back and no one took my phone calls. DO NOT STAY HERE!!

Yelp
Stayed 3 nights at Dorchester for my first time in Miami. It easily fitted 5 guys in their suites. Very house like rooms which made it very comfortable. 1 bedroom with 2 queen size beds. Huge living room with a pull out sofa bed and a big comfy chair. Bathroom was on the small size with hot water barely running on the first night...that was the biggest downfall of the whole hotel. Cleaning maids did a beautiful job so that was great. The hotel did have a pool but didn't go in. I did see a lot of people sunbathe tho! The hotel bar was pretty chill and the bartenders were awesome! Happy Hour started at 7pm and it consisted of the $1 rum and cokes!! We drank that all night till we left for the clubs. Need to save a lot because Miami's nightlife is super expensive! Would I come back? I Would. :) (just fix that hot water problem!!)

Yelp
I am actually quite surprised at the bad reviews - stayed for 3 nights in mid-January and got a cute third floor queen size room with a balcony. And it was great - the room was clean, sheets and towels were changed daily. Wasn't too noisy at all actually even with the bar open late and music blasting... Parking fee was a bit of a let down, especially when there were no spots late night.. but the beach passes were a nice addition. Would definitely stay again, the fares were cheap and the location is fabulous too!

Yelp
I had to go to the Japanese Consulate in Miami so I decided to stay overnight in South Beach. The location is great. You can walk to all the main attractions in South Beach. The room is not spacious like you think it is by looking at their website. I hated the bathroom too. The water pressure level was so low and they were very old. They reuse the amenity so much that bottles of shampoo and etc. were all nasty. The parking is $27 overnight so we decided to park at one of the public garages they have around the corner but the front desk definitely did not like the idea. On top of all that, we could not sleep at night because their emergency exit door was broken and it was a very windy night. So the door slamed on the wall every five seconds and made ridiculously loud noise. We complained the next morning and got a discount. I should have looked at yelp when I was choosing a hotel. Instead I was searching on google where this place got 4-star.

Yelp
Stayed here for two nights and had an excellent stay. I had a last minute trip to Miami and was able to book a room here the day I flew out. Unfortunately I could only get two nights but wish I could have done more. The location is great as it's right on Collins and just a short walk from the beach. You get two chairs and an umbrella right on the beach too which was super nice to relax and enjoy the warm Miami weather. It's located close to Lincoln so you can get some shopping in as well. There's lots of restaurants close by as well! The room was very large with an incredibly comfortable bed! Everything was sparkling clean and organized and the design was very neat and clean. The hotel itself has beautiful design. There was a beautiful little water fountain outside our room and it was gorgeous. The lobby was very cold but I supposed when in Miami the interior might be cold. The staff was very kind and very helpful. They even held our luggage after we checked out so we could go to the beach. I had a great stay here and if I come to Miami again I will definitely be staying here again. Oh also make sure to lie on the swinging bed, it's so relaxing and comfortable!

Yelp
I highly recommend nobody stays at this hotel. We got a room online at their website. The room pictures did not match the room we were in. We paid $399 per night. The room was no better than a Motel 6. Admittedly the bed was clean and the overall room was clean. However the air-conditioning smelled musty from the wall unit. They were gaps in the window trim. Which Alllwed heat and cold and it also allowed for a lot of noise from the street. When taking a shower the drain would not drain water. So by the end of the shower the tub was nearly full of murky dirty water not able to drain. The staff seemed unenthusiastic to help in anyway. It would be the lastI would send my enemy to stay at night. To stay in a hotel at $400 a night I want something at least a little bit luxurious. Also the bar drinks at night for simple vodka with $17. Don't ever stay here.

Yelp
I traveled to Miami for the holidays and stayed at this location on the beach. Carlos the Bellman and Maria at the front desk are amazing and made the stay comfortable. The service could be brushed up on but overall I enjoyed my stay--- the problem started in the little bar area adjacent to the hotel courtyard. I was given some drink coupons upon check-in to redeem at the bar. Before we went to dinner we stopped at the hotel bar to have a couple drinks before heading to the restaurant. The plan was to order one and use the card for the complementary drink. The employee, I cannot say she's a bartender because she said she wasn't, had a great attitude. She mentioned she had just started that day and was on a trial period. She wasn't trained to make drinks-- she didn't even know how to open a beer bottle ( this is a true statement) . We had the first drink, paid for it and asked to redeem the two free drinks given at check-in. The bartender let us know we couldn't use them since there was a time limit 6pm-7pm. I wasn't aware there was a time frame for which to use the coupon. I asked her if she could make an exception since they were closed for the Jewish holiday ( the whole weekend). The bartender didn't know the computer system and called this lady over to assist her with the computer issues. The lady overheard me asking to use the coupon and snapped back in an aggressive tone telling me to stop harassing her. I was completely offended, my friend and dining partner let her know she was wrong. The lady proceeded to have a vile tone which caused my friend to react, letting her know she was in the service industry. I later found out that the girls name was actually Melissa and she was the bartender at the hotel. I shared my experience with the staff at the hotel and mentioned she was a huge liability. She was extremely rude and had an unpleasant demeanor which is not what one would accept in the service field. I was told this is an ongoing issue with the hotel and nothing has been done to correct this as she's friends with the owner. This girl is the death of the hotel. I could care less if she is friends with the owner. You don't know who's staying at your hotel or whether or not they're high level business decision makers that could be scouting the location for future business. . The next day I happen to be at the front desk getting a new key and Melissa the blonde problem bartender saw that we were at the front desk, she exited the elevator and gave us a scowling look and the eyes rolled as if she as annoyed at our presence. Before going into entertainment my background was hospitality managment. Service is everything to me and it should be with this business. I cannot recommend this hotel nor the bar area as they must improve the customer service with all staff. Employees make or break your business and this bartender has done just that. I'm not here to tell folks how to run a business- one day they will understand and get it right. Their other property is far superior to this one. The Dorchester carries a name of a famous hotel which is why I selected this hotel. I thought they were connected but I was sadly mistaken. The SOBE hotel Dorchester could be a wonderful place if they take the time to train staff on Verbal and Non-verbal communication, superior service standards and some upgrade

Yelp
Don't spoil your vacation by staying at this hotel. The receptionist is very rude. She actually answered the phone when I asked about parking. She then told me that parking was $29 but was sold out of parking passes. So guest staying at hotel had to park somewhere else. I found parking about a half a mile down the street for $16 a day no free ins and out. Then had to walk bsck to hotel. Wow. Also when I was checking out I went to get my car pulled into the parking lot and before I could get back to my car with my luggage the hotel put a tow away ticket on my car. In addition, they never stated there was a resort fee for staying at hotel each day and never stated I was able to get free lounge chairs and umbrella at the beach. Please do not stay here I am giving you a warning so you can enjoy your vacation.

Yelp
Once again I vacationed in Miami and was fortunate enough to book a room at Dorchester Hotel . Thid is the second time within a few months . This is like my home away from home . The front desk staff is friendly , curtious and efficient. Julian is very hospitable and welcoming. He really makes sure you enjoy your stay !The rooms are clean and spacious . The lobby is as well . The Dorchester is budget friendly and a fine place to stay when vacationing in beautiful Miami !!! Thanks again Julian for making our stay memorable as always !

Yelp
The rooms were clean and we had AC. My complaint is the resort fee that they charge. It's not a resort so not sure why we paid the fee. The hotel is convenient and close to everything. The had a happy hour from 7-8 but only had one drink-rum and juice for a dollar. The only real complaint I have is people are smoking pot and the aroma went into our room and had a very odiferous smell.
google avatar

Yelp
The Dorchester is a great boutique hotel option in South Beach. You really get your bang for your buck here... free happy hour from 7-8pm every day, newly renovated rooms, a decent pool, a hotel bar and $15 breakfast buffet. Not to mention... the great location! We were in walking distance slash cheap cab of all the restaurants/bars/clubs/lounges that we frequented throughout our visit. Why didn't it get 4-5 stars? Here's why... 1. they promised NO construction and ugh there was construction right next door. all day on Thursday/Friday at the pool. ewie. 2. our fuse blew out (oops. 2 girls blow drying hair is a no-go) and it took them FORTY-FIVE (45) minutes to flip the switch. REALLY? we had dinner resvs to get to, people! so yeah, it's our fault we blew it, but please make it a higher priority to flip the dang switch. Otherwise, our visit was smooth. Good hospitality, nice staff, beds are comfy, rooms are nice... Until I can afford the Delano, I'll be staying at the Dorchester Hotel... baby steps, my friend.

Yelp
05.14.11-05.17.11 + Great location. Walking distance to the beach and Lincoln Ave. $5-10 cab rides to the hottest nightclubs on Washington. + Suites are quite sizable, like a one-bedroom apartment, complete with living room, dining room, and kitchen areas. Working fridge and microwave doesn't hurt, either. And that's where the positives stop. We had to change rooms, three times. The first room's toilet didn't flush properly, there was hair on the towels. Worst of all, there was a COCKROACH in the bedroom. We had to call someone to kill it. And I was not comfortable sleeping there. They informed me that they're booked solid and that we cannot move rooms. I did not have a manager to speak to. We came back around 4:00 a.m. that day after going to Mansion to play. After the rude, rude encounter with the night shift person (who was more concerned about the fact that there was no one else working with him than our room cleanliness and safety), he switched us to another suite - the room was released after no one has checked in after 4:00 a.m. We dragged all our luggage into room two. It was a king bed (versus two doubles), so we knew we had to switch again the next morning. I finally got to speak to the manager the next morning, who was apologetic, but a bit belittling because apparently we weren't supposed to have a suite to begin with. Whatever, why did you give it to us, then? All I want was a clean room to sleep in...didn't realize that it was a difficult task. By day two afternoon we finally settled into our third room. The rest of the trip (the hotel part, anyhow) was relatively calm. The interaction with the staff members just left a sour taste in our mouths. No, no, no.

Yelp
This hotel was ok i will not stay here again however if i am ever in Miami. Our air conditioner went out the first night, when we call to the front desk the lady told us she would call for service the next day (really is this how you treat your guests when you have other rooms available) we shouldnt have to demand a new room that should have been offered initially. The rooms were clean, i am just really disappointed in the service provided by the front desk.
google avatar

Renee B.

Yelp
The pictures on their website are highly deceiving. I've stayed at boutique hotels, and their claim of this hotel having a "multi-million dollar renovation" sounds very unlikely to me. This hotel was more like a two star hotel when I stepped inside. The room was small and seemed to barely fit the two double beds inside. The bathroom is in dire need of renovation if it wants to fit in that "boutique" mode. The location of the desk is awkwardly too close to the entrance of the room. I also didn't like the attitude of the staff there when I inquired about their free WiFi. When I asked about it, they said the signal is too weak to get into the rooms but sometimes it works well at 4 AM and they offered to give me a wake-up call at 4 AM to remind me of that. What the f*** kind of answer is that? I didn't even give them any kind of look on my face to make it seem like it was ok to joke around with me. I was serious about getting that WiFi. Seriously, if you're going to advertise having WiFi, be more specific about it. I don't have much interest in visiting Miami Beach again, but if I did, I certainly wouldn't stay here again even if it's for dirt cheap.

Yelp
The only reason why this hotel earns two stars is that the price -considering the trendy location- was OK for what we got. Be prepared to adjust your expectations when you go there. Friends of ours stayed at the Marseilles next door (sister property) with -compared to us - high expectations and got terribly dissappointed. We saw the Marseilles room too and it was not a lot better than ours for 50% more of the price per night. For the price we paid and the reviews i read, my expecations were very low, but then the cab driver dropped us of in front the DORSET (wrong hotel) and looking at it from the outside, we were pleasantly surprised, not realizing that it was not our hotel :-) So just a block down the road we find the DORCHESTER: ** When we arrived they did not find our reservation, even when we left three days later, our travelocity reservation was not in their system yet. But nevertheless they had a room they gave us. ** Our phone did not work and we asked them every single day to fix it during our 3 night stay. But nobody fixed it. ** We wanted to rent a car for sunday, but surprise surprise - WiFi did not work in our room either. The staff did not make any attempt to fix that. ** The receptionist offered to help us get a car for sunday morning, so we trusted her and postponed the car search to the next day. What she really meant by "helping" us was to call THEIR car rental service to find out at 8.30 am in the morning that it is still closed. GREAT. So she advises us to go to 23rd street cause we would find 3 car rental companies there. Of course we do not find 3 car rentals. Only one. And that one did not have a car for us. So we return to the hotel by 9.30, pissed and without a car and i ask the receptionist if i can call some car rentals from the hotel lobby. "No" she says "you can use the phone in your room". HAHA. VERY FUNNY. If somebody had fixed it, i would have probably used it already." Probably i should try to reserve a car online with the great wireless service you provide? ** Don t go for the full breakfast buffet, it is not worth it. Rather go to Catalinas next door, their breakfast and ambiente is excellent! ** Air condition in our room was only a small device in the wall that did not really help to get rid of the humidity in the room. So it happened that wet towels were still wet the next morning. Also, the bed cover always felt kind of wet, which should not be the case if the air condition works properly. ** Our Queen bed had the size of a double - They promised to give us a King room the next morning, but this also did not happen. ** The second night we woke up 4 am in the morning cause some of our neighbours decided to party on... So the walls are not really sound-proof if you love to have a good night sleep :-) As bad as it probably might sound right now, the hotel is not a "un-acceptable" place. It is ok for a budget weekend in South Beach if your expecations are accordingly low. And there are in fact better things to do than hanging out in a hotel room when you spend a weekend in South Beach, ;-). That was the reason why we looked for something basic. The only nice things were the interior of the lobby, the pool, the pool bar and the fact that the Marseilles also sucked. So we spent at least less money for a similar experience. But seriously guys: Even though I did not expect any luxury for a 115 bucks, just some competent and friendly faces from the staff members would have been enough for me to recommend it and come back. Thats the basics.

Yelp
For being a "boutique hotel" it was pretty nice. Alex at the front desk was very helpful and turned us on to an awesome Argentine steakhouse around the corner. The room was clean I saw them cleaning the pool in the morning. They seem to be updating their rooms so ask to look at your room first. We stayed 3 nights and had no real issues. Nice breakfast buffet, walking distance to the beach, worth the money. We would definately stay here again.

Yelp
I am definitely a fan of this hotel. Since it is affiliated with the Marseilles Deco Beach Hotel, we had access to the beach & free lounge chairs & umbrella. We checked in around 10-11pm, the receptionist was not to pretty friendly. We didn't get bell hop service which I noticed was available to guests that checked in during the day. Upon check in we were told that a $50 hold would be put on the card. They actually charged the full amount. In the end the amount was planned for so its not a big deal but the receptionist should have been honest about the amount charged on the card. The only other incident we had was with the maid assigned to clean our room. Her lack of the English language made it almost impossible to communicate with her! Our first encounter with her she accused us of stealing her room key after she left our room door wide open. On another occasion she came to clean while we were still in the room, we asked her for extra towels which she provided, when we left the room she got upset when we put the maid service tag on the door. claiming she didn't want to clean our room since we had already gotten our service when she gave us towels. Other than the annoying maid the stay was overall great. The beds extra comfy the air conditioner freezing. The bartender we meet on our first night there was extremely nice & friendly. We had great conversation with him. I would definitely stay at the Dorchester again & just hope for a different cleaning lady.

Yelp
It's a place to sleep. I got this on Priceline, and my expectations went way down as I read the reviews here. Room was ok. It's good if you're a deep sleeper and only sleep between about 11 pm-7 am. Try not to get the first floor. You get all the noise from the lobby, hallways, street level, and in the next room. The housekeeping staff is also pretty loud in the mornings talking and cleaning rooms. I heard Spanish music playing one morning, which I can only guess was from the housekeeping staff trying to keep themselves entertained. What? Guests trying to sleep in on their vacations? Nooo..... Let's not mention the loud construction that I heard the last day as workers knocked down something in the next room either next door or upstairs. There was no advance notice either. The only good things were the lobby and outdoor areas. The pool area and beach access at their sister property the Marseilles was also nice, though the interior of the hotel was pretty run-down as someone else noted.

Yelp
I was a little reluctant to stay here based on some of the reviews, but had a great experience staying here. This hotel is about as good a bang for your buck as you can get in South Beach. If you're staying in this area, you have to know that everything is insanely expensive and you are NOT going to get the plush spa/resort experience if you want to spend $200 tops a night on a hotel. This should not surprise anyone but apparently does anyway. That being said, I think that for the price, this hotel was an amazing value and I was really impressed with the staff. Everyone I encountered who worked here was very friendly and willingly helpful, and went out of their way at every opportunity to make sure my stay was enjoyable. My room was very nice and clean - there were certainly things that could have been renovated or updated for a better aesthetic appearance (bathroom tiles and little things like that), but everything was very clean and worked perfectly so who cares? The bed was very comfortable, the pillows were nice, and everything was in very good working condition. The location is absolutely prime but it was a little noisy at night, but much like the high prices of literally everything here, that's something you should expect if you're staying in South Beach. Overall I would definitely stay here again and would recommend this to friends as an affordable, good place to stay. Also, about the cockroaches mentioned in other reviews - this is the south. Cockroaches are everywhere! I didn't see any my entire stay, but it kind of just comes with the territory. Unless you hire a 24/7 cockroach hunter you're gonna have roaches. Doesn't matter if it's the ritz or a motel. Just how it is.

Yelp
Needed a hotel last minute in Miami and didn't want to pay an arm & a leg. Found this on hotels.com and must say that my entire family was very happy with this place! And let me tell you, it's not easy at all the please all of them! We checked in late on Sunday night and were told that happy hour was going on at the bar until 8pm. We checked into the room, which was really big! Had it's own separate kitchen, dining & living room area. The beds were pretty comfortable and there was a pull out couch which was nice. My only complaint of the room was the bathroom was awful, very small and dirty. And the walls were very thin, so we could hear the people running upstairs. All in all this place was great, you can get lounge chairs on the beach which is just a short walk away.

Yelp
My husband and I have just stayed at the Dorchester 8/14-8/18. First I will say we travel a good amount and we are not super picky, but we like good service and appreciate nice things. This is not a fancy top notch place, yet still pricy like everything in south beach. Check-in fast, no issues with staff all nice. The hotel looked ok, lobby was ok had an old mildew smell though. Pool needs an update as does the hotel in general, the room we were given was again "ok" super small bathroom, the queen bed was terrible, long story short we ended up getting the junior suite it cost me $180 more, but the room was excellent! Beautiful, smelled great, comfy king bed, great A/C, bathroom still small but bigger than the standard room. Upgrading our room and paying more is what made our experience better. No issues being on the first floor as other reviews mention. This hotel is not recommended for young travelers my hubby and I are in our 20s and we like a good time, we saw so many more hotels walking down south beach that had music at the pool and seemed more fun. Our pool was quiet, and it was very dirty at night. If you want a hype hotel this is not it. Hotel is just ok overall, junior suite was wonderful.

Yelp
Once again, not the worse hotel but definitely not the best. It is one of those thing where you get what you pay for. This place is okay because it is right near the beach, the shops, and some night life but on the flip side the rooms do not cool you down to well. My room in particular was infested with mosquitoes in the ceiling light, they did not provide me with a fridge as advertised when booking, not too mention that the phone broke down after the 5th or 6th day there. So for the budget it was okay but go a lil more expensive if you want quality.

Yelp
I was reluctant to stay at hotel due to the numerous bad reviews. I'm glad I stayed, it is much nicer than I expected!

Yelp
For the price this place was awesome! Such friendly helpful staff, my room was ready way early. They give you access to the amazing pool and if you go to the beach you get 2 chairs and an umbrella on the hotel! And happy hour drink tickets.I loved this place. The room was comfy, clean, the a/c was nice and cold the bed was amazingly comfy! I stayed for 1 night before heading to a ritzy expensive hotel for my works company party and I have to say my stay at the Dorchester was better than the more expensive overpriced hotel I had the 2nd night. Also, this hotel's location is right on South Beath and close to everything! I will stay here again!

Yelp
Located very close to beach & Lincoln Road. Many restaurants and clubs are a short walk away. Hotel is clean with basic amenities. If you're high maintenance , you'll be disappointed. Rooms are well- equipped with fridge, iron and nice tv. Bathrooms could use an upgrade- a fresh grout job could do the trick. Outdoor veranda is no fuss and quiet. Staff was congenial. There is a small, unassuming cafeteria with seating for breakfast. Guests get a complimentary free happy hour, which is nice.

Yelp
We stayed here for one night and it was as expected. We were close to everything and the hotel is affordable. Our room was clean. Yes, the hotel is older but I found it be fine, as someone who's stayed in lots of hotels and hostels I'm the US and abroad. There was some street level noise that we heard but it's Miami and we were on vacation so who cares!

Yelp
The hotel had a nice scent and pleasant staff. The worst part of my stay was the fact that I didn't feel the rooms were clean. My bed skirt had a white stain and the walls were birth with finger prints or something. Just not clean at all.

Yelp
Our 3 day stay here was pleasant. It is convenient walking distance to much of Miami Beach. The room was pleasantly updated with nice furniture and an A/C that almost worked too well! Parking was never full, and very convenient to the front door of the hotel. The maids did an excellent job of cleaning the room each day. Even though the beach is across the street, it was no big deal, and they were ready to prepare beach chairs for us and offer us drinks. We did not use the pool, it looked OK. We also did not eat breakfast there, but it also looked to be OK. There is nothing special about this hotel. We stayed there because it was a less expensive option and we were in MB with a larger group for a wedding. I will say that upon arrival while we waited to check in it was a bit intimidating as the two groups in front of us had their reservations jacked up (by their travel agent, not the hotel) and it was a dramatic scene as they tried to sort it out with the hotel staff in a flurry of high volume Spanish, Arabic, and a couple other languages we did not recognize. Our reservation was ok, but they were oddly strict that I go over to the lobby computer and actually print out my confirmation page for our reservation. Overall, it was an adequate option, just not the upscale, flashy, brand new look I'd expect from a hotel on the strip.

Yelp
I have stayed here twice for business trips, mainly because this hotel is just two short blocks from the convention center. The desk staff was quite pleasant and on my last stay the desk clerk even called my room shortly after we checked in to make sure everything was okay. Had no problem with the free wifi. Our room was clean but could have used a few minor amenities like a coffee maker, a local phone book or even a waste can in the room (only one was in bathroom). But because my job has paid for both of my stays, I can overlook these small issues. Two things to avoid: 1. Breakfast at the Dorchester Cafe. Food is mediocre amd way overpriced. You are better off going to the Walgreens drug store a couple blocks south where they sell fresh hot croissants, pastries, empanadas and bread for much less. 2. Drinks at the Club 1850 bar. A small lime and rum concoction in a plastic cup cost $14 each. There is a daily happy hour between 7 and 8 PM when they serve small watered down cocktails (mainly vodka and cranberry juice) for one dollar.

Yelp
so.. upon arriving its a hotel that sits right on the end of the strip of miami. its definitely somewhere to lay your head for the night, not for the week. i would keep expectations very low. They definitely need an upgrade on room decor and hallway decor as well. They have an aging smell outside the rooms, and theres a band that plays at night and because the room walls are paper thin you can hear the band AND your neighbors whole conversation all in one. The iron was broken upon checking in and the bathrooms were dated, rusty, and the size of a towel closet. it was convenient for us because we were staying for the night and were gonna do a lot of walking so thats just what it was.. convenient.

Yelp
So far I'm having a terrible time here! My cousin and I just landed and already we are facing rude people at the front desk. We are also still waiting to get checked in I'll update this when I finally get to check in but so far no good

Yelp
Clean facility. Pool doesn't get that much sunlight, but they offer you access to their sister hotel, up the block and across the street (absolutely an easy walk) called The Marseilles Hotel. The pool at the Marseilles is smaller, and the sun only hits one side, but it's quiet and has direct access to the beach as well. I stayed at the Dorchester at the end of Feb 2013 w/ two girlfriends. It was a great experience. We used the Dorchester pool for night swimming and the Marseilles pool or the beach for daytime. There is no drink or food service given by the pool so bring your own. There is a menu, but no one walks around or anything to take your order, so it'll be worth your money to just BYOB. Happy Hour is from 7-8pm and they offer a "specialty drink" for the hour (ie: Rum and Coke, Vodka/ Cran) all you have to do is tip. Drinks are made fairly. Room service is quick and easy, so was Check-In and Check-Out. Late Check-Out is available til 1pm, latest.

Yelp
I do not love Hotels but I love the Dorchester Miami. First off it has an unbelievable large warm pool. The standard rooms have wood floors with a refrigerator and safe in each room. The sink in bathroom has a unique faucet with a bathtub and pulsating shower. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. They have a free happy hour from 7p-8p. First drink of the night is $1. The cafe for breakfast is open from 7am-1130am with a full buffet for $14.99. The property has a fitness center and free wifi. And best for last; free 2 chairs and umbrella at their sister hotel Marcellis 2 blocks away. Will be coming back here monthly. Best stay vacation around.
