Dorfkrug Volksdorf | Restaurant & Sushi

We are on a road trip from Sweden to Italy / and were recommended the Dorfkrug for dinner: beautiful barn-style setting with classy interiors, lovely garden for outdoor meals. A balanced menu - pricing is ok for the quality you get. The sushi portions, although, are a bit on the small side. We had a perfect dinner, - the staff are are helpful, friendly and professional 👍

Beautiful exterior, on arrival service staff rather manic and Disorganised . Generally felt very rush with interaction. Sat down and then told that was the wrong table, had to move. Then sat and they did not have enough food menu for everyone. Waited 70mins for mains to arrive as did not order starters. Was so long that wine bottle finished. The beef rump was average- meat quality was ok, over cooked. More medium, the onion on top was good and the sauce very much like intense consoume of beef stock. The noddles was ok. Beef tartar was the better dish, fresh, tasted excellent and nice salad Ambience was felt to be poor; first impression a nice rustic interior but presented itself some issues: very dark-Older folk had difficulty seeing the menu, noisy-Had difficulty hearing each other speak . The manic rush of the service affected table seating near the bar made the atmosphere very much a poor experience . Was considering coming back for Christmas but as had a poor experience, decided to cancel.

The worst experience in Germany so far. I ordered a plate with mushrooms and fish. The plate came without the mushrooms, I asked and they brought me. Until there, was ok, until we ordered the bill, a man waitress came with it and asked me if everything was good. I said was ok but did not feel well to order a plate with a main ingredient missing on it. He explain the situation (there are two types of plate and it was a misunderstanding), I said fine, then he touched my back twice and said “don’t worry, we will not charge that for you”. Me and my partner were very uncomfortable, it was a shame! a waitress cannot touch a client. Surely if I was a man saying it, he wouldn’t dare to touch him, but as I am a woman, he felt in his right to do it. Horrible, never come back, for sure.

My wife and I had an outstanding evening yesterday at the Dorfkrug Volksdorf. Everything was simply perfect. The food was outstanding in every respect, i.e. creative, very tasty and refined. The staff was super polite, friendly and charming and made us feel very much at home. And this is true for every single person we met there. And then finally, the ambience was equally outstanding. We really felt very much at home in a cosy and equally elegant environment. It was simply one of the best evenings we have had in a long time. We can recommend it to everyone who is willing to spend a bit more on food and who want to have a special experience. From our perspective, it is one of the best restaurants in Hamburg.

Nice restaurant and food but was charged for 2 desserts we didn't order and found out after we paid. Was refunded after we bought it to their attention. So a little disappointed.

Great food! Changing menues, local and seasonal based products in use. Price-performance ratio, perfect 👌 Huge selection of vines. Super ambiance, lovely servants!

The location and setting was magical. We went here for dinner on a whim quickly before a trip to Miniatur Wunderland. I had no idea it was a Michelin rated restaurant until we arrived and knew we were in for a treat and thanked the Yelp gods for getting us here serendipitously. We were seated outside and could enjoy the beautiful Volksdorf setting on an uncharacteristically warm September evening. The service was quick, attentive, and very inviting and respectful. The food came out right away. All of the dishes - from the bread and butter to the spaetzle to even the latte - were outstanding. Everything was well worth it. Can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

Had dinner here with a friend last night. I was pleasantly surprised by the food and the menu. I was expecting far more of a local, village joint. This is definitely a higher-end place that isn't pretentious or off-putting trying to be gourmet. It's very rustical yet at the same time modern. The staff is young and there is nothing stuffy about it. The food is well prepared and creative. I had a daily special as a starter and then a fish as the main course. My buddy had a salad to start and the gnocchi which he raved about. I really enjoyed my meal and found the accompanying wine just as good. Someone else complained about the portions and pricing in another review. I do have to agree that portions are on the smaller side and pricing is definitely at the higher end of the spectrum. I don't feel that the place is a rip-off or anything along those lines though nevertheless. It's not true gourmet eating but it's also not your every day, stop in for a bite place. If you come with those expectations, and knowing the area, you won't be blown away by the price. We had starters, mains, two glasses of wine each, two bottles or water and two espressos to complete the meal. Total cost was a touch over 100 Euro which is totally fine in my opinion for the quality of food, quaintness of the location and polite, professional service. I'm definitely coming back with the wife. I do recommend reserving, as once there is no longer outdoor seating or the weather turns, there aren't all too many tables inside and the place seems quite popular. There's also no parking on site so you had to search around on the street a bit but it's always easy enough to find something without walking all too far.

Don't expect a plate big enough for a meal. The menu items are very expensive for very little food. The meal was very delicious but too expensive.
