The Best Doughnuts in New Orleans | Eater New Orleans

"New Orleans is lucky to have a plethora of family-owned grocery stores, and Dorignac’s is the cream of the crop — great liquor prices, helpful staff, and amazing doughnuts. Afficiandos rave about the plain glaze and chocolate-covered sprinkle, but the chocolate glaze is tough to beat." - Eater Staff

Skylar did the flowers for my wedding and I could not recommend her enough! She followed up with me throughout the whole process to make sure everything was right and everything came out better than I could have imagined!! Highly recommend and a lot more affordable than most florist.

I discovered this grocery store in Metairie, Louisiana when I was working on a movie. It's on the main street and I pulled into the parking lot. Lot of cars means it's popular. The aisles were clean and the shelves were neatly stocked. I was amazed at the variety of local products that's available. I could spend hours just looking around. Employees were all friendly and welcoming. Being from Hawaii I appreciate your Southern hospitality. Aloha and Mahalo until we meet again.

Google
Excellent grocery items. Best meat department around. Shelves constantly being filled. Cashiers are quick and efficient. And, they play the best music at all times, except Saints games.!! Top Notch

Delicious. Delicious. Delicious. Donuts, Hot single serve options and fast svc. All employees so cordial and pleasant especially check out staff. Grew up going to Dorignac and drive from Baton Rouge regularly. Love it!

Does family-owned grocery store has been around for over 75 years. If there is anything offered in a grocery store you are likely to find it here. There seems to be an extensive product line on the shelves. The prepared food sections are quite good. There is a little Bakery in the front of the store. They have a large spirits, beer and wine selection. The best experience the wife and I ever had there was when they celebrated their 70th anniversary. It was a huge wine tasting and sampling of their freshly prepared items. That was a great party and date night!

Google
I love this store. They have so much variety with their stock. Their cheese selection is great. They have a really nice meat and poultry area. The store is clean, and the employees are really nice.

Google
I like this grocery store. One stop shopping. They sell, beer, whiskey, wine, vodka, tequila. They also sell sushi, they cater parties and events. They sell flowers. I have been going here since the early 1970's. They have a deli, very good. It's kind of like a Reason on steroids. If you are in this area and need groceries. I recommend giving them a try.

Google
Probably my favorite grocery store in the city. Bakery is phenomenal. Hot food is delicious. Fresh produce and quality meats. Even a nice floral dept. I’m there at least once a week!

Yelp
This is an amazing local Italian grocery, bakery & deli. It is THE place to shop when you're in NOLA. Family owned & operated since 1947. There are so many amazing things about this place there isn't enough room in this review to list them all, so i'm just going to list my faves. THE only place to go for bone in Veal chops. And if you want them really big & thick, order them from their in-house butcher, anyway you likes here. :)... Hard to find Italian Speciality foods all throughout the store like wagyu salami & fresh MOZ cheese. Excellent deli with sushi! Also, they carry the local yummy shrimp & green papaya salad & yummy shrimp spring rolls from "Cafe Minh" on Canal street in the grab & go section in the deli area. Check them out at:  WWW.cafeminh.com They have the most spectacular florist/roses with all our fave southern flowers in abundance daily. Their in-house bakery is Ginormous! They even carry chocolate Doberge cakes! :)... They have an incredible selection of liquors, wines & champagnes at the best prices. The best place to go for speciality celebratory european wines & champagnes in the larger sizes like the jeroboam, the imperial, the Salmanazar, the Balthazar & the Nebuchadnezzar etc. We did purchase a case of french pink champagne here for a special family gift, as we do not really drink anymore. The reason we stopped is bc many many Yelpers were just liking just the check-ins for liquor stores & alcoholic drinks so we just stopped drinking & posting about liquor. Which for us, turned out to be the greatest thing EVER! We are saving TONS of MONEY and we are so freakin skinny now we are over the MOON baby! Hahaha hahahaha hahaha hahahah. So, come here for the best deals on liquor & the best Italian speciality items. The butcher, the baker, the florist & the deli is also the BOMB. NOLA's best kept secret. Highest Recommendations!

Yelp
Every trip to New Orleans I hit up Dorignac's for Louisiana staples. Whether it be seasonings, alcohol, king cakes, sausage, crawfish, or everything in between, associates are always friendly and helpful. They are great about helping me locate what I need. I love that they still offer paper bags even though I usually bring my reusable ones.

Yelp
Best grocery shopping in Louisiana, big bakery with fresh ingredients and options. Crusty bread and Russian cake. We always get a few orders of the crawfish and meat pies, warm to go 4 small pies to an order for $2.79. Large liquor selection of wines and cocktails. Staff are helpful and well lite clean store.

Yelp
The girl working in the bakery Tuesday April 30 in the afternoon has a terrible disposition and should quit immediately. Such a miserable human being. Been shopping there for-years once a week but It will take me some time to settle down before I go back.

Yelp
I love to shop at Dorignac's. It's where we shopped when I was young. I had my first job there , bagging groceries. I recently moved back where I grew up and have been visiting the store a few times a week. They've come a long way since 1984 , when I worked there. Their meat selection and quality is top-notch , as it's always been. The employees are always kind and helpful. I often see Nicole and Jody Dorignac at the store. It's always nice when the owners are there. Nicole has REALLY stepped up their spirit selection, specifically bourbons. They have several store picks to choose from. The wine and other spirit stock is plentiful. Always fresh bread and baked goods and the cafe is a nice place to sit and grab a bite or a cup of coffee.

Yelp
I am not one that grew up in the city, but did not THAT far away... but, can I just say...I just so love Dorignac's! I love who they are, who they know they are, and what they are about! I am thankful for their brand and consistent quality products and service that they provide. Some of our faves--- their fresh produce! The deli! I love their easy meals, to take and heat.... Just sooo yummy!

Stephanie J.

Yelp
Excellent New Orleans style grocery for foodies! You can find anything you need to cook any recipe! The selection of baked goods, cheeses and to go food is wonderful! It is a treat going to this store!

Yelp
Spoke with Sebastian in catering to order a platter of chicken tenders. He was great to work with. He even helped us carry them out to the car when we picked them up. Everyone raved about how good they were. The Parmesan peppercorn sauce was really good to dip them. They were 50 large tenders and the price was much less than anywhere else.

Yelp
Dorignac's is the best grocery in New Orleans! They have a great wine selection, an they carry a lot of local brands and some local produce. Also the bakery is fantastic. The Douberge cake is mouthwatering.

Yelp
I love shopping at Dorignac's, and have for years. And while I realize times have changed, I have been very disappointed in the bakery lately. In January I ordered a doberge cake (which has always been delicious). This time the cake was stale and there was a very small amount of filling. I was embarrassed when serving it for a friend's birthday. Then just yesterday I picked up an almond with pineapple birthday cake, and again, the cake wasn't the freshest and you couldn't find the pineapple filling. The doberge cake was over $57, and I might have returned it if I hadn't already cut 7 slices for my guests. Dorignac's, your bakery has gone from delicious to very disappointing. I don't mind paying as long as it's enjoyable.

Yelp
This is a never miss spot at the border of Jefferson and Orleans Parishes. As a native of NOLA now consigned to Florida, we make a pilgrimage back to see family and friends, get our coffee with chicory and beignets in the familiar confines of the City Park "Casino" then before we depart, make our run to Veterans Blvd to Dorignac's to bring goodies and culture back with us to Tallahassee. Staples for every trip includes: multiple containers of Creole Cream Cheese, a Chocolate Doberge Cake, and Quart sized containers of Seafood Gumbo, Crawfish Bisque, or Turtle Soup, among others. This store deserves a generous aliquot of time as it is packed with all the normal selections at most grocery stores and then adds the Lagniappe of Creole and Cajun specialties to make it a one stop shop! For those inclined to visit the extensive collection of wines, beers, and distilled spirits, you will be amazed at the varieties and reasonable prices present. So with our cooler packed with all our perishables, and the trunk full of heavy duty paper grocery bags, we head back to Florida knowing that we brought back with us some glorious past and present to bathe in for awhile and dream of a future when we can once again immerse ourselves in the Culture of the Big Easy that is Dorignac's.

Yelp
Dorignac's is great for local items, local produce and liquor. They also have a wide selection of prepared foods AND a decent selection of items from local restaurants. Their staff is helpful and knowledgeable. During the pandemic, mask wearing has not been 100% amongst employees and customers. One employee was only wearing a face shield which is just frustrating to me. Another took his mask off to have a long chat with a customer. And now that Jefferson Parish has lifted the mask mandate, I probably won't be back for awhile.

Yelp
Excellent old school grocery. Excellent spirits selection and recommendations. The bakery is wonderful. Always a great selection of everything. Their produce section is consistently well stocked. Their cheese shop is superlative. They make and serve pre-made items that are so tasty and a definite guilty pleasure. I recommend Dorignac's highly.

Yelp
Love Dorignac's!! Especially the bakery section! I can always stop there and get the perfect sweet tooth satisfaction. All the staff are wonderful and super helpful if you need anything while shopping. One of favorite places to make groceries!

Yelp
Great service , great prices, friendly staff- and if you call ahead, they will put a bottle of wine and champagne in the cooler for, so it's ready when you pick it up!

Angelle S.

Yelp
I'm planning a dinner for tonight and I called to see what tenderloin filets were priced at by the lb, I just wanted to see how much I would be spending on the meal for the evening. They were very rude about it and told me they are not allowed to share that kind of information. The owner told me to come in and see it for myself. We will not be returning to buy their steaks anymore. I appreciate transparency and they are lacking it.

Eve A.

Yelp
The owners here are so rude and off putting. I've seen the husband and wife yell in the aisles in front of customers and staff. The wife tries to make face with tears in her eyes. The husband has rage issues and lashes out arrogantly at his staff AND his customers. I heard him yell at a customer "I don't need your money, you can leave." And when a mgr tried to calm him he began cussing at everyone about this is HIS store and he can talk how he wants.(it was plenty of cuss words) He made everything feel real uneasy

Yelp
Great local grocery store in Metairie. Get transported back in time at Dorignac's. Founded in 1947, this local gem still oozes with old fashioned personality, great customer service and Creole charm. Great place to pick up regional specialties, like CDM coffee, Paul Prudhomme Magic Seasoning Blends, Creole cream cheese, Louisiana pecans and Zapp's potato chips. Having a crawfish boil? They are your one stop shop for all your supplies. Other specialties include a wide selection of gourmet wines and cheeses, crawfish pies, olive loaf and a bakery that creates custom cakes. During Mardi Gras, their bakery even makes Kosher king cakes. Plenty of parking and easy to find on Veteran's Memorial Boulevard about a mile away from New Orleans.

Yelp
Good local grocery store. Lots of local products, nice people. Wonderful bakery selections.

Yelp
We have had a tough year (like many). We ordered the catered Christmas meal from Dorignac's . Everything was delicious!! They sent more than enough food for a wonderful price. Can't say enough about their service and quality. It really helped make our Christmas this year. Highly recommend !

Demi F.

Yelp
If you're looking for a job don't apply here, they have more loyalty to the customers than their own employees, but demand you have loyalty to them, the owner is rude and unprofessional, I wish I knew that before accepting this job, dodge the bullet learn from my mistake

Yelp
Why oh why have the grocery store gods not blessed Birmingham with a store like this? Well, for one, it probably wouldn't survive in the capacity it is now. It is the perfect New Orleans grocery store. If you put creole cream cheese, refrigerated turtle soup, and Chesesi boiled ham in a store in Alabama, I'm afraid I would have enough money to keep it in stock. But I damn sure would try! Anything grocery store related from my childhood trips to visit my grandparents can be found here. We have found a ton of other products I can only find here since. Even their store baked french bread is some of my favorite in the city. I could get lost here for hours, spend more money than I have, and come home with enough to fill a modest home. Unfortunately our pantry is normal-small sized. So I must limit myself. Great selection of liquor and they often have samples going during peak hours. Nothing like improving a shopping experience than a sip of 12 year scotch. The wine selection is also good. All in all, I love this store. Not only for its nostalgia, but for what it is today.

Yelp
I can't understand the stupidity exhibited by Dorignac's. As soon as the mask requirement was lifted in JP, and left up to each individual business, Dorignac's dropped their requirement. But how's this for extreme stupid? I brought a reusable bag for my groceries and was told that they couldn't bag things in bags from home. I asked 'why' and was told because of COVID and it came from home. Now think about this: where did those people without masks come from? Could it have been from HOME???

Yelp
Dorignac's is one of my favorite local grocery stores, and I know grocery stores. As a busy (crazy-busy) mom, I think I spend at least 15 minutes a day in a grocery store. Most days it's more. When I'm in Metairie on the same side of the street as Dorignac's, it's where I stop for general items. It's where I always stop for good veal. it's hard to find quality veal at the larger groceries, other than Whole Foods, where the price is a bit higher, and by a bit, I mean as high as a giraffe's ears. Dorignac's has Osso bucco and beautiful veal scallopini. Their meat case is full of great cuts of beef - steak, chops, etc. I have always loved their employees. They are super friendly and very helpful. I've never felt put off by anyone in Dorignac's. Shoot, I've even gotten help from the security guards before. Once when trying to find the ingredients to make an Old Fashioned, the security guard and the liquor manager gave me great advice concerning quality ingredients and helped me find what I needed. If you like wine, they have a great selection at very reasonable prices and they run great wine specials as well. If you get a chance, try their homemade dinner entrees. They're located near the meat department in the back of the store. My mom looooooves their crabcakes, and she's a tough customer! I can't end this review without mentioning the bakery. It's exceptional for a grocery store bakery. Just know that if you approach the counter, chances are you're going home with something sweet. The aroma of glazed doughnuts, doberge cakes, eclairs - OMG! And if you like Italian bread, please, do yourself a favor and pick up a loaf of their Italian twist bread. It's authentic and is amazing for dipping into balsamic vinegar and olive oil. Amazing!!!!

Yelp
DORIGNAC'S, once an area favorite grocery market, has alienated me, and many other customers. Sorry, but I just don't go there any more. Your choice; they made theirs. Rick

Yelp
I am very disappointed in the fact that you have decided to not have a mask requirement while only around 35% of Louisiana has completed the vaccine and only around 45% have at least one shot . I loved shopping here and loved the employees but walking around and seeing employees with no mask on Is a huge disappointment. Unfortunately I'll be having to take my business elsewhere Dorginacs I'm disappointed in you guys. You took this pandemic so seriously in the beginning and now you seem to just not care.
google avatar

Kate D.

Yelp
I have a love/hate relationship with Dorginac's. Sometimes they are the perfect grocery store and have everything I need and at a great standard of quality. Other times it's just the opposite and I can't find half of what I need and the answer is ALWAYS it will be in tomorrow. Weather it's going to be in tomorrow or not I will not be there tomorrow, LOL. It just amazes me that without fail it's always their answer to a question. I've got issues with the produce and meat as well. Some days it's impeccable and some days it's the worst looking ever or it looks ok and take it home and two days later it's spoiled. Like I say it's a love/ hate relationship. However I do like that they have some items that are harder to find at other stores so that's always nice. I do think they should change their slogan from We Got Dat to We'll Have it Tomorrow! LOL

Yelp
Having grown up in Abbeville, La - -I know a really good shrimp/oyster Po-boy, when I taste , smell and hear the crunch of the yummy bread! Clarence in the delicatesen at Dorignac's makes the BEST po-boy. We now live in Baton Rouge , but I will drive back for this po-boy.............. This was my first time there and I cannot wait to return.
google avatar

Yelp
I really like shopping here. Starting from the fresh flowers to the bakery and cooked food. The fruits are usually ripe. Good selection of cheeses too. Only downside, it's expensive. They give you the old school option of paper or plastic and a bagger at every register on weekends. This makes me not wanna jump over the counter to ring up my own groceries. One day, though, this grocerynista will do that again in a slow store I feel like I still need to explore more produce and veggies but these prices are comparable to Trader Joes and Whole Foods. One day soon, by christmas will go on a saturday and wine taste with the ole ladies.
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
We got dat! They certainly do! Especially when it comes to booze. I come here for my booze runs because they are always the ones that have the hard to find stuff. They were the first to have bumbu rum, which is the best rum in the world, it even tastes like bananas! And they have reasonable pricing and sales on their liquor. They have wine/liquor tastings every Friday around 2 or 3pm and on Saturdays too. Most recently they had in stock the Game of Thrones Whiskey! Everyone from cashiers to the stockers are all friendly and always willing to help you find something or just strike up a conversation. I like that work ethic. As a grocery store, their prices are a little higher than Rouses, but they have unique to the city items and a little dining area that serves steak and other specials certain nights of the week. Overall, it is my favorite grocery in the city.
google avatar

Yelp
This grocery is grrrreat for particular items. The bakery is quite good. Delicious fruit tarts, sweet & fruity doberge, yummy cakes of all kinds. A decent Sugar Free pre packaged bakery section as well. Really large selection of imported cheese including goat's milk, truffle sheep's milk, wasabi bacon cheddar, to name only a few. Massively large liquor & wine selection from all around the globe. Better prices & selection than Martin's Wine Cellar across the road. The prepared foods have always been a little on the bland side in my opinion but the rest of the store has conventional grocery items that do fill your every need, at a decent price. The employees are absolute sweethearts always and the recent updates to the interior and exterior make this place pretty easy on the eyes! Also, the once narrow aisles are now spacious and easily maneuverable. I've been coming here for specialty items since I was in grade school at St. Angela Merici and will continue to do so with a smile for decades to come. Thank you, Dorignac's for always being a staple of fine speciality items in mine and my family's life for DECADES!
google avatar

Yelp
When I walk-in to Dorignac's Grocery the wine, spirits and cheese sections always have me feeling like a kid in a candy store! The rosé, champagne, fine wines, specialty cheese and of course the pâté, hunny!!! Mmmmmmhmmmmmm yumm-O!! It all sends me into the depths of a cheese addict and alcoholic's dreamland!! But in all seriousness, Dorignac's has the most fabulous selection of wine, spirits, cheese, pâté and GORGEOUS cuts of meat that you can possibly get at a non specialty grocery! It's your average grocery, with an waaay above average selection. And the staff is above and beyond with dat extra Metry flair ya can't get no where else, baaaybe! If you can't find something, they're always happy to order it for you! I recently bought a HUGE prime rib to cook for a special family event for about 15 people, and I was so so pleased by the cut of meat I purchased with them. My prime turned out absolutely spectacular! And prime rib is never cheap, but absolutely a great investment if you buy it with them!!

Yelp
Worked there from November '14 to March '15. First day of work they put me to work with another black man. Instantly I thought that something isn't right with this place. The more days I worked there, the more I learned that the work environment was totally segregated. "Uppety" white people supervising blacks & hispanics. I remember this 1 time I was talking to a white employee about the work economy & how easy his job was, then I said it'll take for me to work 3 times as hard if I ever wanted his job position. He didn't much, only thing he said was "yeah man, that's how it is". From then on, I knew I didn't wanna work there anymore. I feel bad for my people that work there. Keep y'all heads up, hold y'all chins high. We'll all get through it

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would, (yes this is one of those and why isn't that an option lol). I was shopping at Dorignac's and saw some bourbon that is hard to get. So I picked up 2 of each kind and called my father in law to see if he wanted any. While on the phone, this guy comes and takes one of each out of my basket and says limit of one of each kind. There was no sign stating a limit and previous experience with this type of purchase at this store has not had a limit on purchase either. When asked about this and stating there has never been a limit on these items before, he simply responded arrogantly "I am the owner and I can do what I want." This I found strange because he didn't have a name tag or a shirt with the Dorignac's logo and I had never seen him before. However, upon research he is one of the owners. I guess he doesn't wok everyday (Must be nice). This man clearly needs a lesson on customer service. If he treats customers this way, I am sure he treats employees the same or worse. After this experience, I refuse to purchase anything from this place again. I would prefer and recommend spending your money at other local grocery stores that appreciate and value their customers. If Dorignac's was the only store with the ingredients available for my favorite dish, I would learn to cook something else. Yes, it was that bad!

No W.

Yelp
This grocery store has a great selection of sugar free desserts and meat! I was amazed with the meat department, they had cuts that I have not seen in many stores.

Yelp
Locally owned & operated... It's the last of a dying breed. Located feet away from the Orleans-Jefferson Parish line near the foot of Veterans. From the outside, it appears to be an older store, but on be inside, ahhhh... There's a deli, an expansive adult beverage (beer) department & sugar free bakery area. There's an section near the register that's dedicated to souvenirs, local wares, event orientated items. Hellllllo there's a glitter crown that I've got my eyes on; I am a queen you know!!! I find the store easy to navigate & environmentally friendly, "paper or plastic" they ask. Prices are moderate & parking is ample.

Henri C.

Yelp
This is the place to buy your holiday stuff. Excellent selection of wines with very competitive pricing. The people in this department are very knowledgeable and are willing to spend the time with you to make your selections. Again let me empathize the pricicing. Oh yea did I mention the prices are excellent. I've been to all the usual places mainly because I haven't been out much since the pandemic so I went off by myself to enjoy the beautiful day. Took my time to check out the selections and prices and let me tell you I am really glad I did. These guys can be a little bit of a problem with their parking lot but totally worth it. In addition the chocolate doberge is the best. So fresh, I got the squares that are huge and the flavor brings you back to the good old days. Skip the bakery that are infamous for these as they have been stale the last 2 times I got them.

Yelp
Where have I been? I've passed Dorignac's too many times to even count and yet I find myself going inside the premises for the FIRST time this last week Saturday, what is wrong with me? The following can be read as the thoughts that went through my head during my experience. "Be careful entering this parking lot Emily, you've heard it can be kinda dangerous for some reason so let's drive through slowly. [Finds parking spot/Enters Dorignac's.] Oh this is nice, where is the wine. OMG. Is that the liquor section? Holyyyyyyyyyy. Whoa, look at all that craft beer. I definitely have to throw a party and come here to stock up. Oh what's this? Louisiana wine? I didn't even know this existed, interesting...focus, focus we want wine today. Wow, there's a vendor sample on almost every aisle here, must be a Saturday thing. Sauvignon blanc, sauvignon blanc....holy smokes there appears to be an ENTIRE aisle dedicated to just this varietal. Where have I been? Why have I never come here before. Let me text my friend my disbelief." [Decides to explore store to compare prices and make this a regular Saturday after work visit.] "Look at the deli, oh my gosh they have cheese samples today! Applewood smoked cheddar? Yes please! Nice selection they have here, I'll have to come back and buy meats and specialty cheeses here too. What else, what else....nice butcher/meat section...oh they have paper towels on dispensers in case you get meat juice on your hands, nice touch! Let's go look at produce. Nice, everything is equal to if not just .50 cents more than Rouse's. Ok, ok, this is doable...yes...oh what's this? Fresh baked breads? Where's the day old French? Hmm, St. Joseph's Day bread, this could work for tonight's cheese plate, I'll get this, it's only .86 cents." [Boyfriend calls in which I rave to him how I came in for one item but likely leaving with 10 items. Proceeds to checkout.] "Paper or plastic? I can't remember the last time they asked me that. Oh look at these little checkout lanes, this reminds me of the small grocery store my mom used to take me to as a child. They're playing on my nostalgia. Nice, no wonder this family-owned business is still in business, the care to detail and service. You don't get that very much anymore. Definitley coming back to do more shopping. Gotta support a business like this so quality and care can continue and thrive."
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
The acclaimed liquor department did not have what I was looking for, and when I asked an employee in that department if they had mojito mix , he told me the aisle it SHOULD be in (where I had just looked). Prices weren't much better than elsewhere.

Yelp
I will never stop coming here. Between the fresh food bar with delicious red beans and rice on Mondays with fried chicken and pork chops and huge sausages, and the absolute freshest and best pick and choose bakery a grocery store could offer, I make Dorignacs a must stop every visit from New York. Oh and the icing on the cake is the rotating wine sales. It's a great place to stock up on amazing wines at unbeatable prices. I'm obsessed with this family owned and affordable grocery.

Yelp
I've grown up in New Orleans and have finally made it to Dorignac's! Don't get me wrong, I've eaten desserts and prepared food from Dorignac's since I was in high school when one of my high school BFF's Mom always got prepared food and an assortment of desserts from there. Now that my BFF's Mom is sick then it's my turn to get the delicious desserts! Her favorite is the coconut cake which I must agree is absolutely delicious! My best friend likes the chocolate eclairs and I like everything! Usually my BFF's mom would get an assortment of things including the coconut cake, chocolate eclairs, carrot cake, German chocolate cake, petit fours, etc. I also bought an assortment of beautiful flowers and olive salad which I forgot to take a picture. What really blows me away though is the large selection of liquor in this grocery store! For such a small store it has a disproportionately huge liquor selection namely the wines! I love how it's sorted by regions and if I had time I would peruse it more closely looking for more pinot grigios to try out. One of my coworkers loves their prepared foods and daily specials. She describes the grocery store as an authentic Italian local store. Sort of like a microcosm of the Italian immigrant community still vibrant in New Orleans! I can't wait to check this grocery store out again! And yes I realize I sound like an old person with no life for getting so excited about a grocery store but whatever! I'm approaching a new decade in my life so I really don't care what people think! Hehe Happy authentic Italian grocery shopping!

Yelp
Impressed with this grocery store! The wine and alcohol selection and prices are incredible. Also, the meat looked very fresh and prices seemed reasonable. I did find the veggies on the higher side of pricing but I bought some fresh green beans and mashing potatoes anyways. I will come back to buy meat after I figure out my meal plan for next week.

Yelp
Don't shop here very often due to it's distance from home. They do have many items that you just can't find elsewhere. They have a fantastic bakery and prepared foods operation. Prices can be a bit higher than the competition. For example, a filled king cake was priced $18, while the same flavor was $8 at Winn Dixie.

Yelp
I've been going to Dorignac's since I was a wee one and they've really done an amazing job keeping up with their competitors in town if not exceeding them at times. If you're buying wine and liquor for a party (or even a few bottles for yourself), go here. They've got a ton of options, great prices, and a handful of well-informed employees working this area to help you out. They also usually have wine tastings going on, hello!!! Since this isn't my usual go-to grocery spot, it takes me a second to figure out where everything is, but they might have one of the best staffs of any grocery store in town from their stockers to their check-out peeps to their baggers to direct you to the correct aisle. From local-pickled products to Taco Bell's new chocolate tacos you can make your own Choco Taco's with, they really do "got dat" as John "Spud" McConnell keeps telling us in their commercials. They even have dry ice! Not sure who else in town carries that year-round! They also have some pretty sick deals from time to time, but you'll find them on little tags by the items so peruse the aisles. I'm a pretty quick shopper so I get a little crazy when I'm maneuvering aisles at break-neck speeds and have to wait for older clientele to pick out rice. Same goes for the parking lot, but by no means is that Dorignac's fault. In fact, it's a tribute to customer loyalty, and I just need to pump the breaks but know that you're going to need some time in there because check-writing is still a real thing, people!

The Best grocery store in the City of New Orleans / Metairie. If it's not here..... then go off to your specialty over priced store darlin Did you know the sushi rocks here ???? Don't buy sushi any other grocery store you'll be terribly disappointed. Only by at a sushi Resturant or Dorignacs . That's it. End of my review.

Yelp
This is a review of the liquor section. The selection is vast and the prices are reasonable. The end. That could actually be it for my review, but I'm not really into the whole brevity thing. I will now regale you with my actual review. For years I have heard people in Metry and Lakeview rave about how awesome Dorignac's is. I never got experience said awesomeness for myself as I am rarely in the Metry area when I need to shop for groceries. Plus it would be pretty foolish to shop there and then drive the 40 minutes back home. But I did finally experience Dorignac's and it was because I needed a gift to bring to a party. A coworker was having his birthday party and what better gift for an adult than some high end booze. Dorignac's is much more than just high end booze of course. It is a full service grocery store. While it is smaller and older than many of the national chains, it is clean and well stocked. Were I shopping in Metry regularly, I would gladly come here than some national chain. In summary, the first few lines sum up my thoughts. The last two paragraphs are there so I can maintain some level of yelp cred.

Yelp
You have to get things from the bakery! So so good! Their petit fours are THE absolute best.

Yelp
I am really impressed with this store. Their prices are very reasonable, and the selection was way better than I expected. I live in the CBD but will be making the drive regularly to shop here. They have one of the best liquor, wine, and beer selections in the city.

Yelp
I went in here to get some Bloody Mary mix. I had never had a Bloody Mary and I figured any mix Dorignac's carried, must be pretty good. It had been a while since I had been in here, It was as wonderful as I remembered. The staff was nice and polite. The selection of food and hard to find items is just stupendous! Stellar! Awesome! But to what really matters, the selection of alcohol. They have what seems like everything in the world. There are mixers and liqueurs, and a nice selection of all the types of spirits. If they don't have it, you probably just don't need it. They seem to be committed to providing the people of this area with a great selection of items and not skimping on variety or charging tons of money. I am impressed with Dorignac's and I'm not easily impressed.

Yelp
OMG this is one of the neatest grocery stores I have visited. We were vacationing in New Orleans and stumbled across this GEM. They had samples of whiskey and a bakery that several unique finds. Definitely worth the drive from anywhere you stay in New Orleans.
